OUR SCHOOL IS OUR LIFELINE .. . For much of twelve year , The threads of our lives come together here And form a common bond, A common spirit, a common knowledge. Some of us cling to this life line and are Entwined in its strength and functions Others are less a part, but still share the bond

... IN SPIRIT ...

Spirit Week Revived Sagging Spirit And Started New Traditions.

Left: Carson Rains Reigns As pirit Week King

11

The Seniors were the over-all winners in the Spirit Week competition, which included a bed race, pie-eating contest, bubble-blowing, tricycle race, tug of war, egg toss, sack race & obstacle course. Hundreds participated in . . . . . . and cheered on the highly spirited events.

12

Carson Rains was crowned king at the halftime of the Powderpuff football game in which the Sr.- Fr. and the Jr.-Soph. girls tied. A pep rally and bonfire topped off a week of good times.

The Freshman Slave Auction brought needed revenue to the Senior treasury and strange apparitions to school the following day. Seniors made their Frosh slave dres and perform in curious ways. This tradition, lo t for several years, now links us again with past classes .. . . . .. .

FACULTY ADMINISTRATION STAFF This \\'as a very trying year for the Faculty, Administration, and 'taff. The weather and dire financial situation made for many problems. Each of us had a difficult task: the Faculty trying to teach and keep students in line; the admini ¡tration trying to find the money to keep operating; the staff trying to warm, feed and bus us ... all this under the worst of conditions.

The Varsity came a long way, improving to a 2-c record. The thrilling win over King (16-14) marked our first victory in 3 years. Freshman Mark Creekmore quarterbacked a gut ·y game. Junior teve Lamblin, thank' to good blocking in the line, rushed for 21 yards. The defen e played an excellent game. Thi~ year's team howed a new spirit; they "wanted" to play the game. With a "break" here and there, Coach Kennedy felt we could han' won possibly 5 or 6 more games. The team is definitely on the "up", ·aid Kennedy.

Julie Spiers (Australia), Her smile said it all.

"Barriers" often xi t between the different nationalities of the world, but Julie Spiers, our foreign exchange student, made everyone f el that tho barriers were eliminated. For the time that she was here, everyone held a great admiration for her because of her unique and charming per onality. She was well liked not becau e of her intellegence, though she was intellegent, but becaus of her friendliness. She made everyone feel at ease, and though there were differences between the nationalities, she made everyon recognize th common "bond " that all people have. Julie was truly a gr at friend and a gr at ¡tudent. ~he will be rem em be red by the entire community.

Jeff Howard

Mr. Andrew Churko

Mr. Andrew Churko is retiring this year after a long career in the teaching field. After teaching one year in Arkansas, he came to Waynesville where he has spent 26 years teaching such diverse subjects as Math, Mechanical Drawing, Electronics, Physics, Chemistry, D.C.T., and Driver's Training. We will miss him and wish him the best of luck in what we are sure will be a busy retirement. Farewell and Jonapot Andy!

Jeff Howard, a sophomore, does more than climb around the gym. In this year where death has so often touched our community, he has saved a life through his bravery. Jeff saved the life of a Centerville youth, Ted Solomon, who was swimming at the Caesar's Creek Dam. He tried in vain to save a second boy, Steve Stricker. We join the many others who have honored him in saying congratulations and right on Jeff!
