Program information including: dates, times, locations, and ages are included in this guide. There are now three ways to register; on-line, by telephone, and in person. We will be accepting, cash, cheque, debit, and credit card.

On-line Registration On-line registration can be found on our website at www.martensville.ca look for the ‘Program Registrations’ button at the bottom of the page. You will need a user name and password. After logging in you will be given the opportunity to update your password and add or change your account and family information. As this is still new to us please be patient. If you have any trouble with your account or you need us to set one up for you, please let us know by calling 306-683-5576 or emailing mapreception@martensville.ca.

In Person Registration In person registration will take place at the Martensville Athletic Pavilion (MAP), and you can also register by phone by calling 306-683-5576. We are located at 200 Mike Sands Boulevard. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 7:00am10:00pm and Saturday and Sunday 8:00am-9:00pm. For quick registration please fill out your registration form available on–line prior to coming into the MAP. All registration fees must be paid in full when registering. We accept cash, cheque, debit, and credit card.

Registration Information

REASONABLE CARE IS TAKEN TO ENSURE THAT THE INFORMATION AND LISTINGS IN THE PROGRAM GUIDE ARE UP TO DATE AND AS ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE AT THE TIME OF PUBLICATION. PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME OF THE PROGRAMS OPERATING DAYS, TIMES, AND LOCATIONS MAY CHANGE DEPENDING ON REGISTRATION NUMBERS.

Refund Policy

• A refund request that is received ten (10) days prior to the start of a course will receive a 100% refund. No reason shall be required.

• A refund request received within 10 days of the course starting or once the course has commenced, and no more than 20% of the course is complete will receive a 50% refund.

• After 20% of any course has been completed no refund shall be issued.

• 100% refund will be issued if the program is cancelled by the Recreation & Community Services Department.

• A pro-rated refund will be issued under the following circumstances; - Medical reasons, a medical certificate will be required.

- Program class cancellations, where classes cannot be made up.

Jumpstart

TM

TM

KidSport is a children’s charity dedicated to assisting children and families facing financial obstacles with the opportunity to participate in community sport programs. 100% of donations and TM fundraising proceeds are directed to KidSport children and 100% of the money stays in Martensville. Application forms for KidSportTM are available at the MAP. For more information on these programs, please call 306-683-5577 or e-mail recprograms@martensville.ca.

Jumpstart is a community based charitable organization that helps kids in need participate in organized recreational activities. This program will also help to fund equipment costs.

Jumpstart Day – May 26th

KidsportTMPlayhouse Fundraiser We are very excited to be joining forces with the Martensville A & W, Clarks Crossing Gazette, Warman High School, and the Martensville Lions Club again to bring the community another chance at winning a beautiful playhouse. Make sure you get out and purchase your tickets from March through June. Tickets are 1 for $3 or 2 for $5 and will be available at various locations and the A & W throughout the campaign. Last year we raised approximately $10,000 and we are hoping for an even bigger event this year. The draw date for the Playhouse is June 28th at 7:00pm at the A & W. Thank you for your support!!

Recreation Membership & Program Accessibility

The Canadian Tire in Martensville will be hosting a BBQ on May 26th from 11:00am to 2:00pm to kick off Jumpstart Day. They will also be holding BBQ’s every Saturday in June along with running a special Jumpstart camping in the store. All proceeds raised from these BBQ’s and the campaign will go towards the Martensville Chapter.

2018 Sask Lotteries The purpose of the Sask Lotteries Community Grant program is to provide funds to local, non-profit and volunteer-based organizations whose sole purpose is to provide programs and services in the sport, culture, or recreation sector.

Your project or event must take place between April 1st, 2018 and Mar. 31st, 2019. Contact City Hall to inquire about the program and application process.

This program will offer a discounted rate on yearly recreation facility memberships at the MAP and city operated leisure programs for families and individuals whose income is below a certain level.

The discounted membership will be 50% off the original price of a yearly membership at the Martensville Athletic Pavilion. The discounted leisure program registration will be 80% off the original price of the city offered leisure program, up to a maximum of $200 per family member per year.

Families or individuals looking to apply for this program must complete the application form and provide all required documents. All information on the forms provided by the participants will be strictly confidential.

Applications are available at City Hall and the MAP. This program is only for City of Martensville residents.

Easter Cake Decorating Workshop A cake decorating workshop just for kids! Decorate and take home some yummy Easter treats! All supplies are included. Ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Sign up early because space is limited!

Mini Moves An activity based program that teaches physical and social skills for pre-school children through action songs, games, and activities.

Mini Soccer/Blastball This is an outdoor beginner, co-ed, learn to play program which will include both Mini Soccer and Blastball. The program will have three main objectives: Fun, Skill Development, and Activity. Soccer will incorporate kicking, shooting, passing, and running, while BlastBall incorporates hitting, throwing, catching, running, and fielding. It is a ton of fun with fast and continuous action and simple rules. Teams will be formed and be played each week while parent volunteers will act as coaches and assistant coaches. If you are interested in coaching, please email specialevents@martensville.ca. Registration will be on-line or in person at the MAP this year. The registration deadline will be April 2nd for this program.

Youth Programs Babysitters Course One of our most popular and famous programs!

This course is packed full of advice, guides, tips, and information based on real life experiences, from kids and experts in the know. The Babysitter’s Training program has tons of activities and hands-on practice to increase student confidence and provide skills needed to be the best babysitter possible.

This course is 7 hours long so please send a lunch for their lunch break.

Ball Hockey The sport of ball hockey is a sport anyone can enjoy.

Regardless, if you are a high level ice hockey player or have never strapped on the blades, this sport is for you. During this program your children will learn passing, shooting, stick handling, and teamwork through drills, activities, and games. A Game For Everyone! No class May 21st.

Kids Art Classes A fun and informative project-based art class for kids and youth. Students will be encouraged to explore and develop their artistic skills and knowledge in a positive environment. Amy Coney, artist and certified teacher, will guide students in the exploration of a wide variety of subjects and media (sketch, watercolour, pastel, collage, and acrylics).

Students will enjoy creating masterpieces inspired by famous artists and art movements. Each class will cover a different theme and/or technique.

Children will develop self-confidence, determination and creativity through art! All materials will be supplied!!!! No class May 20th.

Kids in the Kitchen Kids in the Kitchen will provide a hands-on experience for kids 9-13 to learn food preparation, cooking terms, table manners and clean up!

Students will prepare simple and nutritious foods like tacos, omelettes, and cookies that they will then be able to prepare at home.

Lacrosse Lacrosse has become a very popular game over the past couple years largely in part to the Saskatchewan RUSH NLL Lacrosse Team. We are excited to be bringing back the Lacrosse program this spring. Come out and learn the basic techniques of this fast-paced exciting sport. A stick, gloves and helmet with mask are required. We look forward to seeing you there!

This introductory session will cover rallying, volleying and serving. BBQ Freezer Meals

Great for the upcoming BBQ season! Balancing time between home, work and kid’s events can be challenging. Trying to balance these things and provide home cooked meals for our families sometimes feels impossible. Come and join us for an evening of fun, food and laughter! Burgers, seasoned chicken breasts and pork souvlaki plus parmesan bread sticks and one dessert for your busy family in one session!

First Aid & CPR We will be offering one Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR C course this spring. This course meets the requirements of Occupational Health and Safety standards of Saskatchewan. The recertification will be offered on a separate weekend. You must be able to provide your active membership certification in order to take the recertification class.

This is mixed levels class; no previous experience is required.

Each week you will learn individual dance steps and progress to put the steps into a pattern and form a complete dance. Dance steps are from simple to complex. Steps, patterns and dances will be repeated each week; so, if you miss a week you can still come the next week. Dancing is a fun social activity and the steps are good exercises to develop and/or maintain posture, balance, coordination and memory.

Pickleball

Pickleball is a new sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. Pickleball can be played as doubles or singles. Come try out this exciting sport. Games will reflect a recreational league-style play.

Fitness Classes Aqua Fit

Zumba

A great non-impact cardio workout that will also challenge your muscles by using the resistance of the water and various equipment. Perfect for all fitness levels. These classes are ideal for people with arthritis, people with back or knee problems and people recovering from accident or injury. Instructor offers easy, moderate and difficult options for all exercises, so you choose your pace.

Zumba is a fusion of Latin and international music that will make you sweat. Interval training at its best. Be prepared to ditch your normal workout and join the party. Featuring samba, meringue, reggaeton steps and more. Bring your water bottle and a towel.

Gentle Yoga Practice the form of the basic yoga postures, while allowing yourself to experience a gentle slower paced class. Attention to connecting breath mindfully to move through the postures and creating a balance for greater health and mental awareness. No class May 21st.

Vinyasa Yoga

This class involves linking several yoga poses together to create strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance. The classes will effectively work all parts of the body equally, creating an experience of non-judgement and non-competitiveness. We will focus on alignment using the three-mountain format, warm-up, work phase and cool down. Be prepared to sweat a bit and leave feeling relaxed. All levels welcome, modifications offered at each class.

Martensville Aquatics Swimming Lesson Information Registration for swimming lessons will take place on-line and in person at the MAP starting at 9:00am on Monday, May 14th. For more information on how to register on–line please refer to page 3 of this guide. Registration will continue to be taken on-line and at the MAP for the duration of the spring and summer during regular business hours. If you have any questions regarding swimming lessons, please call the Aquatic Centre at 306931-0003 or e-mail aquatic@martensville.ca

Refund Policy for lessons • A refund request that is received ten (10) days prior to the start of a course will receive a 100% refund. No reason shall be required.

• A refund request received within 10 days of the course starting or once the course has commenced, and no more than 20% of the course is complete, will receive a 50% refund.

• After 20% of any course has been completed, no refund shall be issued.

• 100% refund will be issued if the program is cancelled by the Recreation & Community Services Department.

• A pro-rated refund will be issued under the following

circumstances; - Medical reasons - a medical certificate will be required.

- Program class cancellations, where classes cannot be made up.

- Relocation of primary address that is 30 km outside of

Martensville – proof of the new address will be required with individuals name on it.

6 years or older. Is comfortable in deep water, front swim for 5 meters and swim 10 meters continuously or have turned 6 after completing Whale

Are comfortable floating and moving independently in deep water, can swim front swim at least 10 meters while recovering arms above water, and can perform a front/side combination, exhaling on front and inhaling in the side glide position for 10 meters

Level 4

Can tread water for 45 seconds, swim front crawl at least 10 meters with arms recovering above the water and swim 25 meters continuously

Level 5

Can tread water for 1 minute, swim efficient front and back crawl at least 15 meters, perform whip kick on back at least 10 meters and swim 50 meters continuously

Level 6

Can swim front and back crawl at least 25 meters, swim coordinated elementary backstroke at least 15 meters and swim 75 meters continuously

Level 7

Private lessons are a way to personalize your lesson to suit the needs of any swimmer.

They are a good option if your swimmer has only a few items left to complete a level, needs feedback and correction on certain strokes or just needs one-on-one time with their instructor to build confidence. Private lessons can be booked as a one-time clinic session or can be used to complete a level. If you are trying to a complete a level, a minimum of five private lessons must be purchased at time of enrolment. The instructor may request additional lessons if they are unable to meet the goals of the swimmer in the time provided.

To Register: Email aquatic@martensville.ca to request an available time. Private lessons are paid for on the date of the last booked lesson. Private lessons are booked at a rate of $30.00 per half hour.

Winter FunFest

Easter Geocaching

This year’s Winter FunFest was again a tremendous success of our community. In addition to a wonderful day full of fun activities, we were able to raise $1,003.45 for the KidSport program in Martensville. Thanks to your generous donations, more kids in our community will have a chance to participate in organized recreational activities and sports. A big thank you goes to all of the sponsors, volunteers and everyone who supported this event.

You can’t miss this exciting outdoor experience for all ages! Geocaching is the real-world treasure hunt that’s happening right now, all around you.

There are over 2,500,000 active geocaches and over 6 million geocachers worldwide. This time, participants will use GPS coordinates to find Easter eggs hidden around Martensville. You will have one week from April 2nd8th to track down all egg-caches. Everyone who finishes the hunt, will be entered for a draw to win the Grand Prize!

Variety Night The Recreation and Community Services Department would like to invite you to attend our 16th Annual Variety Night. Performances from a variety of our programs such as Rhythmic Gymnastics, Mini Moves, Sportball, Gymnastics, The Joyous Dance etc. will all be included. The Variety Night will take place at 6:30pm on Friday, March 16th in the Performing Arts Theatre in the High School. Admission is by donation with proceeds going to KidSport. School’s Out The City of Martensville is now offering programs during school breaks and days off. Different events and activities such sports, science, and arts and crafts will take place during this program. It will run from 10:00am12:00pm for Kindergarten to Grade 4 for a cost of $5 and pre-registration is required. Our next one will be on Monday March 12th and then we will run it again from April 2nd-6th. Spring Monster Garage Sale The Spring Monster Garage Sale will take place on Friday, May 25th & Saturday, May 26th in Martensville and Warman. The registration fee is $5 and that gets your address listed on the flyer along with the map of our City. The flyers will be available to pick up at various gas stations, at the MAP, and City Hall. Senior’s Globe Walk The City of Martensville has partnered with the Saskatoon Council on Aging Inc. to offer the Seniors Globe Walk Program.During community consultations, older adults identified the need for more physical activity and social opportunities during the winter months. Cemetery

The City of Martensville has developed a community garden within Kinsmen Park. Interested individuals are asked to please submit their names requesting a plot. If more requests are submitted than available plots, a draw will take place allocating the available plots.

Currently all the plots have been allocated. Preference for allocation of these plots will be given to those individuals who have no available land to garden (ie: those living in apartments, condos). Residents of Martensville will receive first choice. For inquiries please call 306-2917797 or e-mail lennea@sasktel.net

The site is located east of Martensville at the south-east corner of Township Road 384 and Range Road 3052. Phase I of the cemetery includes 296 casket lots, 282 cremation lots, half of which can accommodate two cremated remains. Phase I also includes a columbaria section where remains can be stored. The cemetery will be operated out of City Hall. Anyone interested in a cemetery lot may call 306-931-2166 to inquire about the purchase of lots. The cemetery design, bylaws, floral and monument regulations, and information on licenses and fees are available at www.martensville.ca

Bench Dedication & Tree Planting Programs The Bench Dedication and Tree Planting programs were implemented for the purpose of providing benches and trees along the community walking paths, parks and designated boulevards. These benches and trees may be purchased through sponsorship, advertising, memorial or for a commemorative event or a person. Off Leash Dog Park

The off leash Dog Park is a year round park located south of 10th Ave S. This is the only area in Martensville that permits dogs off leash.

Patrons are reminded to obey park rules which are posted at the entrance to the park from the parking lot. Users of the Off Leash Dog Park will find a large open space for dogs to run as well as pathways within the treed area of the park.

Residents can access the park by vehicle off 10th Ave S and by foot using the pedestrian bridge off the paths behind Glenview.

Kinsmen Park With over 100 acres of green space located in the heart of the City of Martensville, Kinsmen Park is Martensville’s destination park. With its array of recreation options, facilities, and beauty, Kinsmen Park is a prominent feature in our community.

Kinsmen Park is home to the Martensville Slo-Pitch diamonds and connected to the Martensville Athletic Pavilion, Mocon Baseball fields, North Ridge Community Centre, multi-purpose sports fields, the Martensville Aquatic Centre, and three additional ball diamonds.

Kinsmen Park features over three kilometers of paved/granular lit walking pathways linked to over seven kilometres of additional walking paths. The paths span the community and run adjacent to four separate ponds adding to recreational opportunities such as skating, kayaking, or fishing. A pedestrian bridge over the canal provides an attractive backdrop for the park.

From sport activities to casual leisure enjoyment, Kinsmen Park is a great meeting place for family and friends. Amenities include an integrated pathway system, 9 hole disc golf course, 2 outdoor fitness pods with 11 pieces of equipment, park benches, picnic shelter, toboggan hill, 3 tennis/Pickleball courts, full size outdoor basketball court, playground, community garden, skate park, fishing, and gazebo.

Construction of the Kyle Syrenne Skatepark was opened in the fall of 2017 and is located across from the North Ridge Centennial Community Centre.

Rental Space

Lions Park is located at 416 6th Avenue South and is a popular park for family gatherings, with plenty to offer for young and old. Starting in 2013, this park features a newly renovated Spray Park with 17 different spray features and concrete basin. The Spray Park opens the first weekend in June and runs until the Tuesday after the September long weekend. Hours of operation are 10:00am-8:00pm.

Another feature of Lions Park is the gazebo. The gazebo provides that needed shelter and area to host family outings or special events. Plenty of green space is also

available for a variety of games.

The City of Martensville has various opportunities for rental spaces whether it be a wedding, birthday party, fundraiser, or a meeting.

Martensville Information & Visitor Centre Canada Day in Martensville!!

This year is Canada’s 151st birthday, and we are excited to celebrate with you!! Check out the 9th annual Canada Day celebrations at the North Ridge Centennial Community Centre right here in Martensville!

We are already busy planning a great day! There will be lots of great FREE activities for all ages. The day kicks off in the late afternoon, starting with an Art Show and Community History Showcase. Family activities start at 3:00pm with crafts, games, scavenger hunt and more. To add to this, cake and ice cream are served at 5:30pm for the first 200 people. Activities will continue into the evening and wrap up at 8:00pm. We will also have guest appearances throughout the afternoon, live entertainment from 5:00pm - 8:00pm (TBA), and an indoor dance party from 7:00pm – 9:30pm.

The feature event of Canada Day in Martensville is the fireworks display and the Cinema Under the Stars – a GIANT 3 storey inflatable movie screen in the parking lot of the Northridge Centennial Community Centre. Once again, the Martensville Information and Visitor Centre is working hard to get a brand NEW animated movie, one that is so new that it’s still in theatres and won’t be available on video yet. Pack your bug spray, blankets, lawn chairs and join the fun!

Local Service Groups Martensville Slo-Pitch Association Mark your calendars. The Annual General Meeting for Slo-Pitch is going to be held on Wednesday, March 7th. The Registration Night will be held on Wednesday, March 21st. Both will be held at 7:30pm in the Upper Mezzanine of the Arena. All teams will be required to be in attendance and have a $100 deposit to hold their spot in the league. If you do not have a representative and the money, we will be offering your spot to teams on the waiting list. New teams are always welcome pending space is available. All those new teams wishing to join our league this year should also attend this meeting and bring a $100 deposit.

Skate Martensville Skate Martensville is currently preparing for our year end Carnival. Please join Skate Martensville as we go “Around the World” on March 25th at 2:00pm at the Martensville Sports Centre. Tickets will be $5.00 in advance or $8.00 at the door. Spring 6 on 6 Tackle: This is a program run by Saskatoon Minor Football. If your child is interested in trying tackle football there are both Pee Wee and Bantam teams. If there are enough registered, they will base a team out of Martensville and they will be called the Maddogs. To register you need to go to www.maddogsfootball.com and click the Spring link. This will take you to the Saskatoon Minor Football website. This program runs from the end of April until June.

Local Service Groups Martensville Community Recreation Project The Martensville Community Recreation Project is working to provide new recreational facilities and opportunities in the City of Martensville. In doing this, we offer multiple events in our city as a way to raise awareness and funds that go directly towards these kinds of facilities and programs.

Our annual events that the MCRP put on are Martensville 3 on 3 Hockey Tournament, Casino Night, Street Hockey Tournament, NHL Playoff Draft and TUFF Fun Run. The proposed dates of these events: • NHL Hockey Draft - Sunday, April 8th, 2018 • TUFF Fun Run - Sunday, August 26th, 2018 • Martensville 3 on 3 Hockey Tournament - First 3 weeks in September - Registration starts at the end of April • Casino Night and Dance - Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 • MCRP Street Hockey Tournament - Saturday, June 2nd of Buster Days Weekend The MCRP is working with groups in our city to offer opportunities to raise awareness and funds for recreational facilities in our community. Martensville Soccer Association Martensville soccer is gearing up for our spring season and we couldn’t be more excited. Our season will start the week of April 29th, 2018 and runs for 8 weeks.

Our spring registration is always held in the month of February. Our up and coming season registration is now closed. We also host an indoor season with registration opening up in September 2018 and starting play in October 2018.

Curling Club We will be having our Windup, Banquet, Awards and Dance on Saturday, April 14th at the Curling Rink. Our leagues will be finishing up mid-March with playoffs winding up by the end of March.

All leagues will start in mid October and the Kickoff night will be in September. With the growing interest in the sport, our club is lookng at starting an adult learn-to curl program and league next fall. If you are interested in entering a team in this, or any league or entering as an individual please do so early as some leagues fill fast. Sask Five Giants - Baseball The Sask Five Giants Association gives the youth in our communities the opportunity to participate and excel in the sport of baseball. Martensville Amateur Softball Association (MASA)/ Twin City Angel’s (TCA) MASA registration and payment is now on-line for Rookie and Mites born 2008 - 2012 until March 31st.

We are having a Softball “try-it” night on March 8th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at the MAP to allow kids ages Kindergarten to Grade 4 interested or thinking of playing softball for the 1st time to come drop in and give it a try. Just bring your indoor shoes and your ball glove and come find out what all the fun is about.

MASA is hosting another Learn to Play orientation for all parents/potential coaches/managers of Rookie/Mites players again on April 11th. Details to follow on our website.

TCA registration ran this year from January 1st until February 15th for players U12 to U19.

Girl Guides Girl Greatness Starts Here: Girl Guides of Canada (GGC) stands for what it has always stood for - fun, friendship and adventure. GGC is a safe, accepting environment with diverse and exciting programs and activities that offer girls the chance to learn, grow and discover through age-appropriate programming.

From sports, camping and science to eco-activities, fashion design and community projects. Guiding’s girlcentred programming has something for everyone. Guiding is bold, fun, energetic and gives girls the tools and resources they need to achieve greatness.

Our year runs from September until April for Sparks (K and Grade 1), Brownies (Grades 2 and 3) Guides (Grades 4, 5 and 6), Pathfinders (Grades 7, 8 and 9) and Rangers (Grades 10, 11 and 12). Sask Valley Riding Club The Sask Valley Riding Club was formed in 1996 and is made up of members of all ages, promoting a Family atmosphere for horse owners. Some of the events organized include fun gymkhanas, poker rallies, various day trail rides as well as some overnight rides.

We hold clinics for club members and take part in local parades. Both English and Western riders can enjoy some of the advantages of membership, including access to our library which contains an assortment of training videos and books. As a club we enjoy spending time with other people, both riders and non-riders alike, that share our interest in horses.

Whether you’re just looking for some new people to ride with or for the opportunity to learn a little more about your horse in a relaxed atmosphere, the Club may be right for you.

Local Service Groups New Horizons Seniors Martensville New Horizons Senior Centre, invites anyone 55+, to join us for our social hours and other activities. We enjoy a potluck supper on Monday evenings at 5:30pm, and socialize with a game of cards, board games, shuffle board, or grab a pool cue and shoot a game of pool. Dropin on Thursday mornings for a cup of coffee, game of cards or maybe some crafts at 10:00am, is open to everyone. Our season starts in September, all through the winter months, ending the last Monday of June with a bar-b-que. Our address is 106-4th Avenue North. Memberships are $30.00, a year.

Some activities are subsidized by Saskatchewan Lotteries Grant, and include MAP passes, out of town bus trips, the Barn Playhouse and various other entertainment. Come and experience the Centre as a member or a rental group. With help from the Affinity Credit Union grants, we have been able to keep our facility up to date and modern. A Federal Grant enabled us to upgrade the Handicap ramp and widen the steps for easier access to the building.

574 Dakota Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets 574 Dakota Squadron meets every Thursday evening (Sept – Jun) at the North Ridge Centre in Martensville from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

We service the Martensville, Warman, Dalmeny and Osler areas and are a youth program for those between the ages of 12 and 19 years of age.

Air Cadets participate in a variety of activities such as: survival weekends, sports weekends, range, gliding / power flying opportunities and much more. The Cadet program helps develop today’s youth by instilling communication & leadership skills, discipline and service to others, which are the basis of a great citizen.
