Celebrated throughout the country, the day commemorates freedom of India from British colonialism. It is celebrated as dawn of new beginnings when the reins of control were handed over to the people of India.

Meet the Robots at Airports

The airport staff across the world will be replaced by robots at the airport by 2030. The robots are set to replace existing check-in processes, will have access to real-time airline customer data, and will understand customer’s health and emotional state. Many airlines are adopting artificial intelligence and chatbots to handle bookings and inquiries of passengers. Today, robots are also used for cleaning and maintenance as well as security.

Prabalgad Trek is now open for Tourists

To promote tourism during the monsoon, the forest department has now allowed tourists to visit Prabalgad Fort for trekking. Located in Panvel, the fort is a perfect getaway for tourists. The adventure enthusiasts can go to the fort with the villagers who have been trained to guide them during the trek. The department and committee have installed signboards to create awareness among tourists.

New ‘Incredible India’ Website The Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism KJ Alphons recently launched a new Incredible India website that showcases India as a holistic destination, revolving around major experiences, such as, spirituality, heritage, adventure, culture, yoga, wellness and more. The Ministry has also partnered with Google Arts & Culture to bring online a series of spectacular visuals that will give the user an immersive experience of India’s spectacular heritage, festivity, spirituality, museums and adventure, on the new website.

An Affair with the Beach Nature is all in her glory at this place. Head out to Mangaluru to watch the drama in the skies.

Mangaluru is a beautiful destination to head to during monsoon. An important port city of India, the place is ideally located between the Arabian Sea to its west and the Western Ghats to its east. The monsoon here is wonderfully torrential, replete with dancing fronds of the coconut and palm trees and the blissful breeze. Earlier known as Mangalore, this city is one of the cleanest in India.

When in Mangaluru, a trip to the beach is inevitable. With a number of beaches in the vicinity, travellers are spoilt for choice. At a distance of 10 km from the city, Panambur Beach is not just clean and safe, but is exceedingly picturesque.

Imagine a strip of light sandy beach lined with a thick strip of deep green coconut trees and a lighthouse. A rocky beach that lies to the south of the city is Someshwara Beach which has Somanath Temple to its north. Ullal Beach is another beach located towards the south of the city, and a fisherman’s lane here attracts a number of curious onlookers.

The historical connect Mangaluru had a number of rulers, but the British took over the region after defeating Tipu Sultan. Portuguese influence too lingers here as Vasco da Gama, the historical Portuguese explorer, landed at St Mary’s Islands which is

Almost 4 km from city centre in Boloor is Sultan Battery, the ruins of a watchtower built by Tipu Sultan. Built in the 18 th century, it was meant to keep a close eye on not just the coastline, but the neighbouring Gurupura River. The view is magnificent. The sweeping view of the Arabian Sea, from the top of the tower, against

the backdrop of dark skies is sublime.

Cuisine love The cuisine of Mangaluru is a collective term given to the many cuisines of the local communities. Seafood is a prime delicacy here. Fish curry is popular, and the residents enjoy a variety of fish such as pomfret, mackerel, etc.

The best part about heading to Goa during the rains is not just the opportunity to bask in the wondrous beauty of this beach paradise, but to truly revel in the many perks that come with this destination during off-season. When the rivers are in spate, waterfalls are gushing, roads take a muddy turn and the distant rumble of the dark skies are indication enough of the downpour that is soon to follow. Rain at the beach This time when in Goa, give the usual hangouts a skip. Opt for Palolem, a beach village in Canacona in south Goa. It is easily accessible during low tide, and the beach has a number of nature trails and involves hopping over rocks that can prove quite a challenge for the adventure seekers.

Scuba diving and kayaking are also available, but would largely depend on the weather conditions. Another benefit

about vacationing in this state is that a number of attractions are at an easy distance from each other. Beach lovers can head to the neighbouring beaches of Agonda and Colva.

Jungle fables Almost 10 km from Palolem is Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary.

Nestled at the border of Karnataka, the sanctuary is lush with deciduous trees and so dense, that just streaks of light can easily slip through the layered canopy here. Established in 1969, one can spot a variety of

This natural wonder literally means a sea of milk, especially due to the extent of froth and mist that surrounds it. One of India’s highest waterfalls, the waters of Dudhsagar come crashing from a height of over approx 1,000 ft. This is situated in the Western Ghats area of Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary and the Mollem National Park.

Ajanta & Ellora Caves

One of the best examples of rock architecture in India, Ajanta & Ellora caves of Maharashtra are among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and Seven Wonders of India. They are an intriguing example of Buddhist art in India.

ituated in the state of Maharashtra near Aurangabad, Ajanta & Ellora caves are situated at a distance of approximately 95km from each other. Murals and sculptures depicting the life of Buddha are a perfect work of art using only chisel and hammer. The carvings in the caves are done by Buddhist monks and these one-of-akind caves portray outstanding work of ancient Indian artisans.

Ajanta Caves Ajanta or ‘Ajintha’ as the place is known, remains ‘unconquered’ true to its name. But there is no haughtiness of demeanour about these man-made caves.

There is something wonderfully humane—almost lyrical—in their granite veneer. Hewn into the Sahyadri Hills, the Ajanta Caves were excavated in a rock surface

that looks like horse-shoe shape and have around 300 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments.

These caves are approximately 2nd century BC old and include paintings, murals, sculptures that illustrate the previous life of Buddha. The form of literature depicted in Ajanta Caves is known as Jataka Tales and is native to India. The Ajanta Caves highlight all live forms of Buddha in both human and animal forms.

The cave has a huge front with massive, very symmetrical pillars tapering upwards. The niches on the left and right has sculptures of men and women holding lotus flowers and conch shells, considered auspicious in our culture. The door of the cave is big enough to let in an elephant but certainly not the stupendous central statue of the sitting Lord Buddha in the ante-chamber, for it was never carried there from outside,

as sometimes mistakenly assumed. This breathtaking statue had been hewn out of the adamantine womb of the monolithic rock. It had ‘grown’ inside and acquired a life of its own. Its visage revealed different aspects when exposed to light from different angles.

The Tale of Caves The Shakyamuni Buddha, with his symbolically disproportionate hands and ears, smiling now and meditating the next moment, alone is sufficient to perpetuate the renown of these caves.

The paintings in the caves are inspired by Tibetan Sri Lankan style of painting and the carvings resemble wooden construction.

The site where we see the Ajanta Caves today was abandoned post the end of Harisena’s reign and got covered in thick forest, until 1819. It was later rediscovered by a British officer. It consists of 30 rock-cut caves showcasing some of the splendid paintings and sculptures ever recorded in the Indian history. This is evident in the murals of Cave 2.

The outlines have been drawn very prominent so that they act as guidelines for the spectator, thus producing the effect of a relief. Although most of these paintings have been treated chemically so as to protect them against the ravages of time, the original colours, mostly mineral in origin, prepared and mixed in the crudest possible manner, do show here and

there. For instance, in the twenty-three Swans painted on one of the ceilings of Cave 2, the striking feature is that all of them have struck different poses. Reference may be made to the inimitable paintings of the famous Black Princess of Ajanta, the Mahajanaka Jataka, and the Miracle of Shravasti in Cave 1, the Dying Princess of Cave 16, the Toilet Scene of Cave 17, and its canopy like ceiling, a vivid imitation of fluttering cloth.

Ajanta Caves have a tremendous period value not only from the viewpoint of Indian art and architecture but also that of the various developments, which were registered by Buddhism during those one thousand years. Towards the end of the 3rd century AD, Buddhists had accepted image-worship, and this trend is distinctly reflected in all the Caves that came up during the next five hundred years. Conversely, there is no image of Buddha in the Cave belonging to the earlier period, as, for example, in Cave 10. But Buddhist art reacted very favourably to the cult of image worship, and before long it made its mark with images such as the meditating Buddha of Cave 1, the Buddha in his ‘pralamb paad mudra’ or ‘vyakhyan mudra’ (sitting on a platform with feet on the ground) in Cave 17, and the standing Buddha of Cave 19.

Element of modernity Being enormous in its conception and noble in its execution, Ajanta has that unaging, imperishable quality about it which lends an element of modernity to its two thousand years. Its influence is all-pervasive because its appeal is universal. It imbibed all that was good in its day since it had that all-inclusive catholicity of outlook. Take for instance the façade of Cave 19, every inch of which appears to have been carved under the influence of Hindu architecture. A magnum opus of the ‘division of balance’ principle, it is among the most magnificent cave fronts in the country. Its exquisite porch with that highly ornamental cornice, its niches with their fine sculptures, its semi-circular Chaitya Vatayan (a kind of window), and that beautiful frieze on top of it—all these and much more make it a façade parexcellence. Cave 19 is a prototype of many important modern buildings, not least among these being the earlier mentioned Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Its interior is no less charming than

its imposing front. The ceiling is once again Gajaprishtakriti but with a difference; it is an imitation of timber, complete with beams, planks, et al.

Unlike Cave 12, with an array of living cells and inbuilt beds and even pillows, Cave 19 is a veritable temple. It is a temple dedicated not only to the glory of the Lord but also to the glory of our ancient art and culture.

Ellora Caves Also known as Verul, Ellora Caves dates back to 6th and 10th century. There are a total of 34 caves, comprising 7 Hindu, 12 Buddhist, as well as 5 Jain caves.

the rule of Kalachuri, Rashtrakuta and Chalukya dynasties and are a display of architectural splendour of ancient India. They are believed to have been carved out from the vertical side of the Charanandri Hills. Many believe that after the Ajanta caves were deserted, the carving work of Ellora Caves started in around 550AD. These dates coincide with the decline of Buddhism in India. The work in the caves began during the rule of the Chalukyas and Rashtrakutas who were great patrons of Brahmanical movement.

Sites of attraction Ellora caves can be segregated into three different types, Buddhist Caves, Hindu Caves and Jain caves. The Buddhist Caves date back to 5th and 7th centuries and are the earliest one among the three. They are home to monasteries, structures like living spaces and kitchen of the monks made from the hill-rocks.

Carvings in the Hindu Caves started in the 7th century and boasts magnificent designs and are an example of planning and implementation.

The third set of caves, Jain caves are not as big as the other two in the group. These caves exhibit Jain religious philosophy and splendid artworks.

Another attraction in the Ellora Caves is the Kailasnath Temple (Cave 16). The largest

rock-cut cave made from a single rock, Kailasnath temple is about 150 years old and boasts Dravidian style of architecture. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has a U-shaped courtyard with structures of god and goddess on the sculpted side panels. The temple also host an idol of Nandi bull in the main courtyard. Another beautiful spectacle in the temple is the idol of Ravana, lifting the Mount Kailas with Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva seated on a throne. The most mesmerising part of the Caves is the Vishvakarma that exemplify Buddhist shrine along with stupas.

ne in three cars sold globally is some sort of SUV. They are the kind of cars that, to some extent, are capable of going off-road. However, the last ten years have witnessed a new breed of car called the Soft Roader or Crossover which is based on a hatchback, looks like it might be capable off-road, but isn’t. These are hugely popular as well.

Now, a lot of people own proper off-road cars such as Jeeps, Range Rovers and Land Cruisers but never take them off-road.

In this piece, we’re going to show you that off-road

driving is really easy, enjoyable, accessible and the fact that you don’t need locking differentials and low-range gearboxes to enjoy an SUV off-road.

Enter the BMW X1 XDrive20d M Sport. This is the car you’re least likely to buy if you have any intentions of driving off-road. It’s a proper Soft Roader that’s based on a MINI Countryman. It’s mostly front-wheel-drive with power sent to the back wheels when it senses that the fronts are losing grip. For crossing the desert or a jungle, this isn’t the car we’d recommend.

Now, this X1, like all the other Soft Roaders, was designed to work in normal

conditions, i.e., cities, highways, mountain roads and all the other places you would use any other type of car. It has all the creature comforts you’d expect of a car that costs almost 40 lakhs (ex-showroom) like a panoramic sunroof, two-zone climate control BMW’s iDrive, electric seats, et al. It has packed the rafters with safety kit as well that includes several airbags, ABS with EBD Traction Control, ESP and various other systems to stop you from crashing.

Its tiny footprint means that it’s very convenient to drive in the city. You never feel overwhelmed by the size or think twice before trying to squeeze into a gap. And on the highway, it feels calm, settled and sharp to your inputs with a very small margin for error. You’d think that this would make it tiring but it doesn’t. You find yourself just being more progressive than usual with smaller and slower inputs. And the X1 rewards this with precise changes of direction and reveals its progressive nature.

So far then, none of this actually screams off-road monster. The only semi offroaderish feature is the Hill Descent Control. With this, you can preset a speed that you want the car to be limited to while going down hill and it will apply the brakes accordingly to keep it at that speed.

This got us worried as we made our way to Goa from Mumbai. We kept thinking that we might not be able to take it off-road at all; that it may not have the capability. And that’s when it hit us – as I write this, Goa is in the peak of its off-season, so there are only a handful of tourists. That means we could have the beaches to ourselves! And beaches, for cars like the X1 and for beginner off-road drivers, are excellent. We got lucky because the beach we found was not only empty, but it had just rained so the sand was firm.

That meant less changes of the car bogging down.

So what follows is a series of tips and tricks for off-road

Give yourself time to feel and understand how your car is behaving underneath you.

Get to grips with what kinds of input are giving you what kinds of results driving that you can try in your SUV at your nearest beach.

NOTE: Please take permission from the local authorities first.

Throttle Control Most SUVs have an automatic gearbox which means that the software decides how much acceleration to give based on the position of your foot on the accelerator. This means that your inputs should be smooth and steady. The best thing you can do is to push the accelerator about 10-15 per cent and keep your foot there and let it work out how much power to give you. This will make sure your progress is smooth and controlled.

Steering Always hold the steering at a quarter to three position with your thumbs outside the wheel.

This ensures you don’t injure your thumbs in case the wheel bucks and gives you maximum control. When you steer, do so smoothly under acceleration or braking as this helps change direction better.

Brakes Your braking needs to gentle or the car will dig itself into the sand and get stuck. It is imperative that you plan your braking and do so gently because panic braking tends to be abrupt and can unsettle the car.

Paithani

Textile for a Goddess Aurangabad, or rather the neighbouring town of Paithan is, in fact, noted for a particular quality and pattern of gold and silk gauze. It would be next to impossible to convey anything like a conception of these marvellous textiles by a description alone.

“The most striking peculiarity of these brocades and endpieces is the persistence of exceptionally bright and showy colours, namely, moss green, canary yellow, pale metallic blue and bright pink.

These are worked into flowing angular scrolls on a field of pure translucent gold and are framed by narrow bands composed of graphically depicted green paroquets or peacocks, placed usually head and tail in the vertical bands and in the transverse

ones with each alternate bird looking over its shoulder at its neighbour. The end-piece, framed with such a border, is a veritable ‘field of gold’ upon which large Persian cone-patterns are seen to spring from vases and to be supported right and left by a pair of peacocks”, writes Sir George Watt, Director of the Indian Art Exhibition, Delhi (1902-1903), in the official catalogue of the exhibition, about the exquisite Paithani weaves displayed.

A Unique Expression While the spectrum of Indian textiles spanning embroidered, printed, painted and woven fabrics never ceases to amaze with the beauty of their motifs, patterns, colours, texture, tactile quality, drape and more, perhaps the eye is most drawn to brocaded fabrics with motifs of metal yarn. Across the country, beautiful silk textiles are woven with motifs of gold and/or silk yarns spangling their body, borders and endpanels. Among these weaves, the Paithani stands apart for its end-panel that has a band of gold embellished with motifs woven with silk yarns. This is an interesting feature as one typically comes across textiles with a silk ground dotted with metallic yarn motifs! As the name suggests, the Paithani weave takes its name from Paithan, a pilgrim town about 50 km from Aurangabad,

Maharashtra, that was once the capital of a large kingdom and an important trading centre. It is said Paithan’s prosperity and the demand for weaves by the royal family attracted skilled weavers to settle here, and they wove spectacular textiles that took on the name of the town.

And with their demand, these textiles were also woven at Aurangabad and Yeola (near Aurangabad).

Yet, as every Indian textile tends to be meshed with lore, one legend says that eons ago Goddess Parvati expressed a wish for a unique garment to

wear for a wedding. Overhearing her words, Lord Shiva asked his weavers to weave an exceptional textile for her. Putting their skill and ingenuity to work, the weavers - who had customarily woven gold motifs on a silk ground, reversed the combination and wove a gorgeous textile of pure gold yarns with exquisite motifs of fine coloured silk yarn that took everyone by surprise!

The Hand of the Weaver The Paithani sari stands out for its silk body with gold motifs, gold patterned borders and end-panel of gold ground with silk motifs. The borders and end-panel are woven by using multiple non-continuous weft yarns each of which is manually weaved around slim long bobbins and then each of these bobbins is taken under the specific warp yarns and interlocked to create motifs and patterns. The motifs are rendered on paper and this paper is placed under the warp yarns next to the weaver, who looks at it and weaves the weft yarns accordingly; it can take up to twelve hours to weave half an inch of an intricately patterned end-panel.

Offsetting the dazzling endpanel, the body of the sari is typically muted, with small regularly spaced motifs of flowers, a peacock, mango, star or coin.

Regal and Wedding Attire The beauty of the Paithani textiles saw them being woven as saris, drapes, dhotis, turban clothes, sashes and fabrics for ceremonial swords. Over the centuries as the art was encouraged by the ruler of Paithan, rulers of the Deccan Sultanates, the Nizam of Hyderabad, the rulers of the princely Maratha states and aristocracy, and by the Central and State Governments in the post-independence period.

The exquisite Paithani sari is an important part of the wedding trousseau of the Maharashtrian bride, who looks forward to wearing it at her wedding; purple is the most

popular colour for Paithani saris. While the Paithani sari has long been worn by women in Maharashtra all over the world for festive ceremonies and formal occasions, its awareness has seen it being appreciated and worn by women from different parts of the country.

Taken up by the beauty of Paithani saris, designers are interacting with weavers to create one-of-a-kind Paithani saris with their signature designs on the end-panel. They are also working with weavers to weave lengths of Paithani textiles for western/Indowestern garments. In this way, a traditional, centuries-old textile art is being energised and carried forward.

he first bikinis or the swimsuits as some might call it were made of wool. Yes, wool and swimsuits were an interesting combination back then. Wool had a unique charm during beach outings. In the mid-19th century, the idea of spreading leisure time at the beach made its way in the society and people started looking for bathing suits designed for leisurely swims.

In 1870s North America, swimsuits involved corsets, bathing shoes and hose.

Things changed in 1907 as sleeveless one-piece swimsuits became extremely popular after police arrested Australian swimmer Anette Kellermann.

She was arrested as she wore one-piece at Revere Beach north of Boston. The love for form-fitting styles made its way into the society around 1930s with the development of new and stretchier synthetic fabrics. In the film Fashions of 1934, women modelled twopiece outfits which were nearly identical to modern day styles.

The World War II brought with it huge shortage of fabric and thus to meet the rationing regulations swimsuits were

designed with bare midriff. The first bikini was designed by Louis Reard in 1946 and was first displayed by a dancer. He called it bikini after the place for atomic bomb testing named Bikini Atoll. Since the first bikini was designed, models and actors donned the ensemble at various occasions both onscreen and off-screen.

During the 1960s, the introduction of nylon and lycra made swimsuits tighter than ever. In those days, Brigitte Bardot became the bikini icon after wearing it in the film Manina, The Girl in the Bikini.

Bikini by now had become the part of both fashion and entertainment industry as lyrics of hit songs involved the bikini.

Brian Hyland released his hit song Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini back then. Ursula Andress emerged from the sea in a bikini in the film Dr No. This white bikini was sold for $61.5k in 2001. It

saw a twist when Pam Grier wore it as a nurse-turneddrug-dealer-killer in Coffy.

The change in avatar did not end here. Carrie Fisher stole the show in a metal swimsuit with complementing shackles.

Tables turned in 1977 when the participants were allowed to wear bikini for the first time in 1997 during the Miss America Pageant’s 77 year history. In 2001, Britney Spears dressed in an embellished bikini with a yellow python in 2001 for her VMA’s look. The Bond Girl Halle Berry also wore an amazing bikini in 2002. Model Ashley Graham graced the cover of Sports Illustrated in a strappy purple suit in 2016.

Drinks Revamped Be versatile during the summer parties and create some superrefreshing drinks and trendy cocktails that go the extra mile.

Thai Basil No-Jito Give an exotic twist to the classic summer beverages with mint. If you are unable to find Thai basil, opt for regular basil for a wonderful taste. Muddle eight leaves of basil, eight leaves of mint, and half teaspoon of sugar in a glass until the herbs are fragrant and mashed together. Add some crushed ice to the glass to bring the temperature and squeeze in some lime juice for a tangy taste. Top it with the carbonated water and garnish with the one stalk of trimmed lemongrass.

Pomegranate Lime-Tini This is no conventional martini.

The non-alcoholic version of the martini is not just a refreshing option but the elegant version is packed with plenty of antioxidants. For two, shake one cup of pomegranate juice, one-fourth cup of fresh lime juice, two tablespoon of ginger syrup and two ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Once you finish shaking, you are all done. Just garnish it with lime twists and pomegranate seeds, the drink is ready to be served.

Ginger Green Tea-Ni When martini meets the energising effect, you are served with Giner Green Tea-Ni. A thinly shaved ginger-root to garnish is something which works well for the look. Three fourth cup of brewed green tea, two tablespoon of chilled ginger syrup and half cup of ice are put together to be shaken in a cocktail shaker. The drink is ready to be served with a slice of ginger on the top.

Coconut Mango Crush A perfect celebration is incomplete without a tropical drink in a tiki glass and a paper-umbrella garnish. Take two highball glasses with one cup of crushed ice. Divide one cup of coconut water, 3/4th cup of mango nectar, half cup of carbonated water and some lime juice between the two glasses. Shake it well and garnish with a slice of lime.

Summer Fruit Daiquiri From fresh peaches, strawberries to mango and watermelon, the daiquiri has it all. In a blender combine the three cups of fruit, the limeade concentrate, orange juice, and powdered sugar. Cover and blend until smooth. While blender is running, gradually add ice cubes until mixture is of desired thickness.

Serve in glasses and garnish with fruit pieces threaded on wooden skewers.

eople’s signature is one of the most important identity that they have. A signature is used everywhere from authenticating government ID documents, to undertaking financial transactions, to giving approval for joining or leaving a membership plan, to being a symbol of voluntary consent for any legal activity that you partake in the world. Apart from their legal importance, signatures also reflect on a person’s psyche and current health.

Since signatures are permanent and constantly reinforced by signing again and again, the patterns and strokes in a signature deeply reflect the mental health and state of a person. Expert Graphologists and scientists have observed that people with similar mental states and behavorial patterns have similar characteristics in their signatures and handwriting.

What’s more, this trend is more prominent with patients suffering from mental depression, suicidal tendencies and anxiety disorders.

Handwriting analysis is a science which helps us to look into the minds of individuals in a matter of minutes. Through it we can come to know about a person‘s emotional response, likes, dislikes, strengths and weakness because you can lie but your handwriting cannot. For example, Shah Rukh Khan’s signature tells us that he is an individual who is very self-confident and has a good character. He trusts in ‘Happiness of human life’. His signature reveals that he has leadership skills and can depend upon himself in situations of

struggle. The way he signs his name suggests that he wants to be seen but not known. The connectivity in his signature signifies a learnt person who can converse on any subject with ease. He has the ability to follow and change thoughts smoothly, often a good speaker, writer or conversationalist.

Recently, I noticed my client who was suffering from depression and anxiety for nearly a decade, had the same characteristics in her signature as other patients – a downward sloping baseline, huge variations in the size of characters, big loops (showcasing a tendency to hold on to toxic emotions), etc. Clearly her subconscious mind was giving extensive clues about her mental health. I gave her some tips on how to change her signature and some graphotherapy exercises, and now she is doing fine.

So how can you stay away from negativity and depression by changing your signature? Here are some tips that you should practise in your new signature:

Have an upward sloping signature

Ensure that your signature is upward sloping or inclined towards the top. This gives your sub-conscious the message that you look forward to growth and prosperity in the future and are ready to climb whatever mountain comes your way.

Remove all strikethrough lines from your signature While making the baseline of your signature ensure that the line doesn’t cross or strike-out any of the characters in the name.

A strikethrough line or crossing of characters represents a

tendency to self-sabotage and unhappiness with one’s self.

Instead, ensure the baseline is tangential to the letters of your signature and not passing through it.

Cross t-bars in the letter ‘t’ higher

The height at which the ‘t-bar’ crosses the stem indicates a person’s ability to deal with setbacks and challenging situations in life. People who lose motivation easily or find it extremely difficult to move on from setbacks generally have low t-bars which is why it’s always suggested that one should always cross their ‘t’s as high as possible.

Increase your signature size When it comes to happiness in Graphology, size does matter!

A small signature indicates lack of confidence in oneself and someone who is easily intimidated. It’s best to have a bigger signature size as it demonstrates confidence and security in being who you are.

Will changing my signature change my mental state? Yes, it will! Ramya Krishnan Belie her age, synonym of grace and charm, the very beautiful Ramya Krishnan is among the few actresses to have carved a niche in all four South Indian languages.

rom Neelabari to Sivagami and others, Ramya Krishnan has been a classic beauty of South Indian Cinema and has never failed to mesmerise the viewers with her wonderful performance.

She is known for her work in all the four languages in the South and has also worked with the who’s who of Bollywood.

She started her career as a professional Kuchipudi dancer and entered the industry because of her mother’s ambition. “My mother always felt that acting would help me in my dancing career and it will make me popular earlier than I would be as a dancer,” she reminisces. Ramya goes on to add that once she joined the industry as an actor, she totally forgot about dancing.

Talking about her struggle in the initial days, Ramya adds, “ Success came to me after seven years of struggle.” She started with Tamil films in 1986 and was not successful for almost seven years. It was Tollywood that changed things for her. “Telugu films worked for me. I found success there and then shifted to Tamil films and was doing both of them equally,” she says.

Variety is the spice of life She has done a range of roles from sexy actress to vamp and many strong characters. She never tried to become one kind of heroine and did not stick to similar kind of roles. “I consciously did not say no to any of the roles,” she quips. “When I was doing well in Telugu films, I was approached for Aayanaki Iddaru, remake of Aaina in Telugu. I was offered Amrita Singh’s role

and was apprehensive if I could do it or not,” she adds. The director had full faith in her and that is how her first negative role happened. Talking about her role in Aayanaki Iddaru, she says, “It was very well received by the audience. Along with that I did other roles too but all these different roles did not affect each other.”

She has done many roles and her favourites are Sivagami in Bahubali and Neelambari in Padayappa. “She’s not an ordinary woman. She’s fierce, independent and a warrior with both good and bad sides to her character,” she says when asked about Sivagami. She thinks Bahubali has changed a lot of things for her. She added that filmmakers often don’t approach her with such characters but when she heard the narration of Bahubali, she got goosebumps. “After some time, I couldn’t see Sivagami; I saw only myself. In particular, there’s this flashback portion where I come with the child, kill a person and sit on the throne. I fell in love with the way it was presented,” she says.

Reminiscing Bahubali days she feels that before the film she was one of the many actresses in the industry but after that she has become a phenomenon.

When asked about her favourite between Neelambari and Sivagami, she said that we cannot compare them and both are strong in their own way. “When I was offered Neelambari, I just did it. I didn’t think much,” she adds. At first she was scared of doing the film as she had to play a

negative role against superstar, Rajinikanth. She laughs and says, “When I said yes to the role, people asked me think again as I might even have to leave Chennai after playing a negative role against Rajini sir.

This really scared me.” She also shared a humorous incident when Ramya’s sister went to watch Padayappa and the audience hailed slippers at her face. Ramya adds that such things went on for a week but later people appreciated her work.

Love for language Ramya Krishnan who was seen in Telugu film, Bahubali does not know language so well. The best part about her performance is that despite not being familiar with the language, she dubs for herself.

She is a Tamilian and has been born and brought up in Chennai. Her only contact with Telugu from her childhood days was her father who hails from Telugu-speaking region. She knew very little about the language and began learning it only after she started acting in Telugu films.

“I had to work really hard on the dialogues, especially in Telugu, as the language used in the film is very pure. I found Tamil language a lot easier in comparison,” she adds.

From heroine to character artiste Ramya Krishnan’s journey has been very interesting. Not only she accepted all kind of roles but she also aced all of them and was even appreciated for the same. The diva feels that it does not matter whom are you acting with or what role are you playing. All you have to do is just understand the character.

“I internalise my character and perform as the director wants me to,” she says. “I always try and stay true to the character I’m playing. When I do something, I give my best,” she adds.

The celebrated artist who has been seen in many strong roles does not miss being a heroine. She thinks, “It’s a great time to be a character artiste. I’ve got more than what I asked for.” She has been successful in roles she has done and sign off by saying, “Factors such as good timing and fortune have a bearing on success. I just try to enjoy every moment without any regrets.”
