Fixtures / schedule / venues

Can you clarify the seeding implications on the tournament structure? -

Seeding across all three tournaments is not based purely on World Rankings o England are the #1 seeded team as hosts in each tournament o Current holders are #2 seeded team in each tournament (Australia for men’s and women’s and France for wheelchair) o The remaining seeds are then formed by IRL world rankings at the time of fixture release then complete the remaining seeds in each tournament o Men's - New Zealand (seeded #3) and Tonga (seeded #4) o Women's - New Zealand (seeded #3) and PNG (seeded #4) o Wheelchair - Wales (seeded #3) and Australia (seeded #4)

When will the BBC announce their chosen fixtures and any possible date/time changes to fixtures? I.e. when will all kick-off times be 100% confirmed? 25 of 32

-

Likely in early 2021. Discussions are ongoing.

RLWC2021 rebrand and new tournament identity

Why have you changed the brand for the Rugby League World Cup? -

We wanted something that reflects the men’s, women’s and wheelchair tournaments collectively. The Power of Together, allows us to focus even more on human interest stories, emotional connections, and a celebration of togetherness.

-

Our refreshed World Cup identity showcases our values of inclusivity and boldness by incorporating all three tournaments into one logo. The new colours and the way we want to celebrate the hosts and nations in a different way, effectively represents the uniqueness of RLWC2021.

What does the new branding for RLWC2021 represent? -

The refreshed RLWC2021 brand symbol – the Cup - is a natural progression from the previous tournament identity. The new Cup is built from red, orange and yellow ribbons representing the men’s, women’s and wheelchair tournaments respectively. The ribbons embody each of the three individual tournaments coming together into one. The ribbons are symbols of connection and triumph.

-

The inclusion of stars is a metaphor for the three world class tournaments. They orbit the globe at the pinnacle of the Cup, symbolising the unified passion of all nations, teams and communities striving towards the World Cup - 'reaching for the stars'. 26 of 32

-

New colours have also been introduced with Power Purple now the lead colour representing the tournaments values of inclusivity and boldness. This new brand will give the tournament vibrancy and help showcase the tournament over the next 500 days, while organisers work to deliver the biggest and best rugby league world cup ever.

Team Bases How were these decided? -

RLWC2021 made the decisions on team bases based on hosts bids and best fit for location / requirements of each team

There are some hosts missing as team bases – Coventry and Kirklees – why are these not included? -

It was impossible to choose everyone, and some hosts’ bids didn’t include a team base element so it's not applicable

-

Lots of considerations – availability of a suitable standard of accommodation and training facility, the proximity to match venues, along with the requirements of the teams were key factors– unfortunately we had to have hosts that missed out.

Why are England men’s team staying in Manchester when there isn’t a group fixture in Manchester? -

Manchester is a central point for the proposed England fixtures and provides England with suitable facilities 27 of 32

Will teams always stay at their base camps? -

There will be occasions where teams need to stay in an alternative hotel closer to a match venue.

-

Some teams may also decide to release players from camps for a period but that will be a matter for each individual team.

Are you confirming specific hotels and training venues? -

Not at this stage. There will be further work undertaken to allocate specific hotels and training venues to each team.

Legacy

InspirationALL – legacy programme: What does the Mental Fitness Charter mean for the sport and the tournament? -

The Mental Fitness Charter is a first for a major international sporting event and puts RLWC2021 and the sport at the forefront of mental fitness awareness. We want to use the platform we have within sport to help highlight the importance of taking care of both your mental and physical health, and make a real impact with people both inside and outside of Rugby League.

As the first major international sporting event to launch a mental fitness charter, we’re hoping to set a precedent for how sporting 28 of 32

What's the difference between large and small grants? -

Large scale grants are for changing rooms, club houses and pitch improvement works over ÂŁ15k

-

Small Scale grants up to ÂŁ15k are the provision of capital items, kit and equipment or to refurbish/improve existing facilities.

Can clubs still apply for grants? -

Small grants are available for applications via https://www.rlwc2021.com/facilities

-

Large grant applications are currently paused whilst we support the RFL and their clubs at these unprecedented times.

How does that impact clubs that have applied in the last few months? -

Clubs who are in stages 1 and 2 of the applications, have been contacted about the situation and told to pause their bid for the moment. Although many are disappointed, they understand the current situation.
