Avid Media Composer Certification June 25–29, 2018

Ages 14 to adult | commuter only Hands-on training with an Avid-certified instructor, featuring project-based lessons. Avid Media Composer 101 and 110 prepare the student for testing to become an Avid Media Composer Certified User.

Tuition: $1,595 | $200 discount available for Rutgers alumni, students, and employees, and high school digital media instructors

Rutgers Summer Acting Conservatory July 1–29, 2018

Students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school | commuter or residential | audition required Rigorous conservatory training for young people serious about acting. Accepting students from across the country. Program includes classes in theater history, theater appreciation, and stage craft, as well as seminars and intensive workshops with guest teaching artists. Musical-theater track available.

Tuition: residential rate $5,850 | commuter rate $4,800 | audition fee $55

Rutgers Symphonic Wind Band and Chamber Music Camp July 8–13, 2018

Ages 11 to 18 | commuter and residential options available Video audition required Intense band and chamber music training with top teaching artists.

Large-ensemble and chamber-ensemble rehearsals, group lessons, clinics, master classes, and electives. Accomplished students may audition to perform in honors ensembles. Middle school students welcome to participate as commuters.

Rutgers Summer Dance Conservatory

Session I: July 15–20, 2018 Session II: July 22–27, 2018 Dual session: July 15–27, 2018 (Includes weekend program) Students entering grade 9 through first year of college | commuter and residential options available | video or in-person audition required

July 9–20, 2018 (weekdays) Ages 14 to 18 | commuter only

A focus on the core principles of two-dimensional design and an introduction to relevant software. Emphasis is on building visual awareness and on making software serve the designer’s vision.

Participants use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign while producing work suitable for a college admissions portfolio.

Beginner-through-advanced levels of technical proficiency are welcome.

July 9–20, 2018 (weekdays) Ages 14 to 18 | commuter only

Explore filmmaking and production techniques to shoot and edit a short film from original storyboards and scripts. Focus is on project management, aesthetics, technical knowledge, and small-group cohesion. Student filmmakers learn the process and technology involved in creating work for film and TV, working with professional cameras, sound, and lighting equipment. All equipment provided.

No experience necessary.

Tuition: $2,950

Hands-on studio art course for dedicated high school students with experience in the visual arts. Focus is on observational drawing outdoors and observational painting indoors. Students collaborate with Mason Gross faculty and emerging artists to gain insight into the artist’s practice. Portfolio Track available for students interested in applying to art school.

Tuition: $1,100

Single session tuition: residential rate $1,450 | commuter rate: $1,050.

Dual session tuition: residential rate $3,100 | commuter rate: $2,300 Audition fee: $25

Voice specialists help students of all levels build a foundation of skills in musicianship, vocal production, and stage presence through performance, rehearsals, and special sessions. Guest artist: Jake Runestad.

Rutgers Choral Music Camp NEW!

Rutgers Summer Jazz Institute July 15–20, 2018

Ages 11 to 18 | commuter and residential options available | video audition required for new applicants Music of jazz masters taught by faculty in the nationally recognized Mason Gross jazz program. Ideal for musicians interested in improving their improvisation, small-group, and large-ensemble skills. Students attend professional jazz performances. Middle school students welcome to participate as commuters.

American String Teachers Association of New Jersey Chamber Music Institute at Rutgers University

Kids Create

Session I: July 30–August 3, 2018 | Session II: August 6–10, 2018 | Session III: August 13–17, 2018 Students entering grades K-8 | commuter only | online application deadline: July 18, 2018 Children develop their imaginations and skills through drawing, painting, collage, movement, music, improvisational theater, creative dramatics, and playwriting. Classes taught by professional teaching artists. Each session’s offerings are unique, so children may participate in one or all sessions. Camp sessions end with a showcase and exhibit for family and friends. No experience required.

Tuition: $500 per session, add a second or third session and save $100 on each added session | sibling discount available | early drop-off and after-care available for an additional charge

Ages 12 to 23 | commuter or residential | performance sample video required for placement purposes only Develop and refine chamber music performance skills under the guidance of top teaching artists. Rehearsals, master classes, electives, special presentations, and social activities. Open to students playing string instruments, woodwinds, classical guitar, and piano.

Tuition: residential rate $1,100 | commuter rate $900 | collegiate program: $650 (commuter only)

Music Theory and Ear Training Boot Camp July 30–August 10, 2018

Ages 14 to adult | commuter only Covers foundational concepts of written music theory and ear training, including key signatures, time signatures, scales, intervals, harmony, solfège, sight-singing, and dictation.

Tuition: $490 music theory and ear training | $270 music theory or ear training only

Tuition: $1,100

Rutgers Digital Filmmaking Camp

Ages 14 to 18 | commuter only

Intensive program for intermediate-to-advanced dancers who seek to build artistic acuity and technical endurance while learning about options for college study and careers in dance. Dancers develop skills through daily ballet and modern technique classes.

Other styles are explored in master classes with world-class teaching artists. Students create their own choreography and have the opportunity to perform in a fully produced, end-of-session showcase.

Rutgers Oboe Reed-Making Intensive

July 30–August 1, 2018

Ages 10 to 18 | commuter only Led by Mason Gross faculty member Erin Banholzer, students develop skills for reed-making independence. Learn how to tie blanks, scrape reeds, prepare tube cane, techniques for finishing reeds, and reed-making for different climates.
