CARBONDALE, Colo…Habitat for Humanity RFV is constructing a first-of-its-kind home on the Western Slope – a LEED Platinum home, which provides the best energy in efficient savings. The house is being built for the family of Adam Lavender, a former carpenter, furniture maker and expert mountain biker who took a bad spill while testing an off-road biking course and ended up paralyzed from the chest down. Since last October, Coldwell Banker Mason Morse has contributed 126 “woman” hours over two days to frame this home. The largest all-female volunteer group to gather in the Roaring Valley came together on May 10, which is National Women’s Build Day. Nancy Emerson measuring and cutting trim. More than 2,300 hours of labor have been contributed for the Lavender house thus far by volunteers. The participating Coldwell Banker Mason Morse ladies are: Nancy Emerson, Erin Bassett, Sue Ramsey, Roshni Slali, Becky Ciani, Paula Derevensky, Heather Marine and Shari Nova.
National Women Build Week, held May 3-11, challenges women to devote at least one day to building simple, decent and affordable housing in their local communities. More than 52,000 women volunteers from all 50 states have participated in previous years.
