MATTHEWS TREESTORE GIVES AWAY HUNDREDS OF TREES TO RESIDENTS Approximately 150 residents of Matthews lined up last Saturday morning to receive free trees being given away by Matthews TreeStore, a partnership with TreesCharlotte and the Matthews Appearance and Tree Advisory Committee. A variety of species, from small flowering plants to large screening evergreens were given away for planting. Each Matthews household was eligible to receive up to two free trees, with a variety of species offered. Each tree ranged from 6-10 feet tall and came in a 7-gallon bucket. Before receiving their trees, residents were educated on proper planting and care techniques and then promised to take care of their new trees by signing a Stewardship Pledge. Thank you to everyone who volunteered or participated in this event!

Matthews Transportat

NEW BOARD MEMBERS SWORN IN ON DECEMBER 9

Upcoming Changes to U.S. 74 Major changes are coming to U.S. 74 in Matthews. NCDOT plans to add general purpose lanes, interchanges, bridges and an express lane in each direction. NCDOT recently held two public meetings to review the plans. Maps and additional information can be accessed here. Public comments are being accepted through February 29.

South Trade Street Project Continues Work continues on the NCDOT project to expand S. Trade Street to four lanes and lengthen the culvert. After experiencing lengthy delays, the expected completion date is in Spring 2020. Following the completion of the road project, a pedestrian tunnel and greenway connection will be built under S. Trade Street adjacent to the culvert. Read about this and other transportation projects in Matthews on our website: https://www.matthewsnc.gov/roadprojects
