Serpentine symbolizes the natural movement through time. The three interconnected stages of time; past, present, and future. The serpentine shape drives the design, blending the architecture and spatial layout, representing the progression of time. The west side exposes the old beams as an homage to the past. The structure’s curved ceiling panels meet the existing beams in the center, akin to interlocking moments where past and present collide. The blank canvas on the east side ceiling represents the future, opportunity for innovation.

River’s name translates to “shaded with cottonwoods” in Spanish. The Cheyenne Indigenous tribes tell a tale of the cottonwoods releasing stars. As each twig the stars are released, and even more escape when the twigs break again as ground.

environment has historically been used as a way to either perpetuate inequality or to challenge it. Wayfinding was a tool used in order to ensure marginalized campus would feel seen. Though resources existed for marginalized they were not embraced, making it difficult to navgiate. Signage was embrace and welcome students into these spaces.
Standard handicapped logos were replaced, resized, and emboldened through colors to embrace wheelchair users, rather than hide them.
Neutral Restrooms - Gender neutral restrooms were highlighted using Colorado University’s colorful principles of community, highlighting the existence of this space.
Rooms: To balance the private location, signage was designed to bring these light, encouraging awareness of religious minorities on campus.
