Paul A . Chan dle r Visiting Professorship The Paul A. Chandler Visiting Professorship was established by Dr. David Cogan to honor Dr. Chandler’s exceptional teaching, research, and service during his tenure at Mass Eye and Ear. Dr. Chandler was known among his colleagues and trainees as a gifted surgeon and enthusiastic teacher who mentored two generations of ophthalmologists interested in glaucoma. Dr. Chandler completed his medical training and ophthalmology residency at Harvard Medical School. In 1940, he established the Glaucoma Service at Mass Eye and Ear. Among his accomplishments, Dr. Chandler’s work influenced the diagnosis and treatment of pupillary block and malignant glaucoma. A noted researcher and author, he coauthored the textbook Glaucoma in 1965 with colleague Dr. Morton Grant, which was the definitive text on glaucoma for many years, and is now in its fifth edition. Every year, the Chandler Visiting Professorship is organized by two Harvard Ophthalmology residents, who invite a celebrated ophthalmologist to Mass Eye and Ear for one day of scholarly interaction.
