Your adventure starts at the Tourist Office where you will receive a bag containing a street map and a series of challenges. From May to October, discover Martigny via a varied route which will take you from the Central Square to the Bâtiaz Castle, passing symbolic places such as the Semblanet Mill, “Barryland” theme park and the Pierre Gianadda Foundation.
As well as the museums and historic buildings presented on the other side of this brochure, Martigny, a town of art and culture, is distinguished by its 19 roundabouts decorated with sculptures produced by national artists. Started in 1994 by the benefactor Léonard Gianadda, this pioneering project resulted in the town’s cultural image being much enhanced. Other works, installed in the streets and shop windows have put the finishing touches to the urban artistic features.
From 2025, a new tour with commentary will enable you to discover Martigny’s surrounding nature ! Get on board for a journey in the heart of the verdant landscapes such as the Follatères reserve and its unique biodiversity, the sunlit orchards as well as the banks of the River Rhône.

Visit of the Morand Distillery Since its creation in 1889, five generations have striven to reach their present-day success in the cordial and eaux-de-vie markets. Town Hall The Town Hall has the largest secular stained-glass window in Switzerland. This work by Edmond Bille evokes certain episodes from Martigny’s past.

The Protestant Chapel
Saint-Michel Area
Built in 1932 by Baptiste Gianadda, its renovation was requested by his grandson Leonard who financed the stained glass windows created by Hans Erni.
In days gone by, this building served as a chapel, then a crypt. Today, it is an exhibition area containing wall paintings by Albert Chavaz and stained glass windows by Valentin Carron.

The Neighbourhood of the old Town This area’s charm lies in the small, packed alleys and old, colourful buildings. Restaurants, bars and artisanal single-storey houses form this part of Martigny’s existence.

Earth Sciences Museum
Built in the 13th century to protect the Rhône valley; over the years, it has been besieged and changed ownership several times. During the summer, it accommodates a tavern and a “Traptour”. Access is free. The panoramic view at the top of the tower is one of the most beautiful in the region.
A well-known cultural centre since 1978, with its GalloRoman archaeological museum, exhibitions of international artists, classical music concerts, a unique motor car museum and one of the most beautiful collections of sculptures in Europe, all of which await your visit.
A contemporary art centre in the middle of an exquisite garden, this modernistic building is a calm spot with discoveries and exchanges provided by temporary exhibitions, literary meetings and young musicians’ concerts.
A vast dwelling constructed in 1730 by the Ganioz family, the Manor is classed as important in the canton. In 1964, the Manor became an exhibition area where Swiss artists of all types could present their works.
MULTIMEDIA LIBRARY
A cantonal institution responsible for audio-visual heritage, the Martigny Multimedia library offers the public many exhibitions, screenings and activities associated with Valaisan history.
Gold, silver, copper, iron, sulphur, quartz, fluorspar, arsenic, coal… Mining exploitation in Valais had its heyday in the past. This museum features the extracted mineral wealth in the region as well as the reconstruction of an underground mine.
