Emotional Wellness Addressed at MHS

The Martensville High School SCC (School Community Council) hosted an evening of emotional wellness on Thursday, April 26th. Parents of Grade 8-12 students were invited to listen to guest presenters give insight on a variety of topics including; stress, anxiety, depression and share their personal experiences.

It became clear to the SCC that they needed to provide some support and resources to our youth in terms of emotional health after a survey was conducted at MHS. While there were many positive results with regard to participation in sports, positive behavior, and trying hard to succeed in their learning; it also became apparent that there is work to do in respect to emotional well-being. An astonishing 28% of students stated they had a moderate to high level of anxiety with the norm being 18%; while 27% indicated they had moderate to high level of anxiety with the norm being 19%. Additionally, the survey results showed that positive self-esteem is low among the students.

During the evening, the SCC also wanted to point out topics such as differentiating stress and anxiety, when and who to ask for help, as well as who to turn to when faced with these challenges. “As parents we are often the backbone of our kids' support, so we decided to include a session for moms and dads to come out to hear these volunteers give advice, ask questions, and learn what tends to work and what generally doesn't in terms of supporting our teens,” said Paula Johnston, on behalf of the SCC.

The evening consisted of two young adults sharing their stories about their struggles with teen anxiety, anxious thoughts and depression, the physical effects they dealt with, as well as not wanting to be in a social atmosphere.

Martensville Prepares to Host Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) National Championships Shanine Sealey, Martensville Messenger

Martensville will be hosting the 2018 Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) National Championships from May 4th to 6th at the Martensville Athletic Pavilion (MAP).

This event takes place each spring as competitive club teams from across the country compete for the prestigious title of National Champion. This tournament is the ultimate showcase of the inclusive nature of wheelchair basketball as the top male and female players from across Canada, both with and without disabilities, put their skill and athleticism on display as they compete with their club teams.

Since 1987, this domestic tournament has been taking place in various cities throughout Canada and is open to all eligible CWBL teams in the country. “The CWBL National Championship is the premiere national event on the annual domestic wheelchair basketball calendar,” Katie Miyazaki, the High Performance Wheelchair Basketball Coach for Saskatchewan Wheelchair Sports Association, explained while in Calgary training for the upcoming event.

This year, a total of nine teams will be competing across two tiers, with Saskatchewan providing a team to represent both tiers. Other teams will be coming from; Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. “We look forward to seeing the best players in Canada compete for the club championship as this premier national event returns to Saskatchewan for the first time since 2008,” said Wheelchair Basketball Canada Executive Director Wendy Gittens. “We are thrilled to work with the dedicated team at the SWSA and know that they will put on an outstanding event backed by the strong local wheelchair basketball community in Saskatchewan.”

Martensville was chosen as it provided the perfect location for this highly anticipated event. “We needed a venue with access to multiple courts, which are few and far between, and thought that it would be a great opportunity to have an event hosted outside of the bigger centres of Saskatoon and Regina. The Martensville Athletic Pavilion fit all of our needs and we hope to get the community behind this event,” Miyazaki added.

Games will take place on two courts within the MAP, with round robin games for both tiers taking place Friday and Saturday and the medal games being played on Sunday morning. “We are very excited to be able to host an event outside of a major centre in Saskatchewan,” said SWSA Executive Director Andrea Muir. “This will be the first national event held at the Martensville Athletic Pavilion and we are proud that it is the CWBL National Championship.”

In addition to the tournament, the weekend will also include the annual Wheelchair Basketball Canada annual awards banquet. This takes place each year in order to provide recognition to the ever-growing list of remarkable people whose commendable efforts and unfaltering passion for the game are a benefit to the entire wheelchair basketball community. “We offer our sincerest thanks and praise goes to all award winners and Hall of Fame inductees,” said Miyazaki.

With the event fast approaching, organizers are looking for sponsorship to help offset some of the costs associated with hosting the National Championship, as well as volunteers to provide help with things such as; scorekeeping, transporting equipment, and other odds and ends. Province Launches Free Legal Advice Program for Survivors of Sexual Violence

The Government of Saskatchewan’s program for survivors of sexual violence, The Listen Project, is now open to the public.

The program provides legal advice to survivors of sexual violence, and is hosted

by Public Legal Education Association of Saskatchewan (PLEA).

“We acknowledge that Saskatchewan has unfortunately high rates of sexual victimization and recognize sexual violence survivors often need help in responding to and overcoming such violence,” Justice Minister and Attorney General Don Morgan said. “The government stands with these survivors, and this program is a testament to our ongoing commitment to address the problem of sexual violence in Saskatchewan.”

Survivors of sexual violence can contact the program online at https://listen. plea.org/ or by phone toll-free at 1-855-258-9415. Under the program, clients can receive a referral for up to two hours of free legal information and advice. Where needed, an additional two hours of free legal assistance may be approved.

“The Listen Project is designed to help survivors overcome some of the barriers in accessing the justice system by helping them understand their legal rights and options,” PLEA Executive Director Joel Janow said. “PLEA is very excited to be part of this important project and looks forward to helping survivors of sexual violence find their voice.”

Funding for the program was provided by the Department of Justice Canada through the Federal Justice Victims Fund. As a pilot project, the program has been provided with enough funding to run until March 2021.

“Sexual assault can have devastating and traumatic impacts on victims and survivors, yet is one of the most underreported crimes in Canada,” Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada Jody Wilson-Raybould said. “Our government is committed to breaking down the barriers that may discourage reporting, and to ensuring that we have the tools in place to support those who do come forward. I am very pleased that the Government of Canada is able to help fund this important initiative.”

The Listen Project handles cases that involve sexual assault, sexual harassment in the workplace and historical sexual abuse. The program is free, and has no age restrictions or limitations on how much time has passed since an incident of sexual violence occurred.

The only limitation is that the sexual violence must have occurred in Saskatchewan.

Incidents of sexual violence do not need to be reported to the police for clients to be eligible for the program.

Landscaping or Working on Your Property This Summer? - Things You Should Know Access to Private Property Through Open Spaces Bylaw Due to damage to City property and failure to remedy damages; the City has created the Access to Private Property Through Open Spaces Bylaw. The City Traffic Control and Waste Bylaws have also been rewritten to set the provisions to access private property through City land.

Access to Private Property Through Open Spaces Bylaw 2-2016 Permit Required Any person or businesses that will be driving a vehicle or equipment over city open space to access private property are now required to apply for a permit prior to gaining access.

Section 6 (2) No person shall carry on the following activities in an open space area without a permit: (a) leave or store personal property; (b) set up a temporary shelter, tarp, canopy or other such device; (c) drive or arrange for a vehicle or equipment to be driven through an open space area; Traffic Bylaw – Dumping of Materials Dumping of material onto city streets is not permitted, any material must be placed on the owner’s property unless permission is granted by the Director of Infrastructure and Planning or designate. Any person or any business who will be conducting work on or around city streets must setup a safe temporary traffic control zone.

Section 4 (f) Any person or company responsible for construction, construction equipment, or material within the highway/street must setup a safe temporary work traffic control zone. At the request of the Director of Infrastructure and Planning or designate a written work zone traffic control plan may be required prior to approval for installation and setup.

Waste Bylaw 18-2015 Work sites must have a bin/truck on site to dump their waste material into, to not leave material scattered around the work site or piled on the road way.

Construction Waste 48. Lake Vista School hosted a floor hockey tournament for all grade six students from Ecole Holy Mary, Valley Manor, and Venture Heights. Each team played approximately five games.

The games were 25 minutes long. The format was round robin. The grade 7 and 8 students from Lake Vista did a wonderful job of running a concession.

A Sicilian State of Mind

I’d always wanted to see Sicily, possibly the result of watching too many Italian mob movies that romanticize “the old country”. Plus, when I learned that not only is it the ancestral home of many of my favourite fictional movie characters, but that it also boasts a pleasantly mild climate, endless beautiful coastline, and a copious amount of fascinating historic sights, not to mention deep-fried rice balls, we jumped at the chance to check it out.

Sicily is an autonomously governed region of Italy, and the largest island in the Mediterranean. Despite that lofty title, however, it is still never more than 300 kilometres straight across in any direction. Not that you’ll find a single straight road anywhere, but that’s an entirely different story. We flew into the capital city of Palermo and our first order of Italian business was, of course, to reacquaint ourselves with all the amazing food - thin-crust pizzas, piping hot paninis and, obviously, Italian stracciatella ice cream, which is surely among the world’s best. Once that was taken care of (for the moment) we discovered that despite its questionable reputation, Palermo can actually be a decent place to wander the old town and explore its fascinating local markets. As nice as Palermo was, however, we really hit the jackpot with our next stop, the popular beach town of Cefalù.

With a population of just 14,000, its extraordinary ancient streets are squeezed onto a tiny peninsula at the foot of a huge, dramatic rock outcropping. It also features the ruins of both a castle (La Rocca) and temple (Templo di Diana) at the very top of the hill with stupendous views in all directions.

No trip to Sicily would be complete without a road trip to take in its enthralling historic sites (not to mention the enthralling Sicilian driving style). Starting with Erice, around 3,000 years old and 750 metres above sea level - surprisingly cold, but highly atmospheric. Then it was on to the famous ruins of Segesta - also 3,000 years old with a sordid history involving war, deception, intrigue and failure. Followed by Selinunte - a sprawling maze of impressive temples perched on the edge of the sea with views all the way to Africa - and Agrigento, the most famous site in Sicily, its Temple of Concordia probably the most beautifully intact Greek temple we’ve seen anywhere, including the Acropolis in Athens. And you only have to share it with a fraction of the tourists. Then, nestled in a picturesque valley in the southeastern corner of the island, are several beautiful little “baroque” cities that look as though they were dropped right out of a painting. Ragusa was probably the prettiest, Modica had the best church and some unforgettable gelato, and

Province Signs Contracts with Donor Physicians, Launches Awareness Campaign

Investments Have Led to the Signing of Three Donor Physicians with Work Underway to Recruit Registered Nurse Donor Co-ordinators

The Ministry of Health and the Saskatchewan Health Authority are launching a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation. Three donor physicians have signed contracts to share a half-time position, which is responsible for providing leadership and education as part of a new model for Saskatchewan’s organ and tissue donation system.

“Our government is committed to improving Saskatchewan’s organ and tissue donation rates,” Health Minister Jim Reiter said. “In addition to signing three donor physicians, we are launching an advertising campaign to remind Saskatchewan residents that agreeing to be an organ donor saves lives.”

In 2018-19, $566,000 has been allocated for the Saskatchewan Health Authority to establish a leadership model for organ and tissue donation, including donor physicians and Registered Nurse donor co-ordinators.

The awareness campaign launch coincides with National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week, and includes video and print media with powerful, real-life examples of organ donation and the impact it has on the lives of Saskatchewan people.

“Donor physicians will champion organ donation across the province,” Saskatchewan Health Authority CEO Scott Livingstone said. “Their leadership coupled with initiatives aimed at improving the donation process itself, will pave the way to improving organ donation rates in Saskatchewan.”

Noto is proud home to “the nicest street in Sicily”, although how that can be true without a single fast-food burger restaurant or tourist tattoo shop is beyond me. As enthusiastic hikers, however, 3,300-metre Mount Etna was probably the highlight of Sicily for us. After spending several hours climbing up its ominous, and often slippery, black molten lava slopes, the weather grudgingly cooperated, the clouds parting to display awesome views into multiple craters, up to the smoking summit, and out over the clouds and sea.

Our final week was spent in the venerable old city of Syracuse, tremendously enjoying the captivating cultural mix and, in particular, the jumbled narrow streets on the island of Ortigia. Separated from the mainland by a tiny sliver of water easily traversed by a pair of picturesque bridges, Ortigia was once one of the most important cities in the Greek empire. It is filled with baroque palazzos, castles, fountains, and an insanely gargantuan church surrounded by a similarly gargantuan piazza. All told, Sicily is an unbeatable destination, especially in spring and fall when other parts of Europe are too cold for comfort, with everything from beaches to mountains to ancient history and incredible food. A whole different side to Italy.

During this meeting, there were several topics to cover, including the approval of an increase to the consumer utility rates. The increase will be applied to the residential water consumption rate and all residents will see a 9.25% adjustment to their monthly charges.

City of Martensville Director of Corporate Services Leah Sullivan explained that residents would see an increase of approximately $7.53 per month in 2018. Three readings were done before the amendments to the bylaw could be approved. Prior to the meeting, City management issued a Public Notice, informing residents of the upcoming adjustments.

At the May 1st meeting, Council also discussed Physician Recruitment Opportunities which could help bring additional doctors into the community. Recently, Martensville Collective Health & Wellness announced that they would have two new doctors joining their practice this year. Prior to this announcement both doctors had met with City representatives and had requested some incentive support due to their individual circumstances. Dillon Shewchuk, City of Martensville Community Economic Development Manager explained that both doctors are currently contemplating a minimum of two years for their service commitments. With one doctor relocating to Martensville from overseas and the other doctor a new graduate in 2018, both have upcoming expenses and have inquired about receiving financial supports to assist them during this transition.

The City of Martensville has negotiated incentives to help each of the doctors. In total, the incentives between the two physicians would equal $20,000. “Both Physicians are set to commit based on these terms,” Shewchuk said. At the meeting, Shewchuk asked that Council authorize signature of the two agreements. Shewchuk also noted that the addition of the new doctors to Martensville will be beneficial to the community in numerous ways including; increased walk-in services for residents, providing additional opportunities for local and service area residents to access a doctor in Martensville as opposed to other communities and the positive economic spin-offs associated with family medicine for pharmacies, physiotherapy and additional services. Council was provided with the information and had options to approve the agreement as outlined, provide no incentives or to provide alternative incentives. In the end, Council was in favour of providing the incentives.

Shewchuk also presented information to Council regarding the Martensville Information & Visitor Centre (MIVC) and looked for direction from Council. For the past three years, the City of Martensville has provided $30,000 in funding to the MIVC for operational funding as well providing space since their inception in 2008 within the Civic Centre. In 2016 and 2017, the City provided funds with no

conditions; however, in this past budget, the MIVC received $22,500 and was asked to provide monthly reporting to better understand their programming and activities. This past March, the MIVC presented their first requested report to Council, which included a letter from the board expressing concerns over the reporting; noting that it was time consuming, financially taxing, and too business oriented. Shewchuk asked Council for direction on whether the reporting periods should be modified, cancelled or kept as is. Within the report, Shewchuk recommended that the monthly reporting period be kept intact, as reporting requirements is a common practice for public grants and “as the City of Martensville is the sole funding body of the MIVC, some sort of idea on how resources are being utilized should not be considered unrealistic.” Although the MIVC has concerns, Shewchuk is confident that this process can be refined and developed. Council discussed the various options and believes that the monthly reporting period should be kept as is at the time and can be revisited at a later time.

The final item on the May 1st agenda was regarding Seniors Housing within Martensville. According to the report, the City of Martensville is looking to “initiate a Seniors Housing and Care Functional Plan in order to demonstrate feasibility for such a facility in Martensville, build the framework of a business plan and have the ability to attract reputable and major partners to build and operate such a facility.” The City of Martensville has applied for ECHO (Encouraging Community Housing Options Program) funding to provide them with resources to assist in offsetting their costs, to help initiate a Call for Proposals, and to put them in a position to access other funding through Provincial or Federal Programs.

The application put forth by the City of Martensville to ECHO was approved for $10,000, an amount that must be matched by the Municipality. The City will be required to submit a report after six months outlining their ‘Action Plan’ and eligible expenses. The Request for Direction that was brought to Council was looking for approval to have authorization for City of Martensville signing officers to enter into an agreement with Saskatchewan Housing Corporation to access the $10,000 ECHO (Encouraging Community Housing Options Program) funds. Council was on board for this and Councilor Mike Cox took a moment to note that this was a great start and also thanked Shewchuk for his work on this.

Martensville Resident Reaches Out to City on Drainage Issues

Last year when our alley flooded we spoke and you sent a work crew out here to fix it. In the end they thought that they could make water run uphill and against mine and my neighbors discontent built up the "T" corner of the alleys at least a foot higher in an attempt to get the water to run uphill to the drain to the west. This spring it resulted in all the water in the alley that is supposed to drain to the south (according to your drainage plan) to now accumulate even worse than ever at our corner and flooding my garage yet again. The first 3 years after we built the back garage there were no problems. The city then built the alley up above everyone's yard grade including the "T" intersection and that's when the problems began. I have now spent 2 days of effort and a couple hundred dollars in a pump and equipment. I ended up having to dig a trench by hand several hundred feet to get the water running to the south where it should go. The 4800 GPH pump has also been running for most of the last 2 days as well. When we first noticed the problem on Saturday night we tried calling the emergency line which still hasn't resulted in a call back. You said you would look into it and I still haven't heard from anyone yet. The most frustrating part of this whole ordeal is that is a simple fix. This city of Martensville is built on above ground drainage for the most part and it relies on curbside drainage that cuts across intersections with a dip in the pavement. All that I have ever asked is that the same be done with our alley to get it to drain in the direction it was intended to. If the city is too busy to handle this task and get the water out of the low spot that is flooding the corner of the 2 alleys, I would be happy to contact a contractor to provide such a service at the city's expense.

There are now two Saskatchewan Party MLAs in the legislature especially awaiting the federal election in 2019.

First, former Speaker and Saskatoon Eastview MLA Corey Tochor upset incumbent MP Brad Trost to win the Saskatoon University Conservative nomination. More recently, Regina Walsh Acres MLA Warren Steinley took the Conservative nomination in Regina Lewvan.

We will now see these two MLAs collect a pay cheque from provincial taxpayers while actively campaigning for a federal seat. This has NDP Opposition leader Ryan Meili demanding the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly Act be changed so that MLAs will no longer be allowed to have such divided loyalties between levels of government. He has a point. However, one wonders why politicians only exercise these high moral standards while in opposition.

For years under previous NDP government, there seemed no problem with MLAs holding a provincial seat while representing other interests. For example, for years former Regina mayor Henry Baker was an NDP MLA while running the city.

Moreover, former NDP MLA John Solomon actively ran for the federal NDP long before resigning his provincial seat on Sept. 9, 1993 when the writ was dropped for the federal election that October. Like Tochor and Steinley today, Solomon had little problem collecting his provincial pay cheque while running for federal politics.

Provincial politicians of all stripes have always been distracted by outside partisan political interests. That Tochor and Steinley will be out knocking on doors for themselves is just a slight extension of the reality that they would likely be out door-knocking for their own provincial re-election interests or maybe for some other candidate’s election interests.

Rightly or wrongly, campaigning and door-knocking has always been considered part of the job. And given that politicians can and do have other outside interests (farming, businesses, medical practices, legal practices, etc.) that they are allowed to partake in while actively sitting as an MLA, one might argue there are likely even worse potential conflicts of interest.

As for the NDP’s assertion that representing the Sask.

Party government while running for Andrew Scheer’s federal Conservatives is a conflict, that, too, seems a bit of a stretch.

While on a point of principle Tochor, Steinley (and Solomon, years ago after he secured his own federal nomination) should resign their provincial seat, it’s not because any of them were in an egregious philosophical conflict.

As it stands right now, the Sask. Party and federal Conservatives are virtually indistinguishable, but maybe that is where one of two new problems arise. Maybe the notion of the Sask. Party being just the provincial version of the federal Conservative party is not an inoffensive notion to Conservative supporters.

Certainly, for any number of rural voters who, for years, voted for Conservative, federally, and for the Sask.

Party, provincially, they have no problem with the notion. But if this is the case, maybe it’s time to end the charade that the Sask. Party is in anyway still an amalgamation of provincial Liberals and federal Progressive Conservatives; however, a bigger issue seems to be why Tochor and Steinley may have resigned. It likely has something to do with the unlikelihood that either would been re-elected in their city seats as Sask.

Party MLAs.

There seems to be a pattern here. Jennifer Campeau, Kevin Doherty and, soon, Tochor and Steinley will all have resigned city seats since the 2016 campaign. The ensuing byelections in Campeau’s and the late Roger Parent’s seats were handily won by the NDP.

One suspects the NDP will do equally well in the upcoming three city by-elections. Meanwhile, the Sask.

Party won three rural by-elections by even larger margins.

What this spells is a return to the old rural-urban splits in this province in a major way. That isn’t good news for anyone.

MLA Report With Nancy Heppner Province Challenging Federal Carbon Tax in Court

The Government of Saskatchewan has launched a constitutional reference case in the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal to challenge the federal government’s ability to impose a carbon tax on the province.

The government is asking the Court of Appeal to answer a clear question on the constitutionality of the legislation that the federal government has introduced to impose the carbon tax.

The question is: The Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act was introduced into Parliament on March 28, 2018 as Part 5 of Bill C-74. If enacted, will this Act be unconstitutional in whole or in part?

We do not believe the federal government has the constitutional right to impose the Trudeau carbon tax on Saskatchewan, against the wishes of the government and the people.

This federal tax fails to respect the sovereignty and autonomy of the provinces with respect to matters under their jurisdiction. Simply put, we do not believe the federal government has the right to impose a tax on one province but not others just because they don’t like our climate change plan.

Under the constitution, each level of government is sovereign within its own legislative realm. Provincial governments have the authority to set policy in areas of provincial jurisdiction, and the federal government does not have the right to override that provincial authority.

The Government of Saskatchewan released Prairie Resilience: A Made-in-Saskatchewan Climate Change Strategy in December 2017. The strategy includes:

• the development of sector-specific output-based performance standards on large emitting facilities;

• increasing efficiencies in buildings;

• creating a freight strategy to improve delivery times, reducing fuel and increasing efficiency; and

• developing a climate resiliency model to help ensure communities are able to adapt and mitigate against

the effects of climate change.

Our made-in-Saskatchewan strategy is broader and bolder than a carbon tax. Our plan includes reducing emissions from the electricity sector by 40 per cent and methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by 40 to 45 per cent by 2030.

Our Saskatchewan story also includes our agriculture industry that sequesters nearly 12 million tonnes of CO2 annually and carbon capture at Boundary Dam 3 that has prevented two million tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering our atmosphere. Saskatchewan is the solution, not the problem.

Our government will continue to stand up for Saskatchewan against the Trudeau government’s costly and ineffective carbon tax, while pursuing real emission reductions and protecting jobs in the province.

Protecting Saskatchewan Energy Interests

Our government will always stand up for Saskatchewan and that includes ensuring the Trans Mountain pipeline gets built.

Access to overseas markets is critical to getting the world price for Canadian crude oil and ending the significant discounting of Canadian crude oil. The status quo cost Saskatchewan oil producers an estimated $2.6 billion and the province an estimated $210 million in taxes, royalties and other revenue last year.

Pipelines are acknowledged as the most efficient and the safest method of transporting large volumes of crude oil. We are confident that federally-approved and properly-regulated pipelines can be constructed and operated in a manner that protects both the environment and public health and safety.

The expansion of our national pipeline capacity is vital to the future of our energy sector and to thousands of Canadian jobs. It must not be obstructed, either by a lack of federal leadership or by a provincial government overstepping.

We find ourselves in gridlock today because, in the 18 months since the federal government approved the Trans Mountain pipeline, it has failed to ensure that construction could proceed.

Our government has introduced Bill 126, The Energy Export Act, which creates the legislative framework necessary to optimize the value of Saskatchewan’s oil, gas, and refined petroleum products by establishing a permitting process to export such products outside the province.

Similar in intent to legislation recently introduced by the Government of Alberta, Bill 126 is a last resort that will be used only if the Trans Mountain pipeline continues to be stalled by provincial obstruction and federal inaction, and if the Alberta government acts upon its legislation.

Oil doesn’t stop moving when pipelines are opposed – instead it moves on rail or by truck. Increasing pipeline access to tidewater would inject billions of dollars into Canada’s economy. Aspiring to greater energy independence is a priority for Saskatchewan and should always be a priority for the nation of Canada.

I predict Washington breaks up Pittsburgh’s chance at a 3-peat in a thrilling 7-game series, In the West both series are tied 1-1, it didn’t seem like the Vegas, San Jose series would be tied after the Golden Knights hammered the Sharks 7-0 in game one. San Jose fought hard in game two and handed Vegas their first loss of the playoffs in double overtime by a score of 4-3 to tie the series at one game each. The final series in the West has the NHL’s two best teams in the regular season against each other and two of the league’s best goalies. Nashville’s Pekka Rinne and Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck are both nominated for the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goaltender. It was Hellebuyck who stole the show in game one stopping 47 of 48 shots while Rinne was less than stellar, allowing 3 goals on 16 shots in a 4-1 loss. Winnipeg takes game one but game two was time for Pekka Rinne to show why he is a Vezina finalist. Rinne stopped 46 of 50 shots in a wild, double overtime 5-4 victory to even the series at 1-1.

The conceptual design for Aspen Pointe Estates

The Lake Vista development in Martensville has seen much construction in recent years and plans to continue to grow this area are continuing. One of the largest developments in the area is the Aspen Parke Estates condo site located on Beadry Crescent, which was a welcome addition to Martensville.

Plans to develop a similar development are underway, and residents can look forward to seeing Aspen Pointe Estates, a 22 unit building, completed by the summer of 2019.

This building will be constructed by Span West Building Corporation, as was Aspen Parke Estates and will have less units than its predecessor; however, will be able to offer some units with larger square footage as well as amenities that were not previously offered.

Amenities include; indoor, heated parking stall, 9-foot ceilings, gas line for BBQ to each balcony, water line to fridge and ice maker, granite countertops, blinds on all windows, walk-in shower, private storage room accessible from balcony, built-in microwave, built-in dishwasher, and more.

Span West is looking forward to completing another project within Martensville and is proud to work within the province, as Saskatchewan was home to their first condominium back in 1987. Over the past 30 years, they have completed over 70 construction projects across Western Canada.

Currently, Rob Friesen of Boyes Group Realty, is the “exclusive” real estate agent for the building and stated that he would be “offering pre-construction sales to buyers wanting to secure a specific condo unit and would also like to have the opportunity in finishing choices.” Friesen has already been receiving calls in regards to this.
