DRESSING

THE BRIDAL PARTY Choosing and co-ordinating the outfits for the entire wedding party is usually one of the most enjoyable aspects of planning a wedding. As well as dressing for the occasion, comfort (especially for the children in your wedding party), is a necessity.

Sunlit Studios

The best way to keep your bridesmaids happy is by ensuring they feel comfortable and confident in their chosen dresses. It’s a good idea to start looking early, particularly for shoes and accessories, as it can be a time consuming task if you have a number of bridesmaids. When it comes to the groomsmen’s attire, it’s important to have a basic idea of the style of the bridesmaids’ dresses to ensure they will complement each other. The groomsmen usually differ from the groom by wearing a different coloured vest, tie or other accessories.

MOTHER OF THE BRIDE & GROOM The Mother of the Bride & Groom dress code is generally a little more formal and a little more outstanding than that of other guests. The colour should complement your bridesmaids and be a colour that she is comfortable wearing. Your wedding will be one of the highlights of her life as well, so it’s important that she looks and feels fabulous too!

They say, when you know, you know – and Clara and Leo both knew. It didn’t take either of them long to realise that they had both found ‘the one’, after first meeting each other in the gym. Their mutual attraction was undeniable, and it wasn’t long until they were talking and getting excited about marriage. No formal proposal was needed for this couple. “We knew very early on that we wanted to get married,” says Clara, “so we just went and got the ring together!” They ended up buying a stone from a diamond merchant from Melbourne, and Leo’s friend, who is a jeweller, set it for them. Once it was ready, Clara started wearing it straightaway. So unofficially, they were engaged 8 months into their relationship. They finally made it official after a couple of years, when they organised an engagement party in Sydney with their family and friends. Clara organised their wedding in 18 months, admitting that she did the majority of planning herself. Leo agreed with all her choices though, so they made a good team. “Smart man,” she adds. A lot of time and attention was focused on finding the best vendors suited to them and their wedding, and Austinvilla Estate proved to be the perfect choice for their ceremony and reception. Clara says they were “absolutely incredible – the staff were wonderful and made everything seamless.”

In the lead up to their special day, Clara and Leo had three dance lessons from Fifth Avenue Dance Studio, in Ashmore. While Clara admits neither of them were crazy about dancing, they enjoyed their lessons with Maki. It helped them feel much more confident for their first dance. The day before their wedding, they also invited their friends and family who had travelled from Sydney and the Gold Coast to a lovely pre-wedding celebratory lunch. They awoke to a beautiful fine day on the morning of their wedding. Walking down the aisle and throughout their ceremony, they both felt a sense of calm and happiness. One of their bridesmaids read a lovely passage, and Clara says, “the ceremony was perfect for us.” www.WeddingGuide.com.au

“All our suppliers were amazing,” says Clara, “the staff at Austinvilla Estate really put in the extra effort.” They loved their Croquembouche wedding cake made by Austinvilla Estate, and she says, “our photographer was incredible too.” Their guests had a lot of fun, and the only surprise for Clara and Leo, was how quickly the day went! After their perfect wedding day, they were happy to spend their wedding night in the comfort of their own home. They then had an amazing European honeymoon, visiting Italy, Greece, France, and Dubai. Clara & Leo’s wedding advice:

“Don’t try to make everything too formal on the day... just be yourself and have fun! Enjoy every moment as the day goes so fast!”

Dubbed “Mad Love” by the bride, their wedding was anything but ordinary. Their life together had never had a dull moment since they met, and they both agreed that they wanted their wedding to be unique and fun. Prior to their meeting, Anne and Greg found themselves in similar situations. Both were exiting long term relationships, and neither were really searching for love. They were on a journey to find themselves and meet different people, so their friends convinced them to try a dating app. Anne says, “Greg was moving up to Mackay from Ipswich and apparently wanted a friend to show him the sights”. She says he stalked her profile, swiped right and sent her a “hi”. For the next few days, they messaged each other constantly. “We finally had our first date, like two shy school kids,” she remembers, “but the conversation, laughing, and the connection was off the charts. Pretty sure we both knew then that we were both walking into something with no end.” It was Christmas of 2021 when Greg planned his surprise proposal. Anne had no idea. They had planned to spend Christmas with all their children and her family. Anne knew she would be busy on Christmas day preparing platters, so she asked Greg the night before to do one job for her in the morning – which was to collect the hot chooks. She reminded him again in the morning, but an hour later, she was still waiting for him to do his one job!

She says, “so I went and did that one job myself.” Still annoyed at him, they went to her sister’s place as planned. When they arrived, her sister called her in to show her a Christmas present. Then when she returned outside, she says, “Greg was down on one knee (with a knee pad on), with his two kids by his side and my kids and family sitting silently and patiently.” Though still annoyed at him over his ‘one job’, she says, “How could I say no!” Anne was a little more forgiving when she found out later that Greg had been planning his proposal to her for months. He had asked for her father’s permission, approached her children for their approval, and had also asked for her sister’s permission to propose at her place on Christmas day. “So maybe I could be a little more lenient with him,” she admits. Planning their wedding together over the next 12 months was fun and exciting for them. “We laughed and joked and tried to imagine what it would be like if we could go to Movie World,” she says. She called Village Roadshow to make a few enquiries, and to her excitement, they confirmed that it was possible! On their wedding day, their excited guests arrived from Mackay, Rockhampton, and Moranbah. Though they didn’t know when they would arrive, Anne and Greg had also hired their favourite characters to make an entrance at some point during their wedding. Anne says, “I was left speechless at the alter when the Joker and Harley Quinn hustled down the aisle as our celebrant, Leisa, asked for any objections. Harley pushed me out of the way, waiting for the Joker to continue reading the vows.” Anne says they were fabulous and really set the vibe for their amazing night to come. They had everyone laughing and even returned to crash their reception later that night.

reallifeweddings “Everything about our day was memorable, unique, and very special to us both.” They were lucky enough to have the privilege of entering the park a few hours before their ceremony, so their photographer took the opportunity to get wedding photos before their early evening ceremony. They all had a blast! They were congratulated by visitors to the park, and they even chatted to the band members of Sheppard – but only realised it was them once they had walked away! “The whole day was very meaningful to us both, as we were bringing our blended family together, to unite as one.” They exchanged extra rings with each child’s first letter of their name engraved inside it - and these were presented to them by their kids. They also sealed a time capsule containing their love notes, to be unsealed in 15 years’ time. Anne recalls how unbelievable their experience was at their dream location. They wanted something unique and fun, and that’s exactly what they got! Beck and the team at Movie World organised everything to help them achieve their dream wedding. Held in The Justice League Hall, Anne says it looked amazing and more beautiful than she expected. They were impressed with the outstanding service from the staff and how their buffet was elegantly delivered to every table. “No standing in line, table by table. Every guest commented on how amazing the food looked and tasted,” she says. Guests also commented on the uniqueness of their wedding, how amazing the reception looked, their fun themed cake and the outstanding service. “It made Greg and I so happy to know that everyone had something positive to say and enjoyed our unique ‘Mad Love’ celebration.” They spent their wedding night at Azzure Green Resort with their kids, family, and friends, and then a post wedding night at Sea World Resort. Beck made sure that they had one of the most beautiful rooms with a spa, a gorgeous view, and a full buffet breakfast. “Was magical,” says Anne. “Greg and I couldn’t be happier with the whole day and night. It was everything that we wanted and more. We were so lucky and pleased with everyone that was involved in our day. The love, fun and happiness that we all had makes our heart and souls warm.” Anne and Greg then honeymooned at Mount Tamborine, in a little wooden cottage at the Polish Place. With a spectacular view of the mountain, they enjoyed their spa, fireplace, and the company of some very entertaining parrots.

“We can’t thank all our vendors and suppliers enough for helping us create our perfect MAD LOVE celebration. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.. We love and cherish you all. Terri from Sugar Mobile and Make Up – Her fun personality was so contagious. She really knew how to calm my nerves with a few cheeky jokes. Terri transformed me and left me absolutely speechless. Terri also had Kelly assist us with our hair. They work so great together. Anthony Jackson Media – OMG…what can I say about this gent. Anthony was amazing. His work, attitude and vibe really set the mood for us all. We could see that he was having as much fun as us, going through Movie World. Michelle and Grant McCullen – they escorted the Bridal party from Azzure Green to Movie World in their Mustang. Oh what a ride, definitely won’t forget that in a hurry. Tina from Flower Box Rockhampton – Tina is a very dear friend of mine. I left the decision-making to her. I knew that she would produce the most amazing bouquets for us. I nearly cried when I saw my flowers. That wasn’t her first rodeo for me. Wendy Matthews - MC and another dear friend. Took control with helping the staff with setup of our ceremony and reception. She took the reins and made sure our night could be enjoyed with no hassles. Leah from Ipswich Cake room – I had sent photos to Leah of the cake we wanted. I was shocked when I saw it. It was better than the pics that I’d originally sent her. Leisa Ottley Celebrants – wow this lady has some funk. Leisa arrived to our wedding in a hot pink suit, to fit our theme. She absolutely rocked it. Her fun ceremony really fitted us both and our MAD LOVE. Beck Crosse – the lady that made it all happen for us. One heck of an amazing lady that goes above and beyond to fulfill your dreams. Without Beck’s help and keeping in contact with me, reassuring me and saying yes we can do this…she made planning our wedding a real treat.” Anne & Greg’s best wedding advice:

“Communicate with your vendors/suppliers. Don’t be a Bridezilla as all your vendors/suppliers are doing their job to make sure everything is perfect for your special day as well. Listen to their ideas, share your ideas, but most importantly – trust them. This isn’t their first rodeo. They all do their job for a reason; they love what they do and love seeing the final masterpiece come together. Relax and go with the flow. No wedding is perfect. It was love at first sight for Sam on the night he met Grace at the American Hotel in Echuca, Victoria. So, it was not surprising when he made plans to propose to Grace two years later. While holidaying at Burleigh, on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Sam had organised a morning hike with Grace and a few of their best friends. When they arrived at the top of the lookout overlooking the stunning views, Sam turned to Grace and said, “I have a question for you.” He then got down on one knee and said, “Will you marry me?” Grace thought their friends were just taking photos and admiring the view, however she later learned that they were in fact videoing the whole proposal. They were in on Sam’s surprise proposal and made sure they captured the precious memories for them both. Grace remembers it as, “the proposal of my dreams!” Once they returned to their accommodation at Burleigh, they popped the champagne to celebrate with more of their friends who were waiting for their return, and they all went out for a beautiful dinner. Once back in Victoria, their celebrations continued with their family.

Unfortunately, their wedding was brought forward due to a parent receiving the devastating diagnosis of stage 4 cancer. With just under three months to plan their wedding, they decided on a very intimate wedding with only their closest family members and their bridal party.

It was the best

“We had the most special day even though it was a very small wedding. It was the best day and night” Grace says.

day and night

Guests travelled from across Victoria and interstate to attend their wedding in Echuca. “We are so glad that our nearest and dearest could celebrate with us,” she says. “Sam and I both had our grandmas witness our marriage, which was very special!” Echuca was the perfect location for their wedding. Both loved spending time there, and it held a special place in their hearts. This was where they first met each other, and they loved being out on the river water skiing, and just enjoying its beauty. The day of their wedding was cold. It was Winter, and Grace remembers it even started to rain as she was getting out of the car to walk down the aisle. “But it soon stopped,” she recalls, “and the sun came out for us.” Walking down the aisle and seeing Sam standing there was a memorable moment for Grace, and sharing their vows which they had written themselves was very special and emotional for them. Having their fur baby Winnie, a mini-Dachshund, take part in their ceremony was also a highlight. Grace says, “was so special as she is our world.”

One thing Grace had always dreamed about was her wedding dress. Luckily, they were able to fast track her dress to be made in time for their earlier wedding date. “We were so lucky and grateful that all our suppliers were so understanding with our situation and were all so accommodating,” she says. Their reception venue, The Mill; their photographer, Chamore Creations, and their celebrant, Shannon Jeans, made it happen for Grace and Sam in such a short period of time. All of their guests loved everything about their venue, and they had endless comments about how amazing Shannon was, and the fun, loved up and relaxed atmosphere she created for their ceremony. “The ceremony was full of laughter, heartfelt moments, and most importantly, it represented us perfectly as a couple,” says Grace. “The Mill Echuca welcomed us with open arms, and they made every request of ours happen without any issues. The service from all staff was absolutely incredible, and along with the delicious meals, was 11/10.” “Billy J were amazing! Dresses arrived super-fast! And they were absolutely stunning. All my bridesmaids felt comfortable and looked beautiful! The colour and style were everything. I would recommend Billy J to all future brides,” says Grace. www.WeddingGuide.com.au

“From the bottom of our hearts, we thank all of our amazing vendors and suppliers.” At their reception, Sam and Grace wowed their guests with their choreographed first dance. They had always wanted to have a fun, upbeat first dance to the song, ‘I Had the Time of my Life’, from Dirty Dancing. Even though it was organised at the very last minute (in the week before their wedding) they did it and had heaps of fun in their three short lessons! They also had a father-daughter dance and a mother-son dance to Elton John’s song, ‘Your Song’. “Something we will truly cherish,” they both agree. When their celebration came to an end, Sam and Grace spent their wedding night at a beautiful Airbnb in Echuca. At a later stage, they hope to go on a honeymoon to either a tropical destination in Queensland, or to their dream destination – the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Grace & Sam’s wedding advice:

“Enjoy every moment as it truly goes fast. Soak up all the moments.

Have a list of photos that you want captured and go through it with your photographer. Chamore Creations were amazing and captured our day and all our moments. Relax and enjoy the morning of and dance the night away!”

Elizabeth and Clark first met on Bumble in December 2017. By February 2018 they had officially started dating, and then in 2022, Clark’s romantic proposal set the stage for their memorable wedding to follow 16 months later. Elizabeth was so pleased when she found out that Clark had planned an amazing trip for them to Tasmania in June 2022. Being a teacher, she says “I thought it was just a getaway to relax on the school holidays.” But this was not just any holiday. Clark had organised for them to stay in an incredibly beautiful, secluded house in Rocky Hills, which overlooked Oyster Bay. “It had a beautiful outdoor bath, big fireplace, huge floor to ceiling 180-degree window views of Oyster Bay in the distance,” she remembers. He did an amazing job of keeping his surprise proposal a secret from Elizabeth. She didn’t suspect a thing! “I initially thought I was going to propose to Liz in the morning with the sunrise,” he says, “but I forgot that Liz was definitely not a morning person, so I woke up early and seeing her fast asleep I realised that it wasn’t a great idea.” Instead, he cooked her breakfast, ran a bath for her on the deck outside, and decided to wait for sunset to propose. “Sunset came around and she was fast asleep on the rug in front of the fire next to a cheese board. I woke her up” he continues, “and asked her to come and see the sunset.”

Not realising his plans to propose, Elizabeth woke up and told him she was going to warm up some pasta first as she was very hungry despite having breakfast, lunch, and a cheeseboard. He says, “I stopped her and told her to come quick, but she still insisted on grabbing a bag of Mars Pods and came over. As she was watching the sunset, I turned to the bookshelf and grabbed the ring, and got on one knee and proposed. She attempted to put the bag of pods on the nearest chair but dropped them and then accepted the proposal.” Once they began their wedding planning, they agreed on most details. Elizabeth found she was a bit more budget conscious than Clark, but when it came to their vows, their opinions differed on what they considered was a suitable length. Eventually they decided on 500 words each. “I like being quite open with my emotions,” says Elizabeth, but she soon realised that her 900-word vows might be better given as a private letter to read the morning of. Both had their hearts set on a beautiful location with stunning mountain views for their ceremony and reception. Clark originally thought they would get married on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, but Elizabeth said, “The view is the same in Toowoomba, we live here now, why don’t we get married in Toowoomba?” Preston Peak Winery was the first place they looked at, and they didn’t even bother searching elsewhere. “The view and location were exactly what we were looking for,” she says. “We found a suitable date and booked it in as soon as we could.” Elizabeth and Clark made sure they also left time for fun while organising their wedding day. “I had a sleepover themed Hen party one night where my Bridesmaids and I made up a dance to perform for my friends, which was so fun,” she remembers, “then the second night we went out for Karaoke.” The following weekend Clark held his Buck’s weekend at a friend’s property in Kingscliff. They organised a ‘Weekend Olympics’ where they sorted themselves into teams and enjoyed fun athletics type activities.

reallifeweddings When their special day arrived, Elizabeth recalls how perfect the weather was, “nice and sunny, not a cloud in the sky, not too hot, a soft breeze.” Guests from Brisbane, Laidley, Cairns, Melbourne, and the Philippines celebrated with them and commented on the excellent food and how much fun they had. Elizabeth says, “For me, the most special aspect of the day, was finally getting to see Clark at the end of the aisle after a huge day of waiting. He looked so handsome in his suit, and I was just so happy to see him. I was just beaming the whole walk down and didn’t cry once – I thought I would, but I just couldn’t stop smiling at him.” Elizabeth and Clark also had their dog, Bryan, as their ring bearer. It was special for them and added a cute element to their day. “The most memorable part of the day was probably the speech by one of our Groomsmen. It was so heartfelt and lovely and was just so eye-opening to hear his point of view of how he saw our lives come together,” she says. “He is a bit of a larrikin, but his speech was so eloquent and well-written and heartfelt.” A special addition at their reception was having some freshly cut roses from Clark’s mum’s garden added to their reception table vase arrangements. Clark and his grandma shared a special bond, and this was their way of honouring her memory through Clark’s mum’s flowers. During their reception, Clark randomly brought their leftover confetti onto the dancefloor. Elizabeth remembers how much fun it was, throwing it up and having it rain down on everyone. She says, “Friends were even lying down on the ground and making ‘confetti snow angels’ out of it.” They both agreed that Preston Peak Winery was a dream location. The views, the facilities, the food, and the staff. “The Preston Peak staff were super accommodating and nothing was a problem,” Elizabeth says, “they were always more than happy to help out and answer the many, many questions that I had.” “Our photographer, Jess from Jessica Stannard Photography, was amazing,” she also adds. Elizabeth appreciated her calm and patient presence throughout the whole process, helping them with posing, answering questions, and with extra editing touches requested. www.WeddingGuide.com.au

I just couldn’t stop smiling at him

“Our florist Bridie, from Blooms by Bridie, was lovely as well,” she recalls. “About a week before the wedding, I was worried that my brightly coloured bridesmaid dresses wouldn’t suit the flowers, but she helped me look at extra Pinterest boards and reassured me with other client photos, that it would all come together, and it did perfectly.” Elizabeth says it feels strange not to be contacting them frequently anymore, as she felt like they were close friends by the end of the process. After their eventful wedding day, Elizabeth, Clark and their dog, Bryan returned to their home. They recall how nice it was to go home and not need to pack another bag, but just debrief about the day, sit with their doggy, and chat together. “We also opened all our wedding cards because we were too hyped up, we couldn’t sleep. It was fun!” For their honeymoon, she says, “we are going to Canada (Montreal, Quebec City and Ottawa) for some glorious snow and amazing views, and then St. Lucia in the Caribbean, for some scuba diving and hiking.” Elizabeth and Clark’s wedding advice:

“Don’t sweat the small stuff! Do whatever you want, and don’t feel peer pressure to invite people that you don’t see often just because you’re getting married.”

An elegant fairy-tale themed wedding was the perfect fit for this couple. Born in Rockhampton, they first met each other in Year 5, at primary school. Then at 15 years of age, Ewan asked Afton to be his Valentine - and they have been together ever since! After graduating high school, they endured a long-distance relationship for a while, with Afton staying in Rockhampton to start a Bachelor of Primary Education while Ewan moved to Brisbane to commence a Bachelor of Pharmacy. 2020 however brought with it some welcome changes. It was the year Afton decided to continue her studies in Brisbane, so she joined Ewan and they moved into an apartment, along with their fur baby, Penny. It was also the year Ewan proposed. Unfortunately, his plans to propose on a romantic Nordic trip in Estonia were blocked by the arrival of COVID. Ewan didn’t want to wait any longer though, so he planned a surprise trip to the Gold Coast and proposed to Afton on one knee in the beautiful apartment he had booked. “It was such a special and surreal moment being just the two of us,” recalls Afton. “We still look back on this memory and think about how we wish we could live it all over again.”

As they were both still studying, they had to plan their wedding around their university break. 18 months worked out to be the perfect amount of planning time they needed. Ewan and Afton both enjoyed the lead up to their wedding, and highly recommend organising a few pre-wedding celebrations. “Your wedding day goes by so fast, and it is an opportunity to spend quality time with your guests and make many beautiful memories to look back on.” Their pre-wedding celebrations included an engagement party, a bridal shower and a hen and bucks’ night. Afton says, “A specific memory I have of the morning of our wedding was waking up in the cottage and walking out to the balcony to see the sun shining on my wedding gown.” She remembers the rain holding off and the winter air making their wedding seem all the more magical. Guests from Rockhampton, Hervey Bay and Brisbane joined them for their special day at Shambala Estate.

Wearing a beautiful wedding gown and her Nana’s ruby and diamond ring, Afton walked down the aisle with her dad, accompanied by the sounds of her former high school choir teacher playing the piano. Afton admits that walking down the aisle with her dad, seeing Ewan, and being surrounded by the love of their family and friends were some of her most memorable moments of their wedding. For Ewan, seeing Afton for the first time as she walked down the aisle to him, and their first dance which they spent months rehearsing were his most memorable moments. There were so many special moments. Ewan wore gold cufflinks given to him from Afton’s parents, which Afton explains, is a family tradition. “Each groom wears a set of cufflinks with the bride and grooms initial engraved on them.” Their high school choir teacher also surprised them, with a choir performance with past members singing a song that they had both sang at a music festival in year 11. Afton says guests were in awe of the stunning chapel, gardens, and reception room at Shambala Estate. She says, “Everything about this venue is simply stunning, the fairy light backdrop, light up dance floor, and a beautiful staircase for the bridal party to enter in from.” She recalls that from the very beginning they were taken care of by their incredible staff, including Lisa and their day of coordinator, Bi, who went above and beyond throughout the whole process.

Though surprised by how fast their wedding went by, they both say they wouldn’t change anything. “It was a dream come true and everything we could have ever hoped for.” Their first night was spent at The Cottages on Mt. Tamborine which was a convenient two-minute drive from Shambala Estate. It was perfect for them with a cosy fireplace, and their dog, Penny was even welcome! Ewan planned their honeymoon as a surprise, and it wasn’t until they arrived at the airport that Afton found out they were headed to the Maldives – her absolute dream location! “We stayed at Oblu Select Lobigili in an over the water villa and were treated like royalty throughout the entirety of our stay,” she says. Looking back at their special day, Ewan and Afton still can’t believe how perfect it was. “Beginning married life together and writing the beginning of our next chapter at the most beautiful venue is truly the biggest blessing and fairy-tale.” Afton and Ewan’s wedding advice:

“A lot of the day is structured around time frames, as difficult as it is, try to relax and let the people around you worry about the deadlines. Another piece of advice would be to not worry about the small stuff, everything always works out in the end and you will look back and not even remember.”

When Carla received a diagnosis of stage 4 ovarian cancer in September of 2023, it prompted a decision which she and Michael had put on the backburner for too long. During their four year relationship, they had talked about marriage many times, but it had always ended in an argument. “We couldn’t agree on one important aspect. A wedding, or no wedding?” she says. Carla didn’t want one. Her preference was to get married in a registry office. Michael on the other hand wanted a wedding. Once they learned of her diagnosis however, they knew they had to get past their argument and just get married. So Michael got his wedding. “He doesn’t often win arguments with me,” she says, “but he won that one…and it was perfect. I’m pleased he won that one.” During the five weeks it took to plan their wedding, Carla was undergoing chemotherapy and was unwell most days. Michael planned much of their wedding himself, with the help of a wonderful team of volunteers from their neighbourhood. Their wedding day soon arrived, bringing with it a few surprises! On the day of the wedding their photographer got sick and due to Carla having chemo, she had to avoid being around sick people. This meant they had to find another photographer!

“Sarah took on the job at literally the last minute,” says Carla, “she was absolutely perfect. She is not only an excellent photographer, she is a beautiful human being. She was relaxed, confident, obliging, fun, adventurous and got some amazing shots. She also understood the significance of the day and took the time to get shots of me with everyone, so there are memories for everyone who attended.” Carla also surprised Michael. She had planned to just grab a dress out of her wardrobe, but thanks to her mum who took her shopping three weeks out from the wedding, she was able to surprise him by walking down the aisle in a lovely wedding gown! And she also managed to surprise herself on the day – finding herself with enough energy to make it through the whole day without too much trouble. Asked what their experience at the venue was like and she jokingly replies, “it was our house, so all complaints fell on deaf ears.” Seriously though, both Carla and Michael love their hilltop view and wouldn’t have wanted to have been married anywhere else. It was their dream location. Their community rallied around them and really made their wedding what it was, she says. “They provided the entire set-up, the cake, the grazing boards - and I will never be able to repay them for their kindness and generosity.” Due to everyone’s amazing help, they only needed to book a photographer and celebrant to make their wedding day complete.

Carla recalls how perfect their day was. Not only was the weather absolutely stunning, but “the fact that it was at home and that all the people who meant anything to us had all been able to make it” she says. Their guest list included guests from South-East Queensland, Victoria and New Zealand. Both Carla and Michael were focussed on making memories and wanted their guests to be relaxed and comfortable on the day. “Just having all of our friends and family around us at the same time was magical.” “We are thrilled to be married and hope for better health in the future.” Best advice for other brides:

“Don’t stress. Stressing out about details is what you will regret. Let things go – ask yourself, does it really matter all that much?”

They had promised years ago that if they ever got married, they would go to Mykonos. Why Mykonos? Because it was the name of the units in which they lived, and where they first met. Sharon lived above John’s unit in Manly, Brisbane. They met each other over the balcony. On a driving holiday from Brisbane to Airlie Beach and Fraser Island, they decided to stop at Carnarvon Caves, west of Rockhampton. They explored the caves and then checked into a private cabin. Due to COVID travel restrictions at the time, they had the entire campground to themselves. It was the perfect location for John’s surprise proposal! “We were sitting on our balcony (at the cabin) enjoying a couple of sundowner drinks, watching the sunset, when John asked me to look at a little bird in the tree” explains Sharon. She told him that she could see it, but that wasn’t enough. He kept insisting that she take a closer look. As she walked over, he got down on his knee and proposed!

“It was very romantic, and I had no idea that he was about to propose,” she says. They planned their wedding in nine months, and found it was the perfect amount of time for them. “We agreed on everything,” says Sharon, “no compromises were necessary as we know each other very well.” A highlight of their planning was attending Your Local Wedding Guide’s Brisbane Expo in May 2022. They won the Major Prize Package which included a tailored wedding ceremony from Fabian Lizza Celebrant (Hitched by Fabs) and a custom-made suit from Black Jacket Suiting! “The expo played an amazing role in our wedding,” she says. Sharon and John recall how amazing Fabian, their celebrant was. “He helped us feel relaxed from the moment we met him. On the day, he was incredible with the guests prior to the ceremony, and during the ceremony made us feel relaxed whilst being the centre of attention.” While every detail of their wedding was important to them, finding a wedding location was top of their list as they wanted it to be perfect. They eventually chose Cherbon Waters at Burbank. www.WeddingGuide.com.au

“Beautiful location, feels like you are in the countryside,” John and Sharon agreed, “the owners were helpful and non-intrusive.” It was their perfect location - though sailing around the Mediterranean on a superyacht would have worked for them too! When their special day arrived, it was perfect. A beautiful clear day welcomed them and their guests, who had travelled from the UK, NSW, and Sunshine coast to celebrate their wedding. After 14 years together, they were so happy to share their amazing day with their family and friends. Seeing Sharon walk towards him was emotional, says John. Their other special memories were of their first dance, John’s speech, and his son Ryan’s speech as their best man. Ryan also created the design on the wine glasses which were etched with Sharon and John’s names and wedding date, and then filled with heart shaped chocolates as a gift to their guests. “Everything was perfect, just the way we wanted it to be,” says Sharon and John. They spent their wedding night at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron at Manly, and their honeymoon in Greece and Italy.

“When we first met at the units named Mykonos, 14 years ago, we always said if we ever got married, we’d go there. And we did,” says Sharon. “We travelled to Mykonos being a highlight, the archaeological tour of Greece was incredible. Florence and Milan – fantastic!” Sharon & John’s wedding advice:

PHOTOGRAPHY

Choosing a wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you will make when planning your wedding. Whoever you choose will be in charge of creating lasting memories of your special day, so take into account the style, special effects and quality of the photographs you would like. Your photography requirements are unique, so it is important to choose a photographer that reflects your personal style and meets your wedding needs.

Candid style shots are still popular with couples leaning towards a more authentic look to their photos - less formal, posed type shots and more relaxed, natural, free form images.

UNDER THE VEIL NATURAL ENVIRONMENT PHOTOGRAPHY & DRONES Taking advantage of the natural beauty surrounding them, photographers are creating some breathtaking photos for weddings. With these shots, the couple are captured within a setting that shows them to be a small part of a much larger environment. This connection with nature produces powerfully emotive images.

As well as amazing veil shots - couples snuggling under the bride’s veil is also having a resurgence. Sarah Bradford Photography

Couples are also taking advantage of Drones to capture stunning aerial shots of them in the Natural Environment from a whole different perspective.

CANDID GUEST CAPTURE

While candid shots of the couple are popular, so too are shots of the guests. Whether they are captured enjoying the wedding ceremony or reception, these candid shots highlight the atmosphere of your special day. Sarah Bradford Photography

romantic loving gift, NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN WHAT IS AN INTIMATE PORTRAIT? Your wedding day photos are for family and friends, bridal boudoir is more private, just for you and your partner to enjoy. Don’t think you’re photogenic? Nonsense! I’ll bring out the best of you with professional hair/makeup artists and great lighting and posing. Whether you want to do a surprise photo album for your partner for the Wedding day or afterwards for an anniversary, I’ll create a gift they will never ever forget! And one of my most popular, is a gift voucher from friends or partners for Brides-to-be as a wedding present or a hens party gift. You can shoot before or after the big day and gift vouchers have no expiration date.

WHY DO A BRIDAL BOUDOIR SHOOT? This is the most beautiful day of your life, so why not capture yourself at your best when you feel incredibly empowered. There’ll never be another time to photograph you in your unique wedding dress or a better time to give your lover beautiful photos. Everyone deserves to feel special in this celebrity-style magazine photoshoot. But apart for all these reasons, you deserve to be pampered in an indulgent experience where you can relax and have fun! All my girls I’ve shot have thoroughly enjoyed the process; from coming up with a unique theme, choosing lingerie, to enjoying the day and feeling like a Queen. Plus it’s a great rehearsal for your wedding day, when you get to put the dress on and style your hair and makeup as a test run for the big day.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE SHOOT? Once you’ve decided to do the shoot, I’ll be in contact with you several times leading up to shoot-day, where we discuss everything including theme, outfits and the general vibe you’re into. I like to book the shoots 2 months before your date to make sure the photo albums or fine art prints are done on time. I make the process as fun as possible for you, so even if you have no idea what you want, I suggest many concepts and can even totally take care of things. This way you don’t have to think about anything, just turn up to the shoot with the outfits I’ve listed and my Professional team takes charge. On arrival, you’ll receive champagne to start the party! And even if you’re nervous (as you might not have done anything like this before), my fun team will alleviate all worries. We will put on music and my magicians (hair and makeup artists) will get to work on you. After lots of laughs you will get into your first outfit and we start the photography.

Throughout your shoot I will pose you from head to toe and completely direct you. And don’t worry ,we will have champagne breaks in between outfits! I’ll explain exactly how to do everything and light you perfectly to bring out your best features. And you won’t have to worry about any blemishes as I retouch the photos to whatever level you desire. TO DISCUSS YOUR BEAUTIFUL SHOOT PLEASE CALL ANALISA ON 0475877573. SEE MY WEBSITE

rings&jewellery

RINGS & JEWELLERY The exchange of rings is the most traditional expression of your love for one another. Remember when selecting your engagement or wedding ring, they will be worn for the rest of your life, so think carefully about your investment. Make sure the ring is comfortable to wear and that the metal, style and finish fits your lifestyle and is a perfect reflection of you. When selecting the stone, particularly a diamond, the four most important characteristics to look for are the cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. While the diamond is the most traditional choice of gem, there are lots of interesting coloured gems to choose from if you prefer.

WEDDING STYLING & HIRE When it comes to wedding styling, we often put weddings into categories such as rustic, bohemian and vintage to name a few. In reality though, every wedding is unique and these categories are not meant to be rigid, but more a framework to work with and take from it what appeals to you. Professional wedding stylists can decorate your ceremony right through to your reception in a way that reflects who you are as a couple. They can help you narrow down your wedding ‘look’ and supply you with beautiful decor to suit your style.

catering

CATERING There’s one thing guests always remember about a wedding - the food and drinks! If you’ve chosen a specialised reception centre or hotel venue, they will usually organise the catering as part of their service to you. However, if you are holding your reception at home, at a hall, in a garden, or another non-specialised venue, you will need to organise your own catering. Food trucks, mobile bars, coffee carts and ice-cream carts are very popular at weddings. Whether they’re offering unique gourmet food, alcoholic drinks, coffee or tasty treats, they’re a great idea if you’re organising your own catering. Their service usually includes the preparation and serving of food and/or drinks, the provision of cutlery and crockery, and the cleaning up afterwards.

bomboniere

BOMBONIERE It is a nice idea to leave your guests something to take home as a token of appreciation for their attendance and gifts. ‘Bomboniere’ is an Italian word meaning ‘sweet favour’ (French Bonbonniere), and in Australia the word has come to represent the small gift the married couple gives to each reception guest. Traditionally a bag of five sugared almonds to signify health, wealth, happiness, long life and fertility, bomboniere now takes many forms.

TRANSPORT

Sunlit Studios

Transport can be as simple as decorating the best cars you, your friends and family have to offer, or as unique and charming as a horse drawn carriage, fleet of vintage cars, BMW convertibles, Chrysler 300C’s or a stretch limousine. But it doesn’t end there; buses, motorbikes and even helicopters have been used to create an awe inspiring entrance. Arrangements to and from the wedding ceremony usually only differ in that afterwards the bride and groom will travel together. Organising wedding transport is usually a task that the groom, best man or groomsmen organise. With a number of different styles of vehicles available, you should have no trouble choosing one that reflects your overall wedding theme, however book as early as possible as they are popular and you don’t want to be disappointed.

honeymoon&accommodation

HONEYMOON & ACCOMMODATION A honeymoon has traditionally been the time when newly married couples relax and recuperate after their wedding. Often taken in exotic or romantic locations it allows the newly married couple to enjoy an intimate holiday together before returning to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Some couples with busy schedules or budget constraints may choose to just have a ‘mini moon’ which is a short trip taken to a destination relatively nearby, leaving the honeymoon to a later date when they have the time and budget. Whether a honeymoon or mini moon, reservations should be made as soon as you start planning your wedding, particularly if the destination will be experiencing it’s peak season at the time of your getaway. Before you embark on your honeymoon, it’s a good idea to choose somewhere special to stay on your wedding night; preferably close to your reception as you may not feel like travelling too far. While that gorgeous little cottage in the woods may seem like the ideal ‘ first night’ spot; after a two- hour drive, you will probably just want to go to sleep!

Sarah Bradford Photography

Flowers, chocolates, champagne and a spa bath can make your first night together as a married couple extra special, and many accommodation venues provide these as part of their special honeymoon packages.
