ABOUT THE LAST FOUR MONTHS

From execution to impact Dear Partner, In the previous edition, we shared a very clear ambition with you: to turn our strategy into action by strengthening production capacity, improving efficiency and staying closer to the market. Over the past few months, we have continued to move forward on this path. In May, the pet industry came together once again in Nuremberg for Interzoo. Our presence at the event allowed us to closely follow developments in the industry, strengthen relationships with partners from different markets and identify trends that are transforming the way products are developed, presented and communicated. At the same time, we remain focused on the investments that will prepare petMaxi for the years ahead. Every improvement to our facilities, workflows and working conditions has a very clear purpose: to ensure a more reliable, agile and efficient service for those who place their trust in us every day. Growth is not simply about producing more. It means listening more closely, anticipating needs, sharing knowledge and turning our capabilities into value for our partners. As we enter the final four months of the year, we do so with the same conviction: growth only makes sense when it is built together. We will continue to invest in the quality of our products, the consistency of our service and the support we provide to the people who bring petMaxi brands to consumers. Together, we move forward, Luís Guilherme CEO

The Legacy of the InsectERA Agenda The InsectERA Mobilising Agenda has come to an end, concluding a collaborative project dedicated to innovation and sustainability through the valorisation of insect protein. petMaxi’s participation enabled us to strengthen investment in I&D and apply industrial expertise to the development of new animal nutrition solutions. One of the project’s main outcomes was the creation of happyOne Premium Adult Dog – Insect Protein, a complete food featuring an alternative protein source with high nutritional value and a lower environmental impact.

HOW IS THE SHELF LIFE OF A FOOD PRODUCT DETERMINED?

Construction work at our factory is progressing, bringing to life a project focused on growth, innovation and preparing for the challenges ahead. See how the future of petMaxi is taking shape, step by step.

The date shown on food packaging is something we are all used to paying attention to. But how is it determined? And does “Use by” mean the same as “Best before”? In this edition, we help clarify these questions and share some of the work that goes into defining what may seem like a simple date. Shelf life is defined as the period of time during which a food product remains stable and retains its quality and safety characteristics (e.g. sensory, chemical, physical, microbiological and nutritional) when stored under the recommended conditions. Defining the shelf life of a food product therefore involves carrying out shelf-life studies, supported by laboratory analyses, to assess under which conditions and at what rate the product deteriorates. A range of factors are taken into consideration, from the characteristics of the food itself and the manufacturing process to the packaging and storage conditions. These studies may be carried out under accelerated conditions, simulating the evolution of the product over a shorter period of time, or in real time, by keeping the product in storage and carrying out periodic analyses to monitor any physical, chemical or microbiological changes. This close monitoring helps identify potential degradation factors and contributes to improving product formulations. At petMaxi, as with other food products, we also carry out shelf-life studies on dry pet food, enabling us to establish the durability of the products we provide to our customers. Likewise, for our partners, proper date management and good storage conditions are an integral part of preserving product quality. Effective stock rotation helps ensure that products with the shortest remaining shelf life are dispatched first, reducing waste and preventing the accumulation of products approaching the end of their shelf life.

B E H I N D TH E S C E N E S The strength of petMaxi starts with our team.

Teambuilding FUNPARK - KARTING TRACK & ADVENTURE PARK, FÁTIMA

At petMaxi, we know that a strong team is also built outside the daily routine. With this in mind, we brought our teams together at Funpark – Karting Track & Adventure Park in Fátima for a different kind of day, filled with challenges, adrenaline and plenty of fun. Between karting, adventure activities and many shared moments, we strengthened bonds, shared experiences and created new memories together. Because, ultimately, it is our people who make things happen.

We could not end this feature without highlighting the important difference between “Use by” and “Best before”: “USE BY” What does it mean? This indicates the final date by which a product should be consumed. What does it apply to? Microbiologically perishable products (e.g. fresh meat, eggs, ready meals, etc.). It does not apply to foods manufactured by petMaxi

STRENGTHENING CONNECTIONS Events that enhance our positioning and strengthen strategic relationships

INTERZOO

Can products be consumed after this date? They should be consumed by the date indicated.

NUREMBERG, GERMANY

We returned to Nuremberg for another edition of Interzoo, a key event for petMaxi. It was a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, build new connections and explore opportunities to take what we do even further, while continuing to strengthen petMaxi’s presence internationally.

“BEST BEFORE” What does it mean? This indicates the date of minimum durability, up to which the food retains its specific properties. What does it apply to? Microbiologically non-perishable products (e.g. dog and cat food, olive oil, cereals, etc.). It applies to foods manufactured by petMaxi. Can products be consumed after this date? These products may remain suitable for consumption af ter this date, provided that the storage conditions indicated on the respective label have been followed and that the product shows no signs of deterioration, such as changes in its characteristic texture, colour or odour. CARE AND TR ANSFORM A NEW ERA FOR PACKAGING In recent years, we have seen a significant evolution in the way packaging is designed. Recyclability, the efficient use of raw materials and the promotion of a circular economy are playing an increasingly important role. It is within this context that Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWR) has been introduced, generally applicable from 12 August 2026. Over the coming years, increasingly stringent requirements will be introduced regarding the reduction of packaging weight and volume, recyclability, the incorporation of recycled plastic and restrictions on certain substances. This transformation brings new challenges, but also new opportuni-

ties to develop more innovative packaging that is aligned with market expectations. These opportunities can only be achieved through close collaboration between suppliers, manufacturers and customers, based on information sharing and the joint pursuit of the best solutions. It is precisely in this spirit of collaboration that petMaxi aims to support its partners throughout this transition by providing a dedicated guide for private-label products, bringing together the main PPWR requirements, responsibilities and deadlines.

VETERINARIAN’S TIP HEALTHY SKIN AND COAT Nutrition shows on the outside too.

As autumn approaches, many pet owners notice increased shedding in their dogs and cats. In most cases, this renewal is physiological and accompanies the coat’s adaptation to seasonal changes. However, skin and coat quality depends on several factors, with nutrition being one of the most important. Hair is mainly made up of protein. A balanced diet should therefore provide high-quality protein and adequate amounts of essential amino acids. Fatty acids, particularly omega-3 and omega-6, also play an important role in maintaining the integrity of the skin barrier and a healthy coat. Vitamins and minerals such as zinc, copper, biotin and vitamin E are also involved in various processes related to skin and coat renewal. The aim is not to provide these nutrients in excess, but rather to ensure an appropriate nutritional balance.

During periods of increased coat renewal, regular brushing is also essential. Depending on the type and length of the coat, it should be carried out daily or at least several times a week. Brushing helps remove loose and dead hair, prevents matting, reduces the amount of hair ingested during grooming — particularly in cats — and allows skin changes to be detected at an early stage. A shiny coat and healthy skin are often a reflection of good nutrition, regular care and good overall health. However, excessive shedding, itching, redness, flaking or the appearance of bald patches should not automatically be attributed to seasonal changes. Parasites, allergies, infections or other health conditions may be involved. Feeding well is also caring! Dr. Rui Fortunato VETERINARY DOCTOR | TECHNICAL RESPONSIBLE

GROWING PARTNERSHIPS

We share success stories and the impact of collaborations with our customers and partners.

A.COSTA E SILVA Vila do Conde

www.acostaesilva.pt In this edition, we spoke to Luis Filipe Costa e Silva, Commercial Director

WHAT ARE THE ORIGINS OF THE COMPANY? Our story began in 1977, when the company was founded by its current managing partners, António Costa e Silva and Américo Costa e Silva. The family’s connection to the sector goes back to the previous generation: the founders’ parents worked in maize milling and flour production, so this activity had always been part of the family environment. Building on this heritage and experience, the founders decided to establish A. Costa e Silva Lda., preserving that same essence to this day while continuing to evolve and respond to market demands. WHICH AREAS DO YOU OPERATE IN? We operate throughout the country, adapting our presence to the reality of each business. In certain areas, we maintain a more regional approach to ensure proximity, speed and the ability to solve problems on the ground. Our priority is to understand exactly what the customer needs and provide a reliable solution at the right time. We do not simply sell a product: we support the entire process, providing direct and transparent assistance focused on building long-term relationships based on trust. ¿HOW MANY EMPLOYEES DO YOU HAVE AND HOW HAS THE COMPANY EVOLVED? We currently have 23 employees. Our growth has been steady and grounded, as we seek to balance what we already do well with the pursuit of new opportunities. Today, A. Costa e Silva is led by the second generation, continuing a legacy of commitment and entrepreneurial vision. This transition has brought renewed dynamism and a more contemporary perspective on the market, without losing sight of the fundamental values that have always guided us. We maintain a solid and focused structure, while retaining the agility required to explore new segments and adopt more modern ways of working. This combination of experience and the energy of the new management enables us to evolve pragmatically, ensuring both the renewal of the business and the stability of our team. H OW H A S T H E M A R K E T R E S P O N D E D? The response has been excellent and very consistent over time. We have seen strong and widespread acceptance across the areas in which we operate, confirming that our rigorous focus on quality is the right approach. This response reflects our constant commitment to providing materials and solutions that are suited to the market and to our customers’ requirements. When product quality is supported by transparent and reliable service, customer loyalty follows naturally. It is this relationship of trust that motivates us to maintain high standards with every delivery. IS THERE A PARTICULAR MOMENT IN YOUR PARTNERSHIP WITH PETMAXI THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT? Without a doubt, the beginning of the partnership. Believing in the petMaxi project from the very start was a turning point. We were convinced that we had a successful venture ahead of us for both parties — something that time, mutual growth and the results achieved have continued to confirm. More than simply a commercial relationship, the beginning of this partnership demonstrated an alignment of values and business vision. Seeing that first step develop into a solid and lasting collaboration is, without doubt, the most

significant milestone in our shared journey. WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN OBJECTIVES FOR THE COMING YEARS? Our main objective is to continue on this path of growth while remaining firmly grounded. We want to strengthen our capacity and operational efficiency without losing the foundations that have brought us this far: solid, responsible and sustainable management. Our focus is on consolidating our market presence, maintaining financial stability and ensuring that the quality and commitment our customers and partners expect from us remain unchanged. HOW IMPORTANT IS SUSTAINABILITY TO YOUR BUSINESS? It is fundamental to us. Sustainability needs to be integrated into the day-to-day management of any company. It translates into everyday actions: managing resources more effectively, avoiding waste and making sensible choices that deliver genuine efficiency. We aim to ensure that this approach is reflected throughout the entire value chain, from the selection of materials and partners to the organisation of our logistics. It is about adopting simple, intelligent solutions that reduce our impact while maintaining the quality of our service. Ultimately, it means ensuring that the company grows responsibly, respecting the environment while safeguarding the business for the future. WHAT ROLE DOES TECHNOLOGY PLAY IN THE BUSINESS? Technology is playing an increasingly central role in our operations. We have invested in process automation and robotics, combining innovation with the technical expertise accumulated over many years. This modernisation enables us to increase efficiency, optimise resources and reduce the environmental footprint of our production processes, while also empowering our people. Technology is there to support and enhance the work of our team by eliminating repetitive tasks and allowing us to focus on precision, quality and the continuous improvement of our service. WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN CHALLENGES AT PRESENT ? The main challenge is to maintain sustainable growth in a constantly changing market. This requires balanced management: responding quickly to fluctuations in raw material costs and new operational demands without compromising financial stability or the team’s ability to respond. The challenge is not simply to grow, but to ensure that this progress is secure, sustainable in the long term and built on the relationship of trust and transparency we have always maintained with those who work with us. WHAT SETS A. COSTA E SILVA APART IN THE MARKET? In 2027, A. Costa e Silva will celebrate 50 years in business. The journey has not always been easy or straightforward and has required constant adaptation, but we have followed it with an unwavering commitment to our principles. Integrity in our relationships, ethical commitment and the intrinsic quality of our products define the way we position ourselves in the market and guide our relationships with customers and suppliers. Our journey has been built on operational stability, financial discipline and valuing our people. As we approach half a century in business, we do so with pride and with an awareness of the responsibility that comes with this journey, maintaining the same determination, relevance within the sector and credibility as we prepare for the challenges of the future. We greatly value this partnership and wish continued success for many years to come
