We believed the candidates running for the House and the Senate when they said they would get “Washington to provide more money for education, health care, agriculture and welfare.” We reelected our Congressmen when they bragged about how many bills they got put into law, and we never asked how much this all was going to cost us. We forgot that the wealth of our nation was created by hard-working American men and women under our free enterprise system, not by government bureaucrats or socialistic programs.

A financial disaster looms ahead. Our economy will be like a giant shipwreck with all of us passengers facing grave danger. What happens to people who run up their credit cards to the maximum, then take out a second mortgage to pay off more bills…. and then they keep on spending? They go bankrupt and lose almost everything they had. With our 16 TRILLION dollar national debt and our annual budget deficit over one trillion dollars each year we will reach a point when the government can’t pay its bills. That is happening now as cities across the country are going bankrupt, throwing thousands out of work and creating economic havoc with a negative ripple effect that is sure to follow.

Because so much of the money our government borrowed is in Treasury bonds held by countries like China, Saudi Arabia, Russia and other countries that are not our friends, you can be sure to see a concerted effort to diminish us as a superpower. But more importantly, every one of us will suffer as inflation skyrockets, robbing us of our purchasing power and forcing us to dramatically cut our standard of living.

And what can be done about it?

The answer is; we must cut spending now! The wrong thing for us to do is to increase taxes; that only encourages government to spend more. (Even though unemployment is over 8%, Federal government agencies still spent millions on lavish meetings at resorts.)

Obamacare’s “Senior Swindle” Ed Jackson says: This $8.5B scam is not the only scam in ObamaCare for seniors. As Governor Palin correctly pointed out there are the “death squads” that will ration (read deny) needed health care to seniors, and every 5 years those of us on Medicare have to attend “end of life counseling.” Then there is the $500B ObamaCare rips out of Medicare to help fund it.

Obama is no friend to senior citizens but he still wants to be able to count on our voting for him. For those who don’t understand why AARP sold out its own members, and all senior Americans, to support ObamaCare, just follow the money trail. AARP stands to make at least $1B from it by selling supplemental insurance that will not provide much in the way of health care benefits. AARP is also contributing to Obama’s reelection campaign.

I don’t know exactly when our newspapers and government started using the word “healthcare.” If we used the words “medical services,” as I think we should, we would think differently about both “health” and “medicine.” As a general rule you take “care” of your own health by eating right, getting proper rest and exercise, and avoiding a variety of bad habits. David Limbaugh Talks ‘The Great Destroyer’

I

recently had the opportunity to interview nationally syndicated columnist and bestselling author David Limbaugh about his new book, The Great Destroyer: Barack Obama’s War on the Republic.

What follows is a portion of that interview.

Bila: You write about Obama’s proclivity toward the blame game, be it blaming American businesses, the American people, or President

By Jedediah Bila Bush, a trend that is not only condescending and oftentimes out of touch with reality, but also reflects his complete inability to accept blame for his own policy failures. Do you think the blame-game jig is almost up now that his first term is near complete, or will the 2012 Obama campaign continue to reek of the same deflection?

Limbaugh: When he ran in 2008, Obama had the luxury of running on abstract utopian themes of hope and change.

The mainstream media, feckless Republicans, and many timid conservatives insisted on giving him a pass for his radical leftist record and his statements that telegraphed he would be the most radical president in our history. (He was, you will recall, named the most liberal senator in 2007 by the non-partisan National Journal). Now he has a record, and it is an abysmal record in every respect, and I mean every – unless a President can be favorably judged for being peerlessly egregious. I could meticulously substantiate this claim, but it would be much easier to refer your readers to my book, The Great Destroyer, and its predecessor, Crimes Against Liberty, both of which are heavy on footnote documentation. Because his record is so

bad, Obama has limited options, all of which he will utilize.

He will continue, preposterously, to blame George W. Bush.

He will continue to downplay the state of the economy.

He will continue to distort his record – telling us how many jobs he’s created or saved, and he will be lying, as I demonstrate in the book. He will continue to scapegoat the Republicans for obstructing his agenda, which despite the abject failure of every policy he’s tried, he somehow would have us believe would lead to miraculous economic results.

Most despicably, he will continue to try to divide us by crass appeals to identity politics in a desperate effort to pull this election out of his hat. I do believe that his scapegoating strategies have worn thin with the American people and that he will not succeed in November with these arguments – or any others, for that matter.

Bila: In Chapter Two, you state that “Obama’s empowerment depends on maintaining a certain level of support among specific demographic and ethnic groups, to whom he presents himself as a protector against racist, malevolent Republicans.” It has become clear to me that our President intends to try to condescendingly divide the country into special interest groups, using fear tactics to turn each group -- Hispanics, African-Americans, women, etc. -- against the GOP. Will he be successful? And how should Romney respond in order to best combat that agenda?

Limbaugh: It appears that Obama is becoming painfully aware that the economy will not substantially recover in time to benefit him in November, and so he has made a calculated decision to put all of his re-election eggs in the identity politics basket. Obama has been deliberately dividing and polarizing Americans since early in his term.

As I chronicle in the book, he was the most polarizing president in history at the end of his second year with 81% of Democrats supporting him and 13% of Republicans – a 68% gap. I might point out here in response to the anticipated liberal protest that George W. Bush was the most polarizing president -- let liberals make that claim, but remember this: George W. Bush was only polarizing because liberals went ape demonizing him, based on his policies. In no way did Bush himself appeal to Americans based on groups and categories (he made a strong, sustained effort to reach across the aisle, including with hyper-partisan Ted Kennedy, who rebuffed him). Understanding Medicare Enrollment Periods

edicare Enrollments Periods continue to be a mystery to most Medicare Beneficiaries. As the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is approaching rapidly, AMAC is committed to helping our members handle this enrollment period with ease, as it can be a trying time. Our recommendation: please call us mid to late September, as we should have most 2013 plans available to review with you. Enrollments will begin on October 15th. The sooner you have determined the 2013 plan that suits your needs, the sooner you can enroll, thus avoiding the congestion of calls in the last two weeks of this enrollment period. AMAC has worked diligently all year to build up our in-house Medicare department to handle the volume of calls expected this coming AEP. ***PLEASE NOTE that Supplements (aka Medigap Policies) ARE NOT subject to these enrollment periods, and have all year round enrollment periods. Please see below for further details.

For Medicare Advantage Plans and Prescription Drug Plans: Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): October 15th - December 7th

***The AEP “Annual Enrollment Period” (aka Open Enrollment) is approaching fast.*** This is the near 8 week span in which Medicare beneficiaries can enroll into new or different Advantage Plans (MA/MAPD) and their Prescription Drug Plans (PDP) for the upcoming year. You can enroll into an Advantage plan for the first time, or decide not to elect and Advantage Plan for 2013 and revert back to Original Medicare (A & B). In this year’s case you will be making changes that become effective 1/1/2013.

Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period: January 1st - February 14th

This is the period in which beneficiaries who are enrolled into an Advantage Plan can disenroll from the plan and revert back to Original Medicare (A & B). You may apply for a standalone Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) by February14th. You may also apply for a Supplement Policy (Medigap). Please keep in mind that beneficiaries applying for a Supplement may be subject to medical underwriting during this period and can be declined for coverage.

Initial Coverage Election Period/ Initial Enrollment Period (ICEP/IEP)

This enrollment period is for newly eligible Medicare Beneficiaries. When you first turn 65, or are first eligible for Part B if receiving Medicare due to Disability, you have a 7 month window to enroll into an Advantage Plan and/or a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. You have the three months BEFORE turning 65, the month you turn 65, and the three months AFTER turning 65 (or your Part B effective date if on Disability) to enroll into an Advantage Plan and/or a Prescription Drug Plan. If you do not enroll during this 7 month window, you will have to wait until the AEP to enroll into a plan. Please be aware that if you delay your Part B because you are continuing to work and have medical coverage through your job, when you do decide to start your Part B coverage, your ICEP/IEP is now shortened to the 3 months BEFORE your Part B effective date.

Special Enrollment Periods (SEP)

The Key word here is “SPECIAL.” If you have a special circumstance, such as moving out of a plan’s service area, or an involuntary loss of employer coverage because you are retiring at the age of 65 or older, than you may qualify for an SEP. There are many other circumstances which may make you eligible for an SEP. The length of the SEP can vary based on the circumstance. If you have enrolled into an Advantage Plan for the first time in your life during ICEP, or have dropped a Medigap policy to go into an Advantage Plan for the first time in your life, you have an SEP which lasts for the first 12 months of your enrollment in the Advantage Plan. This allows you to revert back to Original Medicare, enroll into a Medigap policy without being underwritten (though you may be subject to a higher premium due to age), and purchase a prescription drug plan.

Open Enrollment Period Institutionalized (OEPI):

This is a continuous enrollment period for people going in to or leaving an institution like a nursing home or skilled nursing facility. The OEPI ends two months after the beneficiary moves out of the institution.

I Firmly Cry “No!”

hat’s wrong with this picture? A great many New Yorkers and others are baffled by Mayor Bloomberg’s attempt to ban super-sized soda. Without a doubt, educated individuals are aware of the dangers of over-indulging in too much sugar and are careful to consume sweets in moderation. While the Mayor wants to “save the city” from the evil sugar villain, he should wait to tie the strings of his super-hero cape. Perhaps he did not get the memo that we do not need or want government control of every little aspect of our lives. Since my youth, I’ve firmly believed that government should flow from the people. When the government starts to take control of decisions without regard to the wishes of the public, there is something oddly disturbing happening. Should the government be allowed to regulate your lifestyle? I firmly cry “No!” Where do we draw the line? First, they will limit your soda intake. What’s next? How about a regulation restricting the size of your popcorn at the movies? How would you feel if government required you to stand on a scale before ordering?

God forbid your body mass index is awry. Will you be given a choice between carrot or celery sticks or be turned away? We all know that sleep is good for our bodies, but do you want the government to set a curfew for you just because sleep is “healthy”? Yes, these may sound extreme, but who is to say we are not headed in that direction? If you don’t want big government telling you that you can’t buy a super-sized soda, let your politicians know. Stand steady by telling big government we value personal freedom and are determined to keep it that

way. Should the government be allowed to dictate what you can and can’t do? I firmly cry “No!” Who’s the boss? Have you ever worked on a joint project with someone who held little regard for your ideas? I think we all have experienced this at one point in time. How did it make you feel? If you’re like me, these types of closed-minded people are not only frustrating to work with; they hurt themselves by not allowing for other people’s creativity. A closedminded government works much the same way. Government is increasingly becoming intolerant of the beliefs and opinions of its people. If you are tired of politicians who are stubbornly unreceptive to your ideas and beliefs, it’s time for new leadership. Seek out leaders who will listen to your voice.

Democracy is a far cry from a monarchy. It shocks me how some people seem to forget how much their opinions count. Our government gains legitimacy because of the consent of the people it governs. I Firmly Cry “No!” but it is far from the truth. Take a look at the poor state of our economy and our deficit accompanied by a definitive lack of leadership. The government sadly lacks a real plan. The “let’s try this or let’s try that” approach is not working. Trial and error, time and time again, has turned to error and error. A prime example is government bail-outs of banks. It simply added too much to the debt to be labeled a success in my book. The broader question to ask is should the government be in the business of owning industries? A dummy knows you can loan out money to anyone, but unless it can create jobs, repay taxpayers’ interest, grow the economy, employ future generations and help the company to succeed while increasing the tax base, it’s likely a poor tactical move and sets a dangerous precedent. While the government was trying to make itself look good by coming to the rescue of certain failed industries, no one cared what you thought. Should the government take your hard-earned money and go on unprofitable wasteful spending sprees? I firmly cry “No!” Is your faith in the current government in question? It is extremely difficult to have faith in a government, especially in Barack Obama, due to his constant change on stances. He wants to be re-elected so badly that he is willing to compromise on issues and chooses to do what he thinks will bring about the most votes. Not only is he undermining immigration laws, he is trying to break the ways laws are made. Normally, laws are made constitutionally whereby Congress drafts and votes and the President signs or vetoes. In this case, Obama unconstitutionally took advantage of his executive power by prescribing the law to favor illegal immigrants and his motive for doing so is solely to gain the Hispanic vote. Can you trust a President who waivers on issues and is willing to compromise beliefs in order to maximize voter support? I firmly cry “No!” Does Obama have a limit? Obamacare is a prime example Obama’s poor policies and reflects his wish to take away your freedom. The Supreme Court’s ruling on the constitutionality of the law doesn’t make it a good idea. Essentially, Obamacare is a tax which will deeply hurt many American families and businesses who are struggling to make ends meet or create jobs in his poor economy. The only freedom Obama will give you is a choice between getting health care and being fined.

Damage caused by lightning, such as fire, is covered by standard homeowners’ and business insurance policies. Some home and business insurance policies provide coverage for power surges that are the direct result of lightning striking a home or business. There is also coverage for lightning damage under the comprehensive portion of an auto insurance policy.

With the explosion in the number and value of consumer electronics in homes, such as flat screen TVs, home entertainment centers, multiple computers, gaming systems and other expensive devices, it is more important than ever to take precautions.

Preventing Losses Travelers and I.I.I. offer the following tips to protect homes and businesses against power surges and lightning strikes:

1. Install a lightning protection system. A lightning protection system supplies structural protection by providing a specified path on which lightning can travel. When a building is equipped with a lightning protection system, the destructive power of the lightning strike is directed safely into the ground, leaving the structure and its contents undamaged. The system includes a lightning rod or air terminals at the top of the house that can be disguised to look like a weather vane and wires to carry the current down to grounding rods at the bottom of the house. According to the Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), the lightning protection system needs to be securely anchored to the roof; otherwise it may whip around in a storm and damage the building. So make sure to have a licensed electrician install your lightning rod and protection system.

2. Use surge protectors. Today’s sensitive electronic equipment is particularly vulnerable to lightning. To assure the highest level of protection, UL-listed surge arrestors should be installed on electrical service panels. Installations typically include surge arrestors for the main electric panel, as well as incoming phone, cable, satellite and data lines. Surge arrestors protect against damaging electrical surges that can enter a structure via power transmission lines. By filtering and dissipating the harmful surges, arrestors prevent electrical fires and protect against electrical discharges that can dam-

age a building’s electrical system, computers, appliances and other systems. UL-listed transient voltage surge suppressors can also be installed to protect specific pieces of electronic equipment. Keep in mind that power strips offer little protection from electrical power surges.

3. Unplug expensive electronic equipment. As an added precaution, unplug expensive electronic equipment such as TVs, computers and the like if you know a storm is approaching.

Do’s and Don’ts for Lightning Safety 1. When Thunder Roars...GO INDOORS! Take shelter in a home, large building or substantial fully enclosed building, preferably protected with a lightning protection system. Hard topped vehicles are generally safe shelters as well.

2. Avoid areas where you will be the highest object. If you are caught in an open field with no nearby shelter, and your hair begins to stand on end (an indication that lightning is about to strike) drop down and crouch with hands on knees, rocking up on the balls of your feet. (The idea is to make as little contact with the ground as possible.) Never lie down flat or place your hands on the ground.

3. Certain locations are extremely hazardous during thunderstorms. Avoid lakes, beaches or open water, fishing from a boat or dock, riding on golf carts, farm equipment, motorcycles or bicycles.

Take shelter in tunnels, subways, even ditches or caves if necessary—but never under a tree!

4. If caught on high ground or in an open area, seek shelter in a low area and stay away from trees. A small grove of bushes or shrubs is preferable to lone trees.

5. To avoid side flashes (voltage from a nearby struck object) stay clear of fences or isolated trees. Keep away from telephone poles, power lines, pipelines or other electrically conductive objects.

6. Stay off the telephone! In your home, don’t stand near open windows, doorways or metal piping. Stay away from the TV, plumbing, sinks, tubs, radiators and stoves. Avoid contact with small electric appliances such as radios, toasters and hairdryers.

Yet we continue to hear proposals from Washington for one new federal program after another, with price tags regularly ranging in the hundreds of billions of dollars. Such numbers are mesmerizing in their enormity, but after the initial shock wears off, their continual repetition tends to have a numbing effect on the general populace. In a very real sense, this plays perfectly into the strategy of the big-government liberals who have dragged America towards a financial abyss in recent years. If the notion of a trillion dollars of increased debt every year causes little or no distress among voters, then the political elite can proceed to write checks of such astronomical amounts to their favorite special interest groups despite having no funds to back them up. Perhaps a day of reckoning will come, or maybe it won’t. But in either case, it will all be left to some future office

xcessive spending has created record levels of debt and deficits, and the worst is yet to come, threatening opportunity and prosperity for younger generations.

As the “fiscal cliff” gets closer and closer, the debate about fiscal responsibility and the need to balance the budget must take center stage as we approach the Presidential Election. The decisions that will be made over the next four years are critical to the country’s economic future, and the American public must know the facts as they head to the polls.

The National Debt has increased more during President Obama’s time in office than it did during 8 years of the George W. Bush presidency. The Debt rose $4.899 trillion during the two terms of the Bush presidency. It has now gone up over $4.939 trillion since President Obama took office.

If current policies are continued, federal debt will grow rapidly from its already high level, exceeding 90 percent of Gross Domestic Product in 2022, and the U.S. could face another devastating fiscal crisis according to a new report issued by the non partisan Congressional

become ever more dire. Yet, we are told, the situation can somehow be salvaged if rich and productive nations will merely fork over more of their hard earned money to regions that are less affluent. Rarely mentioned however is that given the prevailing mindset among so many Europeans, the will may no longer exist to take the necessary action to avoid total monetary ruin.

Despite the profound differences that distinguish the United States and the European Union, certain disturbing similarities need to be considered. For instance, the ongoing effort to wrest greater sums of money from productive European nations and redistribute it among their poorer neighbors bears a grim similarity to the “class warfare” that has been fomented by liberal politicians in this country.

Any Americans who have been sensible enough to accumulate a “nest egg” for retirement now qualify as the hated “rich,” and are increasingly considered as targets of collectivist redistribution.

Worse, if liberals get their way, such people will not only be robbed of their earnings, they will thereafter be consigned to dependence on a system that is doomed to failure. And if anyone doubts that their national leaders could so thoroughly betray the people, consider the manner in which the Social Security Trust fund was systematically pillaged, beginning with the Administration of Lyndon Johnson, as a means of financing the monstrous growth of government, despite the risk to future recipients posed by such action. For some time, liberals have longingly eyed Roth IRA and 401(k) retirement plans which they also regard as enormous stockpiles of revenue to be plundered and absorbed into public coffers. In like manner, the war on banks (as embodied in the venom of the “Occupy” movement) is not directed at bankers, but at every citizen who responsibly seeks to save in such institutions.

Also, in the last few years, we have been confronted with outrageous state level spending excesses and burgeoning deficits in places such as California and New York, where liberals overwhelmingly dominate the legislatures. Yet the political leaders in those states increasingly expect the Federal Government to bail them out, which ultimately means that the rest of America has to pay their bills so they can continue their spending binges unabated. And any mention of cutting budgets, or even restraining their exponential growth, is immediately met with threats of severe retribution against office holders advocating such measures.

The voting constituencies in this country who have been conditioned to expect a handout from the government and regard public “assistance” as their inherent right are no more likely to

turn back from the precipice of financial disaster than are the rioting hordes in the streets of Athens or Madrid.

At so precarious of a juncture, the worst possible course of action would be to drop a ticking, multi-trillion dollar time bomb on the national economy. Yet that is exactly the inescapable effect that Obamacare will have on America, if it is not completely repealed by the next Congress. Now that Chief Justice John Roberts and the other activist judges on the Supreme Court have invented a new judicial gauntlet by which any new extra constitutional government action can be validated on the basis of being a “tax,” Obama has been given the green light to inflict his destruction on the nation. So in the wake of such treachery, total repeal is now the only saving recourse available to America.

It has become inarguable that this nation’s financial system is in decline and approaching a breaking point. Nevertheless, the Obama Administration summarily rejects the only course to recuperation, which is to severely curtail the scope and cost of government, while aggressively removing the innumerable bureaucratic roadblocks that prevent the private sector businesses across the nation from reinvigorating production, and thus reviving the economy. Instead, these ideologically blinded liberals continue to stump for more government “stimulus” programs, though this approach has always yielded abysmal results, since it invariably robs the private sector economy of needed financial impetus, and thus can only guarantee a continuation of economic malaise.

Fortunately, Americans are becoming more aware of the realities they face. And, as indicated by several very encouraging recent events such as the stunning victory of Republican Governor Scott Walker in the June 5 Wisconsin recall election, if the message of responsibly managing government finances is vigorously and plainly presented to the voters, they will overwhelmingly opt for a proper course correction.

This fall, America will decide between two markedly different directions for its future. Democrat incumbent Barack Obama has unmistakably telegraphed his intentions to maintain the devastating program of increased bloat and expansion in every facet of government, which will only be aggravated by the additional crushing burden of socialized medicine, leading inexorably to the eventual collapse of the economy under the debt that will accumulate. In contrast, Republican challenger Mitt Romney has not only shown that as a businessman he has the ability to operate within his means, but he has succinctly explained his desire to return the ultimate economic power in this nation to the people, who historically are best suited to provide for themselves.

It may seem trite to invoke the overused declaration “Elections have consequences.” Yet in consideration of the financial cliff on which the nation currently teeters, it is accurate to assert that this November’s presidential election will be more consequential than any other in well over a century.

David Limbaugh Talks ‘The Great Destroyer’ continued from pg. 10

Americans along race, gender, sexual orientation, economic class or religious lines. Obama has deliberately tried to do so – and is continuing to do so, on steroids.

Just a few weeks ago, Obama lamented that he would like to implement changes to the immigration law through executive order and administratively because he couldn’t get Congress to pass his beloved Dream Act, or “comprehensive immigration reform.” Then he must have had an epiphany that Americans were no longer buying into his propaganda and excuses and that he was going to have to switch gears and change his course if he had any chance to be re-elected.

So he issued an executive order to stop deportation for socalled “Dreamers” – as many as 800,000 illegal immigrants, and immediately demonized Republicans as bigots for forcing him to go around Congress. It has apparently become clear to him that his best chance of winning is to rev up his core constituencies, and this was just one way he went about doing it.

Not too many months before, he had done the same thing by finally coming out for same-sex marriage, which he had pretended to be against since his campaign, despite having been on record at least as early as 1996 as having supported it. You will also recall the bogus war on women he attempted to fabricate not long before that. And we’re all painfully familiar with his constant invocation of the race card, and his pernicious use of class warfare – always appealing to our baser human instincts. He needs to drive voter turnout of his base, and so we should expect to see other such tactics between now and November.

I don’t believe his efforts will be successful and I think Mitt Romney, to counter them, should stay focused on Obama’s record – emphasizing not just the economy, but our imminent national financial crisis and Obama’s refusal to participate in its solution. But Romney also needs to articulate a positive, optimistic vision. He shouldn’t just tout his business credentials. He should also articulate an uplifting “rising tides lifts all boats” vision, and he should sharply contrast that vision with Obama’s record. He will win if he avoids the fecklessness that characterized John McCain’s 2008 campaign and if he will take the gloves off and be unafraid to tell the American people just how grave our current financial and economic situation is and how indescribably horrible Obama’s policies have been and will continue to be. He needs to be very clear that if Obama is re-elected, our kids and grandkids can kiss America goodbye – at least the America we have known.

Accuse me of hyperbole if you choose, but then the burden shifts to you to explain how Paul Ryan’s forecast is fallacious and how there is any reasonable likelihood that Obama, if re-elected, will do anything to avert that nightmare forecast. Quit being afraid to state the truth for fear that you’ll look like a wild-eyed extremist. The truth warrants such alarm – and passion in communicating it.

Limbaugh: I believe Obama can be beaten and beaten very handily – perhaps even by a landslide. I am optimistic that will happen and that when it does, with the help of grassroots conservatives as watchdogs, the Republican Party will implement reforms critical to saving the Republic, from entitlement reform to repealing Obamacare to tax reforms to major, major spending cuts in the short term and long term. They will also need to rebuild our military at the same time, which is another subject we haven’t touched on, but it makes national financial reform that much more imperative.

I do believe Obamacare 2, i.e., Justice Roberts’ deplorable majority-led decision affirming Obamacare through specious reasoning and sophistry, will redound to the Republicans’ benefit. Governor Romney happens to be poorly situated, as candidates go, to capitalize on this issue because of his own record with Romneycare. But as he has firmly pledged to repeal Obamacare, there is no reason he can’t successfully capitalize on the Court’s decision. It was an abominable decision in expanding Congress’s power under the Constitution’s taxing authority. The bill was not presented as a tax bill, but involved a penalty – not a tax – for failure to comply with the mandate. But Obama’s lawyers pushed the alternative “tax” argument, and if you live by the sword, you must die by it. Therefore, Obama must be saddled now with Obamacare as a tax. The Court has spoken and it is a tax and it constitutes an enormous tax increase, including on the middle class. Obama owns this bill now as a tax. Romney must make him own it. If you’ll recall, Obamacare was the single greatest catalyst leading to the Tea Party. This decision has resurrected the issue in a major way and will help galvanize the conservative grassroots to defeat Obama.

This election is Romney’s to lose. He must not blow it.

I respectfully urge Governor Romney to take a page out of Governor Walker’s playbook. As long as he does not allow himself to be intimidated by the propaganda and demonization, as long as he stands up to Obama’s bullying and takes the gloves off and lands hard blows – persistently, by showing just how dangerous Obama’s agenda is for America – and does it all with a spirit of restoring America’s greatness, he will win resoundingly in America, and we can begin the path to national restoration.

“The Golden Heart of Alaska” D.J. Wilson

airbanks, Alaska was founded in an interesting manner in August of 1901, by Captain E.T. Barnette who was traveling aboard a steamboat headed to nearby Tanacross to set a trading post. Instead of arriving at their destination, the steamboat ran aground while in shallow water. Barnette and his party found themselves left along the banks of the Chena River with their supplies. Prospectors working in the north hills noticed smoke from the steamer’s engines and came down.

They convinced Barnette of the potential of the area and he set up a trading post at the site. In 1902, an Italian immigrant by the name of Felix Pedro made the discovery of gold and the town became incorporated one year later by a 75% majority vote. As early as 1905 the city had a power plant, electricity and sewer services. There was also a school, police and fire headquarters, one hospital and one three-story building.

The settlement was named after a Republican Senator from Indiana, Charles W. Fairbanks, who later served as Vice President of the United States under Theodore Roosevelt during his second term. This was at the urging of E.T. Barnette, who

became the first Mayor of the City of Fairbanks. Fairbanks had its share of floods from ice jams and heavy rainfall. The original bridge across the Chena River stood on wooden pilings and was often washed out before a permanent bridge was built at Cushman Street in 1917. Fairbanks is described as “The Golden Heart of Alaska” due to the discovery of gold and the great nature of its people. Fairbanks, located 188 miles south of the Arctic Circle, began as a major producer of agricultural goods. Paul J. Rickert owned and operated a large farm until his death in 1938. Early roads were established and many were named after prominent local farmers. Despite food production efforts, agriculture in the area was not able to sustain the population, though it came close at times. The building of Ladd Army Airfield began in 1939, under the direction of the federal government during the New Deal and World War II, which helped to boost economic and population growth. The presence of the U.S. Military has remained steady in Fairbanks.

In the 1960s, Ladd Air Force Base became Fort Wainwright. In 1967, a record rainfall caused the Chena to surge over its banks

and flooded almost the entire town of Fairbanks overnight. This led to the construction of the Moose Creek Dam and an 8 mile long spillway, which diverts water away from the city. 1969 was the year in which the trans-Alaska oil pipeline began construction.

Today, Fairbanks is the largest interior city in the state of Alaska. With a diversified economy due to oil, gas, gold, coal mining and tourism, coupled with a military industry and educational opportunities from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks has developed into a vibrant place to live and explore. With a population of 31,000, and 97,000 when including the Fairbanks North Star Borough, the city has seen tremendous growth since its humble beginning. Serving as a hub to Alaska’s Arctic and Interior, the city welcomes tourists from all over the world. People of the globe enjoy traveling to this destination to observe Alaska’s beauty and unique topography, and to experience the magnificent Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis. This spectacular event occurs in colder months, with spring and fall the optimal viewing times. Summer is a lovely time to visit as the sun doesn’t set during the summer solstice, leaving long summer days.

While Alaska carries the reputation for cold and harsh winters, with some days dipping to 65 degrees below, it can get as hot as 90 degrees in the summer. The warm weather and sun provide opportunities for locals to garden and enjoy the temperate season. The shortest days of winter leave less than three hours of sunlight, fitting the description “Land of the Midnight Sun.” The Golden Heart of Alaska is also affectionately called “The Last Frontier” due to its charm and country characteristics. It is centrally located and is described as “tiny villages scattered throughout wilderness.” Fairbanks retains the “frontier” feel of days gone by and lies within the North Star Borough which is about the size of the State of New Jersey. It is also known as “The Land of a Thousand Smokes” due to past and active volcanic activity of 140 volcanos and from earthquakes. The diversity of the land is quite striking, from magnificent mountains, quaint waterfalls, flat and treeless tundra, winding rivers, stunning glaciers and even hot springs. The city of Fairbanks is situated 358 miles north of Anchorage via the Parks Highway. Its proximity to Mount McKinley and Denali Park, located roughly 120

miles south of Fairbanks, make the town a natural part of the unique Alaskan experience and a must-see location for travelers. It is a worthwhile place to visit, filled with great history from its gold rush past to its magnificent present.

Please enjoy the story below as experienced by a young lady who once called Alaska “home” shortly after her marriage in the 1950’s.

Dorothy’s Story - Memories of Alaska In the fall of 1951, a young bride named Dorothy Wilson joined her new husband Bob who was on duty in the armed forces. Departing Milwaukee, WI, she spent her 21st birthday on the train to Seattle where she then boarded a propeller Pan-Am airplane headed for adventure in the rugged yet beautiful state of Alaska.

Dorothy sat beside an elderly lady who warned her not to speak to the friendly and social young soldiers who were seated across from them, probably headed toward Korea. This was the first time Dorothy traveled alone.

Married in May of the same year, she feared her husband would be going overseas. At this time, the Korean War was happening and the only information Dorothy received was that Bob would soon be heading west. In August, Bob departed and Dorothy kept busy working at the West Allis State Bank. They wrote letters to each other practically every day and she was thrilled when a letter arrived from him which asked “Wouldn’t you like to come to Alaska?” Dorothy learned that Bob had traveled to the West Coast and arrived in Alaska via a rocky boat journey and was anxiously waiting for her to join him.

The young and strikingly beautiful Dorothy was eager to see her husband. Bob was stationed at Ladd Air Force Base as an office clerk for the 4th regiment, a well-respected unit in the Army.

He came in as a National Guard and due to his talents was assigned to the infantry and shortly after became a Corporal. Before Dorothy arrived, continued on pg. 44

Bob had some time off and he began to explore the town of Fairbanks. He observed a man constructing a brand new motel and wasted no time asking to reserve the first unit. This was to be their home in Alaska, but temporary housing was required until construction was completed. For their first six weeks in Alaska, Bob and Dorothy lived at Honest John’s Trailer Camp with shared showers and toilets in the middle of a courtyard, quite an experience for a newly married couple.

The military presence in Fairbanks made an impression on Dorothy. At that time, the town was quite small, rather like a rugged frontier town. Dorothy recalls there was one main street named Cushman with numbered cross streets. Few roads were paved and those which were not remained muddy. She remembers a log cabin on the main road that looked like it was falling down. Everyone knew it was the prospector’s place. There was one café open 24 hours named the Model Café. It was one block long with entrances on either side. Of course, they lived off base and received a living allowance which wasn’t much. It was not in their budget to eat out often, so Dorothy learned to cook.

Dorothy remembers writing her mother to ask questions about how to roast a chicken and was anxious to receive her Mother’s cooking advice, which usually took a couple of weeks. Her first attempt at making a pie crust practically left her in tears, while her husband did all he could to hold back laughter. Fortunately, her baking skills greatly improved over time. Bob and Dorothy occasionally “splurged” by going to the Nevada Kid Market where one could buy rather expensive imported fresh fruit.

Dorothy adapted to life in Alaska quickly, despite experiencing an occasional bout of homesickness. Within a short time of arriving in Fairbanks, she put her skills to work by accepting a job as a bookkeeper at the 1st National Bank of Fairbanks.

Later she became a teller which she greatly enjoyed as she got to meet much of the town’s folks, from dance girls to members of the squadron club. Dorothy walked to and from work as they did not own a car. The women wore pants instead of dresses most of the time due to the weather and muddy road conditions. When a second bank opened in town, The Bank of Fairbanks, an occurrence happened as a result of a permafrost disturbance. The building shifted slightly and on their grand opening day, the new bank couldn’t get the vault open. Dorothy remembers officers from the new bank coming into her bank to borrow money. The banks were about three blocks apart. Once a month, when the banks vaults were being filled for payroll, armored half-tracks parked outside the bank as a show of military security.

Bob and Dorothy also walked to and from church on Sundays.

The ski jacket and pants her parents gave her as a gift came in handy and she remembers walking across the bouncy wooden footbridge in order to get to church. You could always tell who walked to church versus who had driven, for the ones who walked had frost around their face and eyebrows from breath-

ing. Dorothy describes the church as wooden and picturesque with a single steeple. The unparalleled beauty of the scenery remains forever embedded in her memories as she recalls the charm of the church and splendor of the Alaskan countryside.

The couple enjoyed the camaraderie of the soldiers and their wives, and many became friends. Prior to pay-day, couples would get together to share what was left of their “bottles” and to celebrate. In their free time, they played cards with friends and read. Though they lost power often, they listened to one of two radio stations in town. Dorothy also enjoyed sewing and baking and she and Bob entertained soldiers from the base almost every Sunday for dinner. Their living room had only one couch, one chair, and their kitchen table was only big enough for two. This made them improvise by making extra chairs by piling up the couch cushions to accommodate guests.

From time to time, they stopped to visit a friend who was moonlighting as a bartender. One time, while Dorothy was still working, Bob stopped in to see their friend. A couple got into an argument and the man pulled out a gun and began firing it around the bar. People dove under tables and Bob ducked behind the bar. Later when things had calmed, he brought Dorothy to the bar to show her the bullet holes. On another occasion, Bob’s friend discovered his heavy army overcoat “went missing”. They were very expensive to replace and greatly needed for warmth. Luckily, his friend discovered it for sale in Honest John’s Thrift Shop, his numbers inside, and got it back “without incident”. Generally, things were not that wild in town.

Dorothy recalls an adventure she and Bob took with neighbors who owned a car. They drove pretty far and met an old miner who was prospecting for gold. Despite his knowledge and respect of nature, they later learned he was killed by a moose. Perhaps one of the most memorable trips they took was to breathtaking Mount McKinley. They enjoyed snowshoeing amongst the beautiful white snow-covered pines and recalls hearing people make bets on when the ice would go off the rivers. In fact, she recalls seeing a timer on a stick placed on the river to accurately tell. Another fond memory was watching dog sled races on the beautiful ice-covered Chena River.

After Bob completed his two years of service, he did not wish to re-enlist. Instead, he sent Dorothy back to Wisconsin slightly ahead of himself, as she was expecting their first child. Despite a change of planes due to engine trouble, Dorothy eventually arrived en route to their next home aboard a luxurious Northwest Stratocruiser. Bob drove and when they met up, they began a new life in Milwaukee and later settled in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to raise their family. Though time has passed, memories of special days spent in rural Fairbanks are carried in Dorothy’s heart.

Combine cooked potatoes with olive oil, garlic, thyme, salt and pepper. Toss well. Arrange in a single layer on a baking pan. Bake 25 – 30 minutes, turning

Preheat oven to 450º. Season pork with salt and pepper and allow to sit at room temperature while oven preheats. Roast pork in the center of the oven for 30 minutes. Cover the pork with prepared glaze. Reduce oven temperature to 350º and continue cooking for an additional 30 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 150º. Transfer to a cutting board and allow pork to rest for 15 minutes before carving. Serves 6.

Obamacare Hurts Seniors THE OBAMACARE LAW contains 20 new or higher taxes on American families and employers. Many of these tax increases fall on families making less than $250,000, a direct violation of candidate Obama’s promise not to raise “any form” of taxes on these families. Out of the 20 new or higher taxes in Obamacare, here are the five that most hurt seniors: 1) individual Mandate excise tax penalty. Many seniors face a coverage gap between retirement and Medicare eligibility.

Obamacare raises taxes on these younger seniors by punishing them if they don’t purchase “qualifying health insurance.”

Taking effect in 2014, the excise tax penalty for mandate noncompliance will in 2016 rise to 2.5% of adjusted gross income for a senior couple (or $1390 for those making less than $55,600).

Obamacare raises taxes on seniors just as they are entering retirement.

2) “Cadillac Plan” excise tax. Starting in 2018, Obamacare imposes a whopping 40% excise tax on high-cost health insurance plans. This is defined for seniors as a plan whose premiums exceed $29,450 for a family plan, or $11,500 for a single senior. Seniors often face higher costs in health insurance premiums due to chronic health conditions. This tax almost exclusively falls on seniors with the greatest health insurance needs.

3) Dividends tax hike. Starting in 2013, the top tax rate on dividends is scheduled to rise from 15% today to 39.6%. In addition, Obamacare imposes a dividend “surtax” of 3.8% on families making more than $250,000 per year. That would create a top dividend tax rate of 43.4%, nearly triple today’s rate. According to IRS data, 70% of households over age 55 receive dividend income. 71% of all dividends paid flow to these households. To raise taxes on dividends is to raise taxes on seniors.

4) Medical device excise tax. Obamacare imposes a new excise tax on medical device manufacturers in 2013. These companies will surely build the cost of this new tax into the price of what they sell. Who buys pacemakers, wheelchairs, and other costly medical devices? Seniors do.

5) Reduce allowable medical itemized deductions. Under current law, medical itemized deductions can be claimed on tax returns, but they must be reduced by 7.5% of adjusted gross income. Obamacare increases this “haircut” to 10% of AGI in 2013. This means that millions of Americans claiming itemized medical deductions will no longer be able to do so. IRS data tells us that 60% of all tax returns claiming this deduction belong to those over age 55.
