Eco__identity. my name is Juan Luis Llopis and I’m coordinator of LAPASSA Our proposal, Eco_identity, is based on the collective, as one of the ways of understanding art, where the body, or identity, come to be described as “us” as opposed a me.

LAPASSA, has been doing actions in public spaces since 2014 whith garbage, which once used, we discarded. Eco_identiTY is part of that project where nature - where we come from - and our identity what we are - seem overwhelmed with the struggle to survive.
Nature versus garbage
We live in a world where capitalist supremacy controls our decisions, combining, explicitly, free will in a single direction disguised as “Freedom�; freedom of the strongest; freedom of consumption; and the free choice of he can afford it. In short, a barrier is created between those who can access this freedom, and those who are left out of its market. A white market-ocidental-macho market that uses nature, at will, without restraint.
Welfare society
Eco_identity, is a conceptual project, where the ephemeral, the action and the collective prevail as a means of understanding art, where the art and life are confused. Ecoidentity is happening, it is an urban space, where the public is invited to participate, taking over the space in order to dismantle their routines and cause a certain drift, a new map, in short, redraw the city.

Using the body as a way of expression, as a border discipline between sculpture and life, helps us to directly question people about the use of garbage. We use the mask as a reflection of a society that covers the face of shame and looks the other way...

The use of garbage, as ephemeral and therefore perishable, breaks the norms of the established, of the expected, of the eternal and unique truth, and iprovokes social reflection by putting among them, as a “vanitas�, the arrogance of the purity, of dogma, focuses on the problem towards our way of living and proceeding which the planet is at the expense of the will of only a few, unless we avoid it, with our small gestures. Therefore, Eco-identity is linked to action, as another characteristic of our artistic proposal. Therefore, it is this provoked relationship that causes art move by breaking the pre-established limits beforehand.

In the action "sanity" we are all linked. Unique thought, the reason does not let our feelings emerge. Society wants us still, gagged, our action is trying to break the rope with small gestures

In "footprints" we address the concept of appropriationism. Many times, LAPASSA, begins to work the action from an artistic reference, in this case we have chosen “Performance Still� by Mona Hatoum not to repeat his message, but to look for new readings. The concept of appropriationism helps us avoid the idea of genius and that of property, also individualism, because we look for the collective, where what matters is action.

In the action "experiences" we claim with reading, that culture is our strength, a way to fight against ignorance. By involving the public, the action no longer belongs to us, its meaning changes and it is the people who decide, who take the floor.

In “Onions� our identity is nature, we claim to plant onions where there is only asphalt and concrete.

Today, plastic is part of our life, plastic is the common element that unites all the planet's species, it has invaded us, it is now unfortunately our new identity, it is a reflection of our society,

The picture ecoidentity, is a still life, where the apple is not the one that is represented but who paints and creates on the canvas its own path. We demand from our position as artists that nature be the protagonist and not the victim of our preponderance.

As you all know, there are many identities, we bet on the ecological, the eco-identity, because the planet demands it from us. Finally, on a personal level, I am working with the footprint. More specifically with the shoe and its footprint, as a reflection of our consumer society.

Now, if it seems good to you, we will celebrate with a small action the triumph of culture against dominant capitalism. I propose an exercise: I would like you all to get up and toast for a less rational and more absurd planet. Please, can you get up and take off your shoe and toast with me?
