Nelly Ben Hayoun: To design extreme experiences.

Introduction to her work:

Nelly Ben Hayoun designs extreme experiences. Her discipline is inspired by Critical design and “Le Théâtre de la cruauté” of playwright Antonin Artaud. She works with an interdisciplinary team. She promotes her studio through different media of communication as “film, design, music, semiotics, politics, digital and scientific practices”. Her mission is “to bring chaos and disorder that best support critical thinking and power shifts into the scientific and design world1”. With her ambition and her motivation, she has managed to reach the highest scientific spheres. Consequently, she works in situ with NASA partners in order to give access to and share abstract phenomena.

For example, the Super K Sonic Boooum project in 2009 imagines “a glimpse into the world of particle physics [...] where electrons and neutrinos [...] collide to create giant explosions.2” This installation popularizes a scientific concept. She had the same approach with The Soyuz Chair in 2009. The goal was to feel sensations of an astronaut who lifted off in a rocket.
