The Innocent Victims Series is a three part training series that provides law enforcement, medical examiners, forensic pathologists, child protection investigators, medical personnel, and prosecutors, the comprehensive training needed to successfully investigate crimes against children and prosecute cases. Instruction is provided by law enforcement, forensic interviewers, medical examiners, forensic pathologists, and prosecutors. Child Abuse Investigation www.ncjtc.org/cai September 16-19, 2014 | Knoxville, TN This training is designed to provide participants with up-to-date information on: 1) the medical diagnosis of child abuse and neglect; 2) the importance of a team approach in investigating child abuse and neglect; 3) the best practices in conducting forensic interviews with children; 4) the most effective interrogation techniques; 5) ways to seek out corroborative evidence; 6) managing multiple victim cases; and 7) what current legal issues exist for successfully prosecuting child abuse and neglect cases.

Unexplained Child Death Investigation www.ncjtc.org/ucd October 22-23, 2014 | Appleton, WI This unique training is designed by child death investigators, medical examiners, child protection investigators, prosecutors, and child fatality review teams and is intended to improve the competencies and capacities of these same professional groups. Best results often come from multidisciplinary investigation platforms. The focus of this training is to teach students how to investigate a child fatality using this platform. They will receive instruction on evidence identification, medical determinations of death, interview and interrogation skills, and scene reconstruction.

This intensive 2-day training is designed by subject matter experts with collective experience from more than 500 homicide cases and focuses on understanding and building the relationships between the forensic pathologist, the homicide investigator, and the prosecutor in successfully investigating and prosecuting child homicide cases. Each learning module is designed to strengthen the homicide investigation as a result of collaboration between disciplines.
