At Maryvale, leading and serving are as connected as the girls and their friends. Servant leadership is fostered in an accepting environment where the possibility of reward outweighs the fear of failure. From social justice and Student Council to theater and athletics, opportunities to lead and serve exist at every corner of the campus.
As part of the Maryvale Leadership Institute, Middle and Upper School students have the chance to participate in formal leadership training and companion community service outreach.

One of 19 schools across the country affiliated with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Maryvale is rooted in Catholic beliefs and welcoming to those of all religions. From theology lessons to regular prayer and Liturgy, faith is an important part of student life and spiritual development. Athletics
Whether you are a newcomer to a sport or an accomplished athlete, Maryvale believes that all girls should have the opportunity to participate in athletics to round out their educational experience. Lessons learned on our fields, track and courts can be applied to life beyond the Greenspring Valley campus.
The Maryvale Lions have proudly won numerous Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM) championships, with a record-setting five titles in one school year. Also, our girls have been named All-Americans, IAAM All-Stars and “Athlete of the Week” by the Baltimore Sun, among other honors. Many continue to earn accolades and shatter records as they move on and become collegiate student-athletes.

Arts
As the lead in a Maryvale production or as a participant in one of the school’s singing groups, students have numerous opportunities to take the stage. In both the Middle and Upper schools, drama, theater technology, visual arts, digital arts, music and dance have become an important part of the curriculum and after-school activities. Throughout the arts, technology is infused to create modern works and prepare girls for the next generation of jobs.

Living Classroom
Located on 100-plus acres in the gorgeous Greenspring Valley, Maryvale’s college-like campus provides the perfect setting for a living classroom. Featuring an outdoor amphitheater, sprawling woods, nature trails and a waterfall, the grounds offer the ideal opportunity for collaborative learning, self-reflection and quiet study. Whether students are enjoying an English class in the amphitheater, tending to the lush Environmental Science gardens or filming on the Castle Terrace, outdoor learning is strongly encouraged and regularly incorporated within the curriculum.
