WELCOME ALL It hardly seems 12 months since the industry was gathered together for the best Tuesday of the year, but we are so glad that it’s here again and that we get to spend it with over 1,200 licensing industry friends, colleagues and peers. Tonight is all about celebrating, honouring and rewarding the people, products, retailers and properties that have shone brightly over the past year. Over 5,000 products were entered across the 12 Product categories this year – the most ever – leading to a shortlist of finalists which reflects the success, trends, innovation, joy, passion and creativity of the UK licensing business. In addition, the UK Rising Star category puts the spotlight on 12 special young professionals from the fields of retail, sustainability, marketing, licensing agents, licensees, licensors and sports brands – all of whom prove that the future of the sector is in very safe hands. As ever, the culmination of the evening will see us honour an individual who has devoted many years to the industry, inspiring many along the way with their tenacity, forward thinking and business acumen. YOUR HOST FOR THE EVENING Our host for tonight is professional dancer, presenter, author and TV personality, Anton du Beke. Anton follows in the footsteps of Tom Allen, Katherine Ryan, Cally Beaton and Suzi Ruffell among others who have hosted the Above: Anton du Beke will be dancing onto the stage glittering occasion. as host of tonight’s awards At the age of 14, Anton ceremony. gave up boxing and football and took up ballroom dancing. He won numerous amateur competitions before eventually turning pro with his long-term partner Erin Boag – then sweeping to fame on Strictly Come Dancing. The show has made Anton a household name, one of only two professionals to appear in every series of the show, and he’s now one of the judges. Alongside Strictly duties, Anton is a frequent guest on other shows with credits from The Wright Stuff to Countdown to Hole In The Wall. He is also a regular contributor on Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch. Anton has danced with Cherie Blair (to much mutual admiration), released a series of dancethemed books as well as novels, recorded an album, and claims often to be mistaken for the Welsh comedy actor, Rob Brydon.

Here we explain just how the finalists and the ultimate winners were arrived at.
THE JUDGING PROCESS The Licensing Awards – which are owned and organised by Max Publishing (owners of Licensing Source Book and LicensingSource.net) – recognise and reward excellence across the licensing spectrum. This covers licensed merchandise, retail execution, licensed property management, marketing and promotions and live events. In addition, it honours special individuals in the business – the Licensing International UK Rising Star shines the spotlight on young Above: The Licensing Awards website contained all of the licensing professionals aged under 35, information needed to enter and nominate for all categories. while the Honorary Achievement recognises exceptional executives who have contributed greatly to the industry. The What Kids Love award also returns for the sixth year – the only consumer award in The Licensing Awards, it was launched in collaboration with market research specialist, The Insights Family. The judging process for each of the award categories is different, tailored to arrive at the credible finalists and ultimate winners.

Arriving At The Finalists
The Product Award categories Licensees and licensors were invited to enter licensed products that had been launched into UK retail – or significantly updated – in the year from 1 June 2025 to 31 May 2026. Over 5,000 products were entered across the 12 Product awards categories this year. The entire responsibility of judging the entries to the Product categories lay in the collective hands of this year’s judging panel. The only exception to this was the Best Sustainable Licensed Product award, which was judged by a panel including environmental experts, headed by Helena Mansell-Stopher, founder and ceo at Products of Change. The judges spanned from right across the retail spectrum and from different buying disciplines. The judges included buyers from retailers such as Asda, Calendar Club, Cardfactory, Character.com, FatFace, Iceland, John Lewis, Longleat, LPP, Lush, Matalan, Marks & Spencer, Moonpig, Next, Primark, Pull&Bear, Sainsbury’s, Selfridges, Skinnydip, Tesco, TruffleShuffle, Vanilla Underground, Voisins, Waterstones and The Works. “The amount of entries we had for the Product categories this year was
staggering – it was the largest number of entries ever, in fact,” commented Ian Hyder, ceo at Max Publishing (which owns and organises The Licensing Awards). “The overwhelming amount of entries has led to a shortlist which reflects the success, trends, innovation, joy, passion and creativity of the UK licensing business. “A huge thank you to all of our retail judges; we literally couldn’t have done this without you. Congratulations to all of the nominees.” The judging for the Product categories took place online over the course of a few weeks. Each judge logged on to consider each entry in every category, with the submissions including several images of the product, as well as key information such as RRPs. The judges considered the entries against the criteria of the excellence of design, innovation and originality, consumer targeting and quality of manufacture and packaging. They then individually selected what they deemed were the six best entries in each category. Points were awarded accordingly – six points assigned to the entries each judge felt were the best in the category, down to one point for their sixth choices. The points from all the judges were then amalgamated to arrive at the winner and the finalists for each category. Left: The trophies are being shined ready for the winners to proudly accept.

The finalists in the Retail categories were arrived at as a result of an exhaustive nomination/self-nomination process, with retailers which have excelled in retail delivery of licensed merchandise to the public in the year to 31 May 2026 coming to the fore. The finalists in the five categories were reached by a dedicated Retail Validation Panel, made up of licensing industry executives from both licensors and licensees, and chaired by Richard Pink, md at Pink Key Licensing.

The Property Award categories Licensors and brand owners were invited to enter the Best Licensed Property Award categories by making online submissions via the awards’ dedicated website. The submissions demonstrated how well the property has performed over the last year against a set of criteria. A wide panel of knowledgeable licensees and retailers (from a number of different disciplines) were also invited to give their confidential votes for what they considered to have been the top licensed properties over the last year. These votes were then validated by industry experts.

What Kids Love award For the sixth year running, a consumer award category is part of The Licensing Awards, in collaboration with kids’ market intelligence specialist, The Insights Family. The only consumer accolade in The Licensing Awards, the methodology for What Kids Love is from 01/06/2025 – 31/5/2026 for UK kids aged 3-12, looking at brands with the highest purchase (or purchase intent) related to their favourite characters. As part of the selection process, The Insights Family asked kids about their favourite video games, TV shows, movies and YouTubers, and whether they had bought or planned to buy anything related to them. The product categories covered include toys, clothing, books, magazines/comics, board games, food, stationery, stickers, toiletries, collectables, posters, homeware and greeting cards. To qualify, brands also needed to have submitted at least one licensed product to The Licensing Awards 2026, confirming an active presence in the licensing market. “What really sets this award apart is that kids decide it,” commented Tom Williams, ceo at The Insights Family. “When a brand reaches this shortlist, it’s because kids across the country have told us that it matters to them. That is a harder test to pass, and it is the one that tells you where a brand really stands with its audience.”

The Marketing, Promotions and Live Events awards Entries for the Best Licensed Retail Marketing Initiative, Best Licensed Promotions Campaign and Best Licensed Live Event were submitted via the dedicated Licensing Awards website. They were then considered by members of a judging panel which comprised executives from the promotional, marketing, retail, licensing and advertising fields. They considered entries against criteria including the objectives of the promotion, the creative use of licence and the campaign execution. The Best Licensed Live Event award was open to theatrical shows and events, fairground rides or events within paid for experiences.
