Fall 2024 Program Guide: Town of Matthews Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resource Department

Page 1

I can almost guarantee that cooler Fall weather is on the way. This time of year is a perfect opportunity to get outside and visit the natural elements around you. Take advantage of your parks, trails and open space in Matthews. I recommend a bike ride along the trails in Purser-Hulsey Park. There may be a few new nuggets of adventure for you along the ride. A visit to the McDowell Arts Center or Crews Recreation Center are good options also. Inside this guide, you’ll see details about the amazing lineup of programs and events that our team has designed for you. Whatever you choose, make sure you have fun doing it. Happy Fall 2024!

Put the curves back! Linda's classes strengthen the muscles on all sides of the body to return the natural curves to the spine. Putting the spinal curves back allows dynamic freedom of movement and helps prevent pain that comes from losing these curves through daily life and aging. Tone your glutes and walk with a bounce in your step!

Gentle Deep Stretch Yoga

Chair Yoga

Have you wanted to try yoga but not sure you are up to it? This class is for you! We will practice an easy, smooth, flow of basic yoga poses combined with gentle stretches and breath work. This is a great way to start strengthening your muscles, particularly your core muscles. We will begin where you are and build gently, listening to your body all the way. A key benefit is that you will develop and improve balance in this series of classes. Leave each class with a smile on your face and feeling good! Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.

Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that can be done sitting on a chair or standing on the ground while using the chair for support. A typical one-hour chair yoga session involves breath work, seated stretches, standing and balancing poses, and a final relaxation practice, much like a traditional mat-based class.
