Artist Statement
My paintings are magical moments, where sunlight is the conductor, creating a symphony of highlights and shadows. A place where dappled light dances serendipitously through the windows of the soul evoking a deep connection with nature.
My whimsical creations recapture a fleeting glimpse from our childhood, a time where a sense of wonder was commonplace.
Artist Bio
David Brickell earned a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art where he was a student of the renowned artist Julian Stanczak (the father of the Op Art movement).
Brickell adopts the style of American Luminists augmented with Impressionistic brush strokes and often works with oils on canvas.
His pieces attempt to capture the full dynamic range of light as can only be experienced by the human eye.
The eye is invited to wander through the harmonious interplay between highlights and shadows which vibrantly imbue the scene with majestic luminosity.
Impasto brushstrokes create an impressionistic rhythm of their own emulating the wind dancing upon every surface of flowers, leaves, sky and water.
