Packing & Moving Tips Make arrangements for your move 30 to 45 days in advance. Ask your removal company what size truck they will be using for your move as this influences the removal fee. Some removal companies charge according to the volume and others according to the size truck your move requires. Note that larger trucks have limited access to the storage site and the storage units. ( see the Truck Sizes Accommodated documentation of Storage RSA) Enquire from your household insurer whether your goods will also be covered when in transit. Number your boxes when packing. Set up an inventory list in which you indicate the contents of each box and the corresponding number allocated. Also, write the room destination on each box i.e. Study, Kitchen, Main bedroom etc. Fill each box to the top. Half packed boxes may collapse when placed below heavy weight items. Use smaller boxes for heavy weight items such as books and cutlery. Larger boxes can be used for light weight household items such as linen and bedding. Seal all boxes with packaging tape, this will also help to strengthen the box. Use acid-free tissue paper for wrapping fragile china or porcelain. The ink on printed newspaper could damage the porcelain. Newspaper can be used for padding. Wrap dishes and glassware in unprinted newsprint or bubble wrap. Tissue paper, newsprint and bubble wrap can be purchased at Storage RSA's packaging shops. Use mattress covers or plastic tubing to protect mattresses and other furniture during the move and in your storage unit. Simplify your move by hanging your clothes in hanger boxes specifically designed for hanging clothes. These boxes are also sold at Storage RSA. Use brown SFK or blankets to protect table tops and cupboards. Fragile goods should be clearly marked as fragile Remember to notify all relevant parties of your move. Cover your items in additional moving pads, sheets or blankets to protect them in transit. Removal companies usually provide such protective material. Be sure to read the instructions on the lifts and trolleys at our sites. Please note that some lifts may not carry passengers.
