Registration Information Registration Information

Program information including: dates, times, locations, and ages are included in this guide. There are three ways to register; on-line, by telephone, and in person. We will be accepting, cash, cheque, debit, and credit card.

On-line registration can be found on our website at www.martensville.ca, look for the ‘Program Registrations’ button near the bottom of the page. In person and phone registration will take place at the Martensville Athletic Pavilion. We are located at 200 Mike Sands Boulevard and our number is 306-683.-5576. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 7:00am-10:00pm and Saturday and Sunday 8:00am-9:00pm. All registration fees must be paid in full when registering. We accept cash, cheque, debit, and credit card.

Refund Policy • • • • •

A refund request that is received ten (10) days prior to the start of course will receive a 100% refund. No reason shall be required.

A refund request received within 10 days of the course starting or once the course has commenced, and no more than 20% of the course is complete will receive a 50% refund.

After 20% of any course has been completed no refund shall be issued.

100% refund will be issued if the program is cancelled by the Recreation & Community Services Department.

A pro-rated refund will be issued under the following circumstances; - Medical reasons, a medical certificate will be required.

- Program class cancellations, where classes cannot be made up.

Funding Opportunities KidSport

TM

Jumpstart is a community based charitable organization that helps kids in need participate in organized recreational activities.

This program will also help to fund equipment costs. Application forms for Jumpstart are available at the MAP. For more information on this program please call 306-683-5577 or e-mail recprograms@martensville.ca

2018 Sask Lotteries The purpose of the Sask. Lotteries Community Grant program is to provide funds to local, non-profit and volunteer-based organizations whose sole purpose is to provide programs and services in the sport, culture, or recreation sector.

Your project or event must take place between April 1st, 2019 and Mar. 31st, 2020. Contact recprograms@martensville.ca to inquire about the program and application process.

Funding Opportunities

KidSportTM is a children’s charity dedicated to assisting children and families facing financial obstacles with the opportunity to participate in community sport programs.

100% of donations and fundraising proceeds are directed to KidSportTM children and 100% of the money stays in Martensville. Application forms for KidSportTM are available at the MAP. For more information on this program, please call 306-683-5577 or e-mail recprograms@martensville.ca.

Jumpstart

Kidsport Playhouse Fundraiser TM

We are very excited to be joining forces with the Martensville A&W, Clarks Crossing Gazette, Martensville High School, and the Martensville Lions Club again to bring the community another chance at winning a beautiful playhouse.

The playhouse is complete, and tickets are on sale NOW. Make sure you get out and purchase your tickets. Tickets are 2 for $5.00, or $2.50 each and will be available at various locations, the MAP, and the A&W throughout the campaign. Last year we raised approximately $13,000 and we are hoping for an even bigger event this year. The draw date for the Playhouse is July 4th at 7:00pm at the A&W. A special thanks goes out to the students and staff at Martensville High School for constructing this wonderful playhouse, and to the Martensville Lions Club for taking the lead role in selling tickets. We’d also like to thank our sponsors; Kiewit Construction, Martensville A&W, Clarks Crossing Gazette, Martensville Building and Home Supply, Brad’s Towing, and Feature Flooring. Thank you for your continued support!

Recreation Membership & Program Accessibility This program will offer a discounted rate on yearly recreation facility memberships at the MAP and city operated leisure programs for families and individuals whose income is below a certain level.

The discounted membership will be 50% off the original price of a yearly membership at the Martensville Athletic Pavilion. The discounted leisure program registration will be 80% off of the original price of the city offered leisure program, up to a maximum of $200 per family member per year.

Families or individuals looking to apply for this program must complete the application form and provide all required documents.

All information on the forms provided by the participants will be strictly confidential. Applications are available at City Hall and the MAP. This program is only for City of Martensville residents.

Easter Cupcake Workshop

Sportball for Toddlers

Make fun decorated cupcakes and take them home to share! Yum! A decorating class just for kids! All supplies are included. Sign up early because space is limited! Ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Toddlers and parents focus on physical movement and social exploration through an introduction of a different sport each class using developmentally appropriate games and activities. This is a parented class. Each child attends this program with ONE parent or guardian. Check out their web site for more information on this amazing program. www.sportball.ca.

Mini Moves An activity-based program that teaches physical and social skills for pre-school children through action songs, games, and activities. They will enjoy balls, parachutes, bubbles, and imagination.

Mini Soccer/Blastball 2.0 Due to the on-going Physical Literacy project in the community we are giving this program a boost!! The focus of the program will be on skill development and fundamentals that will help the children be confident and motivated moving forward in sport. This is an outdoor program which will still include both Soccer and Ball skills.

We are very excited about the changes and feel this will be a fun program with continuous action and stimulating drills.

Teams will be formed and parent volunteers will act as coaches and assistant coaches. We will provide you with an excellent handbook and resources that will make it easy to follow and implement. A small incentive will also be provided to all the coaches and assistant coaches. If you are interested in coaching please email specialevents@ martensville.ca Registration will be on-line or in person at the MAP this year. The registration deadline will be April 8th for this program.

Sportball for Pre-Schoolers This provides children with an opportunity for independent learning and autonomy among other social and developmental benefits. Our trained and certified coaches introduce pre-school and elementary children to the fundamental skills behind 9 popular sports. THIS IS A DROP-OFF PROGRAM. Babysitters Course

Ball Hockey

One of our most popular and famous programs! This course is packed full of advice, guides, tips, and information based on real life experiences, from kids and experts in the know. The Babysitter’s Training program has tons of activities and handson practice to increase student confidence and provide skills needed to be the best babysitter possible. This course is 7 hours long so please send a lunch for their lunch break.

The sport of ball hockey is a sport anyone can enjoy.

Regardless, if you are a high-level ice hockey player or have never strapped on the blades, this sport is for you. During this program your children will learn passing, shooting, stick handling, and teamwork through drills, activities, and games. A Game for Everyone!

Youth Programs Family Basketball

Get ready for the upcoming season, improve on fundamental skills and learn new ones at our Summer Camp at the MAP. The Basketball Camp will be run by experienced coach Brendon Johnston.

Drive away those winter blues and bring the family down to shoot some hoops or play some mini games. This is a drop-in program. Please bring your own ball as we have limited ones available.

Children’s Art Classes

Home Alone Plus First Aid

This class will be an exploration of art and an introduction to different mediums. Each child will learn techniques with pencil, charcoal, pastels and acrylic paint. We will spend two weeks on each art form and complete a piece of art to take home. Students can pick from pictures provided to create their masterpieces! Each student will receive individual help to advance their abilities as they work on their artwork. Join us for some fun!

Are you wondering when it’s safe to leave your child at home alone for a few hours before or after school or while you run errands? This entertaining four-hour child safety workshop is one of our most popular courses and is designed to prepare children to look after themselves during the times you aren’t there. Important skills are learned through interactive lessons and role play that help make both you and your child more confident when they are at home alone. First Aid for Kids teaches students how to respond to medical emergencies, such as cuts, burns, choking or broken bones.

Basketball Summer Camp

Kids in the Kitchen Kids in the Kitchen will provide a hands-on experience for kids 9 - 12 to learn food preparation, cooking terms, table manners and clean up! Students will prepare simple and nutritious foods like tacos, omelettes, and cookies that they will then be able to prepare at home.

You could be the next Food Network Star like Jamie Oliver, Anne Burrell, or Guy Fiere!

Give your kids something to do during those long weeks off.

We are going to offer themes during these school breaks. They will include Arts & Crafts (Apr. 23rd), Sports & Games (Apr. 24th), Outdoor Play (Apr. 25th), and Children’s Choice (Apr. 26th)!

Join our Learn to Play Tennis Program to learn the fundamentals of tennis. This introductory session will cover rallying, volleying and serving. The program is led by a Tennis Canada certified coach and will also cover the rules and etiquette of the sport. All equipment is provided, but please wear athletic clothing/shoes and bring a water bottle.

School’s Out for Summer We all know the kids will need something to do over the Summer and we have you covered. Choose from a few days here and there, a couple weeks or sign up for the whole summer. The choice is yours! Pickleball is a new sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. Pickleball can be played as doubles or singles. Come try out this exciting sport. Games will reflect a recreational league-style play.

BBQ Freezer Meals Great for the upcoming BBQ season! Balancing time between home, work and kid’s events can be challenging. Trying to balance these things and provide home cooked meals for our families sometimes feels impossible. Come and join us for an evening of fun, food and laughter! Burgers, seasoned chicken breasts and pork souvlaki plus parmesan bread sticks and one dessert for your busy family in one session!

First Aid & CPR We will be offering one Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR C course this winter. If you need to recertify, there is another date scheduled for that. You will need to bring your current certification with you for verification if you are wanting to recertify.

Floor Hockey A recreational drop-in program to develop basic skills and introduce some team concepts and rules of floor hockey.

Games will reflect a recreational league-style play.

Line Dancing Line Dancing is a fun social activity, promoting exercise, helping to develop and/or maintain posture, balance, coordination and memory. Choose from one of the following classes:

Terrarium Bowl Workshop Ladies Night Gather your girls for a fun and relaxing evening where you can unleash your creativity! We provide you with endless possibilities to mix and match colors and textures, so you can create a “small world” unique to you – whether it be bold, elegant, earthy, funky, classic, or quirky! Whatever your heart desires. All supplies are provided and include a medium container, one large succulent or three small succulents, soil, gravel, activated charcoal, decorations, packaging, and care instructions.

Ultra Beginner No previous line dance experience is required. Each week you will learn individual dance steps, putting the steps into a pattern to form a line dance. Steps, dances and patterns are repeated each week, new dance(s) will be added as we go.

Advanced Beginner/ Improver Previous Line Dancing is recommended. Steps and dance patterns are more complex, and dances are repeated each week, with new dance(s) added.

Spring & Summer Fitness Classes Flow Yoga

A class for everyone, especially for those with joint ailments or injuries, get fit with this challenging water workout. After a gentle warm-up in the calm water, you’ll ease into the exercises using your own body weight.

This class involves linking several yoga poses together to create strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance.

The classes will effectively work all parts of the body equally, creating an experience of non-judgement and non-competitiveness. We will focus on alignment using the three-mountain format, warm-up, work phase and cool down. Be prepared to sweat a bit and leave feeling relaxed. All levels welcome, modifications offered at each class.

Aqua Yoga A light warm-up using the noodles followed by all your favourite yoga poses with noodles as stability props. The water allows us the buoyancy to move into poses not achievable on land. If you always wanted to try yoga but were worried about balance issues, this may be your answer!!

Body Sculpt This is a combo class that involves moderate weight training and cardio to enhance strength and endurance. A full body workout that will challenge and energize you!! We’ll get your heart rate pumping!

Bootcamp This class will be delivered in a fun circuit format with cardio and resistance partner drills and bodyweight exercises. It is an awesome way to enhance mental focus, cardio, strength, agility, coordination, and stamina for the ultimate bootcamp experience.

Gentle Yoga Practice the form of the basic yoga postures, while allowing yourself to experience a gentle slower paced class. Attention to connecting breath mindfully to move through the postures and creating a balance for greater health and mental awareness.

Winter Fun Fest This year’s Winter Fun Fest was again a tremendous success for our community. In addition to a wonderful day full of fun activities, we were able to raise $1,200.00 for the KidSport™ program in Martensville.

Variety Night The Recreation and Community Services Department would like to invite you to attend our 17th Annual Variety Night. Performances from a variety of our programs such as Rhythmic Gymnastics, Mini Moves, Tumblers Gymnastics, and Bravo Dance etc. will all be included. Spring Monster Garage Sale The Spring Monster Garage Sale will take place on Friday, May 24th and Saturday, May 25th for the City of Martensville and the City of Warman.

The registration fee is $5 and that gets your address listed on the flyer along with the map of our City, balloons, and Monster Garage Sale signs. The flyers will be available to pick up at various gas stations, at the MAP, and City Hall. We will advertise this event through numerous local papers and social media to guarantee a great turn out! Off Leash Dog Park

The City of Martensville has developed a community garden within Kinsmen Park. Interested individuals are asked to please submit their names requesting a plot. If more requests are submitted than available plots, a draw will take place allocating the available plots.

Currently all the plots have been allocated. Preference for allocation of these plots will be given to those individuals who have no available land to garden (ie: those living in apartments, condos). Residents of Martensville will receive first choice. For inquiries please call 306291-7797 or e-mail lennea@sasktel.net.

The off leash Dog Park is a year round park located south of 10th Ave S. This is the only area in Martensville that permits dogs off leash. Patrons are reminded to obey park rules which are posted at the entrance to the park from the parking lot. Users of the Off Leash Dog Park will find a large open space for dogs to run as well as pathways within the treed area of the park. Residents can access the park by vehicle off 10th Ave S and by foot using the pedestrian bridge off the paths behind Glenview Cove.

Cemetery

With over 100 acres of green space located in the heart of the City of Martensville, Kinsmen Park is Martensville’s destination park.

From sport activities to casual leisure enjoyment, Kinsmen Park is a great meeting place for family and friends. Amenities include a three kilometer lit pathway system that connects directly to the City pathway system, 9 hole disc golf course, 2 outdoor fitness pods with 11 pieces of equipment, park benches, picnic shelter, toboggan hill, 3 tennis/Pickleball courts, full size outdoor basketball court, playground, community garden, skate park, fishing, and gazebo.

The site is located east of Martensville at the south-east corner of Township Road 384 and Range Road 3052.

Phase I of the cemetery includes 296 casket lots, 282 cremation lots, half of which can accommodate two cremated remains. Phase I also includes a columbaria section where remains can be stored. The cemetery will be operated out of City Hall. Anyone interested in a cemetery lot may call 306-931-2166 to inquire about the purchase of lots. The cemetery design, bylaws, floral and monument regulations, and information on licenses and fees are available at www.martensville.ca.

Kinsmen Park is also home to the Kyle Syrenne Skatepark and Martensville Slo-Pitch diamonds and connected to the Martensville Athletic Pavilion, Mocon Baseball fields, North Ridge Community Centre, multi-purpose sports fields, the Martensville Aquatic Centre, and three additional ball diamonds.

Lions Park

Bench Dedication & Tree Planting Programs

Lions Park is located at 416 6th Avenue South and is a popular park for family gatherings, with plenty to offer for young and old. Starting in 2013, this park features a newly renovated Spray Park with 17 different spray features and concrete basin. The Spray Park opens the first weekend in June and runs until the Tuesday after the September long weekend. Hours of operation are 10:00am-8:00pm. Another feature of Lions Park is the gazebo. The gazebo provides that needed shelter and area to host family outings or special events. Plenty of green space is also available for a variety of games.

The Bench Dedication and Tree Planting programs were implemented for the purpose of providing benches and trees along the community walking paths, parks and designated boulevards.

Senior’s Globe Walk Saskatoon Council on Aging Inc. The Saskatoon Council on Aging Inc. has rented the MAP for their Seniors Globe Walk Program again. During community consultations, older adults identified the need for more physical activity and social opportunities during the winter months. The Seniors Globe Walk is a response to that need. Martensville Community Recreation Project The Martensville Community Recreation Project (MCRP) is working to provide new recreational facilities and opportunities in the City of Martensville. In doing this, we offer five events in our city to raise awareness and funds that go directly towards these kinds of facilities and programs.

With the growing interest in the sport, our club is looking at starting an adult learn-to curl program and league next fall. Martensville New Horizons Senior Centre, invites anyone 55+, to join us for our social hours and other activities. 574 Dakota Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets 574 Dakota Squadron meets every Thursday evening (Sept – Jun) at the North Ridge Centre in Martensville from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

We service the Martensville, Warman, Dalmeny and Osler areas and are a youth program for those between the ages of 12 and 19 years of age.

Air Cadets participate in a variety of activities such as: survival weekends, sports weekends, range, gliding / power flying opportunities and much more. The Cadet program helps develop today’s youth by instilling communication & leadership skills, discipline and service to others, which are the basis of a great citizen.

Sask. Valley Riding Club The Sask Valley Riding Club was formed in 1996 and is made up of members of all ages, promoting a family atmosphere.

As a club we enjoy spending time with other people, both riders and non-riders alike, that share our interest in horses. In doing so, we are given a chance to learn from each other and the various experts we have contact with along the way. Our goals include helping each other, helping our horses and helping our community.

Both English and Western riders can enjoy the advantages of membership. We coordinate various riding clinics for club members throughout the year and take part in as many local parades as we can.

Our members also enjoy getting outside and hitting the trails as a rewarding way to enjoy nature.

Martensville Aquatics Swimming Lesson Information Registration for swimming lessons will take place on-line and in person at the MAP starting at 9:00am on Monday May 13th.

For more information on how to register on–line please refer to page 4 of this guide. Registration will continue to be taken on-line and at the MAP for the duration of the spring and summer during regular business hours. If you have any questions regarding swimming lessons, please call the Aquatic Centre at 306-931-0003 or e-mail aquatic@martensville.ca Refund Policy for lessons: • A refund request that is received ten (10) days prior to the start of a course will receive a 100% refund. No reason shall be required.

• A refund request received within 10 days of the course starting or once the course has commenced, and no more than 20% of the course is complete, will receive a 50% refund.

• After 20% of any course has been completed, no refund shall be issued.

• 100% refund will be issued if the program is cancelled by the Recreation & Community Services Department.

• A pro-rated refund will be issued under the following circumstances; - Medical reasons - a medical certificate will be required.

- Program class cancellations, where classes cannot be made up.

- Relocation of primary address that is 30 km outside of Martensville – proof of the new address will be required with individuals name on it.

Refunds will not be issued due to poor weather conditions.

Aquatic Centre Information

Private lessons are a way to personalize your lesson to suit the needs of any swimmer. They are a good option if your swimmer has only a few items left to complete a level, needs feedback and correction on certain strokes or just needs one-on-one time with their instructor to build confidence. Private lessons can be booked as a one-time clinic session or can be used to complete a level. If you are trying to a complete a level, a minimum of five private lessons must be purchased at time of enrolment. The instructor may request additional lessons if they are unable to meet the goals of the swimmer in the time provided.

Canadian Lifesaving Society Instructor: $300.00 Pre-requisites: 16 years of age, Bronze Cross and CPR-C/Standard First Aid Required Materials: Lifesaving Society Instructor Manual ($110.00). Can be purchased at Martensville Aquatic Centre.

Canadian Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Recertification: $80.00 Pre-requisite: Proof of National Lifeguard Award certification.

Must be recertified every two years.

June 22/19 8:30am – 12:30pm Martensville Aquatic Centre Water Safety Instructor: Candidates must complete all four components before becoming a certified Water Safety Instructor.

Pre-requisites: 15 years of age and either Red Cross Assistant Lifeguard or Bronze Cross.

1. Skills Evaluation Component: $20.00 Candidates must demonstrate Red Cross Swim Kids Level 10 standard as well as emergency response skills.

June 13/19 5:00pm – 9:00pm Martensville Aquatic Centre 2. Online Learning Component: $160.00 Approximately 20 hours in length and to be completed at home. Included in the course package are the WSI workbook and Red Cross Swim deck book. A PIN and password to access the WSI online will be provided by the Red Cross. Visit Martensville Aquatic Centre to purchase this component.

3. Teaching Experience Component: Free Must have successful completed the Skills Evaluation Component and the Online Learning Component. Participants practice-teach Red Cross swimming lessons with a certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructor for a lesson set of 8-10 lessons. 4. Classroom and Pool Component: $225.00 Pre-requisite: Completed the Skills Evaluation, Online Learning and Teaching Experience Components. Participants are required to bring completed WSI workbook and Red Cross Swim Deck Book. Candidates are evaluated on their ability to apply the theory for effectively planning, teaching, and evaluation swimmers in the Red Cross Swim program.
