With the simple modifications that Elementary Program offers, teachers and coaches can easily provide their children with a fun and rewarding volleyball experience. Best of all you don’t need to be a volleyball expert to get started!

Home Alone Plus First Aid Are you wondering when it is safe to leave your child at home alone for a few hours before or after school or while you run errands? This entertaining four-hour child safety workshop is one of our most popular courses and is designed to prepare children to look after themselves during the times you aren’t there. Important skills are learned through interactive lessons and role play that help make both you and your child more confident when they are at home alone. First Aid for Kids teaches students how to respond to medical emergencies, such as cuts, burns, choking or broken bones.

Lacrosse and Football Lacrosse and football are two of the most popular sports in Saskatchewan thanks to teams like the NLL Rush and the CFL Roughriders. We are excited to be offering both sports in an exciting new Sportball program, wherein children will learn fundamental skills, understand basic elements of gameplay, and develop multi-sport physical literacy. This drop-off program will run for 10 weeks with an equal share of time spent on each sport.

Outdoor Skating & Pond Usage Please note that outdoor skating and pond usage must abide by current guidelines and recommendations from the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Government of Saskatchewan. Those using the canals and lakes, East Trout & Kelly’s Pond, for recreational usage are encouraged to use caution as the thickness of the ice will vary. Remember only the following usages are encouraged: • •

Skating (on designated areas that are cleared of snow) Ice Fishing on East Trout Lake (no ice shacks)

We will be clearing the canal between Kelly’s Pond and East Trout Lake for skating. This area is located within Kinsmen Park. This surface will be maintained once there is adequate ice thickness for skaters. No vehicles, snowmobiles, or all-terrain vehicles are allowed on the lakes, parks, or drainage ways within our community. Please contact the Recreation Office at 306-683-5576 to receive information on the condition of these areas. We recommend no winter usage of the lake located on Sunset Ridge due to ice strength.

Kinsmen Park With over 100 acres of green space located in the heart of the City of Martensville Kinsmen Park is Martensville’s destination park. With its array of recreation options, facilities, and beauty, Kinsmen Park is a prominent feature in our community. Kinsmen Park is home to the Martensville Slo-Pitch diamonds and connected to the Martensville Athletic Pavilion, baseball and athletic fields, North Ridge Community Centre, the Martensville Aquatic Centre, and Kyle Syrenne Skate Park. Kinsmen Park features over two kilometers of paved and lit walking pathways linked to over seven kilometres of walking paths. The paths span the community and run adjacent to four separate ponds adding to recreational opportunities such as skating, kayaking, or fishing. A pedestrian bridge over the canal provides an attractive backdrop for the park. From sport activities to casual leisure enjoyment, Kinsmen Park is a great meeting place for family and friends. Amenities include an integrated pathway system, 9 hole disc golf course, 2 outdoor fitness pods with 11 pieces of equipment, park benches, picnic shelter, toboggan hill, 3 tennis/pickleball courts, full size outdoor basketball court, playground, community garden, and gazebo.

Martensville’s New Multipurpose Recreation Facility

W

The City of Martensville, partnering with the Martensville Community Recreation Project (MCRP), is set to deliver a phased facility to meet the ever-growing demand for more ice and indoor field time. Where will it be? The City is exploring a few locations with accessibility and growth opportunity for our community and region – the best location to meet the recreational vision and best serve our residents. We will update you once a location is chosen.

H

How will this facility be funded? The City and the MCRP are focused on Phase 1 with a project cost of approximately $13M. Phase 1 of the project is focused on an additional arena, seating and leisure ice surface. In November 2018, the City allocated $6.5M towards construction of Phase 1. These funds came from recreation levies over the last two annual budgets. Our goal is to move forward with this project without raising taxes to cover capital costs of building the facility. In addition, the MCRP – a local volunteer non-profit – has raised $250,000 over the past 5 years for Phase 1. The City and the MCRP are partnering to fundraise the balance for Phase 1. We are pursuing government funding for future phases. Stay tuned over the next number of months for some exciting updates!

A new multi-purpose facility will provide positive impacts in respect to sport, leisure and economic spinoffs in the community and region. Together we can create the capacity to not only retain sporting events and create and expand programs, but also the potential to bring a variety of major sporting events into region. This will be a positive development for the local business community that will see increased visitors coming to the community to participate in sport.

Why does Martensville need a new rink? “It would be awesome. There would be so much more ice time!! We could host our own tournaments again! And we wouldn’t have to travel out of town as much for practices. Maybe other teams would come to our rink too…they could also host tournaments and practice at our nice new rink.” - Blake Carlson, Baseball & Hockey Athlete “More time to play the game I love with my friends.” - Ryland McConnell, Hockey Athlete

Local Service Groups MCRP - Martensville Community Recreation Project As a volunteer-led charity, the Martensville Community Recreation Project (MCRP)’s main goal is to provide a year-round multipurpose recreation facility for the residents of Martensville and our surrounding communities. Our young and growing community is in dire need of a new facility for ice and turf sports. The lack of a suitable and accessible recreational facility impedes our children’s and adults’ participation in their healthy physical activity of choice. We believe in a Martensville where all can play and be active in a facility that is truly the heartbeat of our community. Thanks to incredible community support, we have raised more than $365,000 for this facility over the past 5 years, through our 4 annual events that combine awareness, fundraising and, of course, fun: • NHL Hockey Draft - 1st Sunday after the NHL Season - April 11th, 2021 • TUFF Run - Summer 2021 Date TBA • Martensville 3 on 3 Hockey Tournament - First 3 weeks in September - Registration starts at the end of April. This sells out every year with 320+ athletes playing! • Cabaret and Dance - November 6th, 2021 Don’t forget to come check out the MCRP Community House build on the corner of 4th Street South and MacCormack Road. The purpose of this project is to bring our community together, with over 50 local people and companies donating time and material, this house is a must see in the community!! We’re working alongside the City of Martensville, volunteers and groups in our community to build this dream of a new recreational facility. Information, updates, and facility floor plans are found on www.mcrp.ca or on Facebook @ MartensvilleMCRP. You - our incredible community - have supported the MCRP and propelled the City towards moving forward with Phase One of a new recreational facility. We are well on our way. However, we need more help! Please visit us at mcrp.ca/donate to lend your support or contact us to learn how you can get involved. The need, the vision and the plan are clear. Our community is ready and the time to build is now. Please support this vision at mcrp.ca/donate. Charitable tax receipts are available.

Canada Day in Martensville!! This year is Canada’s 154th birthday, and we are excited to celebrate with you!! Check out the 13th annual Canada Day celebrations at the North Ridge Centennial Community Centre right here in Martensville! We are already busy planning a great day!! There will be lots of great FREE activities for all ages. The day kicks off in the afternoon, starting with an Art Show and Community History Showcase. Family activities start at 1:00pm with crafts, games, scavenger hunt and more. To add to this, cupcakes and ice cream are served to the first 200 people. Activities will continue into the evening and wrap up at 8:00pm. We will also have guest appearances throughout the afternoon, live entertainment and a dance party (TBA). The feature event of Canada Day in Martensville is the fireworks display and the Cinema Under the Stars – a GIANT 3 storey inflatable movie screen in Martensville. Once again, the Martensville Information and Visitor Centre is working hard to get a brand NEW animated movie, one that is so new that it’s still in theatres and won’t be available on video yet. Pack your bug spray, blankets, lawn chairs and join the fun! A BBQ and concession will be on site throughout the event , some favourites available will be popcorn, cotton candy, non achohol beverages and other snacks. Glow sticks will also be available throughout the evening. All proceeds support the programs and projects at the Martensville Information and Visitor Centre. Please watch for a more detailed list of events to come. We are always looking for volunteers to help with planning this event and to help throughout the day. For further information please call the Martensville Information & Visitor Centre @ 306-242-0362 or email us at martensvilleinfo@sasktel.net.

Canada Day Committee & Event Volunteers It’s Canada’s 154th Birthday in 2021, and the Canada Day Committee needs your help!!! This fun filled one day event takes a lot of preparation and there are many jobs, big and small, that can only be accomplished with the help of volunteers. We’re looking forward to a great event; the inflatable movie screen is already booked, and we are getting excited to celebrate together!! Our goal is to celebrate our nation’s birthday right here in our own community. We still need help with planning games and activities, finding grants and sponsorships, gathering prizes, and finding people to help on Canada Day!! Attendance for this event has grown steadily; there were so many who enjoyed the day last year! Contact us if you can help! From planning, to volunteering on event day, and everything in between, we are looking for great local people to help. No experience necessary. Please call the Martensville Information & Visitor Centre @ 306-242-0362 or email us at martensvilleinfo@sasktel.net.

Need a hand to prepare your tax return? The Martensville Information & Visitor Centre is planning to run our fourth season of the Complimentary Community Volunteer Income Tax Program. Volunteers can assist you to prepare your income tax. Please contact us to find out more information at 306-242-0362 or email us at martensvilleinfo@sasktel.net.
