ACTAMEDIA

RENEWAL, REPRESENTATION, HISTORY

ARC 407 | Spring 2023 | Prof. Daniele Profeta

Project in collaboration with Ella Thurber + Jazlynn Wohlers

“Actamedia” serves to support Mediterranean journalism and simultaneously occupy a culturally layered site, focusing on the intervention of the fascist Cine Impero. The intervention reorients, distorts, andembarrassestheoriginalform, selectively revealing its decay. The surrounding occupied formwork reinforces the notion of incompleteness, constant construction, and imperfection.

The project in plan layers intervention from city to water. An urban filter and public exhibition site, followed by media center, scaffolding, residences, archaeological park, and arrival dock spans across the length of the site. Intentional intersections exist between the scaffolding and the existing building. These mediating, temporary spaces are then lived in and show signs of long term use.

INTERLODGE

INTEGRATION, DETAILING, PROCESS

Comprehensive Design Studio ARC 409 | Spring 2024 | Prof. Joel Kerner Project in collaboration with Annabelle Sablan

“Interlodge” is a hotel and community resource in downtown Cleveland. The project is split into two main components: the street facing structure for public amenities and the private sleeping spaces nested further into the site. The public space takes on an idiosyncratic composition, overlapping geometries tocreateinterstitialspacesoffoldingandtransition.Bycontrast, the sleeping rooms are modular and follow a normative, rigid geometry.

This project was an exploration of architecture at its most integrated scale, using diagramming and detailing to interrogate the realism of our proposal. Programmatic, geometric, environmental, mechanical, structural, and contextualelements are communicated through a series of diagrams. The CLT structural system as well as the envelope and environmental systems are explored further and represented in technical drawings.

[Re]Work

RENOVATION, CIRCULATION, MATERIAL

ARC 408 | Fall 2023 | Prof. Amber Bartosh, Vanessa Lastrucci Project in collaboration with Evelyn Broughton, Jordan Spranger

“[Re]Work” aims to replace the disused overground train station in Highgate, London with a space that increases community interaction between the growing number of those working from home. The overarching theme of our project is regeneration, both of the community and the site itself. The space features themes of material reuse and the benefits of biophilia in the workspace.

The project bridges the high street to the residential neighborhood through terracing of landscaping and form, and as the building’s program brings commuters, workers, and community members together. The high street facade is to scale with its context, though from residential Priory Gardens, the project makes much more of an appearance as it climbs the entire elevation of the site.

HIGHER EDUCATION DESIGN

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Summer 2024 | Mackey Mitchell Architects

Throughout my internship with Mackey Mitchell Architects, I worked on select higher education project teams through all aspects of project development, from schematic design to construction administration. One of my major roles was bringing a project from design development into a set of construction documents while simultaneously improving my Revit fluency. I also was involved with developing graphics that would communicate design evolution directly with the client.

CARTOGRAPHY SERIES

MAPPING, SPATIALIZATION, ABSTRACTION

Fall 2022- Fall 2023 | Various Courses and Professors

This series of drawings and physical models resulted from an analysis of cities and a desire to represent aspects of their urban strategy. “NYC I and II” investigate the underground landscape of New York City, aiming to represent all that occurs beneath grade level. “NYC II” takes the true map of the subway system and abstracts it into a physical model that takes on a new form as the routes are woven together.

“Rome I” conceptually models the relationship between secular and religious buildings in Rome and the distances from which they can be seen to visually compare this hierarchy. “London I” takes on the task of mapping London through personal experience and spatial association. Here, the map has been reconstructed as a conceptual and literal quilting of London made up of fragments of other cities. Each fragment is a place I havevisitedpriorthatcorrespondswithaLondonneighborhood that reminds me of it.

COLENTO

BRANDING, PROGRAMMING, GRAPHICS

ARC 500 | Fall 2024 | Prof. Michael Speaks

Project in collaboration with Isabella Klug, assisted by various students

The brand “Colento” was designed for a Design- Build pop- up coffee shop as a collaboration between Syracuse Architecture and Colombian coffee brand Colo Coffee. The project aimed to seamlessly integrate the aesthetics and identities of the two collaborators into a unique, recognizable brand that would eventually be built and run in Slocum Hall. The color palette, logo, and patterning were intentionally used as a tool to blend the geometric, bold branding of Syracuse Architecture and the natural forms and colors of Colo Coffee. Colento, as a coffee shop and social game bar, seeks to attract students, faculty, and visitors as it positions itself at the intersection of coffee culture, creative design, and playful community engagement.
