On behalf of Gulf Air’s global family, we thank you for flying with the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain today and wish you all a prosperous and Happy New Year to come.

We are starting the year 2020 in full throttle, with big plans ahead. Our fleet modernisation programme is going strong as we receive the final 3 aircraft of our Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. We are also anticipating receipt of our new Airbus 321neo aircraft, which will operate to our European routes as well as mediumhaul destinations. The new A321neos’ will feature state-of-the-art flatbed seats and in-flight entertainment systems to make your journeys with us both comfortable and enjoyable.

Our first new destination of 2020 will be Erbil in Iraq, from February with 3 flights a week

This year we are also expanding our operations in Europe, as we recently announced our plans to fly to Milan with daily trips from July 2020. As well as this, we will be flying to Mykonos and Munich both on a seasonal basis. Málaga and Salalah are back due to popular demand, as favourites for the summer. Our first new destination of 2020 will be Erbil in Iraq. This will start from February with 3 flights a week. Erbil will be our 3rd point in Iraq added to our Baghdad and Najaf operations; all three connecting Iraq to the region and beyond. We have some more announcements in store for this year so keep following us on our social media accounts for more updates throughout the year. We will be complementing our strategic growth with the launch of a number of new fantastic boutique destinations to cater to both leisure and business travel. With world famous beaches, Southeast Asia offers a tonne of opportunities to enjoy the endless coastlines of the region.

Become a beach bum and spend your days lazing on the sand, taking in the sun followed by a dip in the clear waters. And to help get the ball rolling, we rounded up four of the best beaches in Southeast Asia, which are worth visiting.

Nai Harn Beach, Phuket

Nai Harn beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Phuket with its excellent water quality. It's encompassed on both sides by jungle-covered mountains and there's a large freshwater lagoon inland. Never overloaded, even in high season, Nai Harn's usually busier at weekends as it is popular with both Thais and expats.

There's something special for the children too. At the southern end, the lagoon flows into the sea, creating a stream that children love to play in.

Bonus: Though surfing is not a major sporting pastime in Phuket, at the south end of this beach there is a permanent sandbank that gives a good and often fast ride, even in the smallest swells. At the northern end (right next to Le Royal Meridien Yacht Club) there is a beachand-reef break in the corner. This break can hold large swells and can at times get pretty potent.

Boracay, the Philippines

While only 7km long, tiny Boracay has rapidly become the Philippines' top tourist draw, fuelled by explosive growth and a tsunami of hype; in 2013 it was voted as the second-best island destination in the world after Palawan. The centre of the action is dreamy White Beach, a 4 km,

postcard-perfect stretch of sand lined from one end to the other with hotels, restaurants and dive shops now several blocks deep.

Bonus: The ocean is full of romantic paraws (a sailboat) giving rides; colourful parasails fill the air. Post-sunsets, live music breaks out and fire dancers twirl their batons. The party goes on all night.

All of this can be great fun, à la Waikiki, and can easily occupy your entire visit.

Ngapali Beach, Myanmar

With its pristine white sands, the clear blue waters of the Bay of Bengal and a host of sophisticated accommodation, Ngapali – some say named by a wayward Italian reminiscing about Napoli years ago – has 18

Known for its artistic heritage, astonishing number of canals, warm people and lipsmacking food, the Netherlands’ capital city Amsterdam is extremely soothing to the eye.

Colloquially referred to as the "Venice of the North”, its waterways have always been its essence and its source of wealth. The 17th century Canal Belt was placed on UNESCO's World Heritage list in 2010. However, the city has much more than just canals.

Rijksmuseum

The iconic museum of the Netherlands, Rijksmuseum once again opened its doors to the public in full splendour on April 2013 after 10 years of rebuilding, refurbishing and renovating.

Both the building and the presentation of the collection underwent a total transformation.

The museum’s world-famous collection is presented in an entirely new way. In 80 galleries, over 8,000 objects tell the story of 800 years of Dutch art and history, from the Middle Ages to Mondrian. Visitors can go on a journey through the ages and experience a sense of beauty and of time.

Vondelpark

The largest and most famous park in Amsterdam, it welcomes about 10 million visitors every year.

Centrally placed south of Leidseplein and near Rijksmuseum, the Vondelpark is loved both by locals and tourists. You can see all sorts of people here – enjoying a sunny day, dog-

Free concerts are staged at the open-air theatre. Other attractions are the statue of the poet Vondel, the cast iron music dome, the Groot Melkhuis with a playground for children and the historical pavilion.

Anne Frank’s House

The Anne Frank House is a museum with a story. Anne Frank hid in 1942 from the Nazi’s during the occupation of the Netherlands. Two years later she was discovered. In 1945, she died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. As a visitor, you experience this story through quotes, photos, videos, and original items. The atmosphere in the museum is 26

authentic and subdued. Few must-sees in the museum include Anne Frank's first diary, the hinged bookcase, height marks of Anne Frank and Margot Frank and the map of Normandy.

Van Gogh Museum

A must for art lovers, the museum maintains the world’s largest collection of the works of the world’s most popular artist – Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), his paintings, drawings and letters. The permanent collection in the museum features over 200 paintings, 500 drawings but also works of other artists, Van Gough's contemporaries. The museum receives over 1.6 million visitors every year.

Mykonos

Greece's answer to Ibiza, Mykonos is a whitewashed paradise in the heart of the Cyclades. Taking its name from the grandson of Apollo, “Mykonos”, this place has everything a seasoned traveller will look for – be it entertainment, history, tradition, or adventure. While here you should pay a visit to the church of Panayia Paraportiani, the Town Hall and the castle situated above the harbour.

the Kunstareal, Munich’s art quarter, which has four major venues displaying everything from Dutch masters to 1960s design. The country’s third largest city (and capital of Bavaria) is also home to some world-class museums focusing on topics as diverse as Oktoberfest, porcelain and BMW cars. If you're looking for unusual things to do here, visit Eisbachwelle, it is home to one of Munich’s favourite and most unlikely pastimes – surfing.

Keep in mind: Even though Munich offers a lot of shopping opportunities, a lot of the markets in the city remain closed on Sundays. This includes supermarkets and pharmacies too.

Milan

One of the world’s most important fashion capitals, the Province of Milan is the second most populous in Italy. Milan is shaped by its waterways. Erbil

The fourth largest city in Iraq after Baghdad, Basra and Mosul, Erbil is a thriving hub of Iraq and a place to get a real feel for Kurdish life.

While there are quite a lot of memorable sights, Erbil Citadel tops the list. Dating back about 8,000 years, the citadel is said to be the oldest continuously inhabited place on earth. The inhabitants were moved out in an attempt to rebuild the last remains of the fortified citadel, which is now a UNESCO-designated world heritage site. Other things that should interest you are the Jalil Khayat mosque, Qaysari Bazaar and the Marine Park.

Keep in mind: International ATM’s are not common, so bringing some cash when travelling to Kurdistan is advisable.

The Big Five Marathon is known for its demanding course, which takes runners through incredible scenery, showcasing South Africa’s natural beauty and wildlife.

Runners weave through the African savannah, encountering zebras, elephants, giraffes and antelopes. The terrain is varied with sand, loose rocks, pebbles and holes. Significant changes in elevation with a few steep ascents and descents should be expected.

Iceland Volcano Marathon

Premiering in 2020, this is the first race in one of Earth’s geological hotspots! Set near Lake Mývatn at the divergent boundaries of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, the route will run directly on the North Volcanic Zone. It’s a hot bed of geothermal activity with geysers, hot springs, lava fields and glaciers – what’s more, the volcanic zone is still very much active. With the massive Hverfjall crater at the centre of the route, runners will pass through soft, black volcano sand, run next to geysers in the Martian-red geothermal area of Namarskard.

Petra Desert Marathon

The Polar Circle Marathon

Often referred to as "the Coolest Marathon on Earth", the race takes place in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. The endless ice and arctic tundra of this vast country make up the backdrop of this unusual race in which runners pass glacier tongues, moraine landscapes and the soundless, Arctic desert. A part of the route takes place on the ice cap itself, but the main part of the course is run on the gravel road that connects the ice sheet with the small township of Kangerlussuaq, just north of the Polar Circle.

Bagan Temple Marathon

Starting in the city of Petra, the Petra Desert Marathon leads runners past the tombs, mountainside carvings and caves before venturing into the arid, lunar-like landscapes of the Jordanian desert. From the splendid ruins of Petra and the vast and awe-inspiring Wadi Rum desert, to a floating swim in the Dead Sea - Jordan has something for everyone to enjoy, not to mention the warm hospitality of the Jordanian people.

Tucked away in central Myanmar and home to more than 2,000 temples, Bagan’s beauty and historical significance is unsurpassed. Sacred pagodas and beautiful temples are scattered across the plains of Bagan creating a mystical, striking landscape. The marathon course will take runners on a voyage of discovery into this alluring and untouched land. The hot and dusty course is a challenge for most runners participating in the Bagan Temple Marathon.

Jama Masjid

In the Indian scheme of things, Delhi has always held prime position. Much before it became the capital of independent India, it was at the centre of power for almost a thousand years, thereby also becoming the historical, architectural and cultural capital of the country. It was ruled by various kingdoms and hence has a plethora of monuments. At its heart is Old Delhi, which was known as Shanjahanabad, with an abundance of breathtaking forts, monuments, mosques and other historical buildings as well as shopping bazaars and eateries dishing out delicious food.

Called Purani Dilli, it is in complete contrast to modern Delhi with its wide streets and stately buildings. Exploring old Delhi’s charming streets and monuments can be immensely satisfying.

Red Fort

Among the most recognisable places in old Delhi, the Red Fort was the official seat of Mughal rule and authority from 1648 onwards. This was when Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal emperor, decided to move the kingdom’s capital from Agra to Delhi.

Built of red sandstone, from where it gets is name, construction on the fort began in 1639 and took eight years to complete. The complex consists of several royal buildings, apartments, meeting halls, bathing enclosures among others and is considered to be the zenith of Mughal architecture in India. Many of these have been converted into museums and can be visited. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.

Jama Masjid

In the heart of Delhi, amidst the noise and chaos, and yet a symbol of peace and calm is

the beautiful Jama Masjid or the MasjidI-Jahan-Numa. Built by Shah Jahan in the mid 17th century, this is the troika that he is known for after Taj Mahal and Red Fort. Built with red sandstone and white marble, the sprawling structure has three gates and two towering minarets that rise 40 metres into the sky between which lie three beautiful domes. The whole structure has exquisite carvings and inlay work as well as balconies and beautiful arches. There are other interesting elements such as a sun dial. An estimated 25,000 people can pray within the premises.

Chandni Chowk

Nothing epitomises Delhi, especially the 44

old and traditional part of the city, quite like Chandni Chowk. Despite its name, it is actually an amorphous shaped area rather than a square and can be called the beating heart of Delhi. Considered to be the city’s oldest trading centre, it continues to be a bustling place teeming with people, establishments and eateries. Its warren of narrow lanes and bylanes are the best places to buy traditional and exquisitely embroidered clothes, wedding finery, jewellery, trinkets, souvenirs and an eclectic assortment of things. This is only complemented by delicious street food and tiny eateries which dish out aloo tikki, chole bhature, kachori, dahi bhalla, kababs, halwa, jalebi, lassi, masala tea and so much more.

It has two halls divided into 10 halls with rare Quranic manuscripts going back to 700 AD. Among the exhibits are manuscripts on parchment from Mecca and Medina, Damascus and Baghdad, the world's oldest translated copy of the Qur'an (translated into Latin in Switzerland) going back to 955 AD, and also some of the tiniest copies of the Quran which can only be read with the help of magnifying instruments.

In a clip from the video Cozy Little Christmas, Katy, as "Merry Perry, Santa's second wife," welcomes Santa home from his holiday work, and the two take off for a vacation, where they lounge by the pool, sip tropical drinks and even get reindeer massages. Joining in on the fun are a snowman, reindeer, elf and other holiday pals. "And that is pretty much how I like my holidays," Katy Perry, adding, "I am the person, day after Thanksgiving, who's like, 'Christmas music right now!' So, end of November I am Christmas music-ed out!"

Being Present, Fully

Family is an integral part of Katy's holidays.

In fact, the idea for the video of Cozy Little Christmas originated because of a family vacation. "It was actually inspired by our last Christmas together with my family, which was last year in Copenhagen [Denmark]," she explains. "The Danish really know how to do Christmas! They have so many different traditions -- they have special chocolates they buy, they light real candles on the Christmas tree, you hold hands and you dance around and I was like, 'Man, I want that.' It's something you can't buy," she adds, saying, "It's just a feeling."

Speaking of being fully present, Katy likes to make the most of her vacations. Her social media is replete with pictures of her jet-skiing, snorkelling, diving and so on. A beach person, Katy says, "I love the sunshine! Add sand and water to it and I am that kid in a candy store."

Her favourite place to soak up the sun are the "breathtaking beaches of ĂŽle de RĂŠ, an island located off the west coast of France. The shores gleam like molten gold! Other than that it would be Capri, Mallorca, and Japan!" she says, excitedly.

Real Living Happens on Vacations

The 'Never Really Over' singer makes sure her hectic schedules don't mar her vacations. "I truly do a digital detox, over-eat, take many naps, and turn into fun, fabulous Super Auntie!

But it really is something that recharges me!

That is real living," exclaims Katie. Whether Katy Perry is on a two-year-long tour or busy filming a number one hit music video, the pop star never forgets to take care of herself by taking some down time to vacation.

"I turn into a monk on vacations. Not that I don't meditate, or take care of myself when not on holiday, but during vacations, I become paranoid about recharging. So my transcendental meditation sessions, prebedtime rituals - taking off all my makeup with oil, followed by a spritz of Caudalie Eau de Raisina few drops of lavender oil on my pillow and the presence of loved ones is my favourite tonic!" says Katy.

If you look at Katy Perry's past red carpet and street looks, you can definitely see a Japanese flare to her style. It is easy to see that Katy Perry really admires the culture of Japan. "It is my favourite place to travel! You know there is this crazy place in Tokyo called Tokyo Cat House where you can drink tea and play with cats!" she says gleefully, adding, "I also love the flamboyance of the Middle East, especially Dubai. Life is just so much brighter in Dubai!"

Ask her about her travel wish-list and Katy says, "I have a ticket to outer space! But before that I want to climb Machu Picchu, and learn Spanish in Madrid!"

The Moken are true environmentalists. They live in the vicinity of the azure blue sea and empty beaches close to the Andaman Sea and sell trinkets and handicrafts to the tourists who often come to their shores to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. The Moken community is tight knit and Koh Surin National Park in Thailand has become their home. The Moken are affectionate people who welcome tourists like their own kith and kin and are willing to share their way of life with them.

Humble Origins

Like all seafaring communities, the Moken are skilful freedivers and sea nomads who have always lived at sea. The land traditionally became their home only during the rainy season when they sought comfort in the land’s bosom when the sea became too harsh.

Their origins are hidden in legendary folklore and they possible owe their existence to the two legendary sisters Moo and Gan. Moo’s husband entered Gan’s quarters accidentally and this led to a feud and Moo ventured into the sea. The Moken are still searching for Moo at sea.

The Moken lived on stilted huts and their way of life was always in sync with nature. They attracted international attention for the first time during the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 due to their heroic deeds when they saved their lives and that of others and since then, their

Invigorating Experience

Meeting the Moken community can be a heartening experience since these people are very rooted and humble. They are pious and righteous and welcome tourists with open arms. The bracelets and wood carvings they make are simple yet intricately carved and are prized souvenirs for all of us. They are willing to take tourists on kabang rides as they traverse the sea time and again. All tourists must participate in the La Bong, the annual festival of the Moken when they engaging in reverie and merry making.

Normally held during the 15th cycle of the moon in the month of May, the Moken from Thailand and Myanmar join in the festivities.

However, behind the effervescent laughter lies enduring pain as the older Moken miss the freedom of navigation they enjoyed before national borders and territories became a reality. They also miss travelling to distant lands by crossing the sea at their whims and fancies. However, despite that, attempts to safeguard 70

the interest of the seafaring Moken are on in full swing and tourism has allowed the Moken an opportunity to broaden their vistas.
