What an incredible year! Our girls have shown themselves to be resilient, kind, supportive, and courageous young women, ready to face every challenge life can pose. Their engagement with online learning has been exemplary and is reflected in their outstanding achievements both inside and outside the classroom. As one of the newest members of the Marymount community, I have felt immediately at home in this warm and welcoming School. I can see why so many of our alumnae call Marymount their ‘home from home.’ I have been privileged to participate in the unique and joyous Marymount traditions of Graduation ceremonies, both in Middle School with our great Grade 8s and in High School with our Grade 12 students. Marymount is a one-of-a-kind school; there is always a reason to celebrate! I am so grateful to our faculty and staff, whose dedication to their students knows no bounds, and to you, our community, whose support is making a palpable difference in every corner of the school. Throughout this first year, I have witnessed firsthand the commitment of the Marymount family to continue the mission of the Sisters and carry their legacy of love and service to others into the future. The Marymount community and Sunday community came together to support the renovation of the Chapel, which is now a serene, contemplative area for students, staff and visitors of all faiths to sit and reflect. Support of the dining hall extension has transformed mealtimes at Marymount, brightening up the room so that the beauty of the space matches the delicious food! IB learners were given more space for learning and collaboration in Main House thanks to the support of the RSHM Sisters. A new DP Lounge and several classrooms house our Grade 11 and 12 students in a uniquely beautiful setting.

To encourage a problem-solving approach to the sciences, a field where women are traditionally underrepresented, the STEAM hub brings together Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics under one roof. STEAM days are held in the Middle School three times a year, with visiting speakers, challenges and competitions taking place during the school day. completed

The purpose-built Dance Hub has sprung floors and dedicated equipment, allowing girls to enjoy more lessons for a growing number of enthusiastic young dancers. Thanks to donations from the Marymount community, a new all-weather pitch is used for multiple sports including soccer, tennis and basketball. It will allow students to host more competitions on campus and give them greater room to move and grow in the Physical Education programme. coming autumn

New updates will include a transformed entrance, changing and support areas of the Sr. Ann Marie Hill Sports Hall. In September, the students will return to professional-looking changing areas, a light-filled, inspiring entrance and a warm and welcoming supporter area for families to cheer on our Marymount Aces! IMPACTin community As a Catholic school, we seek to live out the values of the Gospel and to love our neighbours as ourselves. Despite the challenges posed by restrictions on social interaction, the Marymount community pulled together to support and be of service to one another. Impact Through Collective Giving Both individually and through student groups, girls have shown their spirit of generosity by supporting their local communities. Their focus during the 2020-2021 year was combating loneliness and isolation, feelings enhanced by the health crisis. Food Banks Students demonstrated their charitable nature by raising funds and collecting donations for our local food banks at Christmas, at Lent and during the summer term. The Captain Tom 100 Challenge With IB Diploma exams cancelled this year, Grade 12 students used this time to create and distribute 100 hygiene packages to Chelsea Methodist Church, in support of individuals who are homeless or rough sleeping in Chelsea and the surrounding areas. Girls travelled to Chelsea in May to learn about the organisation's mission, hand out their hygiene packs and prepare and serve lunches to vulnerable individuals.

Kingston Care Home Grade 10 paired with Kingston Care Home to exchange letters and pictures with residents to help fight loneliness and create connections through the generations. Project Linus UK Middle School students donated knitted squares to make new home-made Kingtston patchwork quilts and knitted blankets which are distributed to sick and traumatised children to provide a sense of security and comfort. St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church Middle School Advisor groups donated six hampers to families and individuals in need at St. Ann’s church in Kingston. Family Fundraising The Parents' Association organised an auction to support two worthy local causes. The Hardship Fund provides financial assistance to families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Christmas Day Dinner Richmond supports recent care leavers through homemade Christmas celebrations.

Global Awareness and Citizenship This year saw a re-connection to St. Joseph’s School in Chivuna, a fellow RSHM and de-facto 'sister' school in Zambia. Under the guidance of Sister Deborah Jamali RSHM, who is facilitating the development of this partnership, students from the Student Goals and Implementation Committee (SGIC) communicated with girls in their equivalent group JPIC (Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation) in Zambia. The girls spoke to each other about their different countries and their shared experiences. The girls from Zambia explained to our students that they have been working to raise money for their community, particularly a nearby orphanage. They are also raising awareness of women’s rights, the trafficking of women and children, identifying issues related to poverty in their communities and creating ways to care for the environment. The St. Joseph’s girls asked incredibly poignant questions about the life of women in the UK and explained some of the challenges that girls and women face in their community and culture. This struck a chord with many of our Marymount students who felt passionately about helping them support their goals to achieve social justice, so they created a fundraiser selling pizzas and cookies, raising £130. Clothes were donated by a Marymount parent for JPIC to sell in order to support their work in the community; laptops have also been acquired by St. Joseph’s using funds the Parents’ Association and students have raised over the last two years. Going forward, new ideas are being explored that will contribute to goals set by the girls at St. Joseph’s. Students and staff from both schools are currently working together on a peer mentoring scheme in English, Mathematics and Science. We are excited to be learning from one another, sharing cultural experiences and growing this friendship and partnership.

IMPACTfor life Now more than ever, students are learning the important lesson that being a source of strength and encouragement to those around them has a direct impact on their well-being. Marymount has taken steps to reinforce this idea through educational programs and partnerships that assist our students, families, faculty and staff. Financial Assistance for Families In 2020, the Marymount Hardship Recovery Fund was established to support families who had suffered financially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This fund provides short- and mediumterm assistance to families whose daughters would not otherwise have been able to continue their studies at Marymount. To date, donations totalling over £100,000 (including proceeds from the Christmas online auction), alongside support from the school, assisted 11 families in the academic year 2020-2021. Sharing Learning Strategies Marymount’s Director of Specialist Learning Provision, Dr. Sandra Forrest, has been sharing her insight and expertise into how girls learn with parents as part of our Learning to Learn programme. Ms. Machado, the newest member of our Learning Resources department, and Dr. Forrest have presented different aspects of their Approaches To Learning programme through online seminars

that provide practical, evidence-based solutions and strategies to aid learning. Shared with both parents and students, these workshops foster parental engagement with their daughter’s progress through the International Baccalaureate, Middle Years and Diploma programmes. Parents' Association (PA) The Parents' Association creates opportunities for parents and guardians of Marymount students to meet one another and become involved with the school. All parents and guardians of Marymount students are automatically members of the PA and are welcome to every meeting and event. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, PA reps and the Executive Team brought parents together via local walks, Zoom discussions, and the very first Great Marymount International Day Quiz. We look forward to hosting on-campus events again in the near future.

Student Engagement and Networking Every year, Marymount invites dozens of speakers to share their experiences with students, helping them make better-informed choices for their future. Students relish the possibility of speaking to those ‘in the field’ with tangible experience to impart, and these external speakers are often cited as amongst the most memorable moments in students’ year. In 2020-2021 Alumnae took part in the Grade 12 “Think Big, Think Beyond” series, where big issues were discussed including sexism in the workplace, and the importance of job experience. In December the Careers Fair welcomed speakers from 10 different professions chosen by its High School participants. Professional Development for Faculty and Staff The School supports its commitment to lifelong learning by providing a rich variety of opportunities for faculty and staff to pursue ongoing professional development. These opportunities range from practical First Aid qualifications to virtual workshops that explore instructional philosophies and subjectspecific areas. We are proud that not only does our staff participate in their own continued education, but also play a role in sharing our own best practices with teaching professionals all around the world. Three members of staff sit on the Board of Governors for local schools, sharing the Marymount experience and best practices with fellow educational establishments. Alongside professional development, members of staff and faculty also participate in a wide range of volunteer activities, including Saturday School, Zambia initiatives and Creativity, Activity and Service activities with the students.
