Mountain Rescue Aspen (MRA) is an organization dedicated to saving lives through search, rescue and education in Pitkin County, Colorado. MRA works closely with the Pitkin County Sheriff’s office and is accredited through the Rocky Mountain Region of the national Mountain Rescue Association. MRA has two primary missions: (1) to safely locate, access, stabilize and transport backcountry patients (anyone lost or in distress) to definitive care; and (2) to educate the public on safe backcountry use. Our members undergo constant training throughout the year. In addition, the national Mountain Rescue Association requires us to go through reaccredidation every five years. Our team consists of approximately fifty members, all of whom are volunteers. Although MRA provides some team equipment, the team members provide their own personal equipment at their cost.

Did you know? By age 4, low-income children can be 18 months behind their peers in cognitive and social skills with only ½ to ¼ the vocabulary. Many never catch up. Here in our valley community, 1 in 3 children are not prepared for kindergarten. Our valley can do better. ACF’S Cradle to Career Initiative builds youth success from Aspen to Parachute, serving the needs of over 22,000 children aged 0 -18 by bringing nonprofits, schools, business, government and philanthropy together to spur regional collaborative action that will ensure that children are ready for kindergarten and graduate from high school ready for college or career.

As the backbone organization for the Cradle to Career Initiative, ACF is guiding the vision and strategy, supporting aligned activities, building public will and mobilizing funding to advance the work of the Initiative. We have established a Cradle to Career Fund to support our efforts and help initiate and expand programs and services throughout our region.
