PROJECT SUPERINTENDENTS

THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL COMPANIES TO SEND PROJECT MANAGERS AND SUPERINTENDENTS TO LEARN IN A TEAMWORK SETTING!

Success of a construction team, project or company often boils down to a few key components that, if carefully combined, can lead to great accomplishments where everybody wins. Employees, companies and customers can all win with the proper combination of teamwork, leadership, communication, accountability, personal responsibility, budgeting and quality control on every project, every day. A large portion of the responsibility for these areas fall on the project’s leadership team of project managers and project superintendents.

This interactive leadership program will challenge members of the project team to understand project budgets, elevate individual and team performance, understand customer dynamics, and even have a little bit of fun in the process. This is an outstanding opportunity to put members of your project team in a teamwork atmosphere of learning and professional growth.

Achieving Maximum Job Profit

Presenter: Ethan Cowles, FMI Corporation - Denver, CO

This session will address field management opportunities and obstacles, explore the impact productivity changes have on a company’s financial performance, and habits of high performing and effective field managers. In addition, this session will feature a workshop where attendees will compare their management skills to those of high performing leaders. Attendees will develop their personal action plan to improve job profits and utilize the session ideas to create a practical implementation plan. Each participant will identify specific improvements they can make within their own areas of responsibility. A discussion of the best approaches and techniques will help reinforce the summary of the key elements of the program. Each individual will come away with a focus on upgrading the skills that will provide the most beneficial impact.

Building and Implementing a Plan to Improve Productivity and Operational Excellence

Presenter: Ethan Cowles, FMI Corporation - Denver, CO

Most companies have hundreds or even thousands of years of collective experience within their company. The “best way” to do something has, likely, already been figured out. So why is it so hard to do the things we know make a difference every time, every project? This session will explore what it takes to successfully implement change, internal best practices and process improvement. Topics will include prioritizing high impact initiatives, the role of leadership to drive operational excellence, obstacles to effective implementation, and proven practices for achieving long term success.

The People Side of Project Success

Presenter: Nic Bittle, Work Force Pro - Corn, OK

This course is designed specifically for project managers and superintendents who are ready to improve the way they lead, communicate, and collaborate on the job. We won’t be diving into scheduling software or contract language - those are company-specific. Instead, this course tackles the real-world people dynamics that make or break job performance. Through interactive discussion and practical tools, participants will learn how to communicate at a higher level with both the field and office; build trust across departments and roles; resolve conflict before it derails progress; lead difficult conversations with clarity and confidence; create alignment between the project vision and team behavior; and show up daily as a leader others want to follow.

Construction Contracts 101: Understanding the Agreements That Drive the Job

Presenter: Alex Johnson, BrownWinick Law Firm - Des Moines, IA

In this session you will gain a practical understanding of the contracts that govern commercial construction projects. We will discuss the elements that make up a contract, from the simple to the complex. This class will demystify the language, structure and legal impact of common construction agreements. Participants will gain the tools to read, interpret and apply contract terms to everyday project decisions, minimizing risk and strengthening collaboration between all parties. Finally, we’ll discuss real-world resolution of contractual issues.

The Power of Effective Delegation: If You Want It Done Right You Don’t Have To Do It Yourself

Presenter: Amy Fetters, McGough - Des Moines, IA

Managers and Superintendents are working at full capacity with far more things to do than time to do them. Learning delegation skill sets and practicing them regularly will help you to become excellent at delegating and greatly multiply your team’s ability to make significant contributions to their projects, and organizations. Your responsibility as a leader is to raise your people’s capacity to achieve and help them develop their skills through delegation of tasks. Your ability and potential as a leader is virtually unlimited, provided you can unleash the talents and abilities of others you work with by delegating and supervising effectively.
