MEC Missing and Exploited Children Training & Technical Assistance Program The National Criminal Justice Training Center is proud to announce our new grant, the Missing and Exploited Children Training and Technical Assistance (MEC TTA) Program. The working group partners, as shown on this page, conducted a survey aimed to identify the gaps in training currently being offered, and to come up with new innovative modules that could be delivered to a multidisciplinary audience.

MEC TTA provides training to state and local law enforcement, prosecutors, forensic interviewers, child advocacy center personnel, social workers, juvenile court personnel and other child serving professionals to strengthen multidisciplinary responses aimed at improving prosecution and prevention of child victimization cases.

The goal of MEC TTA is to develop a comprehensive list of specialized training programs delivered at both the national and regional level. TTA will be offered in various formats, including instructor led classroom training, online self-paced courses, webinars and customized training solutions.

Multi-disciplinary subject matter experts working in the field of child exploitation investigations, protection and prevention will provide the instruction and lead the training events.

10th Annual Crimes Against Children in Indian Country Conference www.ncjtc.org/cacic Native American youth are impacted by unique and challenging threats that affect their physical and emotional development and wellbeing. This conference was formed in response to the often unmet needs of Native youth. The advisory/planning committee is made up of representatives from a wide range of tribal and non-tribal law enforcement, government, and social service agencies. An important goal of the conference is to strengthen relationships between various agencies, tribes, and states to promote a multi-disciplinary, multijurisdictional approach to serving Native youth. Sessions on diverse topics will provide you with the knowledge and tools you need to improve life in your community, using a comprehensive, collaborative approach.

Crowd Control www.fvtc.edu/mytraining | www.wilenet.org* Participants will learn the value of a disciplined response from a properly trained and properly equipped unit in order to effectively manage the challenging circumstances involved in crowd control situations. Officers and supervisors attending this class will come to understand the meaning of the statement, “In a crowd control situation you will accomplish more with ten officers working as a team than 100 officers working as individuals.” Lt. Lost Art of Empty Hand Control www.fvtc.edu/mytraining | www.wilenet.org* Empty hand control tactics such as locks, manipulations and pressure points have been proven effective for officers well before the use of TASERs and other intermediate weapons. Participants will take part in hands-on exercises that demonstrate these control tactics, as well as effective escape methods to combat common holds.

3rd Annual Ohio Law Enforcement Administrative Professionals Training Conference www.ncjtc.org/ohleap The Ohio Law Enforcement Administrative Professionals (OHLEAP) strive to educate, motivate and inspire those who attend this conference, and introduce you to new people who will help you “rise to the challenge”. Basic Law Enforcement Media Training www.fvtc.edu/mytraining | www.wilenet.org* Participants will learn strategies and methods to work as partners with the media. Specific topics include the five things you never say to media, the first question to ask when contacted by the media, how to positively pitch stories, and visual strategies for effective television interviews. In addition, participants will learn interview tips and tactics regarding vocal tone, voice inflection, and physical appearance. The class also covers a reporter’s story development process and how the police can influence that process.

6th Annual School Resource Officer Training Conference June 16−18, 2015 | Appleton, Wisconsin This conference provides law enforcement and school personnel with information on issues impacting the safety of schools and communities. Conference sessions focus on current trends in addressing school violence through crime prevention and response strategies, as well as emerging technologies in law enforcement.

Building A Legacy Register today for the 15th Annual Law Enforcement Administrative Professionals (LEAP) Training Conference scheduled June 17–19, 2015 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Additional conference information is available at www.ncjtc.org/leap.

Every year this conference reminds us of the importance of law enforcement administrative professionals and we are excited to again provide a conference aimed specifically at their unique training needs. This conference is planned by a team of law enforcement administrative professionals from around the state who have the pulse of what’s happening in policing today. LEAP: Making Today’s Dream Tomorrow’s Reality In October 1996, the FBI Milwaukee Office provided a two-day training session for Wisconsin's administrative assistants. The FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia provided the entry-level instructor for the training. The networking that occurred at this unique training sparked the beginning of the "LEAP" story. Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) attended this training and heard the need for more advanced and profession-specific training that was expressed by the participants.

Around this same time, law enforcement administrative professionals in the Greater Milwaukee area began meeting on a quarterly basis.

Originally this group was known as "Southeastern Wisconsin Law Enforcement Secretaries" (SWLES). As membership grew, participation expanded to include all regions of the state and the name changed to Wisconsin's Law Enforcement Administrative Professionals (LEAP).
