In Grade 6, as part of the unit “Human Allies,” students engaged with a veterinarian guest speaker who shared personal reflections highlighting key human qualities such as empathy, compassion, responsibility, and cooperation. Through real-life stories and honest reflections, the speaker modeled how humans can be allies to others by caring, sharing experiences, and supporting those in need. This session encouraged students to connect the unit’s ideas to their own lives and reflect on how they can act as human allies in their community.

Student-led Conferences are about empowering learners to take ownership of their learning! During the conference, learners shared their experiences on how they have developed both subject knowledge and essential skills that support independent learning. Through each unit, learners plan, design, and improve their work by using digital tools and AI responsibly to support ideas, research, and problem-solving. Learners practice ATL skills, such as communication, self-management, critical thinking, and collaboration by organizing time effectively, reflecting on feedback, and improving final products. Sharing their experience with their parents shows their responsibility for their own progress and growth.

In I&S, we worked collaboratively in groups using guided map questions and the Our World in Data Human Development Index (HDI). We took on clear roles, such as explaining the map legend and identifying countries and HDI values, and we swapped roles to share responsibility. We analyzed the maps to identify patterns of development, compare countries, and discuss the limits of using one indicator to measure development. This activity helped us develop our map-reading skills, data interpretation, and ability to use evidence to support our ideas.
