About the Mary Free Bed Foundation As a nonprofit organization, Mary Free Bed relies on the generosity of donors whose financial support is crucial to improving the lives of our patients and their families. In 2012, the Mary Free Bed Foundation was established to support the hospital’s mission to restore hope and freedom through philanthropy. Philanthropic investments enable us to support thousands of people from our community and beyond with innovative therapy programs, specialized technology and capital improvements.

What is the With a Mary Heart Employee Giving Campaign?

Since the program launched in 2018, Mary Free Bed employees have made an extraordinary difference through our annual giving campaign. With a Mary Heart is an opportunity to contribute to the program or fund that most inspires you.

Mary Free Bed & Mary Free Bed at Covenant HealthCare Gifts directed to these funds enable us to provide charitable care so all patients can achieve the best possible outcome. It’s a valuable resource for patients who need adaptive equipment, ramps for home accessibility, extended services, caregiver training, travel arrangements, interpretation services and help with transitional financial emergencies due to limited insurance coverage or financial means.

Mary’s Mission Your generosity to Mary’s Mission provides vital support for programs, services and state-of-the-art equipment and technology that help patients rebuild their lives and achieve their highest level of independence.

Employee-to-Employee Giving Fund

Greatest Need

Sometimes we can use a little help from a friend. This program provides a limited financial gift to support team members through financial hardship — such as emergency housing issues, help paying utility bills and assistance when a family member is sick.

Mary Free Bed at Covenant

Greatest Need

Unrestricted discretionary fund for Mary Free Bed at Covenant HealthCare needs/programs as determined by local hospital leadership.

Mary Free Bed at Covenant Center for Autism Gifts directed to these funds support efforts to expand and enhance services to families in the Great Lakes Bay Region through innovative programs, education/training, equipment, and outreach.

Recreational Therapy Your donation will enhance activity-based treatment (such as gardening, woodworking or bicycling) to help patients meet their rehabilitation goals and return home. This innovative approach to rehabilitation also may include aquatic therapy, animal-assisted interventions, community reintegration field trips and peer support groups.

Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired For over one hundred years, the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI) has carried out its mission to help individuals with low vision or blindness thrive in a sighted world. In 2020, ABVI became an independent subsidiary of Mary Free Bed. Your support will help us make a greater impact on the community we serve.

Joan Secchia Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital Your gift will help build Michigan’s first freestanding hospital dedicated exclusively to children’s rehabilitation. The state-of-the-art hospital will allow Mary Free Bed to serve more children with specialized services and care. Learn more about this monumental project at maryfreebed.com/kids.

Full Peds Ahead — An Initiative for Kids at Mary Free Bed Full Peds Ahead is dedicated to improving access to care and models of care for our youngest patients. Your gift will be an investment in evaluation and rehabilitation services, equipment and other critical needs essential for kids with health and physical challenges.

Wheelchair & Adaptive Sports Fund An essential element of Mary Free Bed’s continuum of care, WAS offers classes, clinics, special events and opportunities to play competitive sports. Thanks to the generosity of donors, our program is one of the biggest of its kind in the country and provides kids and adults with something that no doctor can prescribe — joy!

Matthew Fitzpatrick Memorial Scholarship Fund Matthew Fitzpatrick was a beloved employee of Mary Free Bed who passed away in 2019. To honor his legacy, his family established a fund to award scholarships to employees pursuing a degree or another professional certification. Your donation will help Mary Free Bed team members further their educational goals.
