Since April 2012, the touristic destination « Martigny Région », composed of 13 villages and towns from St-Maurice to Saillon, proposes concrete offers and actions for different interests. Indeed “Martigny Région” is full of vary activities both in summer and winter in which everyone can find his delight. Cultural Capital The «Pierre Gianadda Foundation» hosts art exhibitions of major artists, an automobile museum, a park of sculptures and a Gallo-Roman museum. At «Barryland», you will discover the world of the St. Bernard dog. The St. Maurice Abbey holds a wealth of 1500 years of history to explore. And why not visit the Museum of Counterfeit Currency in Saillon? For us, culture is written in CAPITALS. Immersed in nature From waterfalls, mountain lakes, gorges, glaciers, natural reserves and majestic peaks, the area is overflowing with breathtaking scenery and landscapes. Discover these panoramas and you’ll never forget them.
Find your inner child The area has plenty of unique theme parks (Labyrinthe Adventure, Western City and VerticAlp Emosson), an enchanting alpine zoo, and an enormous array of fun and enjoyable activities that will satisfy kids and adults!
Wellness Take care of yourself all year round: the thermal baths of Saillon and Lavey-les-Bains have saunas, Turkish baths and hammams, massages, and swimming pools on offer in a beautiful alpine scenery.
Sports activities Whether it’s canyoning, downhill mountain biking or by scooter, windsurfing, climbing, Via Ferrata, zipline or paragliding, you’ll need a strong stomach for these extreme sports. It goes without saying that more classic sports such as bike-riding, tennis, bowling, mini golf, squash, beach volleyball and swimming among other sports are just as popular in the region.
Gastronomy Apricots, chestnuts, asparagus and pears are part of the treasures of nature you can taste in the region. These delicacies are accompanied by an excellent local wine, such as the ‘Petite Arvine’, which complements the meal perfectly. How can you resist to the Alpine cheeses, dry meats and hams of the country ?
Archaeology As early as the Roman era, the region was known as an important area of commerce. Martigny’s Gallo-Roman remains invite travellers to go back in time across epochs and eras, to discover the Gallo-Roman Temple, the Amphitheatre, and the Mithraeum. In St. Maurice, the 1500-yearold Abbey and its treasure is open to the public and tells the story of a past rich in history in this cultural quarter.
Winter Activities From Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, to ice skating, luge, and even dog sledding, everything is possible for amateurs of the white gold to have a memorable stay. There are 8 skiing sites at just 35 minutes away from Martigny.
A Region With Taste Asparagus Festival May Whether white or green, asparagus has no secrets in Saillon. To celebrate one of the first vegetables of the year, producers from the region are present with their seasonal products. This is the opportunity to spend a relaxing moment around a soup or other dish made from asparagus.
Apricot Festival August (even years) An event of national important, the festival welcomes to Saxon all the main Swiss producers of the fruit sector, as well as a range of connoisseurs and those passionate about fruit. Several activities highlight the quality taste of the prince of the orchards, picked just for this occasion in a multitude of original products – beers, water, vinegars…
Chestnut Festival October More than 40,000 visitors stroll along the roads of Fully for this event. The festival highlights the craftsmanship and the local territory. Five chestnut islands, held by regional companies, serve as temples of the “brisolée”: a typical Valais dish made from chestnuts, cheeses and cold meats.
Bacon Fair December The bacon fair of Martigny-Bourg is the oldest regional festival with the first event taking place in 1801. At the start of winter, this event allows visitors to warm up around a seasonal dish, such as sauerkraut or an onion soup, without neglecting the atmosphere that warms the hearts of all.
