Originally designed for Expo ’74 in Spokane, WA by WMFL—the predecessor of Integrus Architecture—the First Interstate Center for the Arts had remained largely unchanged since its construction, with most interior nishes and mechanical systems preserved in their original condition. Lobby
Most of the interior nishes had not been updated since the building’s original construction in 1974. This renovation provided a complete replacement of interior nishes, signi cantly revitalizing the space. In addition, ADA-compliant access was added on the south side of the building to improve accessibility to the auditorium. The original architectural drawings speci ed a wood slat ceiling, which was never installed. To honor the intent of the original design—created by WMFL, the predecessor of Integrus Architecture—we introduced new wood slat ceilings that echo the nger-jointed wood slats used in the auditorium. A striking feature of the renovated space is a series of hanging ballet dancer sculptures, designed and crafted by local Spokane artists Bill and Karma Simmons.

Reception Room
This space was originally used as a rehearsal room and had not been updated since its construction in the early 1970s. It was fully repurposed into a welcoming lounge and bar area for guests arriving early for shows, o ering a comfortable place to relax and enjoy music.
