My name is Mason Moore and I am currently attending Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA where I study architecture and run cross country and track and field. I grew up in Lancaster, PA and have always had an interest in art, which is what led me to architecture.

Throughout my college experience so far, I have constantly been improving upon my artistic skills. My creativity has developed significantly and I am much more confident with programs such as Revit, Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and many rendering softwares.

The New Horizons Support Center is a sattelite facility that works together with C.B. Community Schools to provide care for students who have been through the child welfare system or juvenile justice system, specifically emotional and mental care. The center provides space where students can interact with eachother in both a playful environment and learning environment. The faculty and staff form an SEL team that consists of counselors, social workers, nurses, teachers and clerks who are all there to help turn these children into young individuals who have a voice and are able to create a sustained career for themselves.

Dec Center 02 Documentation Researching and documenting the Dec Center allowed me to share the information with someone outside of the university. Focusing on the details was the main focus, which meant creating section details and callouts to zoom in on the structure.

Along with the details, composition was very important. The information is useless if the one reading it can not understand everything clearly.

Community Amplification 03 Market Entrance

According to Kevin Lynch, when looking at a city there are five major elements to take into account. These elements include: • Paths • Nodes • Edges • Landmarks • Districts Understanding these five elements allowed several diagrams to be created, which explains how Sharswood works in a deeper sense. Where people gather around the garden and where they meet along the way are both important aspects of the community to consider.

Design Principles Our studio had the opportunity to experience a workshop that focused on cocreation. We learned that working with other disciplines is a necessity and understanding the context around a design is very important. Being able to establish design principles at the end of the workshop gave us a “guidebook” for some things to keep in mind when designing for a community. Two of the principles that are seen in this design are:

Hut On Sleds

Presque Isle State Park, Erie, Pa

The hut on sleds is located on the beaches of presque isle state park in Erie, PA. As the tides erode the sand, the hut can be towed away using the wooden sleds on the bottom of the structure. The exterior is made of timber, which has a large shutter in the front that reveals and shades a two-story glazed facade, and smaller shutters that cover the windows. The hut is totally sustainable and uses the interior space with optimum efficiency.

Center For Design 05 Collaboration and Creativity

The Center For Design Collaboration and Creativity is located just South of Glendinning Rock Garden, which is located in Philadelphia, PA. This is a place where designers from all over can join together and share the projects they may be working on or new ideas they may have created. Having an open and creative space that is one with nature allows for optimum collaboration among visitors.

Advanced Modeling The first object that was chosen for part 1 of the hybrid project was a fan. In the second part of the hybrid project, several elements of the fan were used. Firstly, the cage of the fan is represented in the structure of the pergola, which uses thin structural elements held up using a stone base. Secondly, the motion of the fan is represented in the circulation in the center of the pergola. Lastly, the addition of a fountain system that runs through the center stone structure of the pergola represents the cooling effect the fan has on its surroundings.

The second object that was chosen for part 1 of the hybrid project was a pair of glasses. In the second part of the hybrid project, a few elements of the glasses were used. Firstly, the bend and rounded shape of the glasses influenced the form of the pergola. Secondly, the idea of views is seen with the addition of benches where pedestrians can sit and view the pergola while they cool off. They also have views of the unique structure and the surrounding nature.
