A LOOK BACK AT A YEAR OF PURPOSE, PROGRESS, AND PARTNERSHIP

A

s we close out 2025, I’m reminded how much this membership can accomplish when we execute collaboratively. The Master Builders’ Association’s motto is Leading the Industry, Building the Region. Each one of those phrases cannot stand on its own — they are inseparable.

Just as our membership is inseparable to success, we can only accomplish our vision if we work together. We have accomplished a lot this past year and it was completed by the people who have the insatiable desire to make this industry better.

We are executing on what matters — and doing it together.

Inspired by 2025’s theme, Building with Purpose, we advanced safety on the job and opened new pathways to careers in construction to enhance our workforce development needs.

The Yinz Good?™ program continues to break barriers and eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and wellness.

Our members continue to raise the bar for excellence in the built environment, as celebrated at our Building Excellence Awards which spotlights the work of our tradespeople. The projects honored stand as testaments to skill, craftsmanship,

safety, and pride that is building our region.

With the upcoming retirement of our longtime publishing partner, Jeff Burd, MBA has brought two leading industry magazines in-house and being led by staff member Ben Atwood. BreakingGround will continue offering trusted construction industry insights and proving that we are leading the industry. MBA has also taken on Developing Pittsburgh, reinforcing our collaboration with the commercial real estate and development community.

NAIOP Pittsburgh’s chapter leaders and members remain committed to support this significant regional CRE publication. Both publications will continue to focus on insights of value to readers, industry partners, and sponsors.

With MBA University (MBA-U), we offer a range of online professional development courses and training programs tailored for our industry. These courses benefit members while industry professionals enhance their skills, stay current with industry standards, and advance their careers.

We were honored and proud to co-host the 2025 AGC CLC Leadership Development Conference, which placed MBA members, signatory employers, and our region on the national stage.

We are not only physically building the region, but we are also building communities.

Inspiring are the ways our members gave back to local charities. With MBA Good Deeds we are reminded that it is our moral obligation to give back and make a difference in the areas in which we live, work, and play.

We partnered with the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh (HACP) to launch Workforce on Wheels (WOW), which provides opportunities to those jobseekers who’ve been outside the typical pathways into construction careers.

Throughout the year, we remained steadfast advocates for our industry, representing our members at the local, state, and national levels to ensure your voices are heard and we make an impact to beneficial legislation for the construction industry.

This 2025 MEMBER REPORT celebrates all we’ve accomplished together and offers a glimpse of what’s to come. I’m proud of our progress, grateful for your continued support towards these initiatives, and excited about what our MBA membership will achieve.

MBA joined 261 walkers and 31 teams in the first Pennsylvania Construction Hike for Hope. Over $100,000 was raised to support mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

AGC CLC LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE

MBA BRINGS EMERGING LEADERS TO PITTSBURGH In October, MBA proudly co‑hosted the AGC Construction Leadership Council (CLC) Leadership Development Conference, welcoming 230 emerging leaders for two days of growth and networking.

Highlights included tours of Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Innovation Center and University of Pittsburgh's BioForge, sessions on mental health and leadership, and the CLC Best Practices Roundtable. Anthony Huey (pictured right) delivered a keynote on Communication In The Age of AI. The conference concluded with a reception at Acrisure Stadium. The event highlighted Pittsburgh’s strong construction community.

Celebrating Leaders Who Put Safety First MBA hosted its annual Safety Appreciation Night at Rivers Casino, honoring those who prioritize safety and drive excellence in construction.

The event underscored safety’s role in every successful project. MBA thanks all honorees and participants for setting the standard across the region. By celebrating safety today, we strengthen tomorrow’s projects.

MBA Partners with OSHA to Boost Jobsite Safety

$2,350 Raised for Pitt and SRU AGC Student Chapters

MBA partnered with the Pittsburgh Office of OSHA, with AGC representatives present, to strengthen construction jobsite safety.

The alliance expands training, hosts events, and shares injury data to guide outreach.

“Our goal is simple: to send everyone home safely each day,” said MBA Director of Safety Bob McCall. Together, we’re building a safer future.

Membership in an AGC Student Chapter provides young professionals with an opportunity to observe and develop their skills with industry leaders. AGC of America, in conjunction with our local chapters, supports more than 170 Student Chapters nationwide. Student Chapters exist at accredited two- and four-year schools offering programs in construction management, construction technology, and construction-related engineering.

Emerging Contractors Development Program

The Emerging Contractor Development Committee (ECDC) hosted a successful panel and networking event for Minority, Women, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (MWDBE) contractors. This initiative fostered collaboration, generated new ideas, and built vital relationships, ultimately strengthening the local construction community and promoting future growth.

MBA's Emerging Contractors greatly valued the practical knowledge — directly tied to their growth — shared by industry leaders such as Dick Building Company, Landau Building Company, Mascaro Construction Company, LP., Massaro Construction Group, Mosites Construction, Rocky Bleier Construction Group, and Turner Construction Company, LP. Build On Construction Industry Career Fair More than 30 Union Locals showcased hands‑ on demonstrations, apprenticeships, and career pathways for middle and high school students.

W.O.W CyberBus 2.0: Recruiting Talent Where They Live

MBA and The Heyward House co-hosted a Career Exploration Fair for youth from local organizations including Auberle, Urban Impact Foundation, Garfield Jubilee Association, Homeless Children’s Education Fund, Nazareth Prep, and The Promise Center of Homewood.

Students discovered union trade careers through handson activities led by industry professionals.

MBA connects tens of thousands of jobseekers to construction careers each year through BuildWPA. MBA co-sponsored W.O.W CyberBus 2.0, a mobile initiative led by the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh with support from local trade unions.

Special thanks to our union partners—Carpenters Local 432, IUPAT Local 57, Sheet Metal Workers Local 12, IBEW Local 5, and Operating Engineers Local 66—for sharing expertise and inspiring future leaders.

Since July, the CyberBus has hosted job fairs and résumé workshops, engaging an average of 55 jobseekers per visit. Expanded partnerships in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia— including tablet distribution— have broadened its reach. The program opens doors to more than 20,000 underserved community members.

IAW Students Explore Construction Careers MBA’s Lance Harrell, visited the Industrial Arts Workshop (IAW) to highlight career pathways in the construction trades. IAW’s workforce development programs give students hands-on welding and fabrication experience, building skills that translate directly into industry opportunities.

With demand for skilled trades growing, IAW anticipates partnerships with trade schools to strengthen pipelines into union careers—aligning with MBA’s mission to prepare the next generation of construction professionals.

SAFER, SMARTER, SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION DAVID D. DAQUELENTE MBA Executive Director As we look ahead, I want to begin with sincere thanks for your commitment to MBA and our industry. The progress we made this past year belongs to you - our members - whose expertise strengthens the built environment and the economic foundation of our region.

You make the MBA the strong and dynamic organization it is today.

As we celebrate our 140th anniversary, our theme for the year, Building What’s Next, reflects both the achievements of our past and the promise of our future. Together, we’re ready to meet the opportunities ahead and continue advancing safer, smarter and sustainable construction.

MBA will focus on several key priorities in 2026 to support our members, strengthen our workforce, and build the future of our industry.

We will concentrate on what matters most.

Building What’s Next starts here: • A DVOCACY: MBA works with local, state, and regional elected and compliance partners prioritizing clarity, predictability, and efficiency in delivering for the built environment.

• I NDUSTRY INTELLIGENCE: MBA equips the regional market with trusted, timely, and relevant information to improve decisions and support market strategy.

• L ABOR RELATIONS: MBA negotiates market appropriate CBAs with labor union partners while expanding recruitment, retention, and training pipelines across all career levels.

Building What’s Next also reminds me of how far our industry has come and how our members always adapt to changes carefully and successfully, ensuring that every innovation improves safety, quality, and efficiency on the jobsite.

Some emerging practices and technologies have begun to make their way to the jobsite and others are on the horizon such as drones delivering fast, accurate data to inform safer, smarter decisions.

Similarly, process improvement related gains from technology and best practices in areas such as sustainable materials and methods enhancing durability and responsible construction.

MBA will continue investing in training partnerships and education, so our workforce is prepared for the demands of today—and the opportunities of tomorrow.

Over 140 years, MBA members have built a legacy of excellence. Building What’s Next means leveraging experience, skill, and collaboration to stay ahead of the curve so we can meet the future with confidence. MBA members and our regional building community are ready to take on whatever changes lie ahead.

DIGITAL LIBRARY: The Green Builders Committee and AIA–MBA Joint Committee are helping members prepare for Pennsylvania’s adoption of the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), which took effect January 1, 2026.
