WELCOME Dear Theatregoer It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to our sensational spring season here at St Helens Theatre Royal!

We continually strive to provide first class entertainment to St Helens and this spring is no exception.

We have an electrifying selection of live music acts including local legends The Lancashire Hotpots and multi-platinum selling vocalists The Overtones. Some of finest tribute acts will also take the stage paying tribute to some of the world’s greatest artists including Cher, ACDC, George Michael, Queen and The Beatles.

In dance, Strictly Stars Ian Waite and Vincent Simone will tread the boards with their brand-new show Act Two. Fellow ex-Strictly alumnus Giovanni Pernice will also take the stage with THIS IS ME, while Vienna Festival Ballet present the magical Sleeping Beauty.

And course there will be plenty of family fun this season, with three phenomenal panto productions from Regal Entertainments – Dorothy and friends head to St Helens with the Wizard of Oz in February Half Term.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears hit the stage for Easter and I am delighted to announce our Christmas 2020 panto is Cinderella I hope you find lots to see in this seasons brochure and thank you for your continued support of St Helens Theatre Royal.

Helen Forrester’s By the Waters of Liverpool, adapted for stage from the million selling book, will take audiences on a nostalgic trip to 1930s Liverpool.

Wizard of Oz Join us in a magical adventure over the rainbow at St Helens Theatre Royal as we take you ‘off to see the wizard’ in this enchanting panto production of The Wizard of Oz. Click your heels together and join Dorothy and Toto as they journey along the Yellow Brick Road, searching for a way home. Along the way she makes friends with the Scarecrow who longs for a brain, the Tin Man who seeks a heart and a Cowardly Lion who wants some courage.

Meanwhile the Wicked Witch of the West is out to capture Dorothy …and her little dog too! Can the wonderful Wizard of Oz make our heroes’ dreams come true?

By The Waters Of Liverpool is a period drama set in the 1930s.

The story opens in 1935. Helen Forrester is sixteen years old and fighting a bitter battle with her parents for the right to educate herself and go out to work. During the Great Depression, Helen’s father lost his fortune when the stock market crashed and the family were suddenly thrown into poverty. The Forrester’s chose Liverpool as the place to start over.

They were in for a terrible shock.

Taken out of school to care for her younger brothers and sisters while her parents struggled to re-build their shattered lives, Helen is treated as an unpaid slave and desperate to escape.

By 1939, now aged twenty and with Britain on the brink of war, she has never been kissed by a man. But things start looking up for Helen when she meets a tall strong seaman and falls in love.
