The Baby is a 1973 B-movie directed by Ted Post. The film is usually classified as horror, but it is actually more of a psychological drama.
The Baby - The adaptation was originally produced by The Visceral Company and had its world premiere on June 12, 2013 as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival. “A satiric production of the 1973 film, a demented, often campy, psychological thriller, with elements of macabre horror.” - Bonnie Priever, Tolucan Times. Andrew Moore from Mad Theatrics calls it “A loving farce of an obscure and obscene film”.

Our 32nd season theme is “Transcendence”. Transcendence comes from the Latin prefix trans-, meaning "beyond," and the word scandare, meaning "to climb." When you achieve transcendence, you have gone beyond ordinary limitations The word is often used to describe a spiritual or religious state, or a condition of moving beyond physical needs and realities.
For our plays this season they spoke to going beyond ordinary limits artistically and philosophically or both. Under themes of life after life, the after life, creating unrealistic lives and moving beyond it all. The art of storytelling, I believe, can achieve transcendence for audiences and artists. It is a special gift to watch it all unfold. We are firm believers in creating together, collaboration and original theatre, which you will see in our 24/25 season as well.
Thank you for supporting Bruka Theatre and allowing the opportunity to create, share and experience innovative live theatre at Brüka - I am “beyond” grateful
Always,

I happened upon this strange and twisted cautionary tale after watching a video podcast called “The Best of the Worst” by Red Letter Media. The host of the program, who is used to sitting through the worst films ever made, had a moment of realization in regards to the 1973 psychological horror film “The Baby.”
He said, “It’s the most amazing movie I've ever seen. I think this might be the greatest movie … ever.” After watching the movie myself, I came to the same conclusion. My next thought was, “This needs to be on the stage, and I have to see this at Brüka.” After some research, I came across Dan Spurgeon’s adaptation, and I fell in love again. Someone was brave enough to take the source material, preserve all the elements of the twisted fairy tale, and amplify the campiness of 1970’s melodrama. I hope you all find this as sick and entertaining as I did.
