Durata intervento: Giugno 2008 – Ottobre 2008.

Oggi si ritiene che le strutture commerciali abbiano una efficacia limitata nel tempo, che possiamo valutare intorno ai dieci anni.

Trascorso questo tempo generalmente è necessario provvedere ad un restyling della struttura nel suo complesso, facendo leva sui diversi aspetti che la connotano nei confronti dei clienti: la proposta commerciale, le finiture, l’illuminazione, la comunicazione.

L’intervento sul centro commerciale l’ARIOSTO ha agito su queste leve, senza però interessare in maniera significativa la proposta commerciale in quanto la struttura è in comproprietà fra diversi soggetti, non interessati a modificare le loro attività.

Il restyling nasceva con l’obiettivo di rinnovare significativamente l’immagine complessiva del centro commerciale sia perché si trattava di una struttura operativa già da diversi anni e che quindi aveva perso dell’appeal di un tempo, sia per dare una risposta all’apertura di altre strutture commerciali limitrofe.

La struttura esistente era caratterizzata da un disegno particolarmente strutturato, con una impostazione architettonica degli esterni che si rifletteva pesantemente anche sulla decorazione dell’interni. Il disegno degli esterni è configurato attraverso la modulazione di geometrie basate sul quadrato; in continuità con questo il quadrato

è stato utilizzato come matrice progettuale per il design degli interni.

La struttura volumetrica interna è stata mantenuta inalterata ad eccezione di un’intervento di demolizione che ha interessato la hall principale d’ingresso, consentendo la rivitalizzazione di uno spazio che in principio era stato concepito di “passaggio” e che invece è diventato il fulcro della nuova concezione di accoglienza della struttura. Per rafforzare la potenzialità di aggregazione sociale, sono stati realizzati maggiori spazi di sosta attrezzati ed un’ampia area è stata destinata all’intrattenimento per i bambini.

Per enfatizzare la sensazione di rinnovamento le scelte progettuali, in particolare sulle finiture, sono state guidate dalla ricerca della massima differenziazione delle nuove rispetto alle vecchie. Questo si è espresso in un linguaggio caratterizzato dall’utilizzo di un’unica cromia, il rosso, che lavora in contrasto con toni neutri come il grigio ed il bianco.

Grande importanza è stata data al light design con l’obiettivo di valorizzare le caratteristiche spaziali degli ambienti enfatizzando la connotazione commerciale.

I corpi illuminanti assumono inoltre funzione architettonica la dove influiscono, non solo con il loro apporto luminoso, ma anche con il posizionamento ed il design, a definire lo spazio. Consapevoli dell’importanza di questi nel design complessivo dell’intervento, si è provveduto al disegno di elementi illuminanti originali evitando di utilizzare prodotti di serie, in particolare il design è stato generato attraverso l’utilizzo di geometrie elementari, come il parallelepipedo ed il cilindro, declinate però enfatizzando il ”fuori scala” dimensionale.

E’ proprio il fuori scala che rende interessante un sistema di per sé semplice ma che riesce ad interagire con i volumi complessi e apparati decorativi forti.

Per finire, è rilevante l’intervento fatto sulla comunicazione, questa è stata concepita come parte integrante del design degli interni, grandi superfici sono trattate con l’utilizzo di grafiche retroilluminate sostituibili. Il dinamismo della grafica che periodicamente viene rinnovata, genera percezioni sempre diverse e mantiene attuale il centro commerciale.

Nowadays we think that trade centers have an efficacy that is limited during the time, that we can assess after approximately ten years.

Generally, this span of time being passed by, it is necessary to carry out a restyling of the facility as a whole, focusing on several aspects that characterise it with regards to its customers: its trade offer, its finishing, its lighting and its communication.

The intervention on the trade center l’ARIOSTO worked on these aspects, but without concerning in a significative way its trade offer since this facility is a coownership among several stakeholders who are not interested in changing their business.

Initially the restyling aimed at significally renewing the general look of the trade center both because it has been an organisational facility for many years and therefore it has lost its past appeal and also in order to react to the opening of other near trade facilities.

The existing facility was characterised by a very structured design, with the outside architectonic planning that was strongly reflected on interior decoration, too. The outside drawing is depicted through the modulation of geometries based upon the square; with continuity with that, the square has been used as a plan matrix for the interior design.

The inside volumetric frame has been kept unchanged except for an intervention of destruction that concerned the main entrance hall, allowing to revitalize a space that, in the beginning, was designed as a “passage” space; on the contrary, it became the hub of the new idea of welcoming for the facility. In order to strengthen the potentiality of social aggregation, larger and equipped break spaces have been planned and a wide area has been devoted to children entertainment.

In order to enhance the sensation of renewing, the plan choices, in particular for finishing, have been driven by the search for the utmost diversification between the new ones and the old ones.

That was expressed using a language characterised by the use of one single tone, red, that works in contrast with neutral tones such as grey and white.

A great importance is attached to light design in order to develop the space features of rooms thus enhancing the trade connotation. The lighting devices also have an architectural function wherever they contribute to define the space not only with their lighting supply but also with their position and design.

We were aware of their importance on the whole design of the intervention and therefore we designed original lighting elements avoiding the use of mass produced articles; in particular the design was determined by using basic geometries, such as the parallelepiped and the cylinder, but using them underlining the dimensional “out of scale”.

It is actually the out of scale that makes the system be interesting: it is simple but it succeeds in interacting with complex volumes and strong decorations.

Last but not least, the intervention on communication is also important; it is conceived as an integral part of interior design; large surfaces are treated by making use of replaceable backlit graphics.

Graphics dynamism, which is renewed on a regular basis, gives different perceptions that are never the same and makes the trade center be updated.

design emiliana martinelli Sistema modulare sospeso con cavi in acciaio predisposto con due corpi illuminanti per ciascun modulo. L’ insieme è formato da: – Una struttura portante formata da una barra in alluminio estruso di lunghezza cm 150 tagliata, forata e verniciata nel colore argento o bianco.

– Da due corpi cilindrici di diametro cm 30 alti 43 in alluminio verniciato, fissati alla barra tramite un particolare supporto a incastro.

I corpi illuminanti sono cablati per lampade a ioduri metallici da 150 W e sono completi di gruppo d’alimentazione e di vetro diffusore. La barra, oltre che da supporto di collegamento e di sostegno dei corpi illuminanti, viene utilizzata per il collegamento dei loro cavi elettrici e per il passaggio all’interno del cavo d’alimentazione tra modulo e modulo. I moduli possono essere installati singolarmente o collegati tra di loro tramite un giunto forato in alluminio estruso che permette di ottenere soluzioni in linea, a 90°, a T e a croce in modo da poter seguire e disegnare diversi percorsi secondo lo spazio architettonico disponibile.

It is a hanging modular system with steel cables and equipped with two lighting bodies for each module. The whole consists of: – A bearing framework made of an extruded aluminium 150 cm long bar, perforated and silver or white painted.

– Two 30 cm diameter, 43 cm high cylindrical bodies that are made of painted aluminium and fixed to the bar by a special embedded support.

The lighting bodies are wired for metal iodide 150 W lamps and are equipped with a supply group and with a glass diffuser.

The bar is used not only as a connection support and as a support for the lighting bodies, but also for the connection of their electrical cables as well as for the inside passage of the supply cable between a module and the other one.

Modules can be installed individually or be connected among each other by a perforated joint made of extruded aluminium that allows to obtain on line, 90°, T-shaped and cross-shaped solutions in order to follow and to sketch several pathways depending on the available architectonic space.

Ristorante Giordano Bruno

Il Giordano Bruno nasce nel 2001 dalla volontà del proprietario e dalla mia di trasformare una vecchia capanna in un locale in armonia con la Darsena Viareggina e la natura circostante. Luogo d’incontro a ridosso della pineta, con le Apuane alle spalle e davanti lo smisurato orizzonte del Tirreno dove l’estate, la luce ed i profumi entrano e si mescolano liberamente, il Giordano Bruno ha voluto essere per me un omaggio al mare e all’amore per quei luoghi dove spesso mi rifugiavo nei momenti di pausa fra un set cinematografico e l’altro. Lo spazio è strutturato sul concetto della scatola, apribile d’estate alla luce su ogni lato utilizzando grandi scorrevoli, tagli di vetro.

Una scatola-scultura realizzata utilizzando materiali poveri, ossuti come fossero straccati dal mare. Il vuoto interno è riempito con grandi scaffalature che fanno da sostegno al corpo centrale della struttura; una zona salotto taglia la sala per ospitare gli ultimi attimi di una serata. Calchi pesanti di gesso alle pareti, come impronte sulla sabbia, come formine fatte da uominibambini. L’unicità di pochi elementi esalta e riempie il vuoto; il bianco come colore domina sul tutto, come una nuvola nel cielo di settembre.

Anche il cliente più assorto non può rimanere indifferente alle emozioni luminose e alla maestosità dei grandi tavoli ”scultura”: un tavolo quadrato 2,5 x 2,5, ricoperto da migliaia di pagine di vocabolario ingiallito al sole e un tavolo di 4 m, posto nella sala principale, caratterizzato da un importante spessore e da scanalature sul piano, come fosse una pesante lastra di marmo delle vicine Apuane. Sulla terrazza, legate a tronchi rubati al mare, le vele bianche si muovono al vento come l’improvvisata tenda di un viaggiatore di passaggio che ha sospeso il suo cammino per poter sentire il profumo del mare.

Nel restyling effettuato nel 2008, oltre ad alcune modifiche interne e di scaffalature, è stata ripensata l’illuminazione, specie quella dei tavoli, utilizzando i modelli Nuvole Vagabonde a sospensione e da terra e il modello Margherita sospeso sul grande tavolo quadrato.

The Giordano Bruno restaurant was open in 2001 of its owner’s and my own will to transform an old hut into a restaurant that matches with Viareggio Wet Dock and the nearby nature.

It is a meeting place close to the pinewood, with the Apuan Alps behind and opposite the unbounded horizon of the Tyrrhenian sea where Summer, light and smells enter and mix freely; to me Giordano Bruno meant to be a tribute to the sea and the love for those places where I often took refuge during the breaks between a film set and an other.

This space is organized upon the box idea: it is possible to open it in the Summer, by the light on each side by using big sliding glass cuts.

It is a box-sculpture that is made by making use of poor materials that are bony as if they were pulled off the sea.

The inside empty space is filled with big shelves that support the central body of the structure; a living area crosses the room to host the latest minutes of the evening. Heavy plaster casts on the walls, like footprints on the sand, like little moulds made by men-children.

The uniqueness of few elements praises and fills the empty space; white as a colour prevailing on anything, like a cloud in the September sky.

Even the most absorbed customer cannot be indifferent to brilliant emotions and to the magnificence of big “sculpture” tables: a square 2.5 x 2.5 table covered with thousands of pages of a dictionary turned yellow with the sun and a 4 m table, placed in the main hall and characterised by a considerable thickness and with grooves on the surface, as if it was a heavy marble slab from the nearby Apuan Alps.

On the terrace, tied to trunks stolen from the sea, the white sails move themselves in the wind like an improvised tent of a passing by traveller who stopped his journey to smell the sea scent.

During the restyling carried out in 2008, together with some changes inside and to the shelves, the lighting was reviewed, the one of the tables in particular, using the Nuvole Vagabonde hanging and standing patterns as well as the Margherita pattern hanging on the big square table.

I corpi illuminanti a luce diffusa utilizzati per illuminare il grande tavolo quadrato, il bancone bar, il tavolo rettangolare della sala principale e le altre zone vicino ai piccoli tavoli in legno laccato bianco sono i modelli NUVOLE VAGABONDE e MARGHERITA. Sono lampade a sospensione, sostenute da cavi in acciaio, disponibili in tre diametri diversi cm 160-110-40. La stessa serie comprende anche lampade da terra e da tavolo con base di diversa altezza in metallo cromato.

Il diffusore, elemento caratterizzante dell’intera serie, è formato da elementi termoformati sovrapposti in metacrilato opal bianco e in policarbonato stampato nella versione di Ø 40 fissati ad una struttura ad anelli in metallo cromato o verniciato tramite particolari incastri nel materiale.

Il modello MARGHERITA, sospeso con cavi in acciaio, è formata da un anello in metallo cromato a cui vengono fissati con particolari pomelli i diffusori in metacrilato opal bianco termoformati, uno sopra l’altro, e da un telaio interno a cui viene ancorato un disco diffusore in metacrilato opal bianco o nel colore giallo, in modo da schermare le sorgenti di luce ad alogeni o fluorescenti.

L’apparecchio, pur garantendo una adeguata illuminazione dei piani di lavoro, per il particolare materiale utilizzato per il diffusore produce anche una luce diffusa in tutto l’ambiente che non disturba l’intimità del locale e riesce a creare un’atmosfera suggestiva.

The illuminating bodies with diffuse lighting used to illuminate the big and square table, the pub counter, the rectangular table of the main hall as well as the other areas close to the small tables made of white lacquered wood, these are the new NUVOLE VAGABONDE and MARGHERITA models.

They are swinging lamps, supported by steel cables, and are available in three different diameters: cm 160-110-40. The same series also includes standing lamps and reading lamps with a base of different height made of chromium-plated metal.

The diffuser, the element characterising the whole series, consists of thermoformed elements laid one on the top of the other and made of white opal methacrylate and polycarbonate that are fixed to a ring structure made of chromium-plated or painted metal by means of special joints into the material.

The MARGHERITA model, consists of a ring made of chromium-plated metal the thermoformed diffusers made of white opal methacrylate are fixed to by means of special knobs, one on top of the other.

This device, even tough it ensures an appropriated lighting for work surfaces, also gives a diffuse light to the whole room, thanks to the special material that is used; this light does not intrude the intimacy of the room and succeeds in creating a charming atmosphere.

L’architettura capace di generare un ordine nello sviluppo della città sembra essere un filo conduttore nell’esperienza del gruppo di lavoro Severini Associati & Partners. In questa logica vanno letti molti dei loro progetti come il recupero dell’area Staveco di Bologna, area a ridosso del centro storico della città, la nuova cittadella ad Ancona ed altri ancora.

Nell’attività rivolta verso il mercato privato recente è la collaborazione con il gruppo Giometti Cinema, capofila della distribuzione cinematografica, per il quale è stato inaugurato un nuovo prototipo di multisala rispondente all’idea di un contenitore dove il cinema ritrova la dimensione artistica anche nella fase ultima della proiezione. Ecco allora la necessità di creare Multiplex in cui l’impostazione progettuale e l’immagine devono fare riferimento a quelle proprie di uno spazio culturale, un punto d’incontro dove è possibile ospitare eventi, manifestazioni culturali o convegni.

In contrapposizione ai contenitori che si rifanno per lo più ad immagini tipiche dei grandi centri commerciali, dove il colore, il ritmo compositivo, la comunicazione risultano essere incessanti, si prefigura l’idea di spazi luminosi, percorsi che si susseguono con visuali di tipo museale e che accompagnano il visitatore fino alle sale di proiezione. E‘ proprio su questi presupposti concettuali che nasce la collaborazione con Martinelli Luce. Nelle sale di proiezione il richiamo alla tecnologia ha trovato naturale soluzione nell’uso della barra ZK, degli Spottò/B e dei Brick, corpi illuminanti che, oltre ad avere un design accattivante, soddisfano la necessità funzionale di poter graduare il livello della illuminazione a seconda dell’uso della sala, fasi cinematografiche, attività convegnistica ecc. La caratterizzazione degli spazi di relazione dove troviamo librerie, allestimenti vari, mostre… è invece affidata alla “Nuvola” di Martinelli. La presenza scenica di tale oggetto di design è notevole. Non si tratta di un corpo illuminante che si inserisce nell’architettura, è di fatto una componente dello spazio architettonico.

The guiding thread of the experience of the Severini Associati & Partners working group seems to be the architecture that is able to engender an order in developing the city.

Most of their projects have to be interpreted from this point of view: it is the case of the reclamation of the Staveco area in Bologna, an area close to the old town center of the city, of the new fortress in Ancona and of many others. The private market-oriented activity counts the recent cooperation with the Giometti Cinemas group, the leader of the film distribution: for it, a new prototype of multi-screen cinema was open and met the idea of a container where the cinema finds again its artistic dimension even during the final step, the projection.

That is why it is necessary to create a Multiplex where its planning and its image have to make reference to those of a cultural space, a meeting point where it is possibile to hold events, cultural events or congresses.

It announces the idea of bright spaces, of pathways that pass one after the other with museum views and that follow the visitor till the projection rooms, in contrast with containers that mostly draw on typical images of big trade centers where colour, composition rythm and communication end up being incessant.

The collaboration with Martinelli Luce is actually based upon these conceptual assumptions. In projection rooms the call for technology found its natural solution in the use of ZK bar, of Spottò/B and of Brick, some illuminating bodies that not only have a winning design, but they also meet the functional need to graduate the lighting level depending on the use of the room, on the film steps, on the congress activities and so on.

The characterization of the relation spaces, where we find book shops, different fittings, exhibitions... is entrusted instead to “Nuvola”

This design article has a remarkable stage presence. It is not an illuminating body that becomes a part of architecture, it is actually a component of the architectonic space.

Per l’illuminazione delle sale è stato utilizzato un apparecchio da parete mod 1396 del sistema BRICK a emissione di luce monodirezionale, diretta e orientabile, che utilizza una lampada ad alogeni 75W AR111.

Il sistema BRICK comprende apparecchi di diverse tipologie: da parete fissi o orientabili con vari tipi di supporto di attacco; da soffitto, orientabili con tige snodata; con attacco a morsetto girevole da fissare alle nostre barre ZK-ZY; con particolare adattatore per binario elettrificato a 230V; a sospensione con cavi in acciaio; da terra in due versioni, con base e braccio orientabile e girevole o con base fissa e faretti snodati.

L’emissione di luce è diretta e orientabile, singola, doppia o per quattro lampade ad alogeni, ioduri metallici, a led bianchi o RGB .

La struttura è in estruso di alluminio verniciato nel colore bianco o argento Tutto il sistema è cablato e completo di alimentatori elettronici.

Per l’illuminazione dell’ingresso della multisala è stato scelto l’apparecchio 2011 NUVOLE VAGABONDE, a luce diffusa una lampada di grande presenza, del diametro cm 160, cablata per lampade a ioduri metallici 2 x 150W CDM-TP PGX12.2.

La struttura è formata da anelli concentrici in metallo cromato a cui vengono ancorati tramite particolari incastri gli elementi termoformati di diametro cm 50 in metacrilato opal bianco. Le tigi per l’attacco della lampada sono lunghe cm 200 e sono assemblate al disco superiore in metallo completo di gruppo elettrico, da fissare al soffitto.

A device mod. 1396 of the BRICK system was used to illuminate the halls; it was a bracket device, with single direct and adjustable light emission for 75W AR 111 halogen lamp.

This system includes a series of devices of different typologies: fixed or adjustable bracket ones; those with different attachment supports; adjustable ceiling ones with articulated stems; those with revolving clamp attachment to be fixed to our ZK-ZY bars; those with a special adapter for the 230V electrified track; the swinging ones with steel cables; the standing ones in two versions: with base and with an adjustable and revolving arm or with fixed base and articulated spotlights.

The light emission may be single or double direct and adjustable or for four halogen lamps with metal iodides or with white LEDs or RGB. The frame is made of white or silver painted aluminium extrusion. The whole system is wired and equipped with electronic feeders.

The model 2011 NUVOLE VAGABONDE has been chosen to illuminate the entrance of the multiplex; it is a lamp with an important appearance, with a cm 160 diameter, with diffuse light, wired for metal iodide lamps 2 x 150W CDM-TP PGX12.2.

Its frame consists of concentric rings made of chromium plated metal; several thermoformed elements with a cm 50 diameter and made of white opal methacrylate, are fixed to it by means of special joints.

The stems to fix the lamp are cm 200 long and are assembled to the upper disk made of metal and equipped with an electric unit to be fixed to the wall.
