Don’t Discount Your Guards A dull edge on your guards can sacrifice cut quality and potentially force you to run slower… costing acres per hour.

John Deere offers green, high-wear guards that come standard from the factory. These guards go through an added boronization process that gives them twice the wear life compared with the standard black guards. Black standard guards are case hardened all the way around. This provides a longer wear life compared to some aftermarket guards that are only induction hardened at the corners of the cutting edge.

Auger Finger Kits Auger Fingers guide the material to the feederhouse, the fingers and bearings should be checked periodically and replaced if there is excessive play.

John Deere offers two different types of auger fingers:

Composite Fingers

Made out of boron steel and heat treated for long wear.

Are known for their strength and resiliency in most crop conditions.

Crop Feeding Enhancements Feed Drum Anti-Wrap Kit

Recommended for tall, damp crop conditions to reduce drum wrapping. The attachment consists of two brackets that mount near the outer edge of the feed drum and reduce the likelihood of crop wrapping the drum.

Pre-Harvest Maintenance

Clean Grain & Tailings Elevator Chains Elevator chains should be checked for stretch and adjusted or replaced as required. The rubber paddles can develop rounded corners and edges, resulting in grain leakage. The most common reason for excessive elevator chain wear is too much tension. A chain that has too much tension will get tighter as the chain conveys material and could cause shaft and bearing failures.

Straw Chopper Knives Chopper balance must be maintained.

Depending on type of chopper, either 6 or 8 blades must be replaced to keep balance.

Threshing Elements & Separator Tines Three different styles of threshing elements are required for the Bullet Rotor - First Row, Second Row and Rear Portion. Threshing elements and separator tines are sold in kits of three as they need to be replaced in a row around the circumference to maintain rotor balance.

Keep a clearance gauge handy!

John Deere offers a convenient gauge that measures wear on threshing elements, separator tines, and concaves to help you know when it’s time to replace them.
