Barnum ‘Barnum’s the name, P T Barnum, and I want to tell you that tonight, on this stage, you are going to see - bar none every sight, wonder and miracle that name stands for!’ This exhilarating musical follows the irrepressible imagination and dreams of Phineas T Barnum, America’s Greatest Showman. The story of his life and his marriage to Chairy reveals a couple who looked at the world from opposite sides of the spectrum, and also reveals that she was the practical one who made his dreams come true. We follow the legendary showman’s life as he lit up the world with colour, warmth and the excitement of his imagination and finally teamed up with J A Bailey to create Barnum and Bailey’s Circus - the Greatest Show on Earth. Shang-a-Lang Rapture Theatre takes its raunchy and feelgood play – to the Granite City. Take a step back in time to the days of the Bay City Rollers, with loud fashions and, laugh out loud, adult humour . Written by Catherine Johnson (writer of the hit musical Mamma Mia!), Shang-a-Lang follows three flighty fortysomething Scottish women on their way to a 70s revival weekend in Butlins, where the Bay City Rollers are playing. They were all Rollerettes back in the day and decide it is time to recapture their youth, chase their unfulfilled dreams and have a ball while they do it. Lauren tries to stay sober, Jackie tries to stay married and Pauline continues to search for her Woody. Shang-a-Lang is the perfect girls’ night out laced with shocking laughs, warm tears and a fabulous soundtrack - a cross between a Scottish Shirley Valentine and Shameless. Please note that Shang a Lang is a play, not a musical. Please also note: In the comedic style of the play, the show contains strong language, scenes of a sexual nature and nudity. In Time O’ Strife By Joe Corrie Adapted, designed and directed by Graham McLaren On the 30th anniversary of the 1984 miners’ strike, the National Theatre of Scotland revives Joe Corrie’s 1926 classic play about a Fife mining community buckling under the strain of a seven month lockout. Driven by live, gutsy, folk-punk songs and intense, full-blooded choreography, this uncompromising production is a stark reminder that class conflict between those at the bottom of the social heap and those in power is perennial.

Chris Guthrie is bound to a harsh farming life by her intense love of the land. She dreams of the seductive yet distant world of books and learning, but when war breaks out, Chris suddenly finds herself facing a very different reality as a widowed, single mother in a land altered beyond recognition. Set in a farming community in the North-east of Scotland, Sunset Song charts Chris’s struggle to adapt to her new world and hold together her fragile family. Her survival depends solely on her belief that beyond the sunset lies hope. Marking a hundred years since the start of the First World War, Sell a Door Theatre Company and the Beacon Arts Centre revive Alastair Cording’s faithful adaptation of Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s classic Sunset Song, recently voted Scotland’s most popular novel of all time. www.selladoor.com

The Crucible and Ten Poems A unique opportunity to see two iconic and emotionally charged texts brought to life through breathtaking performances from Scottish Ballet’s extraordinarily athletic and expressive dancers. WORLD PREMIERE The Crucible (2014) Choreographer: Helen Pickett Based on Arthur Miller’s 1953 Tony award-winning play, Pickett’s second creation for Scottish Ballet layers rich, evocative characterisations in a story of opposites robed in sexual sin, translating this incredible dramatisation of the Salem witch trials with her inimitable style of dance language. This chilling tale of innocent people destroyed by a malicious rumour will captivate you with its spellbinding sensuality and capacity to provoke and question. UK PREMIERE Ten Poems (2009) Choreographer: Christopher Bruce Set to an emotive recording of ten Dylan Thomas poems read by Welsh actor Richard Burton, Ten Poems builds on the melodic rhythm of the famous prose, loved as much for their musicality as for their themes of lost innocence, nostalgia for childhood, and death. Christopher Bruce, one of Britain’s most prolific and important choreographers, brings each one to life with exquisite vignettes of story and character. Tue & Wed 7.30pm

Park “Extraordinary… a sexy and beautiful dance piece”

New Statesman Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Jasmin Vardimon returns with her critically-acclaimed dance theatre production, Park. Park is an urban oasis, a place of refuge from ordinary life where eight characters play, fight, fall in love and learn to survive. In this playground of relationships, young lovers wrestle in a historic fountain, a graffiti artist sprays his story, a busker finds his only appreciative audience in a bag lady and a flag-waving bully rants worn out political beliefs. Their stories intertwine creating a modern day fairytale that is alternately sharp, funny and cruel. Reworked for 2014 with new 3D imaging and multi talented cast Park presents a breathtaking collision of highly acute physical theatre, text, athletic dance and funky music, delivering fresh statements about our time.

Based on a true story, it tells of the passionate loves and life of the consumptive courtesan, Violetta. There are many echoes of Verdi’s own life in Traviata and he threw himself into the music. The highlights include the Brindisi, the best known drinking song in opera, the duet Un Di Felice and Violetta’s haunting aria Addio Del Passato. This magnificent production boasts sumptuous sets and costumes.

The masterpiece they tried to ban

Starring Vladimir Dragos as Rigoletto Featuring a magnificent golden eagle with a seven-foot wingspan. A stunning traditional production recapturing the decadence of Renaissance Italy with lavish sets and opulent costumes Verdi’s masterpiece Rigoletto is a dramatic tale of the jester’s daughter whose heart is stolen by a charming but unreliable ruler – and how her father’s attempts to prevent the love affair lead to tragedy. The opera was almost banned because it exposed the licentious behaviour of the powers-that-be at court. Featuring the two of the most celebrated tenor arias La Donna è Mobile and Questa o Quella justly turned into classics by Caruso, Rigoletto is based on a play by Victor Hugo, who wrote Les Miserables.

He’s the soloist in Mozart’s brilliant, high-spirited Piano Concerto No.12, and he joins Artistic Director, violinist Jonathan Morton, in Haydn’s witty Double Concerto in F. In between, two more recent composers provide commentaries on those two great Classical masters: Arvo Pärt in his mesmeric and profoundly moving Mozart-Adagio, and Alfred Schnittke in his theatrical and mischievously funny Moz-Art à la Haydn.

John Butt Director Nicholas Mulroy Evangelist Robert Davies Jesus JS Bach’s St Matthew Passion was first performed at Easter between 1727 and 1729, and has since become one of the towering works of classical music. It brings together two orchestras and choruses to create a powerful meditation on the story of Christ’s crucifixion, as related by the Gospel of Matthew. Using similar forces and instruments to those that Bach would have used, the Dunedin Consort makes use of 8 individual solo voices alongside the group’s characteristically virtuosic instrumental players, highlighting a real sense of clarity and emotional expression in exploring what is often considered Bach’s masterpiece.

Mozart Horn Quintet in E-flat major, K. 407 James MacMillan Horn Quintet Hebrides Ensemble bring together two very different Horn Quintets, one by Mozart, which makes full use of the tone and personality of the horn, and a more abstract work by James MacMillan featuring ‘hunting’ and ‘battle’ horn exclamations with light dancing melodies.

Coronation Anthems: Zadok the Priest My heart is inditing Purcell Ode to St Cecilia John Butt Director Originally composed for the coronation of George II in 1727, Handel’s coronation anthems Zadok the Priest and My heart is inditing are among his best-loved choral pieces. With the splendour of trumpets and drums and their rousing beginnings, we hear Handel at his most extroverted. The Ode to St Cecilia is one of Henry Purcell’s largest choral works and presents a fitting tribute to the patron saint of music. Purcell makes use of a number of dance forms, typifying the elegance and poise that were to become hallmarks of the English baroque.

Andante Cantabile, Op.11 Chamber Symphony No.1 in C minor Op.110a (arr. Tchaikovsky’s dramatic themes, intense rhythms, and soaring, dancelike melodies make an immediate connection with audiences. His Andante Cantabile and the Serenade for Strings are powerful, moving works that come straight from the heart. Written during a visit to war-torn Dresden, Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony is a gripping portrayal of the brutality of conflict. Its jagged, dynamic rhythms in the central sections are contrasted by elegiac outer movements that never fail to move the listener.

Don Paterson (Writer)

Simon Armitage (Writer)

Don Paterson is one of the finest poets of his generation (and that’s quite a generation!) He has won all the major poetry prizes - The Whitbread Prize, the Forward Prize, The Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize - and he’s the only poet to have won the prestigious TS Eliot Prize twice. He is also an accomplished jazz guitarist. His poetry is lyrical and profound, witty, sensual and spiritual, and he’s a captivating reader of his own work. His most recent poetry collection is the award-winning Rain.

Simon Armitage is one of the most genuinely popular poets writing today producing work that receives the highest critical acclaim and yet is truly accessible. He has received the Sunday Times Author of the Year Award, the Forward Prize, and an Ivor Novello Award for his song lyrics. He was named the Millennium Poet in 1999 and was made a CBE in 2010. He has also written fiction, drama and opera libretti, and is a regular on national radio and TV. In performance he is brilliantly droll and deadpan - wickedly funny.

Understandable considering the number of top ten hits they have had throughout the world. Since The Manfreds re-formed in 1991, they have been in constant demand throughout the World… understandably considering the number of top ten hits they had, not only with The Manfreds, but also individually.

Shane was just a teenager when the mighty Westlife formed in 1998. And in 2012 after 14 UK number one singles, 12 massive albums and numerous tours, the band decided to call it a day. For Shane the future meant landing a deal with record giants Universal and beginning work on his first ever solo album, You and Me, which was recorded in both the UK and US. Musically he decided to mix things up with some up-tempo and mid- tempo songs, all penned by the man himself. The result is an eclectic mix of pop, soul, country, folk and even a hint of traditional Irish music thrown in for good measure. With support from Ben Montague.

An evening of song, laughter and legendary stories in this enthralling tribute to the music, life and times of Patsy Cline. It is some 50 years since patsy left a great legacy of hit records. This wonderful show pays tribute to country music’s world renowned superstar. Featuring the stars of the west end production Patsy, the fabulously talented Sandy Kelly Ireland’s ‘queen of country music’ and George Hamilton IV one of the true greats of country music and one of Patsy’s closest friends whose many hits include Abilene, Early Morning Rain and She’s a Little Bit Country. Sandy Kelly’s performance as “Patsy” has captured the hearts of legions of fans all over the world, this feel-good show will leave you wanting more.

For lovers of Sixties music, this is the ultimate line-up. Featuring record breaking Merseybeat band Gerry & The Pacemakers. The first act to reach No. 1 and the first act ever to top the charts with their first three singles. Also from Liverpool, The Searchers’ first single also went to No. 1 and led to five more Top 5 hits and a total of 128 weeks in the charts. Controversial P.J. Proby, whose trouser splitting shocked the nation, was a Melody Maker teen idol award winner in 1964 and spent 91 weeks in the charts. The Fortunes stormed the Top 10 with You’ve Got Your Troubles, Here It Comes Again, Freedom Come Freedom Go and Storm in a Teacup. And finally, Brian Poole and Chip Hawkes. On stage together, bringing you the very greatest hits of The Tremeloes.

Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbot

London-based alt-soul songstress with a heart-melting vocal presence and a Billie Holiday influence. The Hackney-born singer draws on diverse influences from her colourful past, including working as a magicians assistant, actress, burlesque performer and trained contemporary dancer, and uses unconventional theatricals and props to make her stage shows original, engaging and magical. Known for her unique, retro and eccentric style, the pop superstar recently released her third album, preceded by the single, Can’t Rely on You which debuted at No.10 on the UK official charts.

Formed nearly 30 years ago, the awardwinning songwriting duo of Vince Clarke and Andy Bell unleashed on the nation a succession of both influential and charttopping pop anthems of the ‘80s, ‘90s through to today. Songs like A Little Respect, Sometimes, Victim Of Love, Ship Of Fools, Blue Savannah, Star, Chains Of Love, The Circus, Who Needs Love (Like That), Love To Hate You, Drama!, Always and Breathe, ensured a formidable presence on the singles charts complemented by five consecutive No 1 albums (including The Innocents, Wild! and Chorus) and the beginning of the worldwide Abba revival, Abba-esque. Aberdeen Singing Chorus

Dancing in the Streets

Deacon Blue

Roddy Frame

Their name was inspired by a Steely Dan song, their music influenced by the artfulness of Bruce Springsteen channelled through a distinctly Scottish upbringing. The end product is Deacon Blue. Fronted by singer/songwriter Ricky Ross, Deacon Blue have enjoyed five top five albums and 18 top 40 singles over the last 25 years, achieving massive chart success in the ‘80s with tracks including Real Gone Kid and Fergus Sings The Blues.

Best known as the leader of Scottish pop group Aztec Camera, Roddy Frame burst onto the U.K. pop scene as a songwriting wunderkind who became a critical favorite while still in his teens. If the stardom expected of him never quite stuck, Frame has earned a reputation as a gifted, literate tunesmith who has enjoyed a long-running and uncompromised career. In his early teens, Frame was inspired by the songcraft of David Bowie, the conversational realism of Mark E. Smith and the Fall, and the sounds of earlier rock innovators such as the Velvet Underground, the Byrds, and Love. Frame took up songwriting, and in 1980 he formed Aztec Camera with like-minded friends Campbell Owens on bass and Dave Mulholland on drums.

With 300 singers this is the largest community choir in Scotland. People from all walks of life, with a love of singing, come together to sing and have fun for a ten week period culminating in a Concert at the Music Hall.

Join the original and the best celebration of Motown’s Greatest Hits with the spectacular, critically acclaimed Dancing it the Streets. Experience the energy and electricity of the motor city in a stunning production packed with hit after hit, all killer, no filler! The talented cast and band will bring to life the infectious, melodic, foot-tapping songs with a touch of soul and guaranteed to have you signing along and dancing in the aisles Expect your favourite songs made famous by The Four Tops, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, The Supremes, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas and many more.

Mike + the Mechanics The hardest working band in the business? Very possibly. No sooner had Mike + The Mechanics finished their fantastic The Living Years 25th Anniversary Tour with a blow out gig at the Hammersmith Apollo in March than they embarked upon a whirlwind set of dates in Europe (from which they’ll take a brief sojourn to play the REWIND festival in Henley and Cheshire in August). And they’d barely embarked upon that miniodyssey before they were plotting their next big UK tour. Don’t deny yourself the chance to see Mike and the Mechanics in the flesh in 2015 (especially if you missed them in 2014) – they can’t keep this pace up for long.

The first half is a whistle-stop tour of the globe. Highlights and lowlights, adventures and cock-ups, all vividly illustrated with a special selection of photos and footage shot during the eight TV travel series that began with Around The World in Eighty Days. In the second half of the show, Michael takes a free-wheeling look back at the other side of his life - the love of comedy that took him from schoolboy in Sheffield to Python at the O2. “Its January and I’m asked as I’m asked each year “what’s the name of your show Jason?” I ask do you mean the one that will be on in August and by the time I get there my show content will have changed at least 546 times? Yes they say. So I’ve asking the audiences to name the show, and that’s exactly what they’ll do over the course of the year, the best name will win £500, there will be a leader board on stage each night and by the end of the tour my show will have a name, thanks to you lot.” As featured on Live at the Apollo (BBC1), The Royal Variety Show (ITV).
