The ANSYS Hall project scored high on all the evaluation criteria. The construction site was very restrictive and required a just-in-time delivery method. Further complicating the site, ANSYS Hall provides access at seven unique levels to four adjacent buildings. At one point during construction, there were five spaces under different stages of design. Over 95% of the construction waste was diverted and recycled. ANSYS Hall was certified LEED Gold.

The St. Margaret Family Health Center Project was a well-managed project. Several significant issues were identified during construction and were solved with creative and innovative solutions. The Massaro team was recognized by UPMC for delivering a successful project that included a high quality of workmanship. The project included a parklette as an oasis for the staff and the public, and also provides management of storm water.

PJ Dick used creativity and ingenuity to overcome innumerable challenges related to renovating this 100-year-old warehouse from top to bottom. The LEED Gold project exemplifies the ageless potential and versatility of Pittsburgh’s historic industrial buildings. The design and construction of the renovation preserve the brick and terracotta facade while providing energetic interiors that support Aurora’s self-driving vehicle technology.

The Grove City College Henry Buhl Library

Renovation & Addition Project required significant updates to transition this 1954, 29,000 square-foot space into a dynamic learning hub. Landau Building Company delivered by providing both pre-construction and construction services in a complex phasing program which kept the library operational while tying in features of the old building with the new and delivering an exceptional project in an accelerated schedule with intricate features, craftsmanship and attention to detail. Landau’s ability to successfully troubleshoot issues, communicate and execute was reinforced by the owner’s level of satisfaction.

The University of Pittsburgh Allegheny Observatory project contained numerous challenges that were successfully met by the project team led by Massaro Construction. Work on this historic landmark included renovation of the rotating 1902 Thaw Dome that required field measuring, bending and soldering of each individual piece of zinc coated copper on site, replacement of the terracotta cornices with cast stone, replacement of deteriorated tongue and groove wood, modification of structural supports and replacement of the dome door — all with restricted access. The professionalism and attention to resolving day-to-day issues by the project team were crucial elements to the successful completion of the project.

Tuscarora Tunnel Renovation

McKamish, Inc. brought innovative design and fabrication solutions to complete NFPA mechanical upgrades to Pennsylvania Turnpike tunnels built in the 1940's. The project demanded precise craftsmanship and field engineering. In collaboration with the Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Contractors National Association, they established new fire safety standards for tunnel ventilation across the state and country.

Perfido Weiskopf Wagstaff + Goettel

Carnegie Mellon University's 5th & Clyde

Residence Hall and Hub had many intricate, geometric design elements throughout the site. Rycon’s Casework and Millwork Division laid out complex pieces like a giant jigsaw puzzle to ensure a perfect fit in the field. The acoustic panels were cut and installed in a complicated hexagonal pattern, and the various-sized ceiling boards emulated a curve creating a 3-D effect. The seating areas and the large circular booth are both deserving of the Excellence in Craftsmanship Award themselves.
