Learning To Love Without Attachment

After 26 years in a partnership, I’ve learned something surprising: love is not about perfection—it’s about spiritual practice.

“Love without attachment is the highest freedom.”

I do not have the perfect husband-wife relationship with my partner – at least not in the sense of romantic Hollywood movies. We often live apart due to his work. We have disagreements. Many times, I have not felt validated or acknowledged. So why are we still connected after 26 years?

Karma? Ego? True love?

At this stage of my spiritual evolution, it is simply practicing the hardest thing I have ever had to do: learning to love without attachment and experiencing the freedom that comes with it. This way of life is taught in Buddhism and reflected in what the Greeks called Committed Love (Pragma)—enduring partnership.

In the beginning, we experienced Playful Love (Ludus) – the joy of meeting someone attractive on many levels. We were smitten with each other’s looks, talents, skills, and intelligence.

Then we skipped the friendship stage and went straight into Romantic Love (Eros) – passion and attraction.

Then came the children. In our blended ohana, we practiced Family Love (Storge) – nurturing and protection.

Eventually, our relationship evolved into Friendship Love (Philia) – trust and companionship. But one day everything fell apart. Betrayal, lies, deceit, and abandonment slithered up to the surface.

I was forced to do my own shadow work. I saw the karma, its lessons, and how I needed to heal in healthier ways. My intuition and truthseeking guided me. The gaslighting which affected my self-worth no longer had power over me.

After months of grieving, I released the hurt ego and the victim within and began practic-

ing Self-Love (Philautia) –honoring my own being.

Long story short, Spirit brought us back together. I was able to forgive both him and myself for past mistakes. I prac-

ticed ho’oponopono and made amends with those I had hurt.

Today I am living Committed Love (Pragma) – enduring partnership. I work on being less judgmental, critical, and attached to fears from the past. This is the kind of love many couples who stay together for decades come to embody.

Furthermore, in this later chapter of life, I find myself living in Universal Love (Agape) –compassion for all life. To me, this is the highest freedom. There may come a time when I outlive my partner – or he may outlive me. Or we decide to part ways. When that day comes, I know I will be okay. It is this expanded love for community and all sentient beings that keeps my world going round.

After many years of counseling couples as a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I have learned there is no perfect therapeutic model. Every couple’s relationship is uniquely designed to express and experience love. My role is to help partners be transparent, avoid harming each other, and to guide them to create a safe and secure relationship.

Living in love is not limited to romance; it is a spectrum – from the tenderness of a mother holding her child, to the laughter of friends, to the quiet compassion we extend to strangers.

When we expand our understanding of love, we realize it is less an emotion and more a way of being. In the end, love is not just something we feel; it is something we practice. Spiritually.

In our thoughts. In our choices. In our forgiveness. And in our willingness to see the divine in one another.

Living In Love

Neatly nestled in the bottom drawer of my filing cabinet are copies of Maui Vision Magazine spanning the last 24 years. While working on this edition, it suddenly dawned on me: this is Volume 25, Number 1. How in the world did that happen?

I’d say it’s because of the incredible support from our Maui community – advertisers, writers, staff members and readers alike. It has taken perseverance and hard work. Thank you! The magazine you’re holding is a rare commodity these days.

I remain a firm believer in Divine Intelligence. Despite the world’s many challenges, Consciousness is still where it’s at. Staying positive amid the chaos hasn’t been easy. At times, seeing the good can feel fleeting.

Ram Dass embraced “I am Loving Awareness” as his identity near the end of his life. How can we remain as loving and nonjudgmental as he was?

By staying aligned with truth, connected to Source, we will make it through – and perhaps even resist fuming at the gas pumps.

Self Love Is The Starting Point

In the 1990s, The Oprah Winfrey Show dominated daytime television, bringing human interest stories into our living rooms. As a high school girl at the time, my easy summer afternoons often revolved around Oprah’s topic du jour.

I remember one particular episode where a panelist described her journey toward self-love. Oprah skillfully asked questions about how that shift happened, when it began, and what changed as a result. The idea of self-love was new to me. My faith-based upbringing stressed the importance of loving my neighbor but never once broached the idea of loving oneself. The concept felt foreign, yet intriguing.

Like trying on a new hat, I experimented with self-love and quickly discovered how uncomfortable it felt. It was far easier to focus on my flaws and limitations. Loving others even seemed more productive. It took years for me to fully embrace a self-love practice.

Today, I believe self-love is often the answer to many of life’s biggest questions. How do I find peace in a complicated world? How do I repair strained relationships? How do I experience deeper joy? The journey begins within.

In my professional practice, many clients express the same discomfort I once felt. The starting point is simple awareness. Take notice of your internal dialogue and catch moments of unkind self-talk. Journaling this process can be eye-opening. We are often surprised by the harsh things we say to ourselves, words we would never direct toward another person.

If we can soften just one critical thought, we take a meaningful baby step forward. If we can generate a kinder thought, that’s another step. Over time, we become gentler with ourselves, and loving feelings emerge. From that place, kindness toward others naturally expands. Peace is simply a journey of self-love, built one baby step at a time\ Sandy Schneider, M.A., is an ICF-certified life and leadership coach and owns Mind and Body Harmonics in Kihei, which features the state’s first Harmonic Egg. Choosing the Path Forward

Living in love isn’t something that happens when life becomes easy. In my experience, it’s something we choose – especially when it isn’t. Living on Maui has shown me how deeply connected we all are. This island holds both beauty and heartbreak at the same time. The ocean still sparkles, even after the hardest storms.

In recent years, like many in our community, I’ve walked through moments that changed me. Loss has a way of bringing life into sharp focus. It gently, and sometimes not so gently, asks: What do we carry forward? What do we release? Who are we choosing to become.

And somewhere in that unraveling, I returned to a simple truth: We are all human. We all bleed red. No one’s life is above another. We are all sacred beings here for a short time—each of us simply trying to build a beautiful life with the people we love. (And honestly… life has a way of humbling all of us anyway—true story.)

When we truly remember this, something shifts. For me, that shift is love. Not the idealized version, but the lived practice of it. Love is in how we speak to our children, to ourselves, and to one another. Sometimes it’s as simple as pausing in a difficult moment and choosing a different response – one rooted in patience, kindness, or understanding.

Love is not passive. It’s a conscious choice. Compassion over judgment. Connection over separation. Humanity over ego. Because when we begin to see each other this way, love doesn’t just exist… It multiplies. So walk in love, my fellow earth travelers.

The Danger Of “Feeling” Love Cultivating A Peaceful Morning

What if you loved yourself unconditionally? This means your wounded parts: your hurts, fears, and pain. All of you! All illusions and separations, including self-criticism, fears, doubts, guilt, and shame, can melt away permanently through the power of unconditional love. But not the kind of love most people associate with the word. I am speaking about Unconditional Love. Unconditional Love is not a feeling or thought; it does not come or go. It is not born and it does not die. It’s unrelated to what you like, what you’re attracted to, or what you condone o want. It has nothing to do with preference, attraction, approval, or romance. No one falls in or out of it. It is infinite, timeless, and ever-present. It always has been, and always will be.

For many, discovering this love is entirely new and not always easy to grasp. Yet life changes profoundly when we learn to unconditionally love every part of ourselves. This practice heals old wounds, softens the effects of trauma, reveals deep wisdom and empties fear, doubt and confusion. It unifies us and ultimately brings us into oneness with all that is. It is the secret to lasting inner peace.

But be careful. Simply replacing hurt with the “feeling” of love resolves nothing. That only bypasses the wound, suppressing it and substituting a temporary emotional state, the feeling of love. Nothing truly has changed.

When truly unconditionally loving, unmetabolized hurt is allowed to be what it already is. As such, it often hurts more at first. The real practice of unconditionally loving ourselves brings to our wounds what they have always needed. In that potent presence, the old eventually dissolves, the heart clears, and our most unadulterated self is freed to emerge. When we stop trying to fix ourselves and begin loving ourselves, everything changes.

If we don’t want to get swept up in all the chaos and negative energy that seems to dominate right now, it’s essential to have some kind of plan in place to ensure we come from a place of peace within ourselves. It’s too easy to get sucked in by the drama that is unfolding around us, but a few simple tools can be most helpful in times of stress to help us find inner peace in a far from peaceful world.

Having some kind of morning ritual is a great place to start, not just grabbing a cup of coffee and rushing out the door, but maybe taking 10 or 15 minutes to sit outside in nature or in a peaceful spot where we can gather our thoughts and set our intentions for the day ahead.

The energy and frame of mind with which we start the day can make the difference between being completely stressed out or totally exhausted by the end of the day. Grabbing a few minutes of “me” time early in the morning can set the tone for the whole day.

When someone upsets or annoys us, taking some calming deep breaths and holding them for a few seconds before responding can help diffuse a negative reaction.

Conversations that revolve around the news or politics are to be avoided, and blocking any negative posts on social media helps, too. Music is also a great soother, playing our favorite tunes at top volume while we drive or make our way through stressful situations works. The more we invite the positive into our lives, the closer we come to inner peace!

Charting Planetary Influences A Sanctuary For Body, Mind, Heart and Spirit Wailea Healing Center

The planets usher us in unseen ways. Right now, the benefic Jupiter finishes up his year-long sojourn through Cancer. Marvel at the ways you can nourish yourself before he blasts into Leo, the sign of the heart, on June 29th.

You will need the practice run as Uranus, the ruler of the nervous system, will ingress into Gemini on April 26th and will do so at a fast gallop. Know how to calm your jets and when to practice your pause moment so as to manage a pace that won't slow down. Inspired action fuelled by spiritual vision will flow in early April. Hang onto your hat and posture yourself as we head into May, with Pluto turning Retrograde whilst all the personal planets pass Uranus, becoming infused with an electrical charge of radical ideas, downloaded and ready for change. Watch the frazzle factor.

By June, as the summer arrives, a warm, expansive, and benefic alignment of Jupiter and Venus favors love, abundance, and emotional connection. Enjoy it. Chiron will then move into Taurus for a 7-8-year healing cycle around values, security, and the body. Jupiter will ingress into Leo, shifting from Cancer's nurturing, protective energy into Leo's bold, creative fire, amplifying self-expression, generosity, and a desire to take center stage.

Mercury stations retrograde on the same day as Jupiter’s move into Cancer on June 29, running through July 23. A portal of reflection before expansion, the sweet spot is using the retrograde period to feel into what you genuinely want.

The Lunar Nodes mark the next significant shift, activating themes of individual creative power versus collective belonging over the next ~18 months. By July’s closure, Saturn stations retrograde, beginning a review phase of whatever structures and ambitions have been built thus far.

Wherefore Climate’s Silver Lining?

The search for a silver lining is an exercise in optimism bias. I hereby plead guilty. Regarding climate chaos, it’s also a desperate attempt to find hope amid encroaching environmental degradation. Nowhere is this challenge more dramatic than on Maui. After the 2023 Lahaina wildfires, the Valley Isle stands as a sobering microcosm of global climate change, and a place where the overwhelming pain of loss makes finding a“positive” not just difficult, but almost inappropriate. The true silver lining is certainly not in the disaster itself, but in the radical resilience and, above all, the forced, swift, necessary action that the event sparked.

The Reality of a Shifting Landscape. Maui’s climate injuries are no longer abstract; they’re rapidly becoming urgent realities. Punctuated by Kona-low storms of typhoon magnitude, the island has endured prolonged drought, elevated temperatures, rising sea levels that support king tides and swamp roads, and declining trade winds—creating a perfect storm for destructiveness. The 2023 Lahaina fire—driven by dry grasses, drought, and hurricane winds—transformed the legendary Hawaiian town (former home of kings) into ash. Beyond wildfires, coral reefs are experiencing mass bleaching due to warming oceans, affecting both tourism and food security. Even Haleakalā crater’s silversword plant is threatened by shifting rainfall, risking high-elevation ecosystems.

tragedy, one silver lining does emerge—one rooted in desperation-driven action rather than passive hope. The catastrophe sparked a renewed commitment to, and urgency for, environmental, economic, and cultural resilience.

A Just Transition: The fires have galvanized a community-driven recovery emphasizing collective empowerment. Local residents actively oppose “disaster profiteers,” prioritizing recovery that respects Native Hawaiian land rights and culture.

Accelerated Climate Policy: The devastation forced immediate action. A climate plan with over 170 measures was approved to blend indigenous knowledge with science for future challenges.

Rethinking Land Management: The crisis prompted an overdue strategy to manage invasive grasses, creating green belts to reduce fire risk instead of leaving land unmanaged.

Water Management: Focus on protecting watersheds, restoring wetlands for fire suppression, and aiding aquifer recharge.

The Challenge of a “Silver Lining.” The urge to find a silver lining, such as “the landscape is changing for the better” or “we will build back smarter,” often overlooks the immense ongoing trauma residents face. For many, there is no silver lining. The disaster exacerbated Maui’s preexisting, intense, and “grim” housing crisis, with insurance premiums skyrocketing by 500 percent in some areas post-wildfire. When lives, homes, and centuries-old cultural sites are destroyed, “finding the positive”can feel dismissive of the profound loss of life and heritage.

The Real Silver Lining: Forced Resilience and Action Within the

Finding a silver lining is tough in Lahaina’s case, considering that destruction was both preventable and catastrophic. The true silver lining lies not in the event, but in united efforts and a renewed commitment to fundamentally change how we manage land, water, and community. May this harsh lesson stimulate a more resilient Maui, where the silver lining may be the collective realization that, in a changing climate, inaction is no longer an option.Despite complacent deniers and incessant propaganda by powerful corporations, Nature will have her way with us … and hopefully wake more of us up in the process. Intelligent humans will understand the lesson and see that the future of humanity depends on enough of us waking up to reality and changing the way we tend to our beautiful Mother Earth.

My Adventures In Consciousness With Maharaji And Ram Dass

In 1966, I was at the University of Minnesota. A Harvard psychologist is lecturing tonight? I’d better go so I can learn more stuff and be smarter like a good grad student. But Dr. Alpert came out radiating love and humility as he spoke of LSD and mystical experience. A week later, I took LSD and was blessed with an experience of profound unity as well as love for my neurotic, fragmented self. I started seeing a therapist every Saturday, then going out to the woods to trip.

Two years later, Alpert came back from India as Ram Dass. I heard him in San Francisco. I wrote to him, and he invited me to spend the summer in New Hampshire. A year later, he gave me his blessing to meet his guru, Baba Neem Karoli (aka Maharaji), in India.

Unworthy as I felt, I often experienced pure love pouring into me in Maharaji's presence. He showed me that he knew what was in my mind, and loved me no less for it.

In the spring of 1972, Maharaji sent Ram Dass, me, and others back to the USA. All of us planned to return, and we were shocked when he left the body the next year. I roamed around, feeling like an orphan, taking in teachings wherever

I could, eventually earning a doctorate, and moved to Maui. Soon, Ram Dass came here, stroke and all, and continued to radiate love. He told me to continue practicing therapy, that that was my ‘seva’– my way of connecting with people.

Maharaji once told me, “I’m not your guru – Ram Dass is your guru.” So I was orphaned again (once Ram Dass passed). Now I have to go inside to experience that amazing love and grace – some days flowing, some blah.

Ram Dass talked about aging and dying consciously. So far, the aging part is (mostly) fascinating, and I am stoked at being initiated into the great adventure of dying one of these days. But hey, I’m in no great rush.

Loving Your Body: The Comfort Revolution

What if loving your body had very little to do with how it looks?

Body shame rarely begins with appearance alone. For many, it grows from deeper places — painful experiences, cultural conditioning, trauma, or early messages about who we were supposed to be. Over time, comparison becomes the lens through which we see ourselves. We learn to “know” our bodies by how they look: Am I the right size? Do I measure up?

But when we relate to our bodies primarily as something to be evaluated, something important gets lost. Self-consciousness quietly replaces sensation. Instead of feeling our bodies, we monitor them. And when we are busy monitoring how we look, it becomes harder to feel pleasure, desire, intimacy, or the simple comfort of being alive in our own skin. Attention moves outward instead of inward. We become observers of ourselves rather than participants in our own lives.

But here’s the truth: your body is not what it looks like. It is a living, breathing, intelligent ecosystem — 37 trillion cells regulating breath, balancing hormones, replacing billions of cells, and scanning your environment for safety. All of this happens every moment without your conscious effort.

And yet we’ve been trained to relate to this miracle as an image. We were taught to look at ourselves instead of live inside ourselves.

Here is the revolution: Your body is not an appearance. Your body is an experience.

The feelings moving through you are information from a brilliantly designed system guiding you toward your well-being. Your body communicates through sensation — temperature, tension, breath, hunger, fatigue, and desire.

When you stop asking, “How do I look?” and ask instead, “How do I feel?” everything changes. Instead of evaluating your body from the outside, you begin listening to it from the inside. And when you listen, something very practical becomes clear: comfort is information.

Comfort is not laziness. It is wisdom. If you are cold, tired, hungry, tense — your body is speaking. Loving your body means responding. Sometimes those signals have been ignored for so long — or overridden by stress or trauma — that it takes time to feel them again. Don’t give up.

Science now confirms the value of returning attention to the body. When you bring awareness to physical sensation, you activate brain regions responsible for emotional regulation — the insula and prefrontal cortex — helping quiet the stress response. Over time, this attention rewires the brain, making a new relationship with your body biologically possible.

From my guide Goodbye Body Shame, Hello Soulful Intimacy, here are simple practices to help reconnect with our bodies:

1. Practice sensory return. Pause and notice physical sensations — warmth, pressure, breath. Sensation is the doorway back to yourself.

2. Respond to small needs. Cold? Put on a sweater. Tired? Sit down. Thirsty? Drink water. These small acts rebuild trust between you and your body.

3. Soothe the nervous system. Slow breathing, gentle movement, or a hand on your heart signal safety. Safety is the gateway to sensual aliveness.

4. Honor desire. Hunger for rest, touch, movement, creativity — desire is intelligence guiding you toward vitality.

Body love is not a selfie with good lighting. It is choosing, again and again, to live from the inside out. To move in ways that nourish. To let your body be a sanctuary, not a battleground.

Your body is not too much. Not too imperfect. It is home. And when you fully inhabit it, you become magnetic.

The Ashes Know Her Name

Amid the 2023 flames on Maui, I set my latest thriller, The Ashes Know Her Name I wanted to write a story about what happens to our bodies and souls when fear and trauma push us past our breaking point.

Ana Summer’s childhood ended on her tenth birthday. Her mother was hauled away, never to be seen again, and her cousin was killed in a terrorist attack on her kibbutz in Israel. Trying to escape the past, her bereaved father moved her halfway across the globe to the isolated mountains of West Maui.

But some ghosts refuse to stay buried.

Decades later, Ana established a quiet, protected life for herself. She kept everyone at a distance, even Kimo, the man who stood by her through everything. Then the Lahaina wildfires start, and she, Kimo, and her dog, Koa, flee the flames alone in a terrifying struggle for their lives.

As the island is reeling, Ana’s world is ripped apart again. Half a world away, her sister is taken in another violent attack in southern Israel, and the news is unthinkable: she’s been sold to a human trafficking ring with ties to the Pacific. With no one else to turn to, Ana and Kimo team up with a handful of rogue operatives and hardened allies. Their desperate rescue mission took them from the depths of a billionaire’s fortified jungle estate in Hana to a final, harrowing escape through ancient lava tunnels.

The Ashes Know Her Name is a tale of survival, reconstructing ones identity after being shattered, and discovering a path to recovery in a world where fear and love are intertwined.

Dr. Denise Nussbaum is a local author who founded Aloha Ranch, a nonprofit dedicated to helping Lahaina fire survivors. She is a retired sociology professor who is now turning to writing fiction. Remembering Love

The first time I heard about the Akashic Records, my heart was drawn to them immediately, while my mind remained skeptical. Despite the disconnect, I knew I needed to explore them. The Akashic Records can be understood as a state of consciousness that holds the wisdom of the soul.

When I first entered this consciousness, I felt like I was coming home to my true self. Tears of recognition and familiarity came quickly. I felt a light tingling along the side of my head, and my heart ached subtly. It felt like a meditation as my higher self guided me and benevolent beings surrounded me with warmth and love.

Working with this state, I find that clients easily access soul memories: patterns, lessons, and experiences that shape present life. The process gently and peacefully releases old energies, ancestral wounds, and traumas that no longer serve them. This allows the mind, heart, and nervous system to settle more deeply into presence.

This consciousness illuminates possibilities for living with greater authenticity, clarity, and love. It meets us exactly where we are and responds to the questions we bring. It invites us to remember who we are, to reclaim wholeness, and to align our choices with our true essence. It brings forth wise guidance rather than prediction or control.

The Akashic realm evokes for me what living in love truly means: encountering ourselves through compassion rather than judgment, releasing what no longer belongs to this moment, and coming more fully into the present timeline.

I began as a skeptic willing to listen, and what I found was not fantasy, but a profound remembering. At our core, we are already whole and we are love. Accessing the Akashic Records is simply one heartfelt and powerful way to remember.

Clearing Your Love Blocks

Living in love is more than a feeling — it’s a state of being. It’s the ability to give and receive love freely, without fear, guarding, or subconscious resistance. Yet many of us carry unseen layers of conditioning that quietly block that flow. Old belief systems about worthiness, inherited trauma patterns, and unprocessed emotional pain can create energetic barriers that limit how fully we experience connection.

Energy work offers a gentle yet powerful pathway back to love. When we engage in energy healing, we begin to identify and release stored emotional imprints held in the body and nervous system. These imprints often stem from early life experiences or even from generational patterns passed down unconsciously through the lineage. Without realizing it, we may be operating from inherited stories about love — that it is unsafe, conditional, or something we must earn.

Through intentional energy healing sessions, these outdated patterns can soften and clear. As blocks dissolve, the heart naturally opens. Giving love becomes less about overextending and more about authentic expression. Receiving love becomes less threatening and more nourishing.

Supportive environments amplify this process. Attending a sound healing allows vibrational frequencies to recalibrate the body, soothe the mind, and gently surface what is ready to be released. I’ve found that spending time in the Maui Scalar Room provides a coherent field that supports balance, restoration, and nervous system regulation. These experiences help shed layers of stored trauma and reconnect us to our innate wholeness.

Living in love is not about bypassing pain — it’s about clearing what prevents love from flowing and stepping into a more open, loving state of being.

Compassion Creating A Love-Filled Life

Spiritual teacher Ram Dass often repeated, “I am Loving Awareness.” Yet, living in love requires moving beyond feeling and into aligned action. The Dalai Lama teaches that compassion allows us to replace judgment with understanding, empowering us to address the divisions we face.

Maui urgently needs this practice. The trauma of the Lahaina fires brought immense loss and amplified the tension between residents and visitors. Healing this divide requires more than time; it requires a conscious shift toward mutual care and reciprocity. It means finding practical ways to support our neighbors and alleviate the economic burdens weighing heavily on kamaʻāina and local businesses.

This philosophy of reciprocal care is the foundation of Mahalo Rewards. Born from profound personal loss in Lahaina rather than corporate strategy, the initiative seeks to reclaim the true meaning of “mahalo,” a shared breath of life and genuine gratitude.

To live in love is to build systems that nurture rather than extract. This model invites visitors to step into a role of conscious stewardship. By making a voluntary contribution, they directly subsidize a supportive network for the island. Instead of paying high advertising fees, local businesses receive free promotion, while kamaʻāina gain immediate access to discounts that help lower the daily cost of living.

When we invite visitors to actively participate in Maui’s recovery, we transform tourism from a source of friction into a tool for community well-being. This is love in action. By restoring gratitude as a reciprocal practice, we create a sustainable path forward, proving that shared compassion is the most effective way to heal our island and ourselves.

Sterling Ross is a Maui-born software engineer and the founder of Mahalo Rewards. The platform lowers the local cost of living by redirecting voluntary visitor contributions into a free utility for kamaʻāina and businesses. Visit www.mahalorewards.co for more information.

I was fortunate to have parents who maintained their love for 60 years and truly lived the American Dream. I witnessed an authentic, stable bond in my parents, which contributed to my high self-esteem.

This created a solid foundation for my sister and I. Their efforts to keep up a beautiful home and the opportunities they provided us—without going overboard—were invaluable in helping us build prosperous, fulfilling lives.

Joyfully, I provided similar benefits for my boys, though they didn’t have the positive example of a long-term marriage.

Divorcing their dad after 12 years, as adoring parents we both remain committed to them

Fortunately, I was “set up for success” with a college education. The thrill of European travel in my late teens inspired me to live in Europe for 8 years with my first husband. Counseling and therapy were suggested when challenges arose, starting as we worked to maintain our marriage, when the boys were little, and helped keep our communication loving and kind through the divorce.

Again, I chose more therapy in all three marriages whenever we needed help. Goddess bless our therapists!

So grateful I passed this concept of “creating a love-filled life” to my sons, who understood the privileges we had to support it.

After 16 years in Maui, I am surrounded by all my crystals, and feel loved and healthy. I’m ready to fall in love again, though with a loving and positive man who lives in love too!

Imagine the beautiful world it will be when all children on earth will have the opportunities and the examples of creating their own love filled lives!

Remaining Centered In Love

When we remain centered in love, we can see the world clearly. We know we should be loving. We are taught that love is saying kind words, giving gifts, or being thoughtful.

But the real meaning of love is pure, unconditional love in all our thoughts and actions. The first step in living in love is to set your intention to remain in love no matter how the day goes.

You might be thinking that it sounds impossible, but it is possible. With the help of hypnosis, you can begin to easily choose to rise above minor irritations and annoyances and view all people and situations as channels through which love can express.

Begin each day with the intention to respond in love. Begin with small acts of love. Being loving does not depend on outer experience. You can brighten any moment by sharing your love. Your love flows from your heart as peace, caring, happiness, and joy.

Love is the power that connects us with the whole and creation. Love is the vibration of the universe.

From the time we are born, our lives and beliefs have been shaped by the way we were raised, the things others have said, the movies we have seen, and the books we have read, just to mention a few. Because these thoughts and beliefs remain in our subconscious, it makes it difficult to make the changes that we want, even if they no longer serve us. Because hypnosis works with the subconscious mind, it is possible to release these negative beliefs and replace them with the positive, loving thoughts you want, making it possible to create a life lived from love.

Gathering To Honor The Divine

Life on Maui carries a unique spiritual rhythm. The island is home to many traditions, beliefs, and ways of honoring the sacred. While our paths may differ, there is a quiet understanding here that love, respect, and Aloha guide how we walk together.

For me, Mother Mary represents that spirit of living in love. Across centuries, Mary has been revered as the mother of Jesus, yet her influence transcends all traditions. She is often experienced as a universal symbol of compassion, humility, and the nurturing presence of the Divine Feminine.

On Maui, it is not unusual for people of many spiritual paths to gather side by side. My family reflects this blending of traditions. My husband follows a Hindu-Buddhist path, while I bring the Christian practice of the Rosary into our home. Rather than feel separate, these traditions meet in a shared reverence for the sacred.

In November 2020, during the uncertainty of the pandemic, I began hosting a small Rosary Meditation gathering outside under a covered area on our property. We spaced the chairs apart, wore masks, and sat quietly together in prayer. Even during that difficult time, people came together with a simple intention – to honor the Divine and hold one another in compassion.

Over time, the gathering grew into a gentle interspiritual circle where people from many backgrounds come together in reflection, prayer, and silence. Mother Mary’s example reminds us that living in love does not require grand gestures. It is found in simple acts - listening, welcoming, and caring for one another.

On Maui, where cultures and traditions meet like the ocean’s current, that message feels especially meaningful.Living in love means honoring the sacred presence within each other and remembering that in the end, love is the path we all share.

Rev. Rosa Paz-Jacobs leads Rosary Meditation gatherings twice monthly in Haiku, on Thursdays from 3-4 p.m. Email us for the schedule: Goldenrosetemple285@gmail.com.

Resolving Our Conflicts

Living in love includes overcoming fear. As humans, we experience a wide range of emotions, including love. One of those emotions is the fear of not having love, of being loved, and/or of being able to love.

That also means that when we know there is no love, it creates the feeling of no love, which is the opposite of love. It’s like we must know what darkness is in order to experience light.

Living in love requires space to experience oneness by seeking awareness of opposites. With enough awareness and experience, this allows human and spiritual love. For example, we all, at one time or another, have experienced disappointments in loving opportunities and/or relationships. We experience the sadness or displeasure caused by the nonfulfillment of one’s hopes or expectations.

When we allow space for resolutions to occur, we can turn the resulting disappointment, which is the key, into success. We may feel an urge from our conditioned, preprogrammed mind to force an outcome rather than pause and be in the moment, where God exists only in the Now. We must not act on impulse while having uncertainty.

In the moment, by being here now, we can open to seeing both sides and allow effortless resolutions at times, allowing whatever issues to run their course. This is a golden opportunity to resolve biological conflicts, not psychological conflicts, with awareness of unanticipated biological conflicts that may have happened long ago and have remained unsolved, only to surface again as a key to success, enhancing our ability to love and to be loved exponentially..

Living In Love Maui Style Finding Renewal In Nature

Living in love means choosing compassion, gratitude, and connection as daily practices. It is an outlook that nurtures emotional balance, strengthens relationships, and supports physical health. On the island of Maui, this way of living feels especially natural because the environment itself invites mindfulness, respect for nature, and a slower, more intentional pace of life.

Love-centered living begins with aloha –the spirit of kindness, patience, and mutual care. When people approach neighbors, family, and even strangers with warmth, stress softens, and a sense of belonging grows.

Social connection has long been linked to lower anxiety, healthier heart function, and longer life expectancy. Choosing empathy over judgment and presence over distraction builds protective web support.

Maui’s landscape reinforces this mindset. The steady rhythm of the ocean, the sunrise over volcanic slopes, and the trade winds moving through palm trees all encourage reflection.

Time spent outdoors walking along the shore, sharing food with friends, or simply watching the horizon can calm the nervous system and restore perspective. Nature makes it easier to practice gratitude, and gratitude deepens the capacity to live in love.

Living in love also includes self-respect. Rest, nourishing food, movement, and quiet moments are not indulgences but foundations of well-being. When individuals care for themselves kindly, they have more patience and generosity for others, creating a positive cycle that spreads through families and communities.

Ultimately, living in love, especially on Maui, is not just a poetic idea but a practical wellness philosophy: move slowly, care deeply, stay connected, and honor both people and the land. This approach sustains not only happiness, but true overall well-being.

What can be more loving and romantic than giving you and your partner a couples massage? Compassionate mutual care softens stress, calms the nervous system, and improves physical health and well-being. John is the proprietor of Lomi Hanamana. Contact 808.214.5054 to get in touch.

Spring season is here, and as we connect with the new transformation of the season, flowers blossom and the sounds of baby birds chirping soothe our souls.

With the advent of AI and technology, it's easy to forget our connection to nature. For example, while waiting inside a coffee shop and looking out the window, I saw this beautiful landscape displayed before me, providing moments of inspiration, but there was also a moment of sadness. Cars lined up outside in the drive-thru with every single driver on their phones, missing out on the beautiful landscape with clouds above taking shape of angels painted on the sky with smooth, like strokes. Have we become so disconnected that we are constantly controlled by technology? It seems that everyone is tense and feels overextended.

If you are a nature lover, you are aware of the energy, inspiration, and sense of rootedness that come from being in nature without the use of technology. Yes, there are benefits to technology, but we have become unbalanced when it overwhelms our neurological and endocrine systems. Spending time in nature will keep us in balance.

So, are you feeling out of gas or overwhelmed? Do you seem to find yourself indoors longer than before? Remember why visitors come to get the feeling of renewal from the islands that we are gifted to experience by living here.

You owe it to yourself to feel renewed. Maybe, before driving off, look up to the sky, feel the wind, follow its path as trees sway back and forth, inhale the salt air, and let the warmth of the sun press upon your skin, giving you extra Mana.

Keeping The Heart Open Living As Embodied Love

How do we maintain an open heart amidst worldwide chaos, economic instability, war, and injustice? These are not normal times, and as we witness the shift in our current global situation, we are also being called to go within. Cultivating inner balance and discipline is essential for navigating the waves of media headlines and unpleasant images that flood our consciousness daily.

Returning to our breath and a daily meditation practice can help us regulate strong emotions and clear negative thoughts from the mind. The passages below are taken from “Teachings on Love” by Thich Nhat Hanh and are a continuation of the Buddhist Metta Meditation:.

May I learn to look at myself with the eyes of understanding and love.

May I be able to recognize and touch the seeds of joy and happiness in myself.

May I learn to identify and see the sources of anger, craving, and delusion in myself.

I have found this practice to be very helpful recently. Reciting these exercises may help us see ourselves or others in a new light and bring more loving vibrations into our lives and those of others. Find a safe space to sit comfortably and try it for yourself.

Bring both hands to your heart and center yourself in love. Inhale deeply and exhale slowly, noticing your breath. Find an even, steady flow and continue breathing deeply for a few cycles. Recite the passages first for yourself, and as you are ready, practice them for others. With love, compassion, and intention as pillars, we can be the change we want to see in the world.

This season unfolds in the light of the Grand Saturn Neptune conjunction at 0° Aries in February. A rare evolutionary threshold was crossed. Love moved from dream into form. We are no longer seeking it somewhere beyond us; we are learning to live as it.

Saturn and Neptune now travel through early Aries, asking for embodied devotion. Love with structure, love that initiates, love that takes responsibility for bringing itself forth.

In April, Uranus enters Gemini for the next seven years, awakening our mental field. Thought patterns shift, communication upgrades, old storylines fracture, and a new language for unity begins to form. Consciousness is quickening.

Through this season, a supportive current reforms between Saturn and Neptune in Aries, Uranus in Gemini, and Pluto in Aquarius. Fire and air collaborating. Personal courage aligning with collective evolution. This subtle mini triangle supports the embodiment of our unique frequency of love. Courageously showing up as love ripples outward in ways we cannot yet perceive.

Chiron continues its long work in the high degrees of Aries, tending the original wound of separation from self, source, and love. Healing now is honest; it asks us to exist without self-abandonment.

By late July, the North Node moves into Aquarius and the South Node into Leo. The path turns toward higher-frequency love and shared humanity, releasing old heartbreaks and ego stories that have kept us fragmented. This is a season of living as love, claiming it as identity, and embodying it with responsibility.
