MANAGER’S MESSAGE

The holiday season is upon us! This is a magical time in the Town of Matthews. Our Public Works crews are busy putting up our holiday decorations and will soon be setting up the Winter Wonderlights display in Stumptown Park. New this year, the Park will be transformed into a magical winter wonderland. We have some exciting events lined up for you and your friends and family to enjoy this holiday season. Read more about our holiday events on pages 4-5.

Both the Transporation and Parks and Recreation bonds were approved by voters earlier this week. Learn more about this on page 3.

We wanted to make you aware of a change to the garbage and recycling schedule. There will be no service on Monday, December 26 in observance of Christmas Day. Read more about the change below.

Check out the calendar on page 6 for Matthews events and Board of Commissioners meetings so you can stay involved and engaged in all that Matthews has to offer. We hope you have a great month of November, and a happy and safe Thanksgiving.

Honor a Hometown Hero

Hometown Hero Banners are currently on display throughout downtown Matthews. The banner program, which began last year, was initiated to honor and reocgnize the service of Matthews veterans and active duty service members.

The banners are 17” wide x 36” tall made of a heavy vinyl, printed the same on both sides with the service person’s photo, full name and branch of the military. The banners are displayed in downtown Matthews along E. John Street and Trade Street during two periods each year (Memorial Day and Veterans Day).

Billy Boyette was honored with a banner for his service in the U.S. Army.

Applications are now being accepted. Click here for more information and to apply: https://www.matthewsnc.gov/pview. aspx?id=20985&catid=0
