2018 ALUMNI WEEK CHI RHO

Memories

CONNECTION FALL 2018

Noblesse Oblige

Alumni Week culminates the Alumni Association’s and our alma mater’s efforts during the year to bring alumni together and closer to Maryknoll. The Alumni Association, with the help and support of Maryknoll’s Alumni Office, hosts many events throughout the year, including the annual Memorial Mass, alumni gatherings on the Mainland, and various social and educational activities. However, none brings as many alumni together as Alumni Week, which includes our golf tournament, bowling, and luau. The importance of Alumni Week extends well beyond simply numbers at these events. Alumni Week brings individual classes closer together as they meet and work with the Alumni Office to plan their reunions or volunteer to help at an event. It also brings alumni from a wide range of different classes and decades closer together as they meet to plan the events. Truly, no event brings the TOTAL alumni community closer together than Alumni Week! It’s always great to see our alumni getting together and working together and this year’s Alumni Week did not disappoint. DERRICK WONG ‘68 ALUMNI ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT

Alumni from across the decades golfed, bowled, gathered at the annual alumni luau, shared memories, caught up with old friends and made new friends -- and came back to campus -- the third week of July for the Annual Maryknoll Alumni Week. The week began with the 27th Annual FORE! Golf Tournament at Leilehua Golf Course on July 13. A total of 144 golfers teed off in the shotgun tournament, which raised money for Maryknoll’s annual fund. On Sunday, July 15 more than 100 bowlers gathered at Aiea Bowl for a fun afternoon of bowling, the always-good-food at Aiea Bowl (including the famous lemon crunch cake). More than 200 alumni and family gathered on July 21 for the annual alumni luau at the Maryknoll Community Center. The Class of 1968 celebrated its Jubilee year, marking 50 years from graduation. The Class presented $42,000 toward an endowed scholarship and a pledge of at least another $8,000 to bring it to the $50,000 needed for a named endowed scholarship. Mahalo to the Class of 1968 for it’s generosity. And Congratulations to Derrick ’68 and Carol Kwak ’68 Wong, recipients of the Golden Jubilarian Award for doing the most to keep the class of 1968 connected and engaged throughout the years.

WINNERS! The top male bowler at the 2018 Jared Kaufmann Bowl-A-Rama was Michael Kaufmann ’99 and the top female bowler was Kendra Wong ’88. Golf: The grand prize 27th place winner at the 27annual FORE Golf Tournament went to the team of Reginal Pang ’63, Kevin Ramirez and Shiloh Niles ’25.
