I 50 anni di una lampada così importante per la Martinelli Luce come il Cobra disegnato dal suo fondatore Elio Martinelli rappresenta certamente un evento importante per l’azienda. Per celebrare questo evento ho pensato prima di tutto ad un nuovo colore, il Rosso Lacca: un colore brillante, simbolo di fuoco, di gioia, di forza, di amore, di luce, carico di emozione... proprio per caratterizzarne ancora di più la forte personalità!

In passato, negli anni ‘70, Cobra era stato già proposto in colori vivaci come giallo, arancio e rosso ma in una tonalità più aranciata. Quindi quasi un revival per ricordare dopo 50 anni una lampada che esprime a pieno la filosofia progettuale della Martinelli Luce: semplicità, rigore, tecnologia, ergonomicità. Una lampada ancora in catalogo e sempre più attuale, anche se ci sono voluti diversi anni affinché ne venisse apprezzato il design assolutamente innovativo pur nel suo semplice rigore formale e la sua presenza in alcuni noti film ne è una ulteriore dimostrazione.

Ma non è tutto: perché non giocare ancora di più con il colore e perché non farlo interpretare da altri designer. Un omaggio da parte di tutti loro ad Elio Martinelli che ha disegnato Cobra nel lontano 1968, una lampada avveniristica per quel periodo.

Ho quindi invitato i designers che collaborano con Martinelli Luce da diversi anni e alcuni amici ad una rivisitazione della lampada Cobra attraverso la realizzazione di una texture grafica da applicare sulla lampada. L’adesione al progetto è stata entusiasta ed unanime e presentiamo in questo catalogo le 23 realizzazioni che verranno prodotte, ciascuna in trenta esemplari, firmate e numerate, più tre prove d’autore.

The 50-year anniversary of such an important lamp for Martinelli Luce as the Cobra designed by its founder Elio Martinelli certainly represents a major event for the company. To celebrate this recurrence, I first of all thought of a new color, Lacquer Red: a brilliant color, symbol of fire, joy, love, light, a color charged with emotions, to underscore the lamp’s strong personality even further!

In the past, in the 1970s, Cobra had already been proposed in lively, bright colors such as yellow, orange and in a more orangey shade of red. So this is almost a revival to remember, 50 years later, a lamp that fully expresses the design philosophy of Martinelli Luce: simplicity, rigor, technology, ergonomics.

A lamp still today present in the catalogue and always current, although several years were needed for the totally innovative albeit simple formal rigor of its design to be appreciated, and its presence in some famous films is a further demonstration of its renown.

But that’s not all: why not play with the color even more and have other designers interpret it? A tribute from all of them to Elio Martinelli who designed Cobra back in 1968 – a futuristic lamp for the time.

So I invited the designers who have been collaborating with Martinelli Luce for several years and also some friends for a revisitation of Cobra by creating a graphic texture to apply to the lamp itself. Participation to the project was enthusiastic and unanimous and in this catalogue, we are presenting the 23 creations that will be produced, each in thirty pieces, signed and numbered, plus three craftsman proofs.

Niccolò Adolini e Daniel Simonini, dopo distinte esperienze di collaborazione maturate presso i più prestigiosi studi di design milanesi (Piero Lissoni, Ferruccio Laviani, Palomba Serafini) si incontrano nel 2011 presso lo studio Dordoni, da dove escono entrambi l’anno successivo per fondare Adolini+Simonini. Con sede a Milano e San Paolo lo studio si occupa di product/graphic design, attualmente collabora con importanti aziende italiane e brasiliane.

Niccolò Adolini and Daniel Simonini, after important work experiences developed together at the most prestigious design studios in Milan ( Piero Lissoni, Ferruccio Laviani, Palomba Serafini) meet in 2011 at Studio Dordoni, and the following year establish Adolini+Simonini. Skin, prende spunto dal nome “COBRA“. Abbiamo voluto reinterpretare il segno grafico della pelle di serpente in maniera contemporanea e digitale, quasi astratta, in grado di donare al corpo della lampada un movimento organico. Questa nuova pattern fonde segni grafici anni 60 a tratti presenti in natura e nella vita quotidiana.

“Skin” draws inspiration from the name “COBRA”. We tried to reinterpret the graphic image of snakeskin in a contemporary and digital – almost abstract – way that could confer an organic movement to the body of the lamp. This new pattern combines graphic images from the 1960s with traits present in nature and in everyday life.

Area-17 è uno studio di architettura e design d’interni la cui filosofia progettuale è profondamente radicata nella cultura del design italiano. L’obiettivo dello studio è realizzare per i suoi clienti soluzioni innovative che soddisfino esigenze emozionali, estetiche, operative e di comunicazione, attraverso un processo creativo inclusivo. Il concetto da cui parte la proposta è la reinterpretazione della forma geometrica pura, elemento caratterizzante della lampada Cobra originale e tratto distintivo dell’intera produzione di Elio Martinelli. Il pattern optical a righe bianche e nere reinterpreta la forma attraverso il contrasto geometrico e al tempo stesso rende omaggio all’estetica degli anni Sessanta, in cui il progetto affonda le sue radici. Le 50 righe scandiscono anche con esattezza gli anni di cui si celebra la ricorrenza ed esplodono in un packaging coordinato che rafforza l’idea di esclusività della riedizione.

The concept at the base of the proposal is the reinterpretation of the pure geometric shape, the characterizing element of the original Cobra lamp and distinctive trait of Elio Martinelli’s entire production. The optical pattern with black & white lines reinterprets form through geometric contrast and at the same time pays tribute to the aesthetics of the 1960s, the period in which the project sinks its roots. The 50 lines also precisely mark the anniversary we are celebrating and explode in a coordinated packaging that strengthens the idea of exclusivity of the re-edition.

Luisa Bocchietto

Architetto e designer, laureata al Politecnico di Milano, diplomata contemporaneamente presso IED, Istituto Europeo di Design di Milano, lavora con proprio studio a Biella. Nel campo dell’architettura ha realizzato progetti di recupero urbano, ristrutturazione edilizia, urbanistica. Nel campo del design ha lavorato come art director per aziende del settore del mobile e come visiting professor con università e scuole di design. Ha scritto testi di architettura e design e realizzato conferenze in Italia ed all’estero. I suoi progetti e prodotti sono stati pubblicati da molte riviste del settore. Autrice di “Abitare nel Biellese”, della Mostra “DcomeDesign” per la valorizzazione del design femminile, del catalogo e mostra “POP Design” al Filatoio di Caraglio e dell’allestimento di alcune mostre del Compasso d’Oro all’estero (Bruxelles 2014, Lima, Bogotà 2015). E’ stata curatore scientifico della Design Week di Torino “Torino Design of the City 2017”. A fianco della attività professionale è stata presidente dell’Ordine degli Architetti di Biella, della Delegazione Piemonte Valle d’Aosta dell’ADI e parte del Comitato Promotore di Torino World Design Capital nel 2008, componente del Consiglio Italiano del Design (Ministero per i Beni Culturali), dello CNACC Centro Nazionale Anticontraffazione, Vicepresidente del Polidesign e membro fondatore del Centro italo-cinese CIDIC. Dal 2008 al 2014 è stata Presidente dell’ADI - Associazione per il Disegno Industriale. Dal 2013 è membro del Board di WDO – World Design Organization (ex ICSID). Attualmente è Presidente in carica di WDO per il biennio 2017/2019.

Architect ad designer, she graduated from Politecnico Milano University, and simultaneously from the IED, European Design Institute in Milan. She currently works in her own studio in Biella. In the field of architecture, she has designed urban regeneration, building renovation and urban planning projects. In the realm of design, she has worked as art director for companies involved in the field of furniture and as visiting professor with design schools and universities. She has published texts on architecture and design and held conferences in Italy and abroad. Her projects and products have been published by many trade magazines. She is author of “Abitare nel Biellese”, of the “DcomeDesign” Exhibition to highlight women in the world of design, of the catalog and exhibition entitled “POP Design” at Filatoio di Caraglio and of the organization of exhibitions of the Compasso d’Oro abroad (Brussels 2014, Lima, Bogotà 2015). She was scientific curator of Turin’s Design Week di Torino “Torino Design of the City 2017”. mTogether with her professional activity, she was President of the Register of Architects of Biella, of the Piemonte Valle d’Aosta delegation of the ADI (Italian Association of Design) and was a member of the Promoter Committee of Torino World Design Capital in 2008, a component of the Italian Design Council (Ministry for Cultural Heritage), of the CNACC National Anti-Counterfeiting Center), Vice President of Polidesign and founding member of the CIDIC Italian-Chinese Center. Nei 50 anni di Cobra, una ricorrenza che riporta l’attenzione su questa lampada storica, la mia proposta di decorazione per vestirla vuole essere una riflessione personale sul mio lavoro di progettista. Lux on Pantheon è una luce che si accende sui miei dei: l’architettura e il design, vissuti attraverso la mente, i sensi, il cuore. L’architettura è armonia, la vista è il senso più coinvolto; è realmente musica per i miei occhi. Il design è tatto sotto la luce, è contatto fisico che scalda il mio cuore. Ho voluto usare l’oculo del Pantheon come simbolo che unisce l’occhio e la luce. Sul piatto si illumina un dettaglio della pavimentazione del Pantheon, un punto dove luce, materia fisica e disegno s’incontrano per generare una bellezza senza età.

For Cobra’s 50-year celebration – an anniversary that draws attention back to this historic lamp – my decoration proposal to dress it up is intended as a personal reflection on my work as a designer. Lux on Pantheon is a light turned on to my gods – architecture and design – experienced through the mind, the senses, the heart. Architecture is harmony, sight being the sense that is most involved; it is literally music to my eyes. Design is touch under the light, it is physical contact that warms my heart. I used the oculus of the Pantheon as the symbol that unites the eye and the light. On the base plate, a detail of the floor of the Pantheon is illuminated: a point where light, physical matter and design meet to create an ageless beauty.

Michel Boucquillon

Nato nell’1962 in Belgio, è laureato nell’1986 in Architettura a St. Luc Bruxelles, poi lavora due anni a Firenze. Nell’1988, a 26 anni, vince il concorso di Architettura per l’Emiciclo dell’Parlamento Europeo di Bruxelles. Per questo palazzo, disegnerà anche l’arredamento, la passione per il design industriale nasce a quest’occasione. Nell’ 2000 apre un secondo studio a Lucca dedicato al product-design nella sua “CASA-STUDIO BOUCQUILLON”, luogo di sperimentazione, di meditazione e di lavoro. Oggi lavora per clienti esclusivi in Architettura mentre in product design lavora con le ditte più famose come ALESSI, ARTEMIDE, ANTONIOLUPI, AQUAMASS, AUERHAHN, MARTINELLILUCE, NESTLE, SERRALUNGA, TECNO, TECHNOLUX, VALLI ARREDOBAGNO, VCR, VALLI&VALLI. Ha vinto numerosi premi in Architettura ed in Design mentre i suoi progetti di design sono esposti in altri numerosi musei e gallerie internazionali.

Michel Boucquillon is born in Belgium in 1962 from a Belgian father and German mother. He was graduated in Architecture at Saint-Luc in Brussels in 1986. Then worked for two years in Florence. In 1988, aged 26, he won the Architectural competition of the Chamber of the European Parliament in Brussels which signed the beginning of his Architectural and design career. In ‘2000, he opened a second workshop dedicated to Industrial Design products and experimental Architecture in Lucca - Tuscany in his Home and office “CASA BOUCQUILLON” where he lives with his wife DONIA MAAOUI and their two daughters. Michel actually works for exclusive Clients in Architecture and the world most famous international Design companies as ALESSI, ARTEMIDE, ANTONIOLUPI, AQUAMASS, AUERHAHN, MARTINELLILUCE, NESTLE, SERRALUNGA, TECNO, TECHNOLUX, VALLI ARREDOBAGNO, VALLI&VALLI. He won many international awards and his design creations are exposed in many design museums all over the world.

Giorgio Brogi

Giorgio Brogi ricopre i ruoli normalmente distinti di artista, comunicatore e ideatore di progetti. L’artista opera nel punto d’incontro tra discipline diverse come pittura, installazione, video e design. Partecipa giovanissimo gli ambienti underground della sperimentazione italiana ed internazionale, da cui le due personali a New York alla Denise Bibro Fine Art, catturando l’attenzione del New York Times. Tra le attività più recenti: il progetto “Fuori sequenza” presentato a Parigi al Centre d’Art et d’Essais du Mercedes-Benz, a La Maison Rouge ed alla Fondazione AT Kearney. L’installazione performatica “Ba Ba”, realizzata con la Compagnia Teatrale Piccoli Principi, è alla Biennale d’Art Contemporain de Lyon. Presenta “Out of sync” a New York all’Italian Academy at Columbia University. Il successo di Ba Ba lo porta a Palazzo Reale ed al MADRE, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Donna Regina a Napoli, al Centre Culturel et Artistique di Aubusson, alla Neue Söchsische Galerie di Chemnitz ed al Centre Culturel, Youi Le Moutier. “Ba Ba” viene presentato anche al Castello di Rivoli, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea. Alla Galleria Artra di Milano presenta la video-pittura-ambientale “Save the tought” ed alla collettiva “Venduto 2”.

Giorgio A Lucca, negliBrogi spazi di Villa Bottini, presenta l’ allestimento di pittura digitale e video “Un passo indietro”. E’ la volta di “Rumore Bianco” al MUSA, Museo Virtuale della Scultura e Architettura di Pietrasanta con una video installazione e pittura che dialoga con il territorio. Uno Il bianco è rumore! degli ultimi progetti è l’installazione al Castello Ginori di Querceto “Cogliere i segnali”.

Giorgio Brogi covers the roles normally classified as artist, communicator and creator of projects. The artist works in the point of encounter among various disciplines like painting, installation, video and design. At a very young age he frequented the underground environments of Italian and international experimentation, which gave rise to two one-man shows in New York at the Denise Bibro Fine Art gallery, where he captured the attention of the New York Times. Among his most recent projects, “Fuori sequenza (Out of sync)” was presented in Paris at the Centre d’Art et d’Essais du Mercedes-Benz, at La Maison Rouge the Fondazione AT Kearney. His performative installation “Ba Ba” was carried out with the Piccoli Principi Theatre Company and exhibited at the Biennale d’Art Contemporain de Lyon. He presented “Out of sync” in New York at the Italian Academy of the Columbia University. The success of Ba Ba took him to Palazzo Reale and the MADRE, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Donna Regina in Naples, the Centre Culturel et Artistique di Aubusson, the Neue Söchsische Galerie of Chemnitz and the Centre Culturel, Youi Le Moutier. “Ba Ba” has also exhibited at the Castello di Rivoli, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea.

He presented the environmental-video-painting at the Galleria Artra in Milan and at the “Venduto 2” collective art show. He presented his digital painting installation and video “Un passo indietro (A step backwards)” at Villa Bottini, Lucca. Then it was the turn of “Rumore Bianco (White noise)”, on display at the MUSA, Museo Virtuale della Scultura e Architettura di Pietrasanta with a video installation and painting that converses with the territory. One of his most recent projects has been the installation called “Cogliere i segnali (Grasp the signs)” in the Ginori Castle of Querceto.

Il bianco è rumore Il bianco, che contraddistingue non solo la lampada Cobra ma l’intera produzione Martinelli Luce è anche il colore che ispira il mio lavoro, probabilmente anche perché la collaborazione con Elio Martinelli, iniziata negli anni della mia formazione, ha lasciato un segno. Il rumore; vibrazione di un segno narrativo, espressione di un gesto progettuale, affidato a piccoli segni che generano energia.

White is noise White, which distinguishes not only the Cobra lamp but rather, the entire Martinelli Luce production, is also the colour that inspires my work, probably because my collaboration with Elio Martinelli, which began during my formative years, has left its mark. Noise; the vibration of a narrative sign, the expression of a design gesture, entrusted to tiny signs that generate energy.

Massimo Farinatti

Laureato in architettura con il professor Marco Zanuso, quando ancora la sua cattedra si chiamava “Progettazione artistica per l’industria”, Massimo Farinatti ha iniziato il suo percorso professionale durante gli studi, operando come freelance presso studi ed atelier di spicco della realtà creativa milanese. Nel tempo, ha focalizzato la sua attività sull’architettura d’interni e sull’industrial design, collaborando con le maggiori aziende del settore per dar vita nuove tipologie di prodotto, così come a nuovi modi di vivere l’ambiente. Ha insegnato Industrial Design presso l’International College of Design and Arts, la Camera della Moda, la Scuola Politecnica di Design, il Politecnico di Milano, dove collabora attualmente come Cultore della Materia. Dal 1983 è socio ADI dove, negli anni, ha ricoperto diversi incarichi. Ha ricevuto numerosi premi e riconoscimenti come Red Dot Award, Compasso d’Oro Internazionale, ADI Design Index, Japan Design Prize. I suoi lavori declinano aspirazioni e desideri dei clienti in progetti sostenuti da una rigorosa base metodologica e da una solida visione di risorse e tecnologie disponibili, dando vita a prodotti destinati a durare nel tempo.

Massimo Farinatti graduated in architecture under Professor Marco Zanuso, when his department was called “Artistic Design for Industry.” He began his professional career during his studies by working as a freelancer for prestigious creative studios and ateliers in Milan. In the course of time, he has centered his activity on internal architecture, collaborating with the major companies in the field to give life to new types of products and new ways of living. He has taught Industrial Design at the International College of Design and Arts, at Camera della Moda, Scuola Politecnica di Design, and Politecnico di Milano, where he currently collaborates as Subject Matter Expert. He has been a member of ADI (Italian Association for Industrial Design) since 1983 where, in the course of the years, he has held various positions. He has received numerous awards and recognitions such as the Red Dot Award, Compasso d’Oro Internazionale, ADI Design Index, Japan Design Prize. His works embody the aspirations and desires of clients, yielding projects supported by a strict methodological base and by a solid vision of the available resources and technologies, giving rise to products destined to last over time.

Cobra è un’icona del design italiano, lo è divenuta anche grazie alla forma archetipica che rimanda a sinuose curve ed eleganti movenze. Nasce 50 anni fa, ne può raccontare di storia! Nasce quando l’arte psichedelica esprime il senso del viaggio introspettivo. Nasce quando Emilio Pucci con i suoi tessuti affascinava il mondo. Cobra is an icon of Italian design. It has become so also thanks to the archetypal form that recalls sinuous curves and elegant movement. It was born 50 years ago; it has a lot of history to tell! It was born when psychedelic art expressed the sense of an introspective journey. It was born when Emilio Pucci fascinated the world with his fabrics.

Alfonso Femia con Arthur Simony

Nato a Taurianova, Reggio Calabria il 7 Dicembre del 1966 vive “partendo e ritornando” a Genova in un viaggio unico e continuo tra Genova, Milano e Parigi. Laureato presso la Facoltà di Architettura dell’Università di Genova nel 1992 è Iscritto all’Ordine degli Architetti di Genova, dell’Île-de-France dal 1995 e degli Architetti Svizzeri. Ha insegnato Progettazione Architettonica alla Kent State University di Firenze, alla Facoltà di Architettura di Ferrara e di Genova. Fondatore di 5+1 nel 1995 crea 5+1AA nel 2005 e 5+1AA Parigi nel 2007. Vince numerosi concorsi internazionali ed è pubblicato in riviste internazionali. È visiting professor nelle principali università italiane e internazionali. Nel 2015 fonda 500×100 e crea 500x100Talk la città come strumento di dialogo, un luogo di incontro e confronto sul tema della città, strutturato in due format condotti con Giorgio Tartaro: il SetTalk a Milano e il CityTalk nelle principali città europee e mediterranee. Sviluppa una “ricerca intorno alla materia” che lo porta a collaborare per progetti di design con aziende internazionali e con AFdesign* sviluppa temi legati alla ceramica, alla luce, al legno, al vetro, al cartone e al cemento biodinamico. Lo sviluppo tridimensionale della ceramica e della sua applicazione all’architettura lo porta a sviluppare alcuni prodotti che caratterizzano i recenti interventi residenziali di Parigi e di Brescia e la nuova sede di BNL/BNP Paribas a Roma. Con l’artista Danilo Trogu e alla sua magica poetica, sviluppa un “bestiario mediterraneo” in ceramica, che anima i Docks di Marsiglia, le OGR di Torino e le residenze di Asnieres-sur-Seine a Parigi. Nel 2017 trasforma la denominazione di 5+1AA in AF517 ovvero Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia e crea “L’Entre Deux” un format di approfondimento sulla metamorfosi delle città. Ama i numeri dispari, il Sud e una ciurma di ragazze e ragazzi che dal 1995 crede in questo “viaggio” volto a esplorare e conoscere il mondo attraverso il progetto di architettura e l’incontro con le città, il tutto con il sorriso e una nuova compagna di viaggio “la balaena e la sua stella”. Born in Taurianova, Reggio Calabria, on December 7, 1966, Alfonso Femia lives “leaving from and returning to” Genoa in a continuous journey between this city, Milan and Paris. He graduated from the University of Genoa, School of Architecture in 1992 and has been a member of the Italian Register of Architects of Genoa since 1994, the Register of Architects of Île-de-France since 1995, and the Register of Architects of Switzerland since 2014. He has taught Architectural Design Didactics at Kent State University in Florence and at the Universities of Genoa and Ferrara Schools of Architecture. He founded 5+1 in 1995 and created 5+1AA in 2005 and the 5+1AA Parisian agency in 2007. He won several international competitions and has been featured in international magazines.

He is visiting professor in major Italian and international universities. In 2015 he founded 500×100 and created 500x100Talk, the city as a dialog tool, a place of meetings and exchanges on the theme of the city itself, structured in two formats conducted together with Giorgio Tartaro: the SetTalk in Milan and the CityTalk in the main European and Mediterranean cities. He develops a “research on matter” that leads him to collaborate in design projects with international companies and with AFdesign*; he develops themes tied to ceramic, to light, wood, glass, cardboard and biodynamic cement. The three-dimensional development of ceramic and its application in architecture yields products that characterize the recent residential complexes in Paris and Brescia and the new headquarters of the BNL/BNP Paribas in Rome. Together with artist Danilo Trogu and his magical poetics, he develops a “Mediterranean bestiary” in ceramic that animates the Marseille Docks, the OGR in Turin and the residential complex of Asnieres-sur-Seine in Paris. In 2017 he changes the name of 5+1AA in AF517, i.e. Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia and creates “L’Entre Deux”, a format for the in-depth analysis on the metamorphosis of the city. He loves odd numbers, the South and a whole crew of young men and women who since 1995 believe in this “journey” aimed at exploring and getting to know the world through architectural project and through meetings with the cities, all with a smile and with a new travel companion – “The Whale and Her Star”. A journey within a journey.

Arthur Simony è un uomo dolce e premuroso ma soprattutto appassionato. La sua storia comincia a Bruxelles all’età di 17 anni.

Simony inizia il suo lavoro con interventi di streetart che gli permettono di sviluppare e far crescere sua passione. Il suo segno è maturato gradualmente, con la formalizzazione del gesto. Arthur Simony orienta il suo lavoro sulla scrittura. La sua poetica utilizza infatti la parola e il racconto, come elemento espressivo. La parola è più che un’ispirazione, è il suo modo di liberarsi dalle sofferenze e di accedere a una nuova via verso la felicità. In questo modo, Simony utilizza una frase, o talvolta una sola parola per creare opere forti e poetiche.

Arthur Simony is a thoughtful, soft-spoken man. But above all, he is impassioned. His story begins in Brussels at the age of 17. Simony begins working with Street Art interventions that allow him to develop and grow his passion. His stroke has matured gradually with the formalization of the gesture. Arthur Simony orients his work on writing. His poetics use the word and the story as expressive element. The word is more than an inspiration: it is his way of freeing himself form pain and suffering, accessing a new road toward happiness. In this way, Simony uses a phrase or sometimes just one word to create strong and poetic works.

Amore, Realismo, Immaginario. 3 vortici per la Cobra. La scrittura, le parole, spesso libere e/o sole, la loro composizione a poesia, a testo sono uno dei mondi che mi accompagna anno dopo anno in una esplorazione profonda di come una sola parola celi, nasconda, rivela mondi diversi per ognuno di noi, ma mondi che ci mettono in contatto gli uni con gli altri. La scrittura e le parole oggi non sono gli elementi dove ci si sofferma maggiormente, ma occorre farlo, occorre fermarsi e farlo. Ho conosciuto Arthur Simony, casualmente, grazie a Antoine Vernholes, in una bellissima serata tra amici a Parigi. Il suo lavoro mi ha subito colpito per la apparente semplicità e la sua profondità in ogni gesto che costruisce ogni parola. La mano è ciò che è più vicino al nostro cuore e che viene guidata da un dialogo istantaneo tra mente e anima. La mano quando scrive, o scrive disegnando, apre porte in immaginari e realtà che si fondono e si confondono, che ci guidano e ci disorientano, che ci accompagnano nel mondo. Emiliana Martinelli mi ha gentilmente invitato per questa importante ricorrenza a far parte di una famiglia per pensare una personale rivisitazione della Cobra. Ho subito ritenuto che il tema non poteva essere soltanto grafico, cromatico…, occorreva legarsi agli stessi argomenti che la Cobra suggerisce, un mondo, un mappamondo, un movimento, una rotazione, una specie di vortice, una relazione con chi la usa. Allora ho pensato che tre parole, amore, realismo, immaginario, tre parole che mi appartengono come percorso ma che appartengono a molti, potessero creare dei vortici grazie alla mano di Arthur, e accompagnarci con la Cobra, nel nostro intimo segreto, nel nostro immaginario, nel nostro reale di amore.

Love, Realism, Imagination. 3 vortices for Cobra. Writing, words – often free-standing and/or alone – their composition into poetry, into a text, are one of the worlds that accompany me year after year in a deep exploration of how just one word caches, hides, reveals different worlds for each one of us, worlds that nonetheless put us into contact with others. Today, writing and words are not the elements we linger on most. But we must do so. We must stop and do so. I met Arthur Simony by chance thanks to Antoine Vernholes during a wonderful night among friends in Paris. His work immediately struck me for its apparent simplicity and the depth of every gesture that goes into building each word. The hand is the part of the body closest to our heart and it is guided by an instantaneous dialogue between the mind and the soul. When it writes, or when it writes by drawing, the hand opens doors into imaginaries and realities that mingle and merge, that guide and disorient us, that accompany us in the world. Emiliana Martinelli kindly invited me for this important event to be part of a family, to think about a personal revisitation for the Cobra.

I immediately thought that the theme had to be something more than just graphic, chromatic…, there had to be a tie with the very same topics that the Cobra suggests – a world, a globe, a movement, a rotation, a sort of vortex, a relationship with its user. So three words came to mind: love, realism, imaginary. These three words have always been part of my life but they belong to many people, too, and I thought they could create vortices thanks to the hands of Arthur, and accompany us with the Cobra into our secret soul, into our imagination, into our reality of love.

Marco Ghilarducci

Marco è il nipote di Elio Martinelli, fondatore della Martinelli Luce, e dal 2000 è attivo nell’azienda seguendo il settore commerciale e gestionale. Nato a Lucca nel 1975 dopo gli studi liceali si è iscritto alla Facoltà di Ingegneria a Pisa dove ha conseguito il diploma di Laurea in Ingegneria Logistica e della Produzione con indirizzo Qualità - ISO 9000 -. Appassionato di informatica fin da piccolo ha continuato questo suo interesse applicandolo sia nel privato che nel campo lavorativo, accumulando sempre più esperienza nel settore, specie riguardo ai software per la progettazione CAD e di Rendering, In seguito ha rivolto il suo interesse anche verso programmi ad uso gestionale. Marco è uno sportivo, dinamico e razionale ma è anche un creativo, mix che lo ha portato a progettare una lampada da tavolo, la TX1 presente nel catalogo dell’azienda da alcuni anni, che utilizza una sorgente di luce a LED integrata con comando remoto o con dispositivo Apple bluetooth. Oggi Marco è alla conduzione della Martinelli Luce in qualità di Consigliere Delegato insieme a sua madre Emiliana, presidente dell’azienda.

Marco is the grandson of the founder of Martinelli Luce and since 2000, he has been involved in the company, following the sales and management aspect. Born in Lucca in 1975, he attended the Engineering Faculty at Pisa University and graduated with a degree in Logistics and Production Engineering with a specialization in ISO 9000 Quality. A computer enthusiast since he was little, he has pursued this interest applying it both privately and professionally. Through the years, he has accumulated experience in this field, in particular using CAD design and rendering programs. Later, his interest also turned to specific management programs. Marco is a sportsman; he is dynamic and rational but also creative – so much so that he designed a table lamp, the TX1, that uses an integrated LED light source with remote control or with Apple bluetooth device, present in the corporate catalogue for some years.

Today, in his position as Managing Director, he is at the helm of the company together with his mother Emiliana Martinelli, President.

Alessandro Guerriero

Alessandro Guerriero nasce a Milano nel 43. Il suo lavoro si è impostato progressivamente dalla materializzazione di immagini alla realizzazione di sistemi ambientali. L’individuazione degli attuali obiettivi, metodi, strategie, mezzi, ambiti di intervento, collaboratori, riferimenti filosofici avviene attraverso un procedimento mentale e fisico di intervento sulle strutture di produzione. In una prima fase fa l’ipotesi della costruzione teorica e pratica di un nuovo universo oggettuale dell’abitazione. Successivamente il suo intervento si allarga coinvolgendo diverse attività dell’espressione: teatro, azione scenografia, musica, pittura, decorazione. Parallelamente nasce l’esigenza di individuare le tendenze dominanti per le immagini e gli oggetti del futuro: i suoi interventi si concentrano così sulla definizione teorica di metodi di progettazione arbitrari centrati su un approccio psicologico e di superficie. Ecco allora il lavoro sul banale, il redesign, l’estensione infinita del progetto, le situazioni ambientali effimere, gli scenari complessi dell’universo abitativo, l’arredo vestitivo, l’architettura ermafrodita, i segreti diabolici……

Alessandro Guerriero was born in Milan in 1943. He developed his work progressively from the materialization of images to the creation of environmental systems. The identification of current goals, methods, strategies, means, scenarios of intervention, collaborators, philosophical references takes place through a mental and physical procedure of intervention on the production structures.

In an initial phase, he hypothesizes the theoretical and practical construction of a new object-oriented ambience of the dwelling.

Then his intervention broadens to involve different activities of expression: the theater, scenic design, music, painting, decoration.

In parallel, the need to identify the dominant trends for the images and the objects of the future is born: his interventions thus focus on the theoretical definition of arbitrary design methods centered on a psychological approach and on an approach to the surface.

And so comes the work on the banal, the redesign, the infinite extension of the project, the fleeting environmental situations, the complex scenarios of the dwelling universe, furnishings as clothes, hermaphroditic architecture, “segreti diabolici”……

Donia Maaoui

Donia Maaoui è nata a Bruxelles (Belgio) nel 1967 di madre belga e padre tunisino. A sette anni i suoi genitori decidono di lasciare la Tunisia per stabilirsi in Belgio a Bruxelles. Tutti gli anni che seguono, tutte le vacanze scolastiche, sola in aereo, Donia troverà la sua cara famiglia a Cartagine. A 17 anni, in parallelo a i suoi studi, Donia diventa modella e sfilerà a Bruxelles per le più grandi marche di alta moda. Nel 1993 si laurea in Architettura a Bruxelles. Successivamente lavorerà a Tunisi, ed a Bruxelles, dove incontra Michel Boucquillon, il suo futuro marito, architetto designer autore del Parlamento Europeo di Bruxelles. Lei diventa la sua complice e consigliera. Nel 2000 la coppia decide di trasferirsi a Santa Margherita Ligure in Italia con la figlia Uma. Dopo due anni nasce la seconda figlia Noa. Donia inizia a dipingere e a realizzare sculture. Nel 2004 la coppia si installa a Lucca in Toscana dove acquistano tre ruderi nelle colline. Diventerà la “Casa Boucquillon” il luogo di vita e di lavoro per entrambi. Nel 2015, la Casa Bouquillon riceve il premio internazionale “Expo Pietra Award” “Sono profondamente europea nel mio modo di vivere. Ma la Tunisia è nel mio cuore.

Molto presto le mie radici faranno parte del mio lavoro. Il mio tema combatte a tutte le forme di oppressione ed è onnipresente la ricerca della libertà individuale. Vorrei lanciare un messaggio di speranza e di riflessione attraverso il mio personaggio chiamato “Lola”. Lola, la sua protagonista, sculture in bronzo sono state esposte in numerosi musei e gallerie d’arte.

Donia Maaoui was born in Brussels (Belgium) in 1967, her mother Belgian and father Tunisian. At the age of seven her family left Tunisia to settle in Brussels. Every year, during the summer break from school, Donia would fly back on her own to Carthage to visit her Tunisian family. At 17, alongside her studies, she became a runway model for some of the greatest names in high fashion.

In 1993 she earned her degree in Architecture in Brussels. She worked in Tunisi and Brussels, where she met Michel Boucquillon, her future husband, architect and designer of the European Parliament in Brussels. Donia becomes his partner and counsellor.

In 2000 the couple moved to Santa Margherita Ligure in Italy with their daughter Uma. Two years later their second daughter Noa was born. Donia begins to paint and create sculpture. In 2004 the family moves to Lucca, Tuscany where they discover an abandoned structure in the hills overlooking the town, which becomes “Casa Boucquillon”, now their home and studio. In 2015, Casa Bouquillon receives the international “Expo Stone Award” “I am deeply European in my way of life. But Tunisia is in my heart.

Very soon my roots will be evident in my work. My theme fights all forms of oppression and research of individual freedom. I would like to launch a message of hope and reflection through a character I created and called Lola.” Lola, her main bronze sculptures protagonist were exhibited in many museums and art galleries.

“Tattoo” è l’assemblaggio delle mie diverse attività architetto, designer, scultrice e pittrice. Il mio tema combatte tutte le forme di oppressione ed è onnipresente la ricerca della libertà individuale. Vorrei lanciare un messaggio di speranza e di riflessione attraverso il mio personaggio chiamato Lola. Queste sono sculture in bronzo patinate bianche, colore rappresentante la purezza e la speranza. Lola ha tatuaggi fortunati. La maggior parte dei suoi tatuaggi esprime la necessità di uguaglianza tra uomini e donne in tutto il mondo. Un messaggio di libertà femminile, un messaggio di libertà nel vestirsi, un messaggio di libertà religiosa e un messaggio di tolleranza. I suoi tatuaggi sono simboli di pace. Mi piace molto la lampada Cobra che è rotonda e bianca. Il tondo è un simbolo di unione.

Penso che si adatti perfettamente al mio tema. È un grande onore poter applicare questo messaggio di pace e libertà sulla Cobra.

“Tattoo” is the ensemble of my different activities as architect, designer, sculptor and painter. My theme fights all forms of oppression, and the quest for individual freedom is omnipresent. I would like to launch a message of hope and reflection through my character called Lola. These are bronze sculptures painted white – a color that represents purity and hope. Lola has lucky tattoos. Most of her tattoos express the need for equality between men and women throughout the world. A message of women’s freedom, a message of freedom to dress, a message of religious freedom and a message of tolerance. Her tattoos are symbols of peace. I love the Cobra lamp; it is round and white.

The sphere is a symbol of union. I think it fits perfectly with my theme. It is a great honor to be able to apply this message of peace and freedom on the Cobra.

Emiliana Martinelli

Decisa, estrosa, intraprendente, creativa, amante della natura e della geometria, delle forme rotonde. Dinamica, in continuo movimento! Curiosa, e sempre alla ricerca di nuove tecnologie, di materiali di forme e di idee. E’ architetto, designer, art director e presidente di Martinelli Luce. Emiliana Martinelli oltre a sviluppare i suoi progetti, alcuni dei quali premiati con riconoscimenti internazionali, ha collaborato con architetti come Gae Aulenti, e Sergio Asti e continua a collaborare con noti designer esterni all’azienda. Ama scoprire i giovani designer, sviluppare con loro nuovi progetti, alcuni di questi hanno ottenuto numerosi premi come il Compasso d’Oro. Molte sono le lampade da lei disegnate negli anni e presenti nei cataloghi dell’azienda, molti sono gli stand progettati in questi anni per le varie fiere del settore sia in Italia che all’estero, così come i progetti illuminotecnici per grandi spazi commerciali, espositivi, o pubblici come la holl dell’aeroporto di Marrakec. Emiliana ama la manualità, i suoi hobby sono la grafica, la pittura, e… la cucina.

Curious and always searching for new technologies, materials, forms and ideas. She is an architect, designer, art director and President of Martinelli Luce. In addition to developing her own projects and receiving international recognitions for them, Emiliana Martinelli has also collaborated with architects such as\ Gae Aulenti and Sergio Asti and continues collaborating with renowned designers external to the company. She loves to discover young designer talents, develop new projects with them, and some of these have received awards such as the Compasso d’Oro. Many are the lamps she has designed through the years and that are present in the corporate catalogue and many are the stands created for different trade fairs both in Italy and abroad, and so are the lighting projects for large commercial areas, exhibitions or public spaces such as the hall of the airport in Marrakech.

Emiliana loves working with her hands: her hobbies are graphic design, painting and… cooking.

Una partita a scacchi.

Il Cobra è stata una delle lampade più significative tra quelle progettate da mio padre, in quanto rappresentativa del concetto che lui aveva del design: essenzialità, rigore formale, tecnologia ed ergonomicità. In occasione dei 50 anni della messa in produzione della Cobra ho voluto raffigurare il mio rapporto con lui attraverso i quadrati di una scacchiera nel ricordo del gioco e della sfida di tutti gli anni trascorsi insieme.

A game of chess Cobra is one of the most important lamps among all those designed by my father because it embodies his concept of design: essentialness, formal rigor, technology and ergonomics. For the 50-year anniversary of the production of Cobra, I wanted to portray my relationship with him through the squares of a chessboard in memory of the game and of the challenge of all years we spent together.

The architect, artist and designer Alessandro Mendini was born in Milan. He is an exponent of the idea of design as an aware and poetic critical endeavour. He is the former editor-in-chief of the magazines Casabella, Modo, Ollo and Domus. Since the 1970s he has been a pivotal figure in the turning point toward postmodern design. Mr Mendini lives and works in Milan.

Nato il 20 aprile 1959 a Crotta D’Adda Cremona, si è diplomato in Industrial Design al Politecnico di Design a Milano nel 1984 e si laurea in architettura a Milano nel 1985. Nel 1986 ha fatto parte del gruppo I Nuovi 12 Memphis e nel 1986 è stato fra i fond atori del gruppo Solid. Dal 1988 al 1998 è partner dello Studio De Lucchi. La sua attività prosegue con la collaborazione con Michele De Lucchi dove si occupa di progetti per Alitalia , Comune di Lodi, Enel, Enelpower, Edipower, Ericsson, Fondazione Carisbo, Fondazione Cini, Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì, Fondazione Venezia, Hera, Mondadori, Intesa San Paolo, Piaggio, Novartis, Telecom, Unifor, EXPO 2015, e si amplifica con progetti di ricerca personale per Aran World, Elitable, Domodinamica, Mandarina Duck, Martinelli Luce, Ras, Rheavendors, Tuttoespresso, Solzi Luce, Unifor. Negli ultimi anni si è occupato di progetti inerenti ai tesori della cultura come Musei e Biblioteche. Tra i progetti più significativi che ha sviluppato con l’arch. Marcello Morandini

Marcello Morandini nasce a Mantova nel 1940 e abita a Varese dal 1947. È uno dei maggiori rappresentanti dell’Arte Concreta in Europa. Ha iniziato la sua attività nel 1964 con una personale curata da Germano Celant; nel 1967 è invitato alla “IX Biennale” di San Paolo in Brasile e nel 1968 con una sala personale alla “XXXIV Biennale Internazionale” di Venezia. Nel 1972 realizza una retrospettiva alla Kestnergesellschaft di Hannover. Nel 1977 è invitato a documenta 6 di Kassel. Negli anni ottanta collabora con studi di architettura a Singapore e a Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. Nel 1984 progetta in Germania la facciata di 220 metri della fabbrica di porcellane Thomas a Speichersdorf. Dal 1984 al 1986 allestisce esposizioni personali in diversi musei: Tokyo, Bochum, Verona, Darmstadt, Mannheim, Helsinki. Nel 1988 progetta una scultura di 40 metri, come simbolo esterno del museo di Ingolstadt. Nel 1993 ha una mostra antologica di arte e design al Museo Die Neue Sammlung di Monaco e al Palacio Galveias di Lisbona nel 1994. Dal 1995 al 1997 è docente di arte e design all’Accademia estiva di Salisburgo; dal 1997 al 2001 all’Ecal di Losanna e nel 2003 all’Accademia di Brera di Milano. Nel 2004 viene eletto membro onorario della Royal Society of Arts di Londra. Il WilhelmHack-Museum di Ludwigshafen, che gli ha dedicato 3 importanti mostre personali, gli commissiona inoltre una scultura di 10 metri per la piazza del museo. Nel 2005 inaugura con una mostra personale il nuovo Ritter Museum a Waldenbuch. Nel 2007 progetta l’architettura del centro culturale “Das kleine Museum” a Weissenstadt in Germania. Nel 2008 il Museo Ca’ Pesaro di Venezia allestisce una sua importante esposizione, poi esposta l’anno successivo al Neues Museum di Nürnberg. Nel 2010 si inaugura una sua scultura di 11 metri, come simbolo dell’Europäisches Industriemuseum di Plößberg. Allestisce inoltre una retrospettiva alla Casa del Mantegna di Mantova. Nel 2014 allestisce una mostra personale di arte e architettura al Kunstmuseum di Bayreuth e una retrospettiva alla Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna di Roma. Nella prima metà del 2017 ha allestito una completa retrospettiva al Museo MA*GA di Gallarate. Attualmente si occupa della sua fondazione, nata nel mese di dicembre 2016, e della ristrutturazione della sua sede in Varese che sarà operativa, anche come museo, alla fine dell’anno 2018 e della realizzazione dell’impegnativo volume autobiografico/catalogo ragionato.

Marcello Morandini was born in Mantua in 1940 and has lived in Varese since 1947. He is one of the major representatives of Concrete Art in Europe. He began his activity in 1964 with a solo exhibition curated by Germano Celant; in 1967 he was invited to the “IX Biennial” in São Paulo, Brazil, and in 1968 with a personal hall at the “XXXIV International Venice Biennial Exhibition”.

In 1972 he organized a retrospective at the Kestnergesellschaft in Hannover. In 1977 he was invited to “documenta 6” in Kassel.

In the 1980s he collaborated with architectural studios in Singapore and in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. In 1984, in Germany, he designed the 220-meter facade of the Thomas porcelain factory in Speichersdorf. From 1984 to 1986 he organized solo exhibitions in several museums: Tokyo, Bochum, Verona, Darmstadt, Mannheim, Helsinki. In 1988 he designed a 40-meter sculpture as the outdoor symbol of the museum in Ingolstadt. In 1993 he held an art & design anthology expo at the Die Neue Sammlung Museum in Monaco and at Palacio Galveias in Lisbon in 1994. From 1995 to 1997 he taught art & design at the Salzburg Summer Academy; from 1997 to 2001 at the Ecal in Lausanne and in 2003 at the Brera Academy in Milan. In 2004 he was elected honorary member of London’s Royal Society of Arts. The Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen dedicated 3 important solo exhibitions to him, and also commissioned a 10-meter sculpture for the museum’s square. In 2005 he inaugurated the new Ritter Museum in Waldenbuch with a solo exhibition. In 2007 he designed the architecture of the “Das kleine Museum” cultural center in Weissenstadt, Germany.

In 2008 the Museum Ca’ Pesaro in Venice organized an important exhibit for him, brought to the Neues Museum in Nürnberg the subsequent year. In 2010 an 11-meter sculpture of his was inaugurated as symbol of the Europäisches Industriemuseum in Plößberg. He also organized a retrospective at Casa del Mantegna in Mantua. In 2014 he held a personal art & architecture exhibition at the Kunstmuseum in Bayreuth and a retrospettive at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome. In the first half of 2017 he organized a complete retrospective at the MA*GA Museum in Gallarate. Currently, he is involved in his foundation, established in December 2016, and in the renovation of its new headquarters in Varese that will be operational also as a museum at the end of 2018, and in the creation of the challenging raisonné autobiographical volume/catalogue.

L’invito a studiare una nuova immagine grafica per la lampada “Cobra” progettata nel 1968 da Elio Martinelli, va sicuramente affrontato con il dovuto rispetto, per non snaturarne il suo valore originale. Un invito, con me condiviso da altri professionisti legati alla storia dell’azienda “Martinelli Luce”, che viene sottolineato simbolicamente dalla nuova collezione della lampada “Cobra”, rivestita a festa dalle idee di nuovi professionisti. Il mio progetto è un intervento grafico di colore bianco e nero: due realtà che accompagnano il mio lavoro dal 1963. Ho voluto realizzare un’immagine fortemente geometrica che coinvolge l’intera calotta sferica che permette un nuovo valore ottico estetico superficiale nell’azione della rotazione della luce. Percezione non possibile nella forma essenziale e perfetta voluta dal bravissimo Elio Martinelli cinquanta anni fa.

The invitation to study a new graphic image for the “Cobra” lamp designed in 1968 by Elio Martinelli must surely be tackled with due respect so as not to distort its original value. An invitation shared by other professionals tied to the corporate history of “Martinelli Luce”, symbolically underscored by the new collection of the “Cobra” lamp all dressed up through the ideas of new professionals. My project is a graphic intervention in black & white – two realities that have been accompanying my work since 1963. I wanted to create a strongly geometric image that involves the entire spherical dome and that affords a new optical aesthetic value of the surface in the rotation action of the light. A perception not possible in the essential and perfect form created by the brilliant Elio Martinelli fifty years ago.

She is a creator of exhibitions and events all around the world. In 1983, she won the prestigious Osaka International Design Award.

She is Designer of the Year in 2000 for the magazine Architektur&Wohnen. In 2011 won the Elle Deco International Design Awards for two project. On 2014 she has been inducted into Interior Design Magazine’s prestigious Hall of Fame. She has worked and still cooperates with most important companies of the international and Italian stage of the design world.

Paolo Orlandini

Paolo Orlandini e’ nato a Grosseto nel 1941; dal 2010, terminata la collaborazione con Roberto Lucci, porta avanti la propria attività come Orlandini Design insieme al figlio Folco e in collaborazione con un giovane team di designers e creativi. Uno studio in cui la lunga esperienza nel campo del design industriale si fonde con una dinamica attenzione verso i trend più attuali e le tecnologie più innovative. Parallelamente alla progettazione di prodotto lo studio ha sviluppato quella di interior, allestimenti fieristici ed eventi.

Paolo Orlandini ha svolto attività didattica presso l’Istituto Europeo di Design, all’I.S.I.A. di Roma, al Politecnico di Milano, alla Scuola Politecnica di Design di Milano, all’Università IUAV di Venezia. É stato Visiting Professor in varie universita’ in Brasile, a Rio de Janeiro e San Paolo e in Colombia, a Bogota’. Attualmente tiene il corso di Industrial Design al Politecnico di Milano.

Paolo Orlandini was born in Grosseto in 1941. Paolo Orlandini has carried out teaching activities at the European Institute of Design, at the I.S.I.A. Higher Institute for Artistic Industries in Rome, Politecnico Milano University, Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan, Università IUAV in Venice. He was Visiting Professor in several universities in Brazil – in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo – and in Colombia, in Bogota’.

Currently, he holds a course in Industrial Design at Politecnico Milano.

Luc Ramael nasce ad Anversa (Belgio) nel 1953. Nel 1975 consegue la Laurea in Architettura d’Interni presso il “Nationaal Hoger Instituut voor Bouwkunde en Stedebouw” di Anversa. Svolge studi approfonditi nell’ambito della progettazione di mobili e della fotografia. Al termine degli studi, lavora presso vari studi di architettura. Nel 1988 crea il suo studio di architettura d’interni e progettazione di mobili, ad Anversa. Progetta arredi e dispositivi di illuminazione intimi, che non necessitano di umorismo aneddotico o sperimentazione eccessiva. La logica e il buon gusto portano alla creazione di oggetti utili e familiari, senza inutili fronzoli. Dal 1984, insegna arredamento d’interni, progettazione di mobili e elementi di design presso varie facoltà di architettura del Belgio. Luc Ramael ha collaborato con aziende che operano nei settori dell’illuminazione e dell’arredamento in Belgio, Olanda Spagna e Italia.

Ha vinto vari premi in competizioni di livello internazionale. Sono varie le facoltà di architettura che lo hanno invitato in qualità di esaminatore esterno ed è stato membro della giuria della prestigiosa competizione “Interior 2000” a Courtrai, in Belgio. Figura tra i designer selezionati dal Flanders DC (Flanders District of Creativity). Oggi, vive e lavora a cavallo tra Belgio e Italia. I suoi progetti di mobili e architettura di interni sono stati esposti in varie mostre a Anversa, Gand, Bruxelles, Amsterdam, Francoforte sul Meno, Milano, Parigi, Barcellona, ecc. Come architetto di interni, Luc Ramael lavora a progetti per case private, negozi e ristoranti, esposizioni, studi medici, ecc.

Luc Ramael was born in Antwerp (Belgium) in 1953. In ‘75 he graduated as an interior architect from the “Nationaal Hoger Instituut voor Bouwkunde en Stedebouw” in Antwerp. He did specialized studies in furniture design and photography. After his studies he worked at several architecture studios. In 1988 he set up his own studio for interior architecture and furniture design, in Antwerp.

He designs intimate furniture and lighting objects, without anecdotal humor or exaggerated experimenting. Logic and good taste leads to useful and familiar objects, always without unnecessary frills. Since 1984 he teaches interior design, furniture design and design basics at several architecture schools in Belgium. Luc Ramael has been collaborating with lighting and furniture-companies in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy. He won several prizes in international competitions. He has been invited, as external examiner, by several architecture schools and was also a member of the jury for the prestigious competition of “ Interior 2000” Kortrijk (Belgium). He is also a selected designer by Flanders DC (Flanders District of Creativity). Nowadays he lives and works between Belgium and Italy. His furniture designs and interior architecture projects were exposed in several exhibitions in Antwerp, Ghent, Brussels, Amsterdam, Frankfurt am main, Milan, Paris, Barcelona,... La lampada da tavolo Cobra é stata progettata da Elio Martinelli nei colori bianco e nero. Il progetto “Dots” crea un disegno che unifica queste due opzioni. Una trama di punti neri parte dalla sommità ingrandendosi progressivamente verso la base sull’intera forma sferica della scocca, realizzando il passaggio graduale dal colore bianco al nero. Questa trama conferisce un tocco contemporaneo al design originale ed un valore aggiunto visivo, dato che Cobra “Dots” si dissolve gradualmente nell’ambiente. Inoltre, la trama di punti é un “clin d’oeil” alla arte Pop e al movimento Optical degli anni ’60, periodo in cui la lampada é stata creata.

The Cobra table lamp was designed by Elio Martinelli in black and white. The “Dots” project creates a design that unites these two options. A pattern of black dots starts from the top, becoming progressively larger towards the base along the entire spherical body of the lamp, yielding a gradual passage from white to black. This pattern confers a contemporary style to the original design and a visual added value, since Cobra “Dots” gradually dissolves in the ambience. Additionally, the points pattern is a “clin d’oeil” to Pop art and to the Optical Movement of the 1960s, the period in which the lamp was created.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Cobra lamp, Karim designed a scaley special edition- KOBRAadorned with a fluorescent digipop skin adding a new sensual dimension to well-recognized design. Known for its serpentine form, the lamp is redefined by the pulsing, undulating, parametric pattern along its surface. The metallic pink sheen of the finish is inviting to the touch- ideal for interfacing with its rotating feature. Bright and seductive, the texture reinterprets Cobra in a fresh, poetic way.

Di nazionalità francese e uno dei primi laureati in “esthétique industrielle” all’ENSAD di Parigi con una tesi sulle materie plastiche, è stato designer pioniere della sperimentazione dei materiali e della contaminazione fra le tecnologie, divenuti aspetti distintivi della sua attività. All’inizio degli anni ’70 mette a punto il primo scarpone da sci in materiale termoplastico interamente riciclabile, oggi è consulente di aziende di ogni settore dell’industria. 4 volte vincitore del Compasso d’Oro, 1 Menzione d’Onore e 2 Selezioni dell’ADI Associazione Design Industriale, il suo lavoro è stato premiato molte altre volte a livello internazionale nel corso degli anni.

French citizen and one of the first graduates in “esthétique industrielle” at the ENSAD in Paris with a thesis on plastics, he’s been a pioneer designer in experimentation on the different materials and contamination between technologies, which have become distinctive aspects of his work. At the beginning of the seventies, he’s perfected the first ski-boot in thermoplastic material completely recyclable, today he’s a consultant for various companies of different industrial fields. Awarded 4 times with the Compasso d’Oro, 1 Honorable Mention and 2 Selections by ADI, the Industrial Design Association, his work has won many other international design awards over the years.

I imagined a star-studded sky to celebrate what 50 years ago looked like a meteorite in the firmament of light and then became an absolute icon. Cobra: 50 years old and still going strong!

Brian Sironi

Brian Sironi vive tra Milano e la Brianza e nel suo lavoro mette insieme l’approccio di industrial design e la cultura artigianale di questi luoghi. Nei suoi progetti si concentra sullo studio di forme pure e sulla ricerca di tipologie e archetipi. Nel 2010 è selezionato per l’esposizione “The New Italian Design Reloaded” presso La Triennale di Milano. E’ uno dei più giovani designer ad aver vinto nel 2011 il Compasso d’Oro ADI con la lampada Elica prodotta da Martinelli Luce.

Brian Sironi lives in between Brianza area and the city of Milan, combining an industrial design approach with a handicraft culture.

In his projects he focuses on the study of pure shapes and on the research about typologies and archetypes. In 2010 he is selected for the exhibition “The New Italian Design Reloaded” at Triennale di Milano Museum. He is one of the youngest designer in being awarded with the Compasso d’Oro ADI award for the Elica lamp manufactured by Martinelli Luce in 2011.

Studio Lucchi & Biserni

Lo Studio Lucchi & Biserni, nasce nel 1998 da una consolidata amicizia e stima professionale tra gli architetti Alessandro Lucchi e Cristiano Biserni. Nel 2001, insieme ad Andrea Bertaccini, fondano la società Tredistudio specializzata nella modellazione tridimensionale e resa fotorealistica di progetti per architettura e design. Lo Studio LB è conosciuto per i numerosi progetti di showroom, negozi, stand fieristici, case di abitazione, spazi di ristorazione, corpi illuminanti e oggetti di design, realizzati in tutto il mondo per aziende quali Moleskine, L’Autre Chose, Via Delle Perle, Mandarina Duck, Wella, Martinelli Luce, Cappellini, Poltrona Frau, Cassina.

Lo Studio LB negli anni si è specializzato anche in progetti di allestimento museale, tra i più importanti il Museo San Domenico di Forlì, la hall e il book shop del museo di Storia Naturale di Milano oltre a numerosi progetti di esposizioni temporanee tra le quali Giò Ponti, Antonio Canova, Wildt, da Michelangelo a Klimt, Novecento, Liberty, Piero della Francesca, Palanti, Boldini, Silvestro Lega, Melozzo. Con lo Studio hanno collaborano architetti e designers di fama internazionale quali: J.M. Wilmotte, Michele De Lucchi, Michael Young, Marcel Wanders, Ron Arad, Jasper Morrison. I punti di forza dello studio sono la metodologia progettuale basata su sinergie di competenze multidisciplinari, la sperimentazione e la ricerca nel campo tecnologico, l’impiego di risorse integrate, per offrire il servizio ottimale alle diverse esigenze della committenza.

Studio Lucchi & Biserni was founded in 1998 through the consolidated friendship and professional esteem between architects Alessandro Lucchi and Cristiano Biserni. Studio LB is renowned for its numerous projects involving showrooms, shops, trade show stands, private homes, restaurants, lighting and design objects, created all over the world for companies such as Moleskine, L’Autre Chose, Via Delle Perle, Mandarina Duck, Wella, Martinelli Luce, Cappellini, Poltrona Frau, Cassina. Through the years, Studio LB has also specialized in museum exhibitions and installations. Il progetto Cobra 50 ci ha affascinato dal primo momento per le molteplici tematiche intrinseche. In primis l’occasione di aver conosciuto personalmente Elio Martinelli, vero genio della forma e della luce, padre di tanti progetti ancora oggi innovativi. L’idea di intervenire su una sua icona ci faceva tremare le mani, ma con grande umiltà abbiamo iniziato a sviluppare idee che ne mettessero maggiormente in evidenza le caratteristiche originarie. La forma generatrice che aveva ispirato Elio, la sfera, affiancata ad una grafica minimale ci ha condotto alla palla 8 nera da bigliardo, abbiamo giocato ironicamente con il cinquantennio, anniversario che ricorre proprio nel 2018!

The Cobra 50 project immediately fascinated us for its motley intrinsic themes. First among them, the chance to have personally met Elio Martinelli, true genius of shape and of light, father of so many projects still innovative today. The idea to intervene on one of his icons made my hands shake, but with great humility we began to develop ideas that placed greater emphasis on its original characteristics. The generating shape that inspired Elio – the sphere – flanked by minimal graphics led us to the black 8-ball used in billiards. We ironically played with the 50year anniversary taking place in 2018!

Abbiamo studiato il movimento della lampada analizzandone il rapporto con la sfera che concettualmente la ingloba, questa sintesi ci ha permesso di arrivare all’essenza del progetto stesso isolandone il segno generativo.

We studied the movement of the lamp by analyzing its relationship with the sphere that conceptually incorporates it;Â this synthesis allowed us to arrive at the essence of the project itself, isolating its generative trait.

Studiòvo

Studiòvo è composto da Andrea Caturegli e Marco Vincenzi. Andrea Caturegli nasce a Lucca il 24 Settembre 1984 Marco Vincenzi nasce a Lucca il 23 Novembre 1981. Entrambi laureati a Firenze presso la facoltà di Architettura in Disegno Industriale, hanno proseguito i loro studi e le loro prime esperienze lavorative a Milano. Tornati nella loro città natale, hanno fondato nel 2009 Studiòvo, uno studio di idee con campo applicativo che spazia tra il design di prodotto, l’architettura degli interni e la grafica.

Studiòvo is comprised of Andrea Caturegli and Marco Vincenzi, both born in Lucca, respectively on September 24, 1984 and November 23, 1981. Both graduated in Industrial Design from the University of Florence. They continued their studies and had their first work experiences in Milan. Back in their hometown, they founded Studiòvo in 2009, a laboratory of ideas ranging from the field of product design to interior architecture to graphic design.

La lampada Cobra è senza dubbio un oggetto senza tempo. Ancora oggi affascina per la modernità della sua forma e per la facilità con cui si adatta ad ogni contesto. Ti accompagna per tutta la vita senza mai dissolvere la sua “bellezza”. In qualche modo il famoso discorso all’umanità di Charlie Chaplin nella pellicola “Il Grande Dittatore” ha in sè le stesse qualità. La simbiosi tra questi due frammenti di storia esalta gli stessi, congelandoli nella loro perpetuità.

The Cobra lamp is doubtlessly a timeless object. Still today, it fascinates for its modern shape and for how easily it fits any context. It accompanies you throughout life without ever dissipating its “beauty”. In some way, the famous speech by Charlie Chaplin to humanity in the film “The Great Dictator” possesses the same qualities. The symbiosis between these two fragments of history exalts them, freezing them in their perpetuity.
