THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD
Meaning, that is something, we all are searching for. Julie is no different. She is trying to navigate through life, but all she comes across are obsticles. Not knowing what is wrong or what is right, she still manages to follow her desire. She goes through different relationships, jobs, and experiences, trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life. Will she ever find her meaning ?
“Everything is on your terms. You have time off, so we are on holidays.”
“I just want to do more first.”
“But I don’t want everything to happen on your terms, based on what you want.”
“Right, cheating is...”
“But where do you draw the line?”
Her piece “Oral Sex in the Age of #MeToo” was published on jubel.no. It was widely shared and set off a lively Facebook debate.
At 30, Julie’s grandmother had three children. She played Rebecca West in Rosmerholm at the National Theatre.
At 30, Julie’s great-grandmother, Astrid, was a widow, alone with four children.
Julie’s great-great-grandmother had seven children. Two died of tuberculosis.
Julie’s great-great-greatgrandmother, Herta, was a merchant’s wife with six children in a loveless marriage.
Julie’s great-great-greatgreat-grandmother never turned 30. The life expectancy for women at the time was 35 years.
“Aksel, we need to talk.”
“It’s not anything you’ve done.”
“We want different things.”
“I want it to be over.”
“Yes, I do love you. And I don’t love you.”
“I feel like spectator in my own life. Like I’m playing a supporting role in my own life.
“Who knows? Maybe we’ll get back together someday. I mean it.”
“Still following Sunniva on Instagram?”
“I don’t mind you following her. It’s not a problem, but...”
“I don’t want to be the sensible choice while she’s the sexy one.”
“Let’s say I draw this interview as a cartoon. The comic version of me might call you a whore. It doesn’t mean I think that. It could be a parody of a certain type of insecure male...”
- Aksel“Cancer?”
“How is he coping?”
“Thanks for letting me know.”
“Can you tell me, what you used to tell me? I hated hearing it at the time, but you can tell me...”
“I’ll be a good mother?”
“Were you really sure? Sure you wanted kids?”
“Your voice has stayed in my head. We still have great conversations.”
Julie is a complex character with feelings, emotions, but also flaws. All these things make her extremely relatable, because even though she is a fictional character, she struggles with the same problem as we " real " humans do - finding our place or a meaning in a world. Watching Julie, trying to find a purpose in her life took a great pressure off of me and my friends. I know that me and my friends are younger than Julie is, but we were still able to relate to her on a great level because of her willingness to follow her desires and dreams in life.
