Connecting to SA Water Connections
At SA Water we often encounter incorrectly connected internal pipework on properties, which can cause significant delays for you, the customer and SA Water. Common examples of incorrectly connected internal pipework include: • Internal pipework directly connected to the inlet tail without a water meter or outlet riser arm. • Internal pipework connected to the outlet of the water meter without an outlet riser arm. • Internal pipework and end of outlet arm exposed above ground. • Pressure reduction and isolation valves installed on the outlet riser arm instead of on the internal pipework. • Branches taken from the outlet riser arm to supply irrigation systems and extensions to internal pipe work.
These common problems can result in delays to or the obstruction of repair or replacement to parts of the meter assembly. Where the internal pipework is not connected correctly or an incorrect modification obstructs repair or replacement of the meter assembly SA Water may instruct the homeowner to engage a plumber, or request the plumber who performed the incorrect installation, to make the required rectifications to the internal pipework.

To save you and the customer time and money when performing this task, the following outlines the correct process of connecting to SA Water. An SA Water 20mm residential drinking water and non-drinking water connection consists of:
SAPIPERELINING


• an Inlet riser
• 1/4 turn or T handle stopcock • inlet and outlet tails
• water meter
• outlet riser arm.
The meter assembly up to and including the threaded end of the outlet remains the property of SA Water, which is responsible for its installation, maintenance and repair. To correctly connect to an SA Water connection, internal pipe work for the property must be connected to the threaded end of the outlet riser arm.
As a plumber you may identify an incorrect connection to the meter and wish to fix it as you work to save the customer time and expense in the future.
