ABOUT MAKE-A-WISH

Since 1980, Make-A-Wish has granted hundreds of thousands of life-changing wish experiences worldwide. Our vision is to grant the heartfelt wish of every eligible child battling critical illness.

Presented by WELCOME TO Waltzing

Wishes are not reserved for children with terminal illnesses. In fact, medical research connects wish experiences to better health outcomes! Wishes are catalysts for hope — profoundly effective in fueling a child's drive to defy the odds and push toward tomorrow. Families are unified and entire communities are enriched — the positive impact is boundless. It is because of generous donors, dedicated volunteers and valuable partners in the medical community that each wish becomes a reality. Thank you for helping to ensure every eligible child receives their one true wish when they need it most! for Wishes

Make-A-Wish, the Waltzing for Wishes Committee and the Lubbock Regional Council are pleased to host the 15th Annual Waltzing for Wishes presented by West Texas Land Guys. This year's magical event will take place on August 27 at The Overton Hotel & Conference Center. Along with a delicious dinner, live music and an exciting auction, the evening features a dance competition between local celebrities and the opportunity to meet and interact with wish kids. Join us as we honor children battling critical illnesses and celebrate the impact a wish has on them, their families and entire communities that support them.

Bryan Mudd is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, but is now a proud West Texan with a long journalistic history in Lubbock. Bryan became the weeknight news anchor for KAMC in September 2009. Bryan spent 11 years covering sports for various stations, including KAVU-TV in Victoria, Texas, KRBC-TV in Abilene, Texas, WITN-TV in Greenville, North Carolina, and KCBD-TV in Lubbock. An active member of the community, Bryan spends much of his spare time working with various civic organizations. Bryan enjoys movies, cooking, watching sports and relaxing with his wife, Sheri. When not on the news you can usually find Bryan teaching his daughter Olivia the finer points of football, basketball and tailgating. If you miss him, he’s probably grilling in the backyard with his sons, Tanner and Peyton.

Meet our Starlight Dancer Rhue

Meet wish kid Rhue! She loves her family and playing outside, especially in the summer. Earlier this year, Rhue’s wish for a backyard playhouse was granted! She recently faced a difficult journey with cancer, and Rhue wanted a place to play and spend time with her sister and cousins. Her playhouse features a wraparound porch, pergola, air conditioner and some of her favorite toys. Rhue’s wish brought her hope and joy, and we are so excited to feature her as our Starlight Dancer this evening! Meet our Emcee

A MESSAGE FROM THE WALTZING FOR WISHES CO-CHAIRS

On behalf of our entire wish community, thank you for your partnership and support. Until every wish is granted, Allison Childress & Candice Hayes Waltzing For Wishes 2022 Co-Chairs

A wish makes an immediate and lasting impact on the lives of medically eligible children, their families and the child’s entire community. Results from our recent Wish Impact Survey confirmed that the vast majority of wish alumni, parents, and medical providers agree that the wish experience contributes substantially to the physical, mental and emotional health of the child. Their families and support systems are also strengthened by the experience. We have the opportunity to bring hope, strength and joy into the lives of children and their families in the midst of their medical journeys. Right now, we have nearly 1,300 eligible children waiting for their wishes to be granted. The numbers become real when you meet one of our wish kids. Seeing the sparkle in the eyes of our local wish kids and hearing their amazing stories brings utter clarity to our mission. Throughout the evening, please take a moment to meet and speak with one of our wish kids. We trust you will be as inspired as we are by the joy in their voices and the hope they have for the Afuture.wish begins with hope. Hope begins with you. Tonight, and well into the future, we are committed to ensuring that joy and hope-filled journeys will continue to unfold for the next generation of wish children here in Lubbock!

We are excited to welcome you to the 15th Annual Waltzing For Wishes! We can’t thank you enough for joining us as we celebrate our incredible wish kids and the transformative power of our wish-granting mission.

Wishes need you! More kids are waiting for wishes than ever before, with over 60 children waiting in Lubbock. Your support can change their lives providing strength, hope and transformation for children with critical illnesses. MOMENTS OF MAGIC

Meet the Dancers

Krista Gerlich

Ryan has gotten to know and love the people of the South Plains as a reporter and anchor for KAMC News. He is notorious for having two left feet and has never danced a day in his life before this event, but he has always been impressed by KAMC’s commitment to community. He’s thrilled to be helping to make a difference for a cause so near and dear to hearts across West Texas.

Heading into her third season as Head Coach of the Texas Tech University Lady Raiders, Krista is a former Lady Raider that played on the 1993 National Championship team, a 3-time southwest conference selection with her #21 jersey retired. Krista has been challenged to get the Lady Raider program back to prominence, and she is thrilled to be participating in the Waltzing for Wishes gala!

Ryan Chandler

Sohail is the Practice Leader for Gallagher Benefit Services, a leading full-service brokerage helping employers implement and manage employee benefits solutions. When he is not talking deductibles and coinsurance, he pretends to be a good golfer, an avid skier and most recently, a dancer.

Vanessa is a vice president and trust officer at Lubbock National Bank, where she has been employed since 2001. She has attended Waltzing for Wishes since 2012, and she has had the opportunity to see many wonderful wishes granted for children with critical illnesses. She is honored to join Waltzing for Wishes as a dancer this year to help raise funds for Make-A-Wish!

Sohail Hooda Vanessa Pope

Despite being born with two left feet, Sohail is extremely excited and grateful to do his small part for such a wonderful cause and organization. Sohail moved to Lubbock on a full-time basis four years ago. As the saying goes, he’s not from Lubbock, but he found a way to get here as fast as he could!

Sohail moved to Lubbock to be near his 12-year-old son Charlie. He’s extremely grateful for the wonderful world that has opened up for him in Lubbock, and he is embracing God’s gift of being Charlie’s dad.
