Providing a high level of service and being responsive to the needs of our residents are top priorities here in the Town of Matthews. Every two years we conduct a citizen survey to gain insight into residents’ views on important issues and the level of satisfaction with Town services. If you received a survey in the mail, please complete it. Read more about this on page 5.
Our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resource Department has announced an exciting contest to boost our holiday spirits. See page 5 for details on the DECK THE HOUSE! holiday light competition. We are also hosting socially-distanced photos with Santa. Registration

Matthews’ Finest Fido Contest Winner Congratulations to Chloe Dancer! Chloe is this year’s winner of the Matthews’ Finest Fido contest. Chloe Dancer is a friend to everyone she meets. She loves to play hide and seek with her family; she always wins! Chloe has been a ”momma dog” to her neighbor puppy, teaching him all the tricks. She is very obedient and always happy to take her daily eye and ear drops. She is the protector of her humans, alerting them to strangers at the door. She is the best at comforting her humans when they are sad or need an extra snuggle. Thank you to everyone who entered their dog. All of the entries would have made wonderful representatives as the Finest Fido!
Matthews Police Department’s Annual No Shave November To help raise awareness about men’s health, Matthews Police Chief Clark Pennington has once again amended the department shaving policy for the month of November to allow facial hair in the form of longer mustaches, beards, and goatees. Each officer must donate $40 to the Zero Prostate Cancer Run/Walk – Charlotte to participate. Check out the Matthews Police Department’s Facebook page for weekly updates on the officers who participate and, at the end of November, vote for the officer with the best beard and goatee. The winners will receive a free shave at a local barber.

Businesses that meet eligibility requirements and grant criteria may apply for up to $10,000 in reimbursement funds via the grant application for qualifying expenses incurred March 1-October 31, 2020.
Eligible applications will be selected for review on a lottery basis until available funds are exhausted. A complete grant application with all required additional documents must be received by 12:00 pm on Monday, November 16 in order to be considered.

Deck the House! Holiday Light Competition
It’s time to DECK THE HOUSE! The Town of Matthews Parks & Recreation Department is hosting the inaugural holiday light competition, “DECK THE HOUSE!” from December 16th - 20th this year. Residents are encouraged to deck their homes with lights, lawn ornaments, wreaths, animated characters, and more to bring holiday cheer to families in town. All recognized holidays and their representations are welcome! Prizes will be awarded. Visit www.matthewsnc.gov/deckthehouse for more information and to register.
Matthews Conducting Survey of Citizens The Town of Matthews is conducting a citizen survey to gain insight into residents’ views on important issues as well as the level of satisfaction with Town services. The survey is being conducted through a partnership with the Public Policy Institute at Western Carolina University. Randomly selected residents of Matthews will receive a survey in the mail. Residents who receive the survey are asked to complete both the front and the back of each page. This survey should not take more than five minutes. A self-addressed envelope is included with the survey and no extra stamp is needed. The Town of Matthews conducts the citizen survey every other year. Results of the survey are used to help shape future Town policies.
